The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Luke Jacobs stood on the dock that led out to the ferry to Liberty Island. He had been forced to reschedule this site seeing trip with Victoria for a week later than originally planned but on the positive side it had given him an opportunity to ask Raina to join them. Victoria needed to make more friends and Raina would be a wonderful addition to that list. Not only was she a great listener but she was a teacher that could help Victoria learn how to control her powers.
Being a typical man, it never even entered his mind that Victoria might already be emotionally attached to him and would be hurt to meet his girlfriend. The last time they had seen each other, Luke had forced his mind to only think of her as a little sister and because of that, he was doing his best to watch out for her. He still didn't the thought process of a young woman, but he was trying to do his best to be helpful.
The weather was perfect for their outing and as he stood on the dock Luke found himself enjoying the feel of a slight breeze and the warmth of the bright sunshine on his face. Even with the sunshine, the temperature ws still below freezing and as such he had chosen to wear black hiking boots, gray ski pants, red sweat shirt, and black leather jacket.
He had picked up Raina and brought her to the ferry, arriving a good fifteen to twenty minutes early. At his suggestion, his beautiful girlfriend had gone in to claim three seats while he waited outside of Victoria to show up. As soon as the young woman showed up Luke would take her inside and introduce her to Raina as they made their way over to Liberty Island. It was a perfect plan and a perfect opportunity for Victoria to make a new friend... as long as emotions didn't get in the way.

ooc: just an FYI I figured to stay true to character not to read your entire previous thread! I started reading some and read parts of others but I figure Raina should know only what she knows Sometimes I find it hard when I know as a writer everyone's history. So here I go! PM me if I need any changes along the way
IC: Raina found herself a seat on the deck of the ferry. She'd brought a rather large purse containing an extra pair of clothing just to be safe and she had strewn it across one seat to save it and her pale green scarf across one of the other seats to save it as well. She was dressed nicely in a long flowing green dress that wasn't formal but something freemoving someone would likely wear outside. It was warm and knit but with the winter breeze coming up from the water she was questioning her idea. She wanted to look appealing to Victoria. It wasn't that she expected the young woman to check her out in that sense, Raina could just appreciate that on first meetings it was always nice when the person seemed as less intimidating as possible.
Raina's dress complemented her skintone and hair nicely and she was wrapped up in a long black dress jacket that allowed the hints of the green to show through. Her hair was pulled back in a long plait that revealed her eyes and the little dark roots that gave away her ethnicity.
She sat on the chair watching Luke making a note to look away whenever a young woman seemed like she was approaching. She didn't want to seem intimiating but she didn't want to seem creepy either. She trusted Luke.
She knew Luke was just a big bleeding heart. Just like her. She was sure it was one of the reasons their romance had been so passionate. It's all well and good to have common interests but when you have common fibers... moral fibers even... it could make everything in life that much more passionate.
She was nervous though and she had admitted this to herself. Having a real boyfriend helped her realize that despite her mild manners she could be quite jealous. Her last visit with Luke had shocked her in regards to her own behaviour. She forgave herself that once- afterall how was she to know she'd react that way? but now that she knew it was a possibility she was determined to be sure it didn't happen again.
She'd treat Victoria like any other potential student. She'd try hard to show her kindness and compassion, putting herself in Victoria's shoes.
Thinking about Victoria's mutation Raina's eyes glanced back to the bag of clothing. The clothes were intended for Raina least she get wet but she felt a pang of empathy for Victoria knowing very well that the young woman may need them as well.
She looked out toward the water and thought of Leila. At least she only went part marine animal when she got wet. Poor Leila went whole...
Victoria was running later than she had hoped. She had got into the habit of erring on the side of caution but things hadn't quite gone to plan. There had been the minor power cut which had prevented her alarm clock from going off at the right time so Victoria was late getting up which put her in a bit of a panic and then she had dropped her breakfast cereal on the carpet. She was reasonably confident that she had mopped it up so that it wouldn't stain, or smell for that matter. The odour of sour milk was not something she wanted to return to. She hadn't had any breakfast in the end, just a cup of tea drunk between mopping up the milk and getting ready to go out.
At least the decision over what to wear had been easy. Although Victoria had managed to do some shopping for really essential items, she had not had the money left over to extend her wardrobe. So it was the sensible knee length skirt and sensible shoes topped off with a modest blouse and thin cardigan. Victoria had a coat but had decided that it was too heavy for the fine weather. She hoped she wasn't going to need it.
Victoria was reasonably confident that she had locked the front door. By the time she had decided that maybe she hadn't she was at the bus stop and it was too late to go back and check.
To cap off a poor start to the day he bus had been late, which meant that she would have had time to go back and check the door, if only she had known.
"I'm going to worry about it all day." She thought and remembering something her parents had taught her, "I need to remember to say 'lock'ed, lock'ed' to myself when I turn the key."
As a consequence she had to leap off the bus and make a sprint for the ferry, arriving with only a few minutes to spare. She really didn't like cutting it that fine. Running was really not her thing and it took a minute or so for her to catch her breath.
"Hi, Luke." She finally managed to gasp out. "I'm sorry I'm late."
Victoria had had it all planned out, a big hug to start and then a kiss but in his presence and still out of breath and rosy-cheeked from running she suddenly felt all shy and stood nervously in front of him, not knowing how to proceed.

