The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"One cheddar grilled cheese and one combo late coming right up." Luke called back in his best imitation of a short order cook. He had gotten lost on exactly what was going on with the conversation but that wasn't really a big deal. The kitchen... cooking... this was his element. He might not be able to give advice to teenage girls or help them through trying times, but he could at least cook a hot meal that would temporarily distract everyone from the situation.
The scent of the meat, tomatoes, and vegetables in the minestrone soup was beginning to fill the air and Luke could feel his stomach starting to rumble. Once he finished cooking up the last two grilled cheese sandwiches it would be lunch time. Turning away from the pan he made his way over to the fridge and opened it up, searching quickly for one last ingredient.
"Any parmesan for the soup?" He murmured to himself as his hand slowly trailed across the different containers, "Ah... here... grated parmesan. Perfect."

"Sounds perfect." said Raina with a grin. She was all too eager to stand up and help Luke with the food. Sitting with Victoria was starting to get very intense. Raina liked to be a sincere person... but she could only be a sincerely nice person for so long! Something about the tone in Victoria's voice, the look in her eyes... Raina didn't feel welcome and this was her boyfriend's home. But she was determined to keep things light and with that cheeky smile slapped on her face she headed into the kitchen.
She debated leaning over and giving Luke a peck but decided against being petty. Victoria must know she was Luke's girlfriend by now. There was no reason to feel threatened. Aftrall, she was the one going to Paris with him. "I'll get that." she said picking up some of the plates of sandwhiches. "You get the soup incase I spill." she headed over and placed them on a coffee table which she pulled closer. Then after placing the plates down she spun around and headed back for spoons and napkins.
The food smelled mouth watering and Raina was only destracted a moment when she looked down and saw how dirty her feet were. Thankfully they weren't dirty enough to track anything all over the place. But they were dirty enough that she was going to have to get crazy with the rubbing alcohol when she got home.
"We've got a new employee at the aquarium." said Raina making light conversation with Luke as she opened the fridge to look for drink ideas. "Leila, she's one of the students been hanging around the mansion. She's fitting right in." she reached in and pulled out a few selection with one arm and then spun around to grab three glasses with the other. She wouldn't dare pour them. She'd let everyone choose what they wanted and pour it themselves. Even a fruit juice could change Raina if she wasn't careful. "I've got another young girl Arielle from the mansion, she's interested in coming to check things out too. I've arranged a meeting for her and Dr. Gray when we get back. " she turned again and headed back to the coffee table and finished placing things. "There. It smells good babe. I'm excited." Raina loved to eat. With her mutation she burned a lot of calories so she always felt hungry.
Victoria would have been mortified at the effect her tone and her comment had had on Raina but she was blissfully unaware, if blissfull could be in any way used in relation to her current state. She hadn't even realised she hadn't responded to Raina's suggestion that she tour the mansion.
She was beginning to feel embarrassed at the effort the Luke and Raina were going to on her behalf, particularly as she really didn't feel that bad, physically. If Victoria had attempted to stand it would have become apparent that she wasn't yet up to going further than the bedroom unassisted. Reclining on the couch it was easy to believe that she was well enough to go home.
Victoria wasn't sure if Raina was talking to her or Luke until she heard the endearment. This time she managed to keep her reaction off her face.
"He was never interested in you, silly girl." She admonished herself. "Get over it!"
The mention of the mansion reminded her that she hadn't responded to Raina but she didn't trust herself to speak; instead she made a mental note to bring it up later though she didn't have much faith in herself that she would remember.
Victoria pulled a tissue out of the box and wiped the tears off her face and then curled up into as small as ball as she could, which, with her stature and build was quite small, attempting to avoid having any attention focused on her for as long as possible. It was unfortunate that her expression appeared to be a little sullen though it was perhaps a fair representation of how she felt.

"You're always trying to help people find a place to fit in." Luke replied with a smile to Raina's comment about the new employees. That just fit with what he knew about his girlfriend... she didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable anywhere and so she would try her best to help people find a good place for them to live, train, or even work.
"Has the mansion given you the title of Chief Morale Officer yet?" The blind man joked as he grabbed the pot of soup, three bowls, the containers of Parmesan cheese, and a pot holder before following Raina out to the living room. In easy movements Luke placed the pot holder on the table and then set the pot of soup directly on top of it.
"There. It smells good babe. I'm excited." Raina said in a tone of voice that told Luke, without even looking, that she must have a big smile on her face.
"It does smell good. Just the thing after a wild day." Luke replied as he took a seat and began to ladle the soup out into the bowls, "Do you think you can eat a full bowl Victoria or do you just want half a bowl for now?"
Sometimes Luke's apparent blindness was both a problem and a help all at the same time... unless he were focusing on a person's face he normally would miss facial expressions. He had learned to read emotion in people's body language but with Victoria completely wrapped up in an extra-large bath robe, there was nothing for him to read. He might be coming across as insensitive when really he was just blind.

