The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Skye almost didn't want the hug to break. It was just so sweet, and she loved the contact. Emily made her giddy, happy, and just a little bit sheepish. God, that hand on her back made her shiver. It just felt so....warm and welcoming.
"Oh, yeah! I wanted to show you something," she said, and then noticed where Em was staring. Skye giggled, then adopted a teasing "My eyes are up here, Hun~" After a moment, she let a hand run through Emily's purple hair. "I've had that for awhile, but I just realized you've never actually seen it because I've normally dressed more....modest around you." she blushed lightly, then slightly pulled away from the grasp.
"So...I did something the other day. I think you might like it."
Her hands moved to the hem of her shirt, and began pulling it up, but then she turned around to finish pulling the hem of the shirt up, showing the tattoo on her shoulder blade: a rainbow in the shape of a heart, with the word 'Prism' in the center in black letters.
Deep down, Skye was still broken from the failed relationship. She was worried she'd somehow manage to lose Emily too, or that Emily would one day decide she didn't want to be around Skye as much anymore; hey, something like that had already happened once. But...something about the embrace, the way the two of them made contact, Emily's skin against hers...something about all of that made the negativity melt away. She was in a good place. In Emily's arms, she was safe. And she didn't have to worry.
"Good. Because I daydream about you too," she murmured with a soft smile. Honestly, Skye was okay with them going as slow as they were. It was sweet, and she had no problem taking things at Emily's speed. Besides, after what happened with Mari, Skye was deep down, a little afraid of taking that next step.
"Thanks, Em," she whispered, kissing her cheek, just lost in the embrace.
"I know I don't need to, but I have a reputation to uphold, Hun~" she teased lightly, adding on a wink for good measure. "I mean, I'd like you to be productive, but if I occupy your thoughts in my spare time, then...that's fine by me." She shuddered as Emily wrapped her arms around her waist, her hair very solidly pink now. She was used to this, but this was the first time Emily's fingers had found skin, and it sent little tingles up and down her spine.
"Oh, I have," she murmured, leaning her head against Emily's as her own hands wrapped around the other girl's waist. "I just like hearing you say it~" She teased, closing her eyes for a moment. Her eyes opened and the lights flashed purple as the words 'are or are not wearing' sunk in. She shook those thoughts aside for now, nuzzling against Emily as her eyes drifted back closed.
"Nah, I just like to dress cute unless I'm asleep," she said with a shrug, implying that her hoodies qualified as 'cute.' She smiled as Emily took her hand, and she leaned in and gave her girlfriend a gentle, loving kiss on the lips. "It's fine. You get anything done or have you just spent the entire day thinking about me?" she teased after the kiss broke, sticking out her tongue as her other hand sort of toyed with the hem of her pink shirt, fingers lightly brushing against the piercing.
"I'm happy to see you too, but you knew that already," she replied with a sheepish smile. She understood that Em was busy, and though that somewhat brought back old feelings of dread, she had faith that Emily wasn't going to kick her to the curb as soon as things got hard. "Honestly, I thought I might have been a little...under dressed myself," she admitted with a small blush as her hair flitted purple again. "But I'm glad you approve," she teased, hair and lights going back to pink as Skye's confidence returned. She used to be much less self-conscious, but...since she became the type to commit, she found herself hoping her girlfriend approved of...just about everything she did.
Yellow lights lit up the mansion hallway, moving in time with the young woman sporting a matching yellow mohawk. Currently, she was wearing a sleeveless shirt that just showed off her opal naval piercing, topped off by a pair of short black shorts and just her slippers--she'd learned the hard way that it wasn't really a good idea to run around the mansion barefoot. She didn't plan on going outside, so she dressed comfortably. However...as the rainbow-haired mutant neared her destination, she realized she might have been a bit too comfortable than Emily was used to seeing.
Her hair turned a smidgen purple as she realized that there was really no turning back now. Besides...this outfit made it easy to do what she planned on doing, anyway. She took a deep breath as she knocked on the door, waited a few seconds or for an order to hang on a second, and then opened the door, stepping inside and shutting it behind it.
"Hey Em! You wait for me long?" she asked with a smile as her hair turned that pink that had become synonymous with their time together. A light blush tinted her cheeks, overwhelmed with emotions. Happiness, excitement, passion, nervousness....and that was just the surface emotions.
