The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mutations
Mutation description: Mutation description: Devyn has dozens of hard, malleable purple tubes coiled around her body, just below the surface of her skin. Visually, the tubes are pale purple in colour with a smooth, dull texture. The tubes can burst from her skin and be manipuled by Devyn with the ease of manipulating any natural limb. They are incredibly strong, fast and the ends are sharp enough to pierce flesh and other soft materials with ease.
Strengths: Up to two dozen tubes can burst from Devyn’s skin at any one time with a maxiumum lengh of 30 ft. The width varies from about 14 gauge up to 2 gauge and the length varies from about 10 ft to about 30 ft. The tubes can be manipulated in any direction while remaining attached to her body and can bend any way a piece of rope might be able to bend. When outside of her body they have approximately the hardness of steel and are incredibly strong and dextrous. The tips of the tubes are pointed, allowing them to easily pierce flesh and other soft objects. They have the capability of piercing cloth or leather or impale themselves in all but the strongest wood. They are not strong enough to go through any sort of metal or stone.
The tubes are very agile and move quite fast, about the equivalent of peak human running speed, though for longer periods. Their strength is sufficient to move cars but not quite sufficient to throw them.
While to tubes are essentially organic and a part of Devyn's body, they do not rely on actual muscles in the same way her regular human body would. As such, they will tire as her entire body tires, but they will not tire if they are left to operate relatively independently of the rest of her body. To clarify, if she were to start running and physically exhaust herself, her tubes would also feel the exhaustion. However, if she were to lift things with her tubes, the tubes wouldn't feel any fatigue though their anchor point on her actual human body might.
Weaknesses: When the tubes are inside of Devyn’s body, they have very different properties than when they are outside of it. While inside, their hardness is comparable to chitin. While still hard, it is also brittle and a hard blunt force impact has the potential to shatter them, forcing jagged shards into her sensative insides. Only when they burst out of her skin and undergo a chemicle reaction when they encounter air do they gain their steel-like hardness.
Devyn has an unusual physiology. In addition to the needs of a regular human, she must consume a large amount of salt and iron in order to remain healthy. Without these things, she will sicken and weaken.
When the tubes burst from Devyn’s body, it isn’t exactly a painless process. The level of pain is akin to recieving a large gauge piercing.
While the tubes themselves are both very fast and strong, the rest of Devyn's body isn't any more spectacular than a regular human body. As such, lifting things and especially if things are swung around with her tubes, is somewhat painful for her. While her body has adapted sufficiently to her mutantion that she is unlikely to seriously injure herself in doing so, given the way the tubes are anchored to her body, the more weight they carry and the more momentum they create, the more uncomfortable and even painful it is for her.
While Devyn’s tubes are incredibly dextrous, they have few sensory capabilities. Their sense of touch is almost non-existant. They can detect significant temperature changes and relative hardnessor softness of an object, but little aside from that.
While the tubes can erupt almost instantly, at the speed of human reaction, it takes a little longer for them to replace themselves inside her body, approximately 1 second per foot for each tube.
Because the tubes are hard under her skin, it is nearly impossible for Devyn to rest entirely comfortably. Something is always pinching something else.
On the thick tubes, for each foot of tube that is cut off or destroyed while outside her body, it takes 1 week to regrow. It takes half that for the thin tubes and double that for tubes that are shattered inside her body.
In moving particularly heavy objects, especially with momentum, it is sometimes necessary for Devyn to anchor herself with another tube.
Secondary mutation description: Devyn’s skin has adapted such that it heals almost instantly. While it still hurts for hertubes to burst out of it, as soon as they return inside her body, the opening of her skin heals itself.
Strengths: Minor cuts and scrapes don’t really matter at all and her skin doesn’t scar.
Weaknesses: It is literally only Devyn’s skin that is able to heal. Any wound that goes beyond the surface of her flesh still has to undergo healing normally. The healing factor of her skin only helps with the most minor of cuts and scrapes.
Tattoos and piercings are impossible as Devyn's skin will simply heal them out of her body.
Fighting Style
Explanation: Devyn’s power is her fighting style. She has little in the way of skill with actual hand to hand combat, but who needs it when you’ve got your very own short ranged weapon that can incapacitate virtually any threat?
Pros for fighting style: Effective out to 30 ft. Also unusual enough that few people would be expecting it or prepared to face such a threat.
Cons for fighting style: Not effective at long range. If she doesn’t have access to her power, she’s pretty much defenseless.
Faction Allegiance The X-men/ The Order/ The NYPD/ Unaffiliated
History Of Your Character Devyn had a relatively happy childhood, complete 2 loving parents and a loving older brother and sister. She was the youngest of three and often doted on and spoiled because of it. She came from a liberal family, one who didn’t especially dislike mutants. In fact, even from a young age, she could remember her parents talking to her about the importance of tolerance. Her aunt Tanya, she knew, was a mutant and although she didn’t get to see her aunt all that often, she remembered tricks she used to display at family gatherings. There was just something magical about the way she could literally bring to life her little oragami creations. Even though Devyn knew the difficulties mutants often faced, she could remember distinctly telling her mother that one day she wanted to grow up and become a mutants. Some little girls wanted to be doctors or dancers or scientists, but she wanted to be a mutant.
