Character
Personality: On the face of it Alice is a typical rebellious teen, hating authority, stubbornly refusing help or advice and doing stupid things because she could. Because of this she can come across as selfish and mean, but in reality she’s really introverted and just uses all those things to appear confident and strong. Thanks to her upbringing she prefers isolating herself, playing games so she didn’t have to deal with the outside world. This has left her bad at dealing with people, making it hard for her to make, and keep, friends.
Like a typical teenager from the UK she swears far too much and has already started drinking. Most of these are simple coping mechanisms. Deep down, she’s just a scared girl who doesn’t know her place in the world and just wants somewhere to belong. Alice is generally a nice girl, even if she hides it. When she feels strongly enough about something, she will go out of her way to help people. One thing she does hate though, is people who try to control others. She had enough of it growing up and won’t tolerate it anymore.
She’s likes to think she's a jaded cynic, but she’s an optimist and is generally hopeful about people. Alice already knows what she wants to do for a living and has been actively working towards getting the qualifications needed. This has given her a certain sense of purpose, even if she doesn't yet know where life will ultimately take her.
Hobbies/ Interests: Gaming, on anything, in any way. Loves to work on computers and older tech. She spends a lot of time reading engineering manuals. Secretly wants to make videos online or work behind the scenes on those kind of channels. Has a secret passion for cosplay, but she isn’t very skilled at it, not being able to practice the necessary skills much. Job or part time job and description: None Fears/ phobias/ concerns: She will do anything to stay away from her grandmother. Thanks to her upbringing, she has a fair distrust of authority, the police especially. Can’t leave her current ‘quest’ undone for too long before she starts to obsess over it, especially if it’s a more mundane quest. It’s like she’s not making progress in her own life. Special talents: Fantastic cook, she’s helped her mother with meals since she was a child. Decent understanding on the inner workings of computers and consoles, even able to do moderate repairs.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Broadly good, if somewhat selfish. She’s a typical rebellious teenager. Likes to think she’s smart and tough, able to do all the bad things people her age want to, but won’t actually do anything really wrong.
Mutations
Mutation description: The Gamer - Alice power is basically a game menu and comes with a Heads up Display (HUD). It has everything an average HUD would have, health bar, stamina, hunger bar etc. It also has a minimap, ‘quest tracker’ and experience bars. Once her power formed, it has always been one, always in her sight. It has a list of her ‘skills’ and how proficient she is in them. Things like cooking, crafting, weapons styles etc. She can mess with the settings of the menu, but all that allows her to do is resize some elements, re-colour certain aspects and hide non-essential parts of the HUD. She can form ‘parties’ of 4 people (including herself), giving her their location on her minimap, as well as a health and stamina tracker on her HUD.
Strengths:
- It’s always on, so unless she meets an adapted or a mutant who can disrupt powers, she can’t ever be lost, can tell when she needs a meal or some sleep and will always know where she’s meant to be.
- Her mini map has a 25m range and shows the landscape, buildings etc.
- Thanks to her health and stamina bars, she has a fair idea of how much danger she’s in any situation, since she can quantify how much ‘health’ an attack takes off her.
- With the ability to see her skills, she knows every ability she’s picked up in her life, how good (or bad) she is with them and what proficiency level she is. (Novice, Dabbler, Journeyman, Master and Grandmaster)
- The parties she form give her the ability to co-ordinate and keep watch over 3 other people at once, without needing line of sight. This makes it a useful support skill, if she were feeling in a cooperative mood.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
- It’s always on. Always. It limits parts of her vision, affects her depth perception and her field of view. It can be very distracting at times and at night, making it harder to sleep. It might not project light, but looking at in the dark is fairly uncomfortable.
- The minimap doesn’t show people's locations, unless they are in her party. The map itself is more stylised than an accurate satellite image and it also doesn’t allow her to see the inside layout of any building she isn’t in. When inside, the map doesn’t extend outside, even if her range is larger than the building itself. Can’t see the layout of areas behind locked or closed doors either.
- A weird side effect of her power leaves her with an increased appetite. Her hunger bar drops at about the same rate as it would in a game, going from full to empty in 1 hour. This means she needs to take in more food in order to stay healthy. It does stop counting down during her sleep, letting her get full nights sleep. This doesn’t increase her weight gain, since the extra calories fuel her power, or at least that’s what she thinks. So far, as long as she eats to just fill the bar, she has normal weight gain/loss. Letting it run empty won’t instantly kill her, but it makes her very ill. After another half an hour without food she loses consciousness.