Skye's hair and lights flickered to green as the voice startled her, and then settled into an embarrassed purple. "Shit, uh...no, I'm fine..." she stammered, sitting up and not making eye contact with the newcomer. "I was just playing a game and I guess I'm more tired than I thought I was.." A blush tinted her face as she rubbed the pink spot on her cheek where the game made impact. Yeah, that was probably going to bruise.
After a few moments, the lights became a slow pulse as the embarrassment slowly started to subside, and she turned to actually look at the other girl. Normally, Skye would have noticed someone checking her out, but something was off today. Maybe her mindset was different now, or maybe she was just that tired and out of it, or maybe she was just flustered from having a game dropped on her face.
Regaining her momentum, she looked at the girl with a smirk; or...more specifically, at her food. "Nice sandwich," she teased, her hair flicking to a happy, playful orange. "Who made it for you, Dr. Seuss?"
Skye was shaking, her hair and lights flashing from red to blue, but...seeing Mari...the occasional flash of pink crept into the color mix, if only briefly before becoming overshadowed by anger or sadness. Mari stepped closer, and Skye stepped back. "Uh-uh. No. You don't get to decide to be close to me now after blowing me off for god-knows-how long and then sending me...this," she said coldly, her voice steady despite her body shaking and tears welling up in her eyes. "If I need to, I'll come to you. On my terms. But you and I? We're gonna talk. And you're not gonna hide behind a phone, or your ability to cancel out mine. No. You're gonna see what you did to me..." As she spoke, the light was more dominantly red, and then turned to blue as tears began to roll down her face.
"So....that's just it, then? You're just dropping me because you failed once? Like I'm the reason? I'm keeping straight A's, for the record." Her voice was harsh, bitter, and hurt. She didn't want it to end this way, she wanted Mari to change her mind about this. But that probably wasn't going to happen. Skylar Jade Sinclaire doesn't beg, was the thought that ran through her mind.
What makeup she wore was running as her hair veered to a more dominant blue, with the occasional pink before the pink phased out and the blue became faster and faster until--
Skye swallowed her pride and stepped forward, closing the distance between them and just sitting on the floor in Mari's little bubble of safety, hugging her knees. "So....this is really...it for us?" She looked up at Mari, biting her lip, afraid of what was coming next.
"Mohawk lady," she repeated with a light giggle, ignoring the typical teen brushoff. She understood that all too well. "I think I picked the wrong nickname," she murmured, the light staying pink, still showing her concern. "I'm Skylar. I go by Skye, but you can call me Mohawk Lady if you really want to." She smiled, trying to show this girl that she was on her side.
"Good that you're okay, but I'm just looking out for you," she said gently. "I don't know why, but I'd guess it has something to do with our powers. Some mutations mix funny," she explained. "My hair color and the lights in my hands relate to my emotions. They're pink right now because I'm concerned, though each color has multiple meanings. So....you see everything as orange, except me?"
Her tone wasn't condescending, in fact she was showing that she really did care about this teen she'd just met. Wanted to see her succeed and not get beaten up by an electric man in an alley.
"I'd say it can be, sometimes. If you need help coming to terms with your powers, I know a place," Skye said after a moment of silence. "Do you have a place to stay?"
Boredom was an understatement. Today was one of those days where Emily was busy, and it had been one of those nights where they'd actually slept separately. Their relationship was sweet and innocent at this point, but Skye was quite happy with what they had. As it stood though, it was going to be a long day. She'd grown so used to having Emily around that on the days where they didn't see each other often, Skye didn't know what to do with herself.
Hanging out in her room didn't work, so the girl found herself in the living area, sprawled across an entire couch with her phone in across her chest, a handheld game in her hands. She was playing some RPG, her mohawk hanging over the armrest as her head was practically upside down, the game right above her face in that precarious position where if she fell asleep it was going to land right on her face. But she wasn't sleepy yet. Not at all. Just bored.
To signify this, her hair was a light blue, as light blue lights radiated from her palms, lighting up her face as she stared blankly into the screen.
