Character
Personality: Usually, Skye comes across as the quiet type who doesn’t show a lot of feeling. However, this is not to say she’s shy by any means, nor is she apathetic. This is just the air she tries to put on when out in public. She tries to keep any emotional reaction to herself, and so she can come across as unfeeling.
After a few moments of meeting her, one might discover that she’s best described as all sass and no filter. Most of her comments are cynical, sarcastic, and showcases her dry, dark humor. This can paint her as rude, and while she can be, she just has little patience for small talk and stupidity. And unlike most people, she’ll gladly let you know about it.
Deep down, Skye is a caring, emotional person who likes art, technology, and all things cute. She’s the type who’d quicker run from a confrontation than fight. She tries to keep her emotions—especially anger—in check, because she fears her powers and she lacks control over them.
Hobbies/ Interests: Books, Art, Computers, videogames, Job or part time job and description: None as of yet Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Her biggest concern is coming to terms with her mutation. She fears being rejected, and being alone. Also spiders, roaches, and other crawly things. Those can all go to hell. Special talents: Writing, Good at puzzles, generally has a good poker-face.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral: On the one hand, Skye has the best intentions, but as she’s still trying to find her place in the world, her morality can be kind of clouded.
Mutations
Mutation description: Can emit colored light from her hands: The color depends on her mood, and her hair changes color to reflect this as well. The brightness/intensity of the light depends on the strength of the emotion. Weak emotion: Her hair will just change color. Mild emotion: Her hands will flicker with the corresponding color Strong Emotion: Her hands will pulse with light Extreme Stress results in a flash-bang effect: A very intense, bright flash of pure-white light, coupled with a loud bang that can leave ears ringing for a few moments.
The color of the light—and her hair, changes with her mood to fit her dominant emotion at the time. Red is associated with Anger and frustration, Blue is associated with sadness and dismay, Green is associated with fear and shock, and Purple is for nerves or embarrassment. Only these emotions cause the flashbang effect.
Orange represents joy or happiness, Yellow shows excitement, Pink shows love or romance, Indigo represents contentment or peace. Rarely, when she’s in a neutral mood, or no one positive emotion overpowers another, her hair is brown and emits no light.
Power Growth 1/22/2020: Apathy: Skye can 'turn off' all emotions for up to an hour at a time. When she does, the lights emitting from her hands goes out completely and her hair turns white. Her voice becomes flat and monotone, almost robotic as her emotions are deadened.
When she turns them back on, all emotions hit her at once, her hair and lights turning black for a brief second, and she immediately flashbangs with potentially more intensity than normal depending on how long she'd been in her apathetic state. One minute would be a cute little ‘pop’ with a one foot range, five minutes would be similar to her regular flashbang, covering only the usual five foot area, while the maximum time of an hour would have a louder bang, a brighter light, and cover a radius of around 60 feet.
Strengths: Gives her an element of surprise, or an emergency light source. Can create distance in a dire situation, fun at raves.
The ‘flash-bang’ effect can disorient a foe, giving her time to get away, or whatever she needs to do.
PG: Can prevent unwanted flashbangs, or control when it goes off. Makes her temporarily immune to emotionally stressful situations.
Weaknesses and Limitations: While the sudden flash of the flash-bang can affect any in the area, it lacks any real destructive property, and serves only as a utility.
She lacks control, and often tries to stifle her emotions for this reason. While resistant to her own flash-bang effect, she is not immune; it can cause physical weakness and leaves her ears ringing for a few minutes. If under extreme stress, activating the flash-bang effect multiple times in succession can cause her to pass out.
PG: As soon as they turn back on, she flashbangs. An intense flashbang takes exponentially more out of her, making her feel like she's run a marathon, so using this in succession could make her sick or pass out.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: She’s average, at best in all physical skills. She doesn’t like to do much physical activity. Fighting Style: She’d much rather try to talk or escape than fight, though if she did have to fight, her style would be described as erratic at best. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros: Good at avoiding fights Cons: Can’t fight.