Devyn’s older sister Krysta was the first one in her immediate family to discver she was a mutant. Devyn was 9 at the time and her sister was 14. It happened at school. 2 bullies were picking on Devyn, something notentirely uncommon. Her sister was coming to pick her up so the two of them could walk home when she saw what was happening. Always protective of her younger sister, Krysta got angry but instead of simply punching the 2 bullies she screamed as the skin of her right arm turned to metal before eyes and elongated to violently hit one of the bullies, knocking him unconscious. The other fled in terror and, fortunately, the bully that was hit, aside from a minor concussion, was unhurt and made a full recovery.
Devyn was never especially jealous of her big sister, but could almost be said to idolize her. Over the course of the next few years she watched in awe as her sister learned more about her own powers, that she could turn small portions of her skin to metal and manipulate the shape of that metal. After that day no bullies ever bothered Devyn again, although she wasn’t oblivious to the looks of fear sent in her direction and, even more prominently, in her sister’s direction.
Aside from the mutant presence in her youth, Devyn managed to live a fairly happy childhood, even if normal wasn’t an entirely accurate description of it. She was a moderately intelligent and engaged student with a small circle of friends. She was also a natural athlete, getting into gymnastics early and excelling at it. More than anything except her mutant dream, she wanted to become a gymnast and every day she would spend hours dedicated to her craft. Because of her older sister, people were generally too frightened to really do anything against her and besides, it wasn’t as if she had a terrible amount of enemies anyway. She was generally liked and likable.
The first signs of Devyn’s own mutant power started to show itself around the same time her sister’s had first manifested, at the age of 14. Her hair began to fall out and her skin began to take on an unhealthy pallor. At first she was terrified that she had caught some horrible disease, but no doctor could find anything medically wrong with her. Over the course of the next several months the truth became more and more apparent. Her skin continued to lose colour until it was posatively clear but instead of what one would naturally expect to be under skin, there were strange purple tubes coiled around her entire body, from head to foot. It was when she was practicing her gymnastics one day that the truth of her power became apparent. She slipped from the parallel bars but, before she hit the ground, there was a sharp pain in her chest and one of tubes burst forth and coiled itself around the bar, saving her from potentially serious injury.
The visible and unhidable nature of Devyn’s mutant status changed her outlook forever. No longer was it just the occasional look of fear, but that look was everywhere and, it seemed to her, upon every face. Friends would no longer associate with her and she found herself not welcome in any of the places she used to associate with, including her gymnastics classes. Her dreams of becoming a professional gymnist, because she was cursed with something visible and unhidable, were dashed forever.
Things came to there worst just before her 17th birthday. A gang from school came to their house with knives and guns and attacked her family. Her older brother Steven was killed in the process, her mother seriously wounded. Krysta and Devyn managed to wound several of the attackers in the process but the damage was done. Devyn was heart broken over the loss of her brother and the knowledge that it was her fault simply for being a mutant. Nothing she had dreamed about as a child had turned out like she expected; they were nothing more than the delusions of a niave child. Her parents gave her money and, heartbroken themselves, watched as their youngest daughter left their house to make her way in an uncertain would that was going to hate and fear her wherever she went.
New York, of course, was where Devyn went because she knew it was one of the very few places she could go. For a year she travelled, hitchiking with those who would allow her to do so and committing petty crimes in order to survive. Some nights she was able to find a cheap hotel to sleep at, most nights she slep on the streets. One advantage, at least, of looking like a freak was that few people were likely to bother her.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Returned from a long absence.
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Previously Meld, Amber, Juka and Raven
Sample RP: There was something to be said for the tendency for mutants to take on new names and now that Devyn had made to her destination, it was time she take on a new name for herself. Looking up, she spotted a rod several stories above and, after taking careful aim, a tube burst from her skin and wrapped around it. She winced slightly at the pain of the purple tube erupting from her skin. There wasn't even time for it to bleed, however, as her skin healed around it.
While it couldn't be said that lifing herself from the ground was exsctly effortless; not with the stress her wrist felt where the tube was anchored to her body, it was nevertheless far easier than it otherwise would have been for a regular human. Not, of course, that a regular human would have been able to lift themself off the ground over a story without outsie assistance. Shifting her legs back and forth to gain momentum, Devyn began to swing farther and farther until she had enough momentum to swing herself onto the building. From there it was a combination of her years of gymastics training and a second tube bursting from her chest to grab hold of a large antenna stuck in the top of the building that allowed to land on her feet on the top of the building, several stories abovethe ground. A mere thought and the tubes retreated back into her skin, healing over perfectly and without a mark.
Skydancer. That’s what she was going to call herself. Because she would never lose her natural grace from her hears of training and her tubes allowed her to swing and spin from virtually anything they could wrap themselves around. Once she performed from structures a few feet off the ground, but now she could do all that and more from several stories up. So, Skydancer it was. A new name for the start of a new life, whatever that life happened to entail.