Currently, she was wearing a black tee shirt, the front adorned with a cutesy rainbow-skull; she'd grown quite fond of that aesthetic lately. She wore a matching pair of black jeans that were lined with little studs and chains, and this was topped off with a pair of black converses laced with rainbow laces, because of course they were. Her arms sported black studded wristbands, and her signature choker with the metallic rainbow-skull completed the outfit.
Her mind wandered as she gazed up into her game. She still wasn't very into it, it was just something to do. Her eyes drifted closed and the inevitable happened as she drifted off to sleep, and her grip loosened on the game.
Smack!
"Sonofa--" Skye groaned as the game smacked her cheek and she sat up, looking to see if anyone saw before turning off the game and pulling out her phone, idly looking at some social media site.
And she was gone. Great. From the crowd she heard a cry of pain, and ohhey she was back. With a hat. Okay...that was...odd.
For a bit, the girl was dragging her instead of the other way around. Skye took the lead, her hair and lights still red from the adrenaline as she led the girl down the street and their pace slowed to a more comfortable walk.
"That was a close one. You okay?" she asked, looking the young woman over. "You need anything? First aid? Food? Money?" She asked, a concerned look on her face as her hair turned into a concerned pink.
Skye stared at the message on her phone, her heart racing as she took in what was happening, her hair suddenly flashing between red and blue as the lights in her hands made it look like some sort of crime scene.
BANG!!!
The flashbang was sudden and instantaneous, but it didn't slow her down. The hair and the lights were still shifting between red and blue, but she was scrambling, grabbing a hoodie and tossing it on, pulling on whatever pants she could find, and the first pair of socks(mismatch) and shoes(slippers) she could find as she hurriedly pulled her belongings together. Her heart was racing and it felt like time was going in slow motion. She didn't even text back.
The next thing she knew, she had left the mansion, storming out in her hastily thrown together outfit and catching the next bus to Mari's dorms. The ride seemed to take forever, but finally came to stop in the familiar territory. She stormed into her girlfriend--ex girlfriend?'s room and--found a sort of mini party going on. "Mari," she hissed, her hair still going between sad and angry. The roommate shrugged, and Skye gave a defeated huff before slamming the door and looking around, roaming the various areas she knew but finding nothing.
It was only then she pulled out her phone and opened up her text messages.
~~Where the **** are you?~~
As soon as she got a response, she'd make a beeline straight there. If not, she'd keep looking until she found her.
Either way, when she found Mari, she was going to be seething, her body tense and shaking, tears threatening to escape her eyes. "Really?" She would hiss, holding up the phone and shrugging her shoulders.

Ouch. That was...
"Oh...shit..." Skye's face dropped as she saw Mari's own expression. "I...Goddammit Mari, I'm...I'm sorry." She felt like something tried to rip her in half. Months ago, Skye would have beaten anyone that hurt Mari to a pulp, and now here she was, intentionally hurting Mari. It hit her like a ton of bricks that she was treating Mari just like Skye's mom had treated her.
In the moment, Skye thought she deserved it, but...no. Mari did not deserve it. She deserved to be held, to be happy. She'd made a choice, and while Skye wasn't happy with that choice, and probably never would be...
Skye's own eyes started to well up as she bit her tears. "Please...don't cry. You'll make me cry and nobody wants to see that shit," she said, trying to crack a smile but her voice was defeated.
Skye was...bored. Video-games, drawing, reading...none of that helped. Her phone had been silent all day. Nothing. She'd sent Mari a morning text, but it went unanswered, as was becoming a trend. Hell, she couldn't even remember the last time she'd seen her girlfriend. Skye knew she was focusing on school, but...did she have to practically vanish? She lay on the bed, grabbing her phone and opening the texts before ticking one out.
~Hey, Mari. I know you're probably busy again but...I really want to see you. If only for a minute? I miss you. Love you, Hun <3~
She hit send, then plopped back on the bed, looking at the ceiling with a long, deep sigh as the room around her lit up in blue.

"So, you're saying you cheated, she still beat your ass, and now you're mad. Makes perfect sense," Skye said dryly, still in her defensive stance. "So cheating is only okay when you do it. You get your rocks off trying to cheat poor teens out of their money?" she said, her voice a low hiss as the light still pulsed with threatening red light.