Luke had begun to think that Victoria wasn't going to make it and then, with only minutes to spare she appeared at the edge of his sonar, jogging toward the ferry ramp.
"Hi, Luke. I'm sorry I'm late."
"No problem... you made it before the ferry left so that's what matters." Luke replied with a smile as he turned and waved a hand toward the boarding ramp that led up to the ferry, "We better get on board."
Almost as soon as the pair set foot on the deck of the ship the ramp began to be pulled away and the ferry began to move off toward Liberty Island.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make it last weekend but I had some... strange things happen to me." Luke mentioned as they slipped through the crowds of people, heading to where he knew Raina had saved their seats, "But it did give me a chance to meet some people that I think can help you with your gift. I don't know if Tris had a chance to introduce you to her friends yet but I know that you can trust these people."
Finally breaking through the crowd Luke found Raina, along with two empty seats. Smiling at his girlfriend quickly, Luke turned back around to Victoria in order to make introductions.
"Victoria, this is Raina a teacher at Xavier's Sister School." Luke said with a slight wave of his hand toward the red haired woman. Swiveling his head back over to Raina he gave her the smile that was reserved for his girlfriend, and her alone, "Raina, this is Victoria Llewllyn one of the newest employees at 'Jacobs & Jacobs'."

Raina sat idely glancing around the fairy. She was starting to get nervous. She consistanty checked her watch every 30 seconds knowing the ferry would leave soon. Where was Luke and this Victoria?
She decided to look up at him despite not wanting to seem like she was staring and was relieved to see a woman join him. Now if she could only mentaly tell him to turn around and get his butt in high-gear she'd be set. Thankfully even without telekenesis Luke realized the boat would leave and got himself and Victoria on the deck.
She straightened up in her chair trying to watch them approach. There were a few people in the way but soon her eyes fell on Luke. He was such a welcomed site after this past work week that she forgot momentarily about Victoria. A smile pulled at the edge of her mouth and her eyes lit up. She felt the butterflies in her stomach. That was her Luke.
"Victoria, this is Raina a teacher at Xavier's Sister School."
Raina stood up with her hand extended to greet Victoria but fell silent and frozen for a moment. Victoria was stunning. She felt that little pit in her stomach. She held her hand out anyway for Victoria to take.
"Raina, this is Victoria Llewllyn one of the newest employees at 'Jacobs & Jacobs'."
That's right. She worked with Luke. She'd see Luke everyday. Luke would see her. Raina wasn't all that sure suddenly if she liked that. She mentally scolded herself and reminded herself of the pact she'd made moments earlier not to get jealous. Raina wasn't the jealous type... was she?
"Hello Victoria." she said in a musical voice. "I'm Raina. I help recruit students for our school and help them adjust once they arrive. " she was going to go into more detail and start asking Victoria about her mutation but tried to remember what it was like for Leila who didn't even know mutants existed aside from herself. Everything was a shock for her so since then Raina was working extra hard to be extra sensative. So for now she'd make small talk. "Have you been in this City long? I am from up North... it's colder than it is here." she grinned. "Have you been to see the statue before?" small talk indeed.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make it last weekend but I had some... strange things happen to me."
"That's okay." Victoria replied, wondering if she should be curious about the strange events of the weekend. On balance she thought not. "It did give me a chance to get myself a bit better sorted out in the apartment."
"But it did give me a chance to meet some people that I think can help you with your gift. I don't know if Tris had a chance to introduce you to her friends yet but I know that you can trust these people."
"No, she hasn't yet. I guess she must be busy." Victoria replied, She had thought about Tris a few times since their meeting but Victoria had been a bit lax in following up. Part of it had been that she wasn't sure if Tris wanted to be bothered with her and she had been waiting for Tris to make the first move.
"I should call her." Victoria admitted.
Victoria was a little surprised that Luke was moving with such purpose until they broke out of the crowd to find an attractive woman in a pretty green dress and black dress jacket looking after two extra seats and obviously waiting for someone. It didn't take much effort for Victoria to work out that she was waiting for Luke and the looks that passed between them told a story that she really didn't want to hear. Subconsciously Victoria suppressed the obvious conclusion, instead choosing to believe that they were just friends; after all, they hadn't kissed.
Victoria would have been surprised at Raina's assessment of her as 'stunning'. She had never thought of herself as beautiful or even pretty. She would have been even more surprised, shocked even, that someone might be jealous of her.
"Hello Raina." She said shyly, taking the other woman's hand and gripping it gently, "I'm pleased to meet you."
"No, I haven't been here long, only about....." She had to pause and think about the answer, "five or six weeks. I'm from Castine in Maine. And I haven't done any sight seeing yet; I only moved into my apartment last week. Luke has been very kind, with the job and helping me get the apartment. I like your dress."
It had all sort of run together, and Victoria stopped suddenly, embarrassed and worried that she had been babbling. Her own comment about Raina's dress had stirred a thought in her mind. There were still a few items that she hadn't been able to bring herself to dispose of and were sitting in a box in storage in her home town. The main item therein was her mother's sewing machine. "Now that I have my own apartment, I should send for it. I wonder if Raina would let me take a pattern off her dress?'