While Luke was helping Victoria decide on how much she should eat Raina served herself. The smell of the food made her feel a little faint since it had been since this morning that she ate and she'd burned so much energy. "We'll have to try that again you know." she said with a grin. "I'll be damned if I dont get up that damned statue." she waved her spoon in the air. "Maybe I'll find someone with wings to fly me up." she joked, but only half joked.
Without warning she turned to Victoria and felt her head. "Yay. No fever. Good sign. " Raina was feeling better about things by the minute. Her little exchanges with Luke reminded her of her place and as pretty and mostly naked as Victoria was... she wasn't going to change that. "You should start with a little and see how your stomach handles it." she suggested while eating her own soup. "If it can you'll love this." she grinned. "Luke, you're a great cook. You can take something as boring as soup and make it great!"
It was difficult not to be jealous of Raina as she and Luke exchanged comments. Fortunately the little green-eyed monster seemed as tired as the rest of Victoria. Lassitude won out over everything else until Luke arrived with the food. The stronger smell as it came closer caused Victoria's stomach to rumble audibly in anticipation.
"Do you think you can eat a full bowl Victoria or do you just want half a bowl for now?"
Victoria was hungry, like Raina a side effect of her mutation but she was also hungry from the cold. Victoria's first reaction was to ask for a full bowl but when she moved her hands out from under the blanket her arms felt weak and funny and she was concerned that she would spill it if the liquid was too near the edge of the bowl.
Before she could respond, Raina had tested her forehead for temperature and then said, "You should start with a little and see how your stomach handles it."
If her hands weren't so shaky, Victoria might have been petty and asked for a full bowl but common sense won out.
"Just half for now, please, Luke. " Victoria replied softly, her voice little more than a whisper.

"One half bowl coming right up." Luke replied with a grin as he ladled the soup into a bowl and then sprinkled a generous portion of grated parmesan cheese over the top. "Here," He said as he offered the bowl to Victoria, "just let me know if you want any more."
Taking his own sandwich plate and bowl of soup Luke moved over to one of the recliners and relaxed back against the cushions. Lifting the soup to his lips the blind man savored the flavor for a brief moment before he realized how hungry he actually was. Deciding to forgo the normal enjoyment of food, he dug in with gusto, taking a bite or two of sandwich and then going back for one or two spoonfulls of soup.
"Are you enjoying your new job Victoria?" Luke asked conversationally a few moments later after he had watched the young woman eat at least a couple of spoonfulls, "Is everyone treating you OK?"
"Thank you." Victoria smiled at Luke as she carefully took the bowl from him. She thought about juggling the soup and the grilled cheese but decided that would be tempting fate a little too strongly. Soup first then grilled cheese. If she still felt hungry then some more soup.
"This is nice." Victoria complemented Luke with genuine enthusiasm. "I might have to steal the recipe from you."
Victoria could cook, though it tended to be fairly simple, having been brought up in an environment where there had been little opportunity for fancy cooking. Fancy cooking tended to require fancy ingredients and they had never had the money for those. They had had herbs, Victoria's mother maintaining a small herb garden along with the vegetable garden but that was the extent of it. Victoria planned to cook more interesting food but she hadn't got herself properly settled yet.
"Are you enjoying your new job Victoria? Is everyone treating you OK?"
"It is going very well." Victoria replied truthfully between mouthfuls of soup. "Everyone has been very kind and helpful. I'm finding it more interesting that I thought I would."
Victoria finished her soup and started on the grilled cheese, sampling each of the cheeses before deciding which order to eat them in. The Swiss cheese was slightly odd on her palate to start with but she decided she liked that one best and so left it until last. With the grilled cheese gone she leaned back, trying to decide whether she needed more soup or not.

"I'm glad it's working out for you." Luke replied after finishing off the last of his sandwich, "Now that you've got a good place to stay and a steady job, maybe you can see about considering Raina's offer. I've been to the mansion several times and they have the facilities to really work on training you with your ability."
Even though Luke had not used the facilities a whole lot himself, he had helped train Fausto as well as working in the Danger Room along with the rest of the X-Men and X-men Trainees. If he could just convince Victoria to go try it out then he knew that she would do much better and hopefully gain more confidence from it.
"You don't have to decide now after all but if you're not sure about things, you could always go over there for a tour. Just so you can see the set up and decide if it's right for you."
Glancing over at Raina, Luke raised an eyebrow questioningly. He didn't think she'd have a problem with the offer but it had suddenly struck him that since he didn't live at the mansion and had no real position at the mansion, maybe he shouldn't be making offers like that.