- The quest marker doesn’t tell her distances. It could be a block over, it could be a continent away, all it gives her is a direction. She can also only have one quest active at a time, so if she doesn’t clear it, she can’t gain any new ones. Quest can be anything from finding her long lost sister to missing milk from daily shop.
- Knowing exactly how skilled, or unskilled you are in everything you ever do has left her pretty jaded about learning anything new, without the discovery and joy of learning rather than it just being something else to grind out.
- To form a party she needs to be able to touch the person to add them. She can only form the party link with willing people and they can leave the party at any time they wish. If they stay outside her minimaps range for more than 20 minutes, she loses the connection. They connection is instantly severed if one of the members dies and she suffers a significant mental shock, rendering her unconscious or worse. If more than one were to suffer the same fate, the side effects would be much more severe.
- Her ability offers not physical or mental improvements whatsoever. Her health is simply a quantified show of how generally healthy she is and the skills aren’t learned any faster than a normal person.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Pretty average across the board for a teenager her age. Somewhat decent flexibility thanks to a few years of yoga. Fighting Style: Dirty. Alice might not be trained but if someone tries to hurt her she’ll go for any and all tender points. That and running, very fast. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Anyone with even a basic level of training would easily beat her, but for garden variety thugs it can usually solve things.
History Of Your Character
Alice was born thanks to a drunken fling between her high society mother and a man who turned out be Serena’s father, making him also her Uncle. He had been married to her mother's older sister, a woman Alice never got meet, since she’d died before she was born. Her mother never gave her any information about the man, and she never asked. It just never mattered to her, the only person in her life that seemed to care was her grandmother who had more than a few harsh words about him.
She grew up relatively happy, spending a lot of time with her mum, cooking, laughing and exploring her own interests, even if her mother wasn’t treated very well by the family matriarch, she wasn’t actively harmed or pulled down by the woman. They were mostly left alone to go about their lives on the estate and as such, Alice had a pretty stable childhood, receiving a very good education along the way.
As she grew older, her mother's career started to take off, making her have to travel for longer periods of time, and spend longer stretches away from the family home. Unfortunately this left Alice mostly alone on the estate, her grandmother generally ignoring her. Thanks to this, she started to develop more than a passing interest in gaming, using it to distract herself from the loneliness and help deal with the growing burdens her grandmother started to place on her.
Once she hit puberty, she was more withdrawn than ever. On the face of it she was doing fine, getting good grades in schools and making sure her mum didn’t feel guilty about leaving her for such long periods, but deep down she wanted to be selfish. Alice barely interacted with friends outside of the digital world, spending most of the free time she had either playing games, or taking apart the tech she kept buying on cheap online auctions. It all came to a head when her mum’s job was going to take her out of the country for a few years. She wanted to cry and scream, beg her to stay, be a family again, but she played the part she had for years, acted happy and encouraged the career move, all the while dying inside. The next morning, she woke up with the HUD in her vision.
After an appropriate amount of freaking out, she told no one what had happened and went about her life as if nothing had happened, pretending everything was normal while learning as much as she could about, whatever this thing was. It didn’t take her long to find the limits of her power and it quickly went from a freak event, to something that was just there. The increased appetite was certainly a massive downside, since she had to take to stealing from the kitchens to stay functional. All the while she went through the process of puberty, finally catching the attention of her grandmother. So that was fun.
Now that she was becoming a woman, her grandmother finally seemed to think she was worth talking to, although their ‘talks’ usually revolved around what her responsibility as a Rivers was, how she was a part of their family and what her role would be in it. Alice pretty quickly started to dislike the old woman and her controlling attitude. This began her teenage rebellion, which she very quickly went full force on. Every time the matriarch tried to rein her into control, the worse she got. Piercing her ears, dyeing her hair, drinking, it all started to escalate until she received a bombshell. She was part of an arranged marriage. Somehow.
She didn’t remember much about the argument itself, only her screaming, the disapproving looks and something about having a sister. She didn’t remember the next few days, spending them in a blur of high strung emotions and terse talkings too from her grandmother. So she ran away, left to New York, to find her lost family.