History Of Your Character
Skylar Jade Sinclaire is the only daughter of Allister and Marilynn. Her first few years of life, she’d spent a lot of time at her grandparents’ while her parents finished college and got their life together, only getting to see them on their off time. When she was about four or five, her father got a job as a lawyer, while her mother was working for some big corporation, so they did have more time for her.
While loving, her family was generally distant, always seeming too busy, so she took to reading as soon as she knew how. There were no other kids in her family, so she had a hard time fitting in with kids at school, from kindergarten on up. She was shy, quiet, and often seen as nerdy as she got older.
When she was twelve, she started to mature a little, and while still shy, she still managed to make friends—especially with the boys, for some reason. It was here that she found a love for computers and videogames, and it didn’t take long for her to become better than those that taught her. At fourteen, something else happened…her hair started to change color seemingly at random, and upon trying to hide this, discovered that hair dye wouldn’t hold.
She recalled her uncle Blaine being a mutant, and her family hadn’t spoken to him in years, so she was afraid. And of course, kids at school picked on her for it. After speaking to her parents, they’d moved her to a private school, and things got progressively better, except for going back to being the shy kid with no friends. At age sixteen, her powers progressed even more, with light starting to emit from her palms when under any mild emotion. When her peers questioned her about this, her hair turned purple, and purple light emitted from her hands, suddenly erupting in a bright flash of light that disoriented the students in her immediate area of the cafeteria, leaving their ears ringing, and parents and teachers alike, very upset.
After this, she was pulled from school, and had to finish her schooling via home schooling and private tutors. It was also now that she noticed her parents’ differing views on mutants. Her Mom seemed more distant, while her dad was…awkward…but still loving. After this incident, her Dad’s job went sideways, as did her parents’ marriage, and she lived with her mom at first, staying in the house they’d had before. However, after enduring mental and verbal abuse—which often resulted in Skye inadvertently destroying some of the furniture and upholstery—she was shipped off to stay with her father in a run-down apartment. He was trying, but it was hard for a defense attorney with a mutant daughter who couldn’t control her powers to keep a job.
She took up odd jobs, trying her best to save money and help her dad at the same time, but due to the nature of her powers, it was hard to keep one. After all, though she’d learned to sit on her emotions, everyone had bad days sometime. So, she and her father contacted her uncle, albeit without telling their true intentions, and soon…she was on a plane bound for New York City, in the hopes of finding a new life, and happiness.
[EDIT 2/27/2023]It didn't take her long to find somewhere she belonged: The Mansion. It gave her a home, a purpose, and an outlook on life. A reason to train her powers, to make something of herself. She found love, then lost it. Then found some more, and even unlocked a new facet of her powers. But then she got to thinking. What if there was more out there for her? Maybe there was something beyond New York, somewhere she could make it big, maybe even be a journalist or something. So, she set out for California to find herself.
Two and a half years later, she'd dropped out of college, but she did have a couple of erotic romance novels published. Life was...okay, but it seemed like something was missing. Something she'd left behind all that time ago. So, she packed up her things, again, and headed right back across the country to the other coast, to pick right back up where she left off.
Too bad it doesn't work that way...
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google, but I’m pretty sure I live here now. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Cesca Sample RP:
Skye pulled the hood of her hoodie up over her head as her father’s car headed down the road. Her brown eyes stared out the window, watching the buildings and horizon of her home state zip by for the last time. She wouldn’t look over at her father in the driver’s seat as her hands flickered with a light that matched the current deep blue of her hair. She knew this was for the best, and she knew he didn’t like it much either. The ride was spent in silence, and after what seemed like an eternity, she could see the airport looming closer.
But her father didn’t just pull up and toss her out; she knew he wouldn’t. He stepped out of the car, helping her grab her bags, and helped her walk inside. Then, once everything was taken care of and her bags were checked, it was time to leave, and then, they made eye contact.
“Be careful out there, Skye.” “Thanks, Dad…for everything,” she murmured, her hands flickering blue. “It’s for the best, keep in touch, okay?” “Yeah…okay.” “Skye, I love you. Take care of yourself.” “I love you too,” she murmured as she now had to turn to leave and get ready to board her plane, but as she looked back, her hair and the light on her hands flickering from a blue to a happy shade of orange. She could do this.
