The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Honey, I've had an emotional breakdown and turned into a human flash-grenade in a bathroom. More than once. Weird comes with the territory nowadays," she said, looking back at the girl with a smile. "Huh. So you look like a teenager, but you're really...older than I am? That is a little odd, but I'm pretty sure we can get to the bottom of it. Stranger things have happened," she comforted, stopping to put a hand on Lenna's shoulder.
"We'll help you figure it out. Well...maybe not me, but someone will. And I'll definitely be there if you need me," she added, that motherly tone taking over again. She continued leading the way, letting Lenna walk more beside her than behind, if she chose. "So when do you remember your po--the thing with the orange first happening?" Skye asked, then volunteered her own story.
"My hair first turned colors when I was about twelve, and I realized it wouldn't hold hair dye. Later, my hands lit up, showing emotion. When I was fourteen I was picked on for it, and my emotions went into an overload and I basically blinded and deafened a chunk of the cafeteria. I only came to New York a couple of years ago to live with my uncle, and he helped me get into the mansion. Since then, I think I've learned more about my abilities than I have my entire life." As she spoke, the mansion became visible on the horizon, looming closer as the pair spoke.

Skye was feeling horrible; yes, she was angry at Mari, and yes, maybe she even deserved every bit of sass and bitterness that Skye had given her. But...seeing what it did to Mari...she was starting to understand why Mari tried to break up with her via text in the first place. It was easier to hurt someone when you couldn't see first hand what it did to them. Skye still felt tears welling up in her eyes though. That...she wasn't going to be able to stop.
"Yeah...she is," Skye said with a soft smile, looking at Mari with her watery brown eyes. "I hope you are okay....really. I'm sorry I was such a bitch. I...I understand a little better now. I was just...so ****ing pissed at you for ending it the way you did, but I never really...I never thought about how you felt going through this. I knew you weren't just being a bitch but....despite everything I knew about you, part of me just didn't want to believe that." She sighed, tears flowing freely from her eyes now.
"I guess I thought if I painted you as the villain here, it would make it easier for me to move on but...that was wrong and I can't exactly say it even worked. I was just as at fault for not understanding..." She let her eyes drop to the ground, looking very closely at her rainbow colored laces. Maybe it would have been easier to deal with this if she'd have just stayed mean.

"Yeah, I'm sure," Skye said with a nod of her head, hair and lights alternating between excited yellow and nervous purple. This was new to her, and yet she was enthralled. Hell, maybe this would end up being the first of many?
With a nod, she sat backwards in the chair, pulling her shirt up to expose her back and shoulder so that Rayne could work. The lights settled on that nervous purple, though her body relaxed and she closed her eyes, focusing back on happy thoughts.
For the most part, the girl was quiet, and Skye didn't know if that was good or bad. But it was obvious the kid needed help and some sort of...motherly instinct bubbled up inside her. She had to admit she was liking this protective side of her. Like maybe her training was actually paying off.
The 'shoved into the future' line went right over Skye's head, however. But she resolved to help this kid, and it seemed as though the mansion was the place for her. Hell, maybe if Skye had been sent there when she was the girl's age, maybe things would have turned out better...
Whoops. Dwelling on things like turned Skye's hair and lights blue, but she shook that off, and they turned into a happy orange as she focused on more pleasant thoughts. "Damn...well, come with me. I know people that will take good care of you. Three meals a day, a warm bed, and they can help you figure out what's going on with all the orange," she reassured as she started leading Lenna down the road in the direction of the mansion.
"So...you said something about being shoved into the future? I'm not quite sure what that means," she admitted as they walked. "If you don't wanna talk about what's going on, that's okay. But if you do wanna talk, I'm here to listen."
Skye smiled; she was glad that Emily seemed to be taking fairly well to this new side of her, the side that she'd managed to keep in check until now. When Emily's eyes narrowed, Skye met them with a big, playful grin. She didn't feel like this changed anything, just added a new dynamic to their relationship, though she still resolved to be careful. Even though this was an area where Skye was more....in charge, Emily was still the one calling the shots in the end.
"Good...though as long as I'm with you...I'm okay with whatever," she murmured softly, slipping one arm under Emily's neck while the other idly rested on the outside of her thigh as she snuggled into her more. She kissed Emily's shoulder through the fabric of her pajamas, closing her eyes as the pink started to shift again, bathing the room in an indigo light before shifting back to pink, creating a slow, steady rhythm as it shifted between comfort and affection.
