You've done it girl, ruined any chance of a normal friendship with someone as awesome as Astrid, all because of a pair of pretty eyes and graceful wings. Was she really so hard up she was hitting on some poor girl who'd only just discovered a whole other aspect of life, still coming to terms with it. But damn was her hand so soft and pale and lovely.
She'd only just clocked exactly how pale the younger girl was. The tone gave even Alice the look of a tan and she never left her room. How could she still be finding ways this 'raven' was amazing her?
Lost in those dark orbs she almost didn't catch the response. Almost.
"You....really?" Did she just get a date? That was.....surprisingly easy. A blush was developing and her heart was beating out a happy little dance in her chest, it was really weird. She never usually flailed about this much when asking a girl out. Or getting asked out as was kind of the case there but still why was this hitting her so hard?
It must be the wings and stuff, yeah that was it. Alice did have to admit she was in that very small group that found physical mutations particularly attractive so it must have been that. She was just a little excited about it, that was all. No other reasons for it. At all.
Lying to herself made it easier to deal with, for now. Calmed her down a little too, the gears started to turn again and she was already making little plans and figuring out logistics for a date. A movie might be cool but would it be comfortable for her? Maybe a meal? Ooo maybe she could make a bunch of stuff and they could have a picnic in the park! That had always been a dream date of hers.
"So do you have a phone number? I think we kind of exchange numbers now, or something." Way to act subtle and confident, totally convincing there girl, "And is there anything you really like food wise, just out of interest?" Very subtle.
With a little time she might be able to practice some french style cooking, make something really special. Oh this was going to be awesome, she really hoped this went well, it'd been a while since she'd had a girlfriend and she missed being able to share that kind of intimacy, that trust.

Sense, really? She could barely get heads or tails of it but apparently Maya had some ideas? At least they were shifted back to the 'normal' world. And she was getting praised, which was kind of awesome, especially by a real life freaking superhero. The idea of leveling up her power was also kind of cool, but Alice had no clue how to go about training her power.
"None, at all. About the only thing I've got is decent flexibility, but that's only from yoga." Hard to kickass with yoga forms. Hang on mister bad guy, let me just get my mat out and start stretching.
"It's hard for me to actually put on weight, of any kind. Along with all the fun stuff I have a hunger bar, goes down within an hour and after that I get very ill." It as tough building muscle or getting any benefit from exercise when your calorie intake had to be more than twice a normal persons.
Still, she got to eat anything and not get fat. That kind of rocked.

She really had to be more careful with how she spoke about her mutation, too many people were finding out about it. "It's kind of weird. You ever seen video games and all the health bars and stuff they have on the screen? That's basically my power. I have the power of nerdiness." Did kind of make her like the nerdiest mutant ever, her power itself was based on games. Still a little embarrassing to explain.
The dreaded boys room. Oh god why did it have to be cleaning toilets? Now she had to enter the one place in the mansion she wanted to see the least. The home of the dirty, smelly boys. Their domain.
Thank God Jack kicked out the only guy in there, though not after further proof that boys were just not as good as girls, she had to roll her eyes at the shrimp when the teen finally left along with a muttered, "Boys." Was there an all girls chapter of Xaviers? That'd be cool.
Taking the sign and getting it set up and grabbing the wet floor one as well and propping it up outside the door for later. It must have been needed for liability reasons or something but hey, at least that was an easy job.
Having a quick snack before they started, that should at least tide her over for a while, at least it was maybe an hour until her bar was completely empty. "So, what task do we start with? I'm guessing it's cleaning the mirrors or something." Hopefully it was a less disgusting task, something to ease her into the horror that was to come.
Gloves! No way she was doing this without gloves. Pulling on a pair of oh so fashionable neon yellow rubber gloves, she must have looked one hell of a sight. "Lets get this over with then, can't be the worst experience of my life." It'd be up there true, but a forced marriage kind of trumped everything else as far as life experiences went for her. Hard to find something that topped that.