The conversation ping-ponged back and forth between Luke and Victoria and not feeling she had much left to input Raina sat quietly sipping her soup and eating her sandwhich politely. She was glad Victoria was settling into her new job but a big part of her wished she didn't work around Luke. Luke wasn't at the office much but once in a while was enough if Victoria was there.
She mentally slapped herself in the face. What was she thinking? How could Victoria keep bringing out all this jealousy in her when she was doing nothing but trying to recover from hypothermia? She shook her head and just in time Luke asked her about the mansion.
"I think we could set something up in two weeks." she said "if it makes you more comfortable to have more familiar faces around I'm sure Luke could schedule some time if it's only for a tour?" She had to beat this jealousy thing out of herself and the only way to do it would be to see them together more. "Nothing too streneous." she added. "Just show her the facilities"
Victoria was initially a little surprised at Luke's request of Raina, being sure that Raina had already made the offer. On reflection she wondered if it had been Luke's way of reminding Raina.
"Two weeks sounds like a good idea." Victoria agreed. It was far enough away that she didn't have to worry about it immediately. It would also give her another couple of weeks to settle in to both work and her apartment.
It was hard to concentrate. The food on top of a stressful day and the hypothermia was making her sleepy. Victoria felt the plate slipping out of her fingers and grabbed at it, managing to arrest the slide before it moved to far. It would have been easy just to lean back and close her eyes but Victoria managed to summon the energy to put the plate on the coffee table.
Then she did allow herself to lean back in the couch and close her eyes. Victoria wasn't quite asleep. It was unlikely to be long before she was.

Arrangements were made for Victoria to come see the school in aproximately two weeks and Luke was quite satisfied with that. His whole purpose for introducing Raina to Victoria had been so that Victoria could get the help she needed and now it looked like he just might have been successful with his mission.
It was obvious, even to a blind man, that Victoria was tired. She almost dropped her plate but managed to get it back on the coffee table before leaning back against the couch and allowing her eyes to close.
"Raina... would you mind coming and helping me with the dishes?" Luke asked a few moments later after he had finished the last of his own soup. Rising to his feet he carefuly picked up the platest, trying to keep the noise level down so that he wouldn't disturb the young woman from the rest that she so obviously needed.
Once they were in the kitchen and the sink water was running to help cover the noise of their talking, Luke asked something that he had begun to wonder. "Raina... you gonna be OK with her staying here with me?"

Even though she was drying the dishes Raina doned rubber gloves to be safe after making sure Victoria was covered up. She was quiet at first when Luke asked his question. She had to think about her answer. The truth was she wasn't sure... but she felt a heck of a lot better after he asked her how she'd feel. At least he understood it was a bit akward for her. That in her mind was enough to feel validated. "Of course." she answered. "I really don't think she should go anywhere. I've been in her position before and she's not out of the woods yet. She needs to be left where she is until she regains her strength... and she shouldn't be alone. You're the best at taking care of people- you do an awfully good job at taking care of me."
She leaned her head against his arm as she dried the dishes. Soon they were all dried and put away. "I think Im going to have to borrow those ugly old crocs of yours." she laughed. "I still don't have any shoes and I really need to get going." after the dishes Raina had slinked around quietly getting her things organized. Soon she was standing in the door wearing the crocs that were way too big for her but would have to do. "I'll call after my shift tomorrow, on my lunch break if I can." she said leaning up to Luke and giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Keep me posted. Call my cell if you need any help. Thanks for the food"
with that she adjusted all her belongings and made her way to the elevator. A cab was waiting outside down below to take her back to the mansion and Raina just wanted to get clean and get in bed.
((OOC - Sorry for the short post but there doesn't seem to be much to say when one is asleep - Victoria falling asleep doesn't help either ))
Victoria was vaguely aware of Raina leaving the room to help with the dishes but that was the last thing that she was aware of as sleep overcame her. She knew she needed it but it wasn't what she wanted. Victoria was in Luke's apartment and she felt that sleeping was a waste of the opportunity.
The need, ultimately, was stronger than the desire.
Sleep won.
By the time Raina made her way out of the apartment Victoria was deeply asleep. It was too soon to tell if she had caught a fever from the exposure but the early signs were promising.

"You're welcome to eat with my anytime Raina... you know that." Luke said with a comfortable smile as his girlfriend prepared to leave, "I'll be looking forward to your call."
A few moments later Luke was left alone in his apartment with Victoria apparently sleeping on the couch. Sweeping over her with his sonar he saw that she was obviously down for the count so he made his way over to the closet and pulled out one of the spare blankets he had. Moving back into the living room Luke carefully draped it over the young woman so that she would stay warm. Moving off into his bedroom, Luke picked up one of his books and brought it back into the living room. After taking a seat in one of the recliners, he stretched out and opened the book to a random page. Soon, he was lost in the story as his fingers slowly moved over the braille letters.
