The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Good. I want you to feel as comfortable as possible, always," Skye said with a caring smile. She could feel the atmosphere relaxing, and that made things a whole lot better. She grinned at Emily's compliment, her hair turning and settling on pink again; these days it was almost always pink when Skye was around Emily.
"Thanks, though when it comes to that, you're no slouch either, hun. You're beautiful." She leaned in for a peck on the cheek. And then came the question that made Skye blush darker than she had yet, for some reason. Normally this kind of thing didn't bother her, nothing dealing with intimacy or losing clothing usually did. But now...she found herself nervous. Why?
"Well uhm...I normally just sleep in my underwear," she admitted, and then her voice lowered a little, somewhere between a squeak and a whisper. "Or naked." She took a breath.
"I'm comfortable with you," she said after a moment. "I want you to be comfortable, and if that means I have to wear a three piece suit to bed, then dammit I will," she said teasingly, but there was still a hint of sincerity there.
"Maybe you're not, but you're perfect to me," Skye answered softly, giving a sweet smile. She caught Emily looking at her, and saw the blush; the girl had to admit that was a bit of an ego boost.
"Good. Because I like playing with your hair," she said, leaning in to kiss her again. "Yeah, that sounds good. For now. I...I really enjoyed that," she admitted sheepishly. "Though I know you already know that." She giggled softly as a light blush tinted her cheeks and she let her fingers dance up and down Emily's back as she looked into the other girl's eyes while her other hand continued to run through her hair in rhythm.
"But, uh..." She blushed a little, looking over at her shirt on the floor. "Do I need to put that on, or...I mean...this is actually closer to how I usually sleep," she admitted with a small shrug, though she'd gladly wear extra clothes if it meant sharing a bed with Emily. Something about that just felt....right.
"No! Em...I trust you. I do. I wouldn't be here if I didn't," she bit her lip, closing her eyes for a moment. "I'm not afraid of what you'll do. I just don't wanna risk pushing you away or something. Maybe I blame myself for what happened, wondering what I could have done different, ya know? It's not you. You're perfect..."
Their eyes met and Skye leaned into Emily's hand, pressing her cheek against the palm. "We've both got problems," she murmured, pushing herself back to a sitting position and wrapping her arms around Emily in a hug, burying her face in the other girl's shoulder. "But we're gonna be okay. I know we are." Her hair flicked to that red-orange that Em had helped discover as she looked back at her, leaning in for a gentle kiss. "You did nothing wrong. I promise." She smiled, running a hand through Emily's hair.
This may not have been a fun hangout, but Skye still wasn't going anywhere. They were going to work through this.
Skye leaned into Emily's arm, and then she spoke, and Skye felt her heart sink.
"What? No! I wasn't--I....Em, no. You're nothing like her..." She felt tears welling up in her own eyes. "It's just the last time I...did this...er....with a girlfriend...things didn't end well," she looked away, the lights fading to blue. "I'm sorry if that's what it sounded like. I didn't mean--"
She let the fingers of her other hand trail down Emily's arm. "I'm an idiot. I was thinking maybe I'm cursed or something. I don't wanna fuck this up. That's what I'm afraid of. Fucking up." She looked down at Emily again, another tear rolling down her cheek. "Emily, I...I l--I care for you. Deeply. I'm sorry." She shifted, lying down on her side, still looking at her girlfriend, her cheeks tinted a deep red as she bit her lip.
Skye looked down at her, nodding. "It's up to you. I mean...if you want to, we can...keep going," she said softly, noting the other girl's body language and tone. She was conflicted, and there was a fear there. Maybe it was time to come clean. She crawled off of Emily, sitting next to her and folding her arms across her chest.
"I'm...kinda conflicted," she admitted. "I want this. I really do; you have no idea." Then she snorted. "Nevermind. I'm pretty sure you do. But...I'm also kind of...apprehensive? I know, that's weird coming from me, all things considered. But...I'm afraid...like what if things change afterwards? I don't want us to go downhill or grow apart or anything..." She looked away, the lights turning purple to show she was nervous.
"We can still hang out either way. Even more of...that. God that was..." She looked at Emily with a smile, then took her hand, lacing her fingers with the empath's. "We'll figure this out. I do know I enjoy every second we spend together. And that's not gonna change."
"What I do in my spare time is really none of your business," she joked dryly before adding "No. I don't normally headbutt, nor drop games on my face for fun. I feel like I'd probably have more dents in my head if I did."