People didn't like snakes? What!? They were awesome. So smooth and slinky, such cute little faces. Oh god and the way they flicked their tongues out from time to time was just adorable. "Some people have no taste then, snakes are so cool. Who can't like their beautiful scales and the way the curl around your arm?" So yeah, she'd wanted a pet snake for just a little while, annoyingly her mum was terrified of them and grandmother believed they weren't fit pets for a 'lady'. Of course the old bat had tried to give her a stupid ugly dog, as if that was even in the same league.
"Oh I will, they'd must look amazing." He already looked like some other worldly model with his hued scales and odd looking hair, having his coils to work with and pose would look great. "Have you ever wanted to do more of that kind of stuff? I mean having pictures and that done?" Not that she'd stalk that career at all. In any way. Ever.
Had she? Well she'd not been here long so she'd not had a chance yet. "Not had much of a chance yet, although I've heard about the mansion of course. It seems, OK I guess. At least there's somewhere we can go for advice if nothing else." The Mansion had always been just stories to her, never really on her radar until moving here. Now she knew it was her sisters alum school, among other things. "I've might have been doing some research about some mutant friendly LBGT places in town, if that helps?" A girl had to know a few useful things after all. How else was she going to find lovely girls down with the whole mutant thing. And girl thing.
She could kill for another to be honest, "That sounds awesome but this ones on me, can't be owing you too many favours." Pulling out a couple of tens from pocket and offering them to the big man, she wasn't taking no for an answer. Seemed only fair to get him a drink after he'd gotten her one.

Stand still? It might work and hell, anything was better than the migraine inducing light show she was getting from it. Looking out into the danger room was weird, she knew it was there, she knew logically they could go back out into it but it just didn't seem real.
"Hmm, not really helping. Maybe..." trailing off in her own thoughts she reached out a hand and touched the glass.
Well that was interesting, her map came into focus and showed the room on the other side of the mirror, well as much as she could see within her range at least. Other than that she had empty space behind her, that was just wrong.
What on earth was her power? Was she attuned to the world around her or something, or maybe it was like a psychic field, it just didn't make any sense. "This is so cool! When my brain has some kind of connection to the real world it has something to work with. God how weird is that?"
Still pretty damn amazing, she and Maya were like the perfect scouting squad.

Seamless switch! Iggy was pretty good at this and having a support player was great, she could sit and tank stuff even easier than alone. Gave a little bit of variety in her build as well, she wasn't as heavily dependent on life steal, she could get some more interesting skills in. "Awesome job! This'll be so easy with us both!" Nothing like a good tag team pair to completely ruin some poor bosses day.
God that move was hilarious, Leo just zipped around the screen wiping out all the little annoyances and they were soon just left with big bad and ugly. "Sweet work, lets focus down the boss and we might get some decent loot." These games were all about the loot and Illora good definitely do with a nice new sword or hammer to deal some even more impressive damage.
"Just one more hit and........oh yeah! Time to vent some rage." When you built your skill resource by getting hit or doing damage, you always had to spend a little time in combat before the really big guns came out. Rapidly tapping one the skill button, she hammered the boss with a giant spirit hammer over and over, slowing him with each hit so there was no way he could get away. "That's more like it."

So, if she had a little crush on Nessa before, watching her stare down her supervisor and defend her kind of made it a huge crush. A huge crush she couldn't do anything about because the law on that had been laid down pretty hard. For good reason but still, hard to not get some feelings when someone like her is fighting your corner and being an all round badass.
During the verbal exchange Alice kept the most contrite innocent look she could, which frankly was not convince but hey, worth a try and let the boss do all the talking. She was good at it after all.
She was Nessa's intern now.
Was Nessa her actual boss now? Had she just been claimed? Today might have been up and down but it was fair to say, it was in the top five best days of all time. Hang on, was this a joke or could that actually be a formal thing?
"I promise sir, it won't happen again." Alice was going to make so much nice food for them tomorrow to make up for it, really pull out the stops. Maybe a good old fashioned veg stew or something. Yeah, that was an idea. Oooo or a traditional Indian curry, those were pretty uncommon here.
Letting the goddess among women drag her out the building she was on the verge of hugging her mentor. Her amazing, pretty mentor.
Appropriate thoughts Alice, she didn't need you fawning over her after the little revelation earlier and frankly she could be an awesome friend to talk about all the gay stuff with. All of it. God knows she could do with an older more experienced voice when it came to navigated certain issues, as well as someone to squee with over cute girls and stuff.
"Nessa. You. Are. The. Best. Seriously that was freaking amazing! And don't sweat it, I should have been more aware of the situation." There was no way she was blaming her idol now, she'd just taken a metaphorical bullet for her. "You ever need a hand with anything just shout, I am totally in your debt right now."
She was going to try and be subtle but, well she was bad at that so screw it, "There anything you really like eating? I want to make something for the people in the office and i want it to be something everyone can enjoy." Mostly her, since impressing her favourite person right now was kind of important.