Luke took one of the seats beside Raina and comfortably slipped an arm around her shoulders. It wasn't an embrace exactly but it did show that they were friends. Smiling slightly the blind man listened to the two girls chat back and forth.
"Oh, I wasn't that kind with getting you the job. Miss Langstan has been giving me reports on your progress and she's been very impressed with how well you focus on the tasks you're given." Luke replied his smile broadening into a grin as he felt the cool breeze ruffling through his short cropped hair, "She's glad to have a dependable employee."
Luke had never been to the Statue of Liberty before since he knew his sonar wasn't powerful enough to 'see' the entire structure. He had a maximum range of approximately 100 feet and with the statue an pedestal, Lady Liberty stood over 300 feet. He had heard plenty of people talk about it over the years and, as with so many other times in his life, Luke found himself wishing that for at least a few moments his eyes would be able to work.

Raina smiled at Victoria but felt a shockwave run through her as Luke sat next to her and slung his arm around her. She didn't expect him to be affectionate in anyway- afterall they were still getting used to this boyfriend/girlfriend thing and she knew before she even left that kissing him or hugging him would be inapropriate and unprofesional given the situation. But feeling his weight against hers sent the butterflie barroling through her stomach. Just a little touch was all she needed.
She motioned for Victoria to sit down as she started responding to her questions.
"five or six weeks. I'm from Castine in Maine. And I haven't done any sight seeing yet; I only moved into my apartment last week. Luke has been very kind, with the job and helping me get the apartment. I like your dress."
Raina felt herself smile. It wasn't going to be hard at all to be nice to Victoria. She had a certain innocent charm about her that Raina liked instantly. Feeling less threatened she hoped her own kidness would readiate.
"Thanks." she giggled. "I like the dress too! Little chilly for today though. I got it at bloomingdales" after the fiasco of buying the previous dress from Bloomindales Raina had saved up a few pay cheques and went to buy her own. Just to show that awful employee.
"Maine eh?" she grinned. "I came through Maine to get here! "
There was a short exchange between Luke and Victoria:
"She's glad to have a dependable employee." Raina snickered knowing that Luke's night time escapades made him a little less dependable at work.
Raina smiled feeling much more comortable now that she'd learned more about Victoria and Luke had his arm around her. She was sure she was going to enjoy this trip... but she wasn't exactly sure how she'd get on the topic of Victoria's mutation without making her feel uncomfortable.
It didn't help that seeing the Statue made her think that much more of Paris.
Victoria took the seat next to Raina, murmuring a 'thank you' to her and tried desperately not to think about the implication of the position of Luke's arm. Victoria pretended to look at the city as the ferry pulled away, glad that she was able to her face turned away from them thus hiding the tears that had sprung to her eyes. She knew it was silly, nonetheless she couldn't help it.
"It is just a crush." Victoria told herself, an echo of something her mother had said to her when she professed to love someone. Of course it had just been some silly infatuation toward someone in the street they had passed or briefly spoken to on one of their evening walks. Remembering her mother was not as painful as it had been; perhaps she realised that remembering things as seemingly insignificant as an admonishment of silly but harmless behaviour helped keep her alive in Victoria's heart.
Raina's giggled response to Victoria's complement of her dress struck a chord and she smiled despite herself and turned to look at her. She hadn't forgotten the unshed tears in her own eyes but hoped that they would not be too obvious. She hadn't really thought about buying dresses. Her mother had made all her clothes until Victoria had been old enough and skilled enough to help and then to fully cooperate. She had even made some by herself though they hadn't turned out as well as she had hoped.
"She's glad to have a dependable employee."
"I try." Victoria replied, blushing at the complement. She had made a few mistakes but maybe she hadn't made as many as other new employees. Victoria really didn't have enough information to go on.