Skye chuckled."You're right. It's more like if Dr. Seuss and Lovecraft got together and came up with that ****," she said, sitting back on the sofa and giving a shrug as she relaxed a good bit, despite her cheek still being a bit tender. Okay, describing the sandwich...it was actually...enticing; much like a deal with an eldritch god, it would most definitely bite you in the ass later but....it was intriguing.
And then...came the offer. Skye looked at the sandwich, then at the girl, then back at the monstrosity. "You know what...you have piqued my interest," she said, the purple slowly fading into a content indigo. "If you're willing to share, then I think I would like to try some, yes." She gave a nod. So she'd be selling her soul to a sandwich, it seemed. Somehow, though, that made perfect sense, all things considered.
"Normally I would argue that I can be both, but...I'm gonna take your word for it~"
"I expected snuggles." Skye flushed beet red as well, though her hair and lights didn't budge from their current state. At the kisses on her neck, coupled with the nails gently raking against her skin, Skye practically collapsed on top of Emily, unable to hold her weight up anymore. She shuddered feeling Em's lips trail kisses up her neck, and her jaw, before meeting her lips again.
She hadn't felt such a fiery passion from Emily before now, but it was a feeling she herself was familiar with. She had to admit she liked seeing this side of Emily; it was new, exciting, and refreshing. But at the same time....there was this nagging feeling in the back of her head. Almost a fear she normally didn't have when it came to this kind of thing. But...it was there. And for once, Skye was...unsure. She knew how she felt about Emily but...were they ready for this? Really?
She pulled back from the kiss, deciding to defer to her girlfriend on this one. "Should...should we stop?" she asked, looking down at Emily and biting her lip as her mind and heart raced.
"Thanks, Em..." Skye murmured at Emily's words. For the longest time, Skye had thought something was wrong with her. Her powers seemed and her emotional intensity seemed to go hand in hand, which was why she'd had so much trouble controlling her powers at first. And yet...that also helped her to control them. If she could manage to focus, she could get those happy, positive, non-boom-inducing emotions when she needed them. And nowadays, Emily was her anchor for that. When she'd needed to light the way for the team on her last X-mission, Emily was where her focus was.
The kisses were different than Skye was used to with Emily, and to be honest, she liked this side of her. Deep down she hoped she wasn't pushing her into something she didn't want to do, but at the same time she trusted Emily to let her know. In fact, when Emily hesitated, Skye had paused, waiting for the other girl to stop her. But she didn't.
Instead she felt hands running up and down her back, and her eyes drifted closed. "I don't know what I expected when I came over," she breathed with a small smile. "But I don't think it was anything close to this."
Skye's negative emotions were washing away, one by one as each second passed by. Seeing Emily sort-of smile eased the tension even more, and then she felt the other woman's hands roaming her skin and her eyes closed slightly, just barely looking down at Emily through her lashes. "Can't be any worse than you seeing what goes on with me," Skye murmured back, giving a slight shrug.
Emily leaned her head into Skye's shoulder, and Skye leaned into it. Seeing that Emily seemed comfortable with their current situation, she relaxed considerably on that front as well. She was still unsure of what to do there, but...she wasn't going to force anything either way.
"Well, I did. I fell hard for you, Hun. And...given the choice I'd do it all over again," she said just as Emily leaned up and kissed her again, and it didn't take an empath to note the increased passion and intensity. After a moment, Skye leaned back, her hair and lights now very firmly settled onto pink as she took a breath and tossed her shirt to the floor before diving right back into the kiss.
"No. You're not. We're both just working through some shit, that's all," Skye answered, reaching out and wiping away a tear from Emily's face. The hands on her bare back made her visibly shudder as they kissed, the sadness fading away the longer they were together.
Emotions were complicated; something that both girls knew all two well, from two different points of view. This kiss was much more intense than usual, and it sent more shockwaves up the rainbow-mutant's spine. When it broke, Skye was slightly winded.
"It's fine, Em. It's nobody's fault. Just a misunderstanding," she murmured, looking down at her and letting one hand run through Emily's hair, fingers gently brushing the other girl's cheek. Skye had grown quite fond of doing this, and it made her smile as she leaned down and kissed Emily's forehead.
She looked down at her girlfriend, a slight blush tinting her cheeks as she realized their exact circumstances, but she shook that off so as not to ruin the moment. "Em. I think you're an amazing person. In fact, that's what led me to fall for you in the first place. And don't you forget it." She smiled.