New Quest Acquired: Find Your Long Lost Sister
Even a week later she had still not wrapped her head around that revelation. Her entire life and no one had seen fit to mention a sister, much less tell her anything about the mystery woman. Her grandmother kept trying to force the arranged marriage issue, even after Alice had made it very plain her feelings on that issue. Or the fact he wasn’t quite her type, but that didn’t seem to matter to the old woman. There had been many arguments/screaming matches in the following days most of them culminating in her storming off and locking herself in her room. That and a few worried calls from her mother about why she was being difficult, because of course the old bat had only seen it from that angle.
The quest popped up every now and then, giving her a constant reminder that her life was screwed up completely. Why had it only shown up now? Why was it important for to find a woman she’d never met and frankly didn’t want to now, no matter how curious she was about her. Or how much she wanted to escape.
“Little lady, if you live in my house, you will do as I say, when I say it. There will be no more arguments, You will marry him, you will carry on our family legacy and you will smile while doing it.”
“I’m not some broodmare whose only job is to spawn brats for you and if you think for a moment I’m staying here now, with that threat, you can f--- off. I’m done.”
After a few more shouted comments, Alice had just stormed out, packed a bag and slipped out of the estate. The old bag didn’t want her to stay? Fine, she had a quest to complete.

Character
Personality: Skye is tough and no nonsense, when she isn’t acting for work. She grew up in rough circumstances and has a harsh strength to her. Generally she will act nice, polite or flirty when on the job, her real self only comes out with friends and lovers. With them she is sarcastic, cynical while still loving to laugh. She generally teases and has fun, sometimes too much, at her friend’s expense.
While she will for the most part keep to herself outside of work, she won’t be pushed around and will readily defend herself from creeps, bigots and the general jerks and is more than well versed in this. Slow to trust and not one to make many friends, the ones she does make find themselves with a steadfast, unshakable friend who will fight their corner against all odds. Growing up how she did made her learn the importance of having someone's back. For all her steel spine she won’t rock the boat ad stays out of any political limelight. To her it was all exposure she didn’t need, for know she was happy to do her job and just hang out with her friends. As far as all the weird stuff happening and people disappearing, she doesn’t care as long as it hasn’t happened to one of hers.
Hobbies/ Interests: Loves dancing and working out. Reads a lot of older novels and poetry books and loves shopping with gal pals. Mutations
Mutation description: Pheromone Manipulation Skye has the ability to use natural pheromones to influence people's mood and emotions, to varying degrees depending on exposure and a person’s natural ability to resist chemicals. Her power is based upon touch and the length of time she is in contact with them. A quick brush will only give someone a slight rise, holding hands for a few minutes and the emotion state gets more urgent. If she is in contact with someone for an extended period of time and using her ability the emotion can become overwhelming and dangerous for the body.
Due to the nature of her power she can only affect more primal emotions and out of them only certain ones. Right now she can induce states of Joy, Lust and Rage and the strength of the emotion depends on each one and the person's current emotions and emotional stability. Time limits will vary wildly but on average up to five minutes will be a mild increase in the emotion, very easy to ignore. After thirty minutes the feeling is very difficult to resist and usually takes a strong will to not be overwhelmed. And hour and longer and even the strongest willed person will have trouble thinking clearly for extended periods of time.
Joy is the easiest to influence and least likely to be resisted, everyone likes feeling happy. It takes only a minute or so to get some feeling the urge to just have fun however overlong influence can make someone reckless in pursuit of enjoying themselves.
Lust depends very heavily on the person and their mood. At work, while dancing a brush of her hand can elicit strong reactions, where walking down the street and accidentally bumping into someone who was busy would have barely any effect. While not dangerous with overlong contact it makes it much harder to concentrate at high levels.
Rage is difficult, most people don’t actually want to start fights and fewer still would do something much worse. In most situations, with most people it would take extended contact to induce a state and would wear off quickly as their brain rebelled against the idea, however someone prone to violence on in tense situations it can be used more effectively. Because of the nature of the emotion, this is the one most dangerous to Skye herself, someone lost to anger can turn on anyone quickly and they will be having a decent amount of adrenaline in their system making them stronger and faster.
Strengths: -The power is subtle and only those who can recognise that kind of influence would have any defence against it. -On most people it is relatively safe to use even with an hour’s worth of contact. -When people are happy or lustful they are generally more willing to trust you and give out certain information. Pillow talk gets all kind of juicy gossip. -In scary situations she can push people further than they might go if she needs to escape or has a goal in mind and getting a fight started is a useful tool when losing a game of high stakes poker. -Skye can control how strong the pheromones she are producing are. Lowering their effect can be useful if the person is already near the right level. -Her reserves of pheromones are very high and can keep using them for a long time. -In theory she can affect as many people as she wants, since her power is chemical based.