"I don't know, that might qualify as some intense cuddling," Skye murmured softly against Emily before looking at her with an innocent smile. She was showing a side of herself that Emily hadn't seen before, a much more flirty kind of mischievous. Skye was well aware that Emily knew what Skye was feeling, sometimes before she could even make sense of it. It was honestly kind of cool, she had to admit. Though at the same time it meant there was no hiding anything. Not that Skye had anything to hide, anyway.
"Yeah?" Skye answered, looking down at her with that same innocent smile. "Well, I like being on top of you," she said as she leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss on the lips, then looked down at her before laying her head back on her shoulder and nuzzling. "And you can take that any way you want to, hun~" she said in an almost sing-song voice as she nestled in and closed her eyes.
"It was," Skye breathed, snuggling against Emily with a content smile. Normally she probably would have teased or made some sort of joke, but...not now. Now, she was sincere and still very in the moment. She let the mood die down, wanting to respect Emily's wishes, even though deep down Skye knew full well what she wanted, but...she wanted Emily to be comfortable more than anything. Was she in love already? Probably, but that was something she pushed down. She wasn't ready to admit that yet. But she was willing to admit that this evening had turned out great after all, because it had turned out a lot better than she'd expected, or than she'd thought it might earlier.
She bit her tongue when Emily asked what she wanted to do, because she was certain 'You' was not a viable answer here. "I don't wanna go out either. I like this. I'd be all for more cuddling, maybe talk about random bullshit until we fall asleep, something like that. I'm...You're quite comfortable," she murmured softly, nuzzling Emily's shoulder with her cheek.
"So I'm straddling this line between hyping you up and relaxing you? I can live with that," she said with a shrug.
She jumped slightly at the noise Emily made, but she closed her eyes and relaxed as Emily's hands ran along her back. That, she could get used to. And to think not that long ago, the mere thought of Skye showing her back made Emily freak out. After a moment, Skye pulled back and looked at the slight mark she'd made on her girlfriend's shoulder, and it made her smile a little. She kissed it before putting the fabric back and looking at Emily with a loving smile.
She knew Emily wasn't going to concede and call her a badass, but the girl could dream. Speaking of, she kind of felt she was dreaming now. She didn't think she'd be where they were now for awhile, even if they were still kind of trying to take their time. She lay back down on Emily, snuggling into her other shoulder as her hand reached up and idly toyed with Emily's hair, a dreamy expression plastered on Skye's face.
"You know...hearing that from you makes me feel really good," Skye admitted. "I love that I'm able to do that to you; I remember how it was when we met, and...it just...it makes me happy to know I'm not exhausting despite how...intense I can be," she said softly, with an equally soft smile in a moment of vulnerability. Emily was seeing a side of Skye that not many saw: the soft, conscious side of her that lay below the extremity of her powers and emotions.
Skye jumped a little, briefly turning green with surprise and shock at the answer. "Eep!?" she...squeaked? That was the only word for whatever it was that came out of her mouth, and she looked down at her girlfriend inquisitively. "You...you do?" That was not what she expected. Not in the slightest. And now here she was, blushing red as she bathed the room in a rare green light, which held a little longer than it usually did before shifting to a nervous purple, and then back to pink. She leaned down, kissing down Emily's neck before pulling her pajama top aside to expose a little skin where neck met shoulder, and she began kissing and nibbling, biting just a little harder this time, waiting for protest.
"Well, at least you finally admitted it. Now I'm just waiting for the day you call me a badass," she teased.
Skye was trying to be careful, to discern by Emily's reactions whether or not she'd crossed a line. As it stood she didn't think so, but it was hard to tell sometimes. Especially in this wonderful moment that straddled the line bordering awkward. But she was trying not to cross that line. As much as she was loving this.
"You cling to me more, but I still do my fair share," she said with a shrug. "You're going to leave a mark. Are you trying to?"
Skye blushed for a moment. "No...I'm not trying to," she murmured sheepishly as she got this gleam in her eyes and her mouth stretched into a mischievous, trouble-maker sort of smirk. "Do you want me to?" She kissed Emily's neck for effect.
"So you admit it. I'm more than just cute," she continued the teasing, finding that the joking took the edge off and kept her from accidentally going farther than intended. And the last thing she wanted to do was make things weird or uncomfortable.