"I've already told you. You're not getting rid of me easily." Her lips stretched into a cocky smirk as she topped her comment off with a wink.
Things may not have been fine in the moment, but they would be. They had to be. Skye would never forgive herself if she did something to lose Emily or otherwise ruin things with her. Her hair and lights turned purple, though thanks to the kiss, it probably wasn't that noticeable; Skye'd realized she hadn't gotten a chance to pull her shirt down, which would potentially lead to even more awkwardness when it came to light, but as it stood...she was lost in the moment.
Skye didn't know when it happened, but she'd been practically clinging to Emily as they kissed, and when Emily fell back onto the bed, even if it was just a little, physics took over and Skye went too.
"I won't, Em. I'm not going anywhere," she answered, her voice just as quiet as a stray tear rolled down her cheek, though there was a soft smile on her lips. "I promise," she added before closing the slight distance between their lips again, her hair going back to that soft pink glow as she closed her eyes.
"Interesting. My hair and lights match to show my emotions, in a sense," she explained. "But you see everything except my lights in orange. But...my lights sometimes turn orange too," she mused as she scratched the side of her head that didn't have hair lying across it.
She listened to the girl explain, waiting her turn to speak. "Well, I don't know of any conditions that can make one see orange. And from what you explained, the orange may be connected to winning a game that you were rigged to lose. Mutants have abilities that other folk don't have, like my lights, or douchebag's electricity back there."
She paused, looking around as she led the way down the sidewalk. "So, again. Do you have somewhere to stay? Do you need a place? I can set you up with a room, and help you figure out your troubles with orange. Or, anything else you may need help with. If you're interested, that is." She gave a smile, looking at the girl with a motherly look.
Skye didn't know why, but she felt the urge to protect this kid; to look out for her, maybe even take her under her wing. Today didn't seem to be the girl's first brush with trouble, but there was still time to turn her around maybe. And the mansion would be a good support network. If the girl wanted to go, that is.
"No, it's not. Just a misunderstanding, is all," she said softly. "I-it's fine. It's fine." Honestly she didn't know if it was fine or not, so she was talking to herself just as much as she was her girlfriend.
And then, she was there, again in front of Emily with her back turned and her shirt pulled up, and there was silence. Again. In front of her, the lights on her hands turned purple, and then pink as she felt fingers gently tracing along her shoulder, sending a shiver down her spine. "It's okay, Hun. And thanks," she said with a smile, turning her head at Emily's direction, leaning into her hand. "You're really too sweet," she murmured, then gasped a little as her girlfriend kissed her.
Skye's body twisted and moved so that she could fully face her girlfriend and be more comfortable in the kiss, her arms wrapping around her. In that moment, she forgot that her shirt had been rolled up, but she didn't think breaking the kiss to fix that would be such a good idea.
Skye felt her heart sinking as it raced a million miles a minute. She felt stupid; like she possibly just threw away what had been the greatest thing to happen to her in a long time.
"Yeah...I got a tattoo the other day," she said sheepishly. "I thought...." she sighed, wiping away a stray tear. "I thought you'd like it. I didn't mean..." Her eyes stayed glued to the floor, not making eye contact.
After a moment, she did look up at Emily, the blue light still pulsing from her hands. Slowly, she moved to sit next to Emily and gave her a quick peck on the cheek, nuzzling her. Then, she turned her back to Emily, pulling the shirt up again to show the tattoo.
"See? I really didn't mean anything by it. I just...don't have many other ways to show you," she said as she looked over her shoulder at her girlfriend.
She smiled as Emily subconsciously reached out and touched the piercing; it was nice. "I know, it was part of my whole style change, honestly," she said with a shrug. "Though I might bring it back occasionally."
But after she showed the tattoo...the mood changed, and it wasn't for the better. Skye could tell something might've been wrong when she didn't hear any sort of reaction or comment. She turned around to see Emily against the bed, looking...well...freaked out. She pulled the shirt back down, turning to Emily as her hair and lights turned blue.
"I'm sorry. I thought you'd like the tattoo is all," she stammered, not knowing what to do. "Did I cross the line? Is it not a good look? Something else?" she asked, just standing there awkwardly. Should she go toward her girlfriend? Should she leave? What should she do?
So, she just stood frozen, her eyes dropping to the floor. "I'm sorry...I...should I go?"