No space? That explained how quick she moved, but how did that work? It just defied logic. Then she got the offer to step into the mirror and frankly, how could Alice say no? "Are you asking Alice if she wants to go through the looking glass? Bit on the nose don't you think?"
This was just, indescribable. It was the weirdest feeling she'd ever had experienced and it just kept getting weirder. What she guessed were mirrors from the outside were like windows into a hundred different places, although the only ones she could make out at the moment were the ones to the maze. Didn't help her mini-map was freaking the hell out.
It just kept forming and shifting the image, as if she was moving between places. "Oh this is freaky. The map can't focus, it's like it doesn't have something to anchor too." It was starting to give he a headache, the flashing messing with her eyes and now she notice the compass constantly changing where north was.
How on earth did Maya navigate this place? It made no sense.

Wait....what? She couldn't be hearing right, there was no way Astrid had just asked her out. No, there had to be something else to it, why would someone as cute as her want to ask out a weird English girl?
It must just be some sort of translation error, just a fluke. She didn't mean it girl, she's only a bit confused about stuff. Stop freaking out inside and process it. There was a simple and logical answer and all she had to do, was calm down a little, figure it out and go from there. Just don't freak out on the poor girl OK. Easy enough, right girl?
Alice hated her brain right now. It just was not handling this. Opening and closing her mouth a couple of times trying to say something, she took an almighty swig of her beer. OK her new friend, who had only just found out she was gay, was basically asking her out. In a way. It's just, should she go for it? Was it something else? Why wasn't she at least saying something to the young woman in front of her?
"I, well yes I do like you. More than a little." Damn pale skin, she couldn't get away hiding the blush or heat creeping up her neck. "If you mean what I think you mean at least."
Well Alice, it's was go for broke moment. Astrid was cute, french, was fun to hang out with and oh yeah, had wings! There was no reason she shouldn't say yes. If she wasn't flailing and being an idiot. Which she was known for doing from time to time.
"I think you're cute and awesome and oh god why I am i the one freaking out about this?" In for a penny in for a pound girl, "but if you are asking if want to go on a date with you, then of course I'd want to."
Reaching her hand slowly across the table, this was the moment of truth. Resting it lightly on her (maybe more than) friends hand, Alice looked her in those beautiful black pits she had for eyes, "Do you feel the same way?" Her voice was small, quiet and so damn hopeful.

"It means role-playing game. Kind of like a more awesome version of dungeons and dragons." Oh she could just feel the judgement as soon as she said that, it was so funny. "Don't worry, you'll learn pretty quick. Can't be letting my secret little nerd not knowing about this stuff."
"Maybe you could, just remember to mention little old me when your accepting awards for those amazing story lines. Can't be forgetting the girl who got you there after all." It was enjoyable to joke around with Allegra. It was weird, she wasn't a girl Alice would normally hang out with well, she was kind of cool. There was a lot to her and she funny. "But there are games where you are the noble, rescuing damsels and fighting dragons, you can even have your choice of lovelies for your fun. Christ in one you can actually have a relationship with a guy who turns out to be the only surviving prince, who you can marry and become the queen of the country with."
Games like that were fun, being able to be a champion of justice and rightness, but something about a game asking more serious moral questions really struck a chord with her. It challenged her preconceptions about the consequences of her actions and made her think a little differently about some of the things that were so common place in those games.
Oh s---, that was a good point. Normal people didn't do that whole thing. At all. "Yeah she's kind of, old fashioned. Made a big scene and basically said if I was living in her home I would do as she said, when she said. Kind of why I left. Well that and she hid the fact I had a sister from me for my entire life. But yeah, mum and Serena are pretty understanding about the whole, lesbian thing and sis has pretty much said that she's going to make sure grandmother can't take me back and force me into it." Which was scarier than she first thought because her sister was a ninja. Somehow.
Awwww, that was sooo sweet of her! "I love the fact you're already managing my love life, but I get the impression that the girls here have a tragic case of the 'straights'" So many cute girls, so few interested in her that way. So unfair. "It goes both ways though Allegra, I will be your wingwoman around here. Plenty of good looking boys around the place."
Didn't like jocks? Very interesting, she was definitely not just some simpering cheerleader. "He is cute, or you could try the guy in the drama club, he's pretty interesting." Was she more into someone with a bit of depth and more in touch with his feelings? Good to know. Should be at least one of them in the school, among the horde of horny boys.
"She is cute, how long have you had them?" Still not as awesome as a cat though. Cats were just, well pure sass in animal form and kittens were dangerously cute. They were the Atom bombs of the cute animal world.