Weaknesses and Limitations: -Under high stress or intense emotional moments Skye can’t control her power, she loses the ability to control its strength and can’t turn it off. This can cause major problems depending on situations -It’s somewhat unpredictable since it’s based on each individual's size, weight and metabolism and as such takes a decent amount on concentration to influence someone to the correct level. -The effects take a while to leave the body and will build up with repeated contact in a short time, this can lead to pushing people to far by mistake. -When trying to use rage it can very dangerous and not just to the people in the way. Pushing a person to much and giving them too much of a dose can cause high blood pressure and even mild heart attacks. -Her power isn’t unlimited and will deplete over time, as well as taking a full week to complete restore from ‘empty’. This process also requires to to eat more high calorie food as well as an increase in the vitamins she needs to take in. -Skye isn’t immune to her own power, while she does have high resistance to similar effects, the longer she uses her power the more the current emotion will affect her, usually making it harder to think. The ratio of how it affects her is about ¼. And hour touching someone at full dose is the same as fifteen minutes for her. -The power only affects people. Other animals or mutations with non-human aspects aren’t affected at all. Any mutant who can filter their blood in some manner, or ones with increased healing factors will be under the influence for a lower amount of time, if at all. -At full dose she can affect one person for a total of 3 hour before emptying her reserves. If she's not careful one night dancing can drain her completely due to the long time it takes to recover. Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Strength - About the level of an decently athletic woman who exercises regularly. Spending nights dancing is a very good work out. Reflexes - Skye has a high level of reflexes coming from years of cheating at card games and surviving on the streets. Very dextrous with her hands thanks to card tricks she’s honed for years. Stamina - High from years of fending for herself and the large amount of training she gets regularly from dancing every night. Flexibility - Pole dancing, yoga and dancing makes a person very flexible in deed. Plenty of practice in other arenas too. Speed - Lower than average, although not for a woman with her, proportions. Being extra curvy comes with some big disadvantages when trying to move quickly.
Fighting Style: Since being on her feet she’s been practising a bit of Akido for self defence. Before that she learned to brawl on the streets and is quick with a knife. While she is decent at protecting herself, well trained people or ones with difficult to deal with mutations just outright beat her and she isn’t good at pulling punches in a fight. If she gets in a fight someone’s getting hurt. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: (if applicable) Dirty and unpredictable, very few people know how to fight someone skilled with a knife. However a person trained with proper weapons and fighting techniques will be able to beat her fairly easily. History Of Your Character
Skye was born after her mother had a fling at a young age and fell pregnant out of wedlock. Not just that with how old she was and there being no hint of the father her family cut her off completely, kicking her to the curb with nothing from them.
Thanks to this Skye grew up in relative poverty, her mother working herself to the bone to just provide for herself and a young child, burning herself out to keep her young one with a roof over her head. The longer this went on and repeated refusal from her family to help, Skye’s mum started to fall into deep depression and started to completely withdraw from everyone when Skye was only around 8.
Skye did everything to make her mum happy, tryed to get her to play, put music on even just hugging her tight to try and make her feel a little better and bit by bit, it helped. Soon her mum was spending hours at a time being the old her and anytime they spent together was happy. Unfortunately whenever Skye was gone to school or on a trip the depression would keep coming back.
It wasn’t until she hit puberty hard at 13 and some of the things that came with it did she start to realise why her mum was happy with her. By touching people she made them happy or now, she made them look at her very differently. More than one boy had to be fought to stop them kissing her and soon she was spending less and less time at home out of guilt for these weird events. She didn’t want her mum acting like that.
Unfortunately not long after Skyes 14th birthday her mother committed suicide, leaving Skye alone with no family to take her in and the system trying to put her into foster care while ignoring her wishes. Rather than stay around she ran away, lived on the street and fell into abusing her power for gain and gambling to earn enough to eat and occasionally stay in a motel. Life was at least, manageable for a while, she even saved up enough to go across to New York and enter some larger stakes games.
Life went relatively well in the U.S until she bet too much on a too risky game and lost everything at what she came to realise was a probably rigged game in the Atlantis club. An offer was given as a way for her to earn money, and while she wasn’t pleased about the idea of being a dancer in the club, she soon came to enjoy the freeing job and the feeling of being on stage. Earning more money than she ever did gambling, finding a stable income, home and even some good friends, she has been dancing there for more than two years.