Skye sat up, looking down at Emily from on top of her, giving the other woman a fake pout. "All this and I'm still only cute?" she teased, poking her bottom lip out and putting her hands on her hips.
The nails on her sent very visible shivers through Skye, and she closed her eyes, exhaling deeply before leaning back down to trail more kisses along Emily's neck, nibbling a little more before making her way up the girl's jawline and finally to her lips. "Yeah, I'm sure. It'll be fine. Worst case I can just crawl under the covers and cling to you for warmth, yeah?" she said after breaking the kiss, then gave a sly wink before she settled down, laying her head on Emily's shoulder and nuzzling into her.
"I'm more hot-natured anyway. It's fine," she murmured.
"You're not blaming me for this," she hissed, looking at Mari. "You almost fucked up your career. All I did was try to support and be there for you." She felt herself sobbing, and she just buried her face in her knees as the rest of Mari's words sunk in.
"So just like that you're pulling the trigger. First sign of hardship and you decide you don't want me anymore. Fine..." She gave a hard shudder, a mix of feelings surging through her as she did. "Fine. Just...let me know when you get this sorted, okay? I..." She didn't finish the sentence. She couldn't. There was no 'I love you,' to be said. It just wasn't right.
Pushing herself to her feet, she took a tentative step back. Her hair flashed blue and red again, but she steadied herself and it settled on blue. "Goodbye, Mari..." she mumbled as she walked away, going into the nearest restroom and closing the door.
In the following moment, there was a loud Bang! and a flash of bright light illuminated the outline of the door. Then, the door opened again, and a very tired, defeated, tear-stained Skye trudged out, eyes focused on the floor, not even looking at anyone as she made her way back out of the door.
Skye knew very well from her actions how Emily felt about her, and she'd wanted Emily too. In fact, before, Skye wouldn't have asked any questions, wouldn't have hesitated. But the caution to the wind party type wasn't her anymore. She was considering the needs of others, especially Emily. Now, Skye wasn't as concerned about going farther; she wanted it, but that wasn't the most important thing anymore. She was...relationship oriented now. And honestly, she had to admit she liked this new direction.
"Awww....no puns?" she teased slyly, noting Emily looking over her almost-bare figure. It made her smile; in fact, it made the pink flit to orange.
The mood shifted again, and Emily playfully pulled Skye down with her, and Skye giggled. "Oh, I'm fine. I'm plenty warm enough," she answered with another soft smile, her orange lights flickering as she leaned down and planted little kisses up and down her neck, occasionally nipping at the skin lightly.
God Skye loved that giggle. Especially considering how the night had been going before then. That giggle was a sign that everything was okay again. "Yeah, baby steps," she confirmed, nodding sincerely.
Skye felt her heart flutter as Emily watched her, somewhat feeling nervous now, but it passed. She shuddered softly, feeling Emily's hand on her leg, and she looked at her with a smile. "Yeah, bare with you," she quipped, laughing at her own bad pun before turning more sincere. "I will. I'll be patient, and we'll make it work," she said with a nod, smiling from ear to ear.
"You're worth it. And I'll do whatever it takes to make sure you're comfortable, she reassured, leaning in and giving her a tentative kiss.
"Well, I guess I live my life from one extreme to another. But you've been my anchor since I've met you," she said with a nod. She was dancing around saying it, because she wasn't ready to, but she was head over heels for Emily. She was in love, and she knew it.
Skye nodded slowly. "Yep. I mean I have nightgowns that I wear sometimes--but only those so that's not much better," she said with a small laugh. "But like I said, if I had to put on a three piece suit to share a bed with you, I would. You mean that much to me." Their eyes met, and the next thing she knew Emily was kissing her again, deeply. She returned it, just as passionately, and when it broke, Skye listened to what Em was saying.
"Okay. You're in charge here. If something becomes to be too much, tell me, okay? I promise I won't get upset. Just don't kick me out or anything~" The last sentence was teasing, and coupled with a stuck out tongue. Then, taking a breath, Skye kicked off her slippers and slid off the black shorts, dropping them onto the floor next to the shirt, so that she was now sitting on the bed in her purple underwear.
She blushed lightly, sitting crosslegged on the bed and not really making eye contact as she anxiously awaited a response.