Victoria lapsed into silence, not knowing how to advance the conversation and feeling almost an intruder into the their lives. This time she did look at the city and the other vessels on the water. She had lived near the sea all her life but this was a very different landscape to what she was used to. The city took on a whole new aspect from this perspective.

The silence was beginning to grow and Luke didn't want things to just become uncomfortable. He was Victoria to be able to open up to Raina and talk about her mutation so he figured he had better try to keep things in motion.
"Victoria... would you mind looking over at the statue and telling me what you see? I'm afraid my sonar doesn't have the range to pick up the whole statue so I'll need you and Raina to be my eyes today." Luke spoke up, his voice friendly as he tried to keep the young woman in a relaxed frame of mind.
"And by the way, how is the new apartment working out? Has Ms. Williamson been making sure you have everything you need?"

Raina wondered if she offended Victoria when she turned away or if she was simply looking at something of interest. She felt a pit in her stomach unsure of what to do but then Victoria turned to her with a smile. A man may not notice it, and a blind man especially may not notice it, but as an emotional woman Raina could read sadness in Victoria's eyes. Of course, Raina thought it was something completley different and piecing it together from where Victoria was looking she wondered if Victoria missed home.
"The sea makes me miss home." said Raina. "In more ways than one."
Just then Luke spoke up. "Victoria... would you mind looking over at the statue and telling me what you see? I'm afraid my sonar doesn't have the range to pick up the whole statue so I'll need you and Raina to be my eyes today." Raina snickered.
"Well Luke, she's a giant green woman with a torch. Make her mad and we're in trouble!" she laughed. "Think of she-hulk" she teased. "and green is like... well the colour could be adjacent to being sick. I wonder who's bright idea that was? If I made her she'd be polka-dotted or something."
She wanted to get down to business it was true. But she wasn't going to push Victoria. She was anxious to talk about her powers but in such a public place Victoria may not be willing. Then it dawned on her, she was perfectly comfortable talking about her own powers. Maybe that would get the ball rolling.
She waited until Victoria had answered Luke's question and then added almost absentmindedly from the previous statement, "I guess I'm one to talk since my mutation makes me a little green at times as well." she was still looking up at the statue.
"And by the way, how is the new apartment working out? Has Ms. Williamson been making sure you have everything you need?"
"Yes she is. She has been very kind too." It had been a surprise to Victoria, stumbling across so many nice people. "I went to her apartment for dinner last weekend. The apartment is good. It is nice to have somewhere I can feel at home."
Victoria didn't mention the lonely evenings. It wasn't something she had bargained on. The boarding house at least had the possibility of there being other people in the common room whereas she was always on her own in the apartment. Victoria had spend her whole life in the company of two other people and being on her own was strange. She knew she needed to find some interests outside the apartment and work. She also knew it was early days.
Victoria looked up at the statue and laughed gaily at Raina's description. It was not the way she would have put it but then she was struggling to come up with something, her view of it having been tainted by Raina's expression.
"She doesn't look very happy. You would have thought that something that was supposed to be in celebration of freedom would have had a more cheerful expression."
Victoria giggled.
"Perhaps it is the strain of holding up the torch for all this time and the tickling of all the little ants that climb up her... I mean people. But they look like ants, or at least I imagine they would if we could see them." Victoria had done a little bit of research and so knew that the torch was a viewing platform. That knowledge gave her an idea of how large or rather how small people would be compared to the statue.
"I guess I'm one to talk since my mutation makes me a little green at times as well."
"Green?" Victoria queried, and struck by the image of Raina turning into the Incredible Hulk, or a female version thereof she giggled again but suddenly put her hand over her mouth and flushed bright red, fearing her outburst might have offended Raina. "I'm sorry."