You get get grades in wood working? Was that just an American thing or was it the same back home? That was pretty sweet though, she'd never really thought about it much but it kind of made sense. It took as much practice to be skilled in it as any scientific field's needed for studying. It was also artistic, which Alice loved! Probably because she was decidedly not.
The cart? Yeah that would probably help. Watching Jack struggle a little she helped wiggle the cart through the door, more than a little amused by the image of Big Chief in such a small closet. The world wasn't really built for so much awesome.
"Sounds disgusting but you've a point. From experience the girls isn't usually too dirty so it shouldn't be too bad." Never in her life, had she wanted to see the inside of the boys loo's. In fairness during high school she'd barely wanted to be in the girls either, too many b----y teenagers hung around there.
Checklist? Score! That always made tasks easier, left you a solid series of things to do rather than guess work. "I swear to god if my power gives me a quest for this I will official hate it." Seriously brain, don't you dare make fun of her now.
Well, it was behaving.....for now. It'd probably do something stupid in a bit.
"The boys are that way right?" pointing down a hallway, Alice had a decent idea about the layout of the mansion by now. Came with years of living with an accurate map apparently.

Alice blinking when Maya sudden disappeared. That was......incredible. How the hell could she just teleport between mirrors? And why was she disappearing from the map when she did?
She'd get a warning message for her teacher to return to the area for all of a second before her icon pinged back up on the mini-map. That was trippy! It was like whenever she moved mirrors she was going to a completely different place. What was it like? Was it huge or small, was it dangerous? All very important questions but they could wait, this time she couldn't copy a route, she had to quickly map it out herself.
Fun times but she was getting a feel for the labyrinth now, it didn't take long to memorise a route and take it. Somehow it was even quicker this time to find the woman in the looking glass, "That is so weird, you popped of the map whenever you moved mirrors. Like you didn't exist in the same world or something."
The sci-fi nerd in her was coming up with so many wild and implausible answers. Could it be wormhole travel? Or maybe she was keyed into some kind of alternate dimension! The mirrors could be just a visual way her brain adapted to cope! "Whats it like when you move, what does it look like?" Too many late night movie marathons refused to let her not ask the question.

She liked the Demon Hunter, it had a really cool set of skills but frankly, nothing was more fun than being able to jump on enemies and hammer them into ground. Especially since at later levels, the barbarian got life steal perks for attacking. And you could increase your attack speed. And Gain damage reduction at low health. It was all just a bit hilarious.
"OK, switch as soon as I launch!" Watching for the right moment, she spotted the opening and her character leapt into the air before slamming down on the boss. "Got him stunned! I'll crowd control him you mop up the little'uns." Another great thing, she got plenty of stuns slows and taunts to keep enemies withing smashing distance.

Was it hard? That was a, difficult question. Looking at it objectively, things were so much better nowadays for people coming out, especially teenagers but it was hard to accept that with all the leering faces and creepy comments she got in high school. Or the numerous boys saying she was lying because she was, quote, a frigid b----. Showed them though didn't you girl? Started dating the girl all those horny boys fantasised about.
"Yes and no,which I know doesn't really help. We have it way better off than we ever did, but there's still people around who want to hate anyone different to them." Would it be easier to make a more relatable analogy? "You know how there's people who hate mutants, just because they're mutants. It pretty much like that."
So yay for more ammo for the bigots. Alice was lucky, her mutation wasn't visible so mostly people just threw out the usual insults for a lesbian, Astrid wasn't so lucky. Well, she was pretty, could fly (couldn't she) and had a spare tongued mentor more than used to dealing with a---holes.
Astrid really, really needed to stop messing with her head so much. Either she was as clueless as she appeared, or she was the most masterful flirter the blue haired teen had come across. Ugh, how awesome would it be it that was the case, it opened up so much more fun possibilities right then and there, so many. But no, she had to be the good gay mentor, not hit on her protege and make things harder.
Why did doing the right thing have to feel so damn bad!
"Well, I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with the idea. You could spend a few days or weeks wanting to process everything, or you could find a girl you've been crushing on and ask her out." Not the best option for saving feelings but hey, it'd worked for her. "I basically went and asked her out and well, she wasn't into girls like that."
Taking a long dramatic pause before dropping the best part, "Apparently her older sister was. Her gorgeous older sister." That had been a great relationship. Sire it had ended but she could honestly say she had no regrets about it.

Grinning at the reference, "Someone a fan of sci-fi then? Sweet." It was pretty obvious how much of a nerd Alice was and she loved having people quote movies and games at her.
This time, this time she'd be way quicker. Letting Maya get far enough away, but remembering the route she'd taken, she set off as soon as movement stopped. Ha, this would be easy! No way she'd miss her this time.
Unless someone cheated. It only took her a minute or so to get to the right place, but she walked past Maya's hiding place twice before she clocked what was happening. Looking up at the person in the mirror, it wasn't her own reflection. That was just mean! And so cool. No wonder it had looked weird on her mini-map, but she'd not clocked Maya's power as a possibility.