"Trust me; you don't want to find out. This is your chance to back off. Your one chance." Aaaand then his body started arcing with electricity. Great. She guessed he wasn't going to back down, and he was delivering some cheesy line on top of that. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on him, and her mind went away from where they were.
She was back in Maine. A young teenager again. 'You're late.' "You said be home by eleven. It's ten-thirty." "You're a mutant. You should have known I meant ten." "It doesn't work that way..."
"Hey look, Little miss Sparkler's sitting by herself!"
"Skye, this isn't working out...I think we should..."
Back in reality, her hands pulsed faster and faster before finally culminating in a flash of bright white light and a loud, ear shattering BANG!!!
While the man, and the crowd, were reeling from the flash-bang, Skye took off, realizing that Lenna hadn't gone very far, so she grabbed the girl's arm gently as she ran. "Let's go," she said, still groggy from using her power, but she was gonna be the hero here, dammit.
"Well, it sure felt like it," she said, some of the edge falling from her voice. She hated to admit it, but she was vulnerable. Weak. "I just...I wish you'd have at least given me closure. For the longest time I thought it was just a break, but...with every passing day it became more and more apparent that...you were just gone, and there was nothing I could do about it." That emotional wall was slowly crumbling down, and to be honest, Skye didn't like it. But Mari was always good at getting to the real her. But it felt good to know it wasn't all her fault.
And then the window opened, and Skye's face very briefly looked as though she'd just been gut-punched. Ouch. Now not only was the wall back up, but so many feelings hit her all at once that she definitely would have flashbanged again if not for Mari's aura. But Skye swallowed those feelings. She was gonna try to be mature about this.
"You...you got engaged? Congratulations," she said, her enthusiasm more than a little half-assed. You know what? F*** it. She was not gonna be mature about this. She was going to be the emotional, petty b**** that was dying to come out and play. Her eyes narrowed and the smile dropped.
You know...I'm surprised you found the time to get engaged," she said coldly. "Did you immediately go from me to someone else or did you wait a business day out of decency?" Her words dripped with salty, bitter venom as she figuratively dug the knife in and twisted it. She let that sit for a moment, calming down a little.
"Really though, I'm glad you're happy." Her tone made the comment a little backhanded, and it probably was. "While I'm not moving as fast as you, I've had a girlfriend for a little while, myself," she said with a shrug. Dammit. She'd really wished she could have dropped that as a bomb, but that fiancee bombshell had to drop first and ruin her oomph.
Skye was out and about in the city, wearing a hot pink hoodie, black denim jeans, and her usual sneakers. The choker with the rainbow-skull was now a staple of her wardrobe; it gave her happy thoughts. Thoughts of that day with Emily where they hung out, and later that evening confessed their love for each other like some cheesy romcom. But it had set things in motion, and she was on track to being back to normal again. The immediate area around her was bathed in orange as she walked down the street, making her way to a nearby store to run errands for the day.
On the way, though, she saw a crowd gathered. This in itself wasn't unusual because street-side scammers were very much a thing, but this had a different vibe to it. She could hear murmurs of 'mutant' and her hair flashed to red as she grew more edgy and on alert. And someone being accused of cheating? Wasn't that what all street-side gamblers did? Unless they were accusing a player because it was only fair when they did it, apparently. Maybe it was that she was from a small town where people help people, or maybe it was her X-Men training taking the forefront, but she couldn't just keep walking. She squeezed her way through the crowd, which was made easier by some of them parting at the sight of her red mohawk and glowing lights.
What she saw made the red lights pulse even more: A grown man was picking a fight with what looked like a teenage girl. A teenage girl who's Cowboy was tied up with his own personal conundrum, but was still in need of a little backup. She pushed herself through the crowd and stood next to the girl, meeting the man's eyes with her intense brown ones. "Hey. Back off the kid," she said threateningly(as threatening as a 5'4 20 year old woman could be, anyway). "What? She discovered your dice were loaded or something?" They always were.
She looked at the young woman out of the corner of her eye. "Get outta here, I'll catch up in a minute, okay?" Skye then took on an interesting stance. Her feet were spread like a boxer's, but her elbows were bent, palms out in front of her, red light still emanating from them.