"I'd venture a guess they wanted her to look noble... or regal." Luke offered with a slight smile on his face. Even though he had never seen the real Statue, he had seen some of the small models that you could purchase and if his studies in college had been accurate, then along with freedom they had wanted to portray her as being more than just a peasant. She was a lady that stood above everything as a symbol of what every person, human and mutant like, desired. Liberty and freedom were her garments, and she wore them proudly.
"I guess I'm one to talk since my mutation makes me a little green at times as well."
"Green?" Victoria asked, with a slight giggle her voice before apparently some other worry or thought struck her. "I'm sorry."
The door had been opened and it was time to sit back and just watch Raina work. Remaining silent, Luke just listened as the two ladies continued their conversation. The was the reason he had wanted Victoria to meet Raina and maybe through Raina talking about her own mutation it would help Victoria to open up about hers. Changing position slightly to be a little more comfortable in his seat, Luke just focused on enjoying the day while the teacher spoke to the prospective student.

"I'd venture a guess they wanted her to look noble... or regal." Explained Luke.
"Well it's really cool they made her a woman! Could you imagin if it was a man? He'd probably look so menacing. But Lady Liberty is like the giant symbol of the power of a woman which is so cool because back then you'd think they'd realize what kinda powerful message that could send to women in a time when they were considered less than equal."
Raina was a complete femanist. She wasn't a hit you over the head with it, or all men are evil kind of femanist. But she earnestly appreciated the freedoms the women of the world had fought for her to live comfortable, and seeing the statue stirred those feleings up a bit.
To her green comment Victoria giggled, blushed, and apologized. Which made Raina laugh borderline obnoxously which in turn made her face very red. "Opps." she laughed. "No worries." she added. "I get pretty smelly too!" she laughed again.
"See..." she started explaining. "About a year ago... I guess you must have some knowledge of the camps..." her face went grim for a moment remembering the memory and she was glad the jacket covered her neck so Victoria wouldn't see the red ring around it from the camp collars. "My secondary mutation presented itself. Yup. Some of us special people end up having a stronger power inside that triggers by extreme stress but still is atributed to whatever observable power we have." she thought carefully how to explaint he next part without sounding like a textbook. "Anyway... my secondary mutation showed itself back in the camps and now whenever I get wet I get a little... fishy." she smiled playfully. The tense mood having lifted from remembering the past. "and a little green." she laughed. "it can take over my life sometimes... but I try not to focus on it too much. I'm getting much better at controlling it." she added. "but my main power is my ability to manipulate ice... with my voice! I've got that one down to a science!"
"But Lady Liberty is like the giant symbol of the power of a woman which is so cool because back then you'd think they'd realize what kinda powerful message that could send to women in a time when they were considered less than equal."
"I hadn't really thought about it." Victoria admitted sheepishly, "But I guess you are right."
"About a year ago... I guess you must have some knowledge of the camps..."
Victoria shook her head in negation, not knowing it was one of the things her parents, for what they believed to be good though unspecified reasons, had censored. She could see that it distressed Raina
....now whenever I get wet I get a little... fishy."
"That sounds like it good be fun, if you have somewhere nice to swim. And being able to turn water into ice could be useful too." She was making an assumption about what Raina meant.
Victoria sighed and looked embarrassed again, "All I do is go to pieces. Literally. My parents took a picture of and then when I reassemble I am naked." She wrinkled her nose. "It's not even useful, and it certainly isn't fun. Just embarrassing."
She didn't intend it to sound whiny but as she finished her sentence Victoria realised it had and her embarrassment deepened, showing up bright red on her face and extending to her neck.
