The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

For a little while Victoria slept but, as is so often the case, a call of nature caused her to stir and wake. There was another factor too; perhaps the second blanket or perhaps the first indication of fever, either way, Victoria felt too warm. Groggy and a little confused as to her whereabouts, Victoria pushed the blankets off herself and clumsily got to her feet. She felt a little lightheaded and had to hold on to the arm of the sofa for a moment.
Having acquired a little more balance, Victoria wandered off in search of the bathroom. Still confused Victoria found a door and opened it. She couldn't find the light switch and it took her a few more moments to work out that she was in a closet.
Victoria backed out and turned to see Luke sitting in the chair.
"Luke. Ummm. " Victoria looked embarrased, "I seem to have lost the bathroom."

Even though to anyone watching it would have seemed that Luke was so wrapped up in his book that he didn't notice Victoria, they would have been sorely mistaken. Ever since she had begun to stir his sonar had been monitoring her movements, keeping a close eye on her until she began to move around as though she were looking for something. After walking over and opening the closet door where Luke stored more blankets Victoria finally turned back around to him.
"Luke. Ummm. I seem to have lost the bathroom." Victoria said with obvious embaressment. That made more sense... for a few moments Luke had thought she needed yet another blanket to stay warm but now it was apparent that there were other needs that had interupted her rest.
"Not a problem." Luke replied with a smile as he lifted his head from his book, directing his cloudy gaze towards the young woman, "It's right there... just a little further to the left." He replied as he pointed to the correct door, "When you come out do you want some water or maybe some more hot tea?"
Victoria was his responsibility, for at least a little while, and he was going to do his best to make sure that she was taken care of. There was no way he could let a nice young woman like this get hurt or sick. That just wasn't allowable.
"When you come out do you want some water or maybe some more hot tea?"
The question surprised Victoria though she knew Luke well enough by now that it should not have. Since she had first know him he had proved time and again to be caring and thoughtful.
Water was easier, but the thought of tea was very tempting. The only trouble was she was still feeling hot despite having freed herself of the blankets. It was too tempting.
"Tea would be nice, thank you, Luke." Victoria wanted to smile, she tried to smile but she just didn't have the energy.
Victoria drifted into the bathroom. She was feeling hotter than ever and dropped the robe on the floor. If she had been thinking clearly of course she would not have.
Victrola dried her hands and had opened the door before she realised that she had forgotten to put the robe back on. With a startled, half strangled squawk Victoria stepped back into the bathroom and shut the door somewhat harder than she intended and it slammed with a bang. Fortunately she saw it coming and although she couldn't stop it happening at least it didn't cause her to go to pieces.
Victoria wished she didn't have to put the robe back on, she was feeling much too hot for the thick robe. Even in her current state she was too sensible to seriously consider leaving the bathroom unclothed. She wouldn't do that to Luke or to Raina or, given the potential consequences, to herself. Victoria quickly put the robe back on, fumbling with the ties, hoping Luke wouldn't turn up to check on her beforee she was done.

As soon as Victoria succesfully navigated to the bathroom, Luke stood up and walked into the kitchen to set the kettle on to boil for the tea. As he stood there, quietly humming he heard the bathroom door begin to swing back open.
"Do you any preference on flav..." Luke began before a rather short cry rang out. Automatically his sonar flared out, searching to see what the problem was. It extended rapidly arriving just in time for the door to be slammed shut.
"Victoria?" Luke called out with obvious concern as he walked away from the stove and over to the bathroom, "Are you OK?" He finished a little more quietly as he walked up to the door and gently knocked on it, "Is anything wrong?"
Victoria was fumbling with the last tie when she heard Luke's knock on the door. She tied it and then opened the door.
"Sorry, Luke, I pushed it shut a bit hard." Victoria's face was flushed and her voice was tinged with embarrassment, though the latter with not as much as if she had wandered out without the robe. Victoria wasn't going to admit what she had nearly done and she had to hope that Luke would accept the explanation as it stood, even though the timing of the slamming of the door had been wrong for it to have been when she had entered the bathroom.
"A green tea, if you have one, please." Victoria replied to his earlier question partially in an attempt to distract him. She lent against the door frame, feeling faint and glad she had something to prop herself up with. Victoria shivered, suddenly feeling very cold and achy.

For a moment Luke just watched Victoria, nodding his head slowly. He didn't completely accept her explanation but since she didnt' appear to be hurt or to have anything wrong with her he didnt' feel the need to press for details.
"Green tea it is then." He replied, his voice as cheerful as possible, "Why don't you lay back down on the couch. You need your rest after all."
Just as Luke began to turn away, Victoria seemed to slump against the door frame and a slight shake racked her body. Shivering? Did that mean she had a fever? Turning back around quickly, Luke's face became concerned. "Are you sure you're OK Victoria?" He asked quietly as lifted an arm so that he could gently press the back of his hand against her forehead to check for fever, "Want me to help you over to the couch?"
"No, thank you, I...." Victoria thought she was going to be okay to move from the door frame but having pushed herself upright and moved to leave the support of the door frame behind she suddenly felt weak and faint. Her knees didn't quite give way but there was a moment when she thought they might and the thought of taking a step was too much to expect of them.
"Actually, yes please." Victoria was on the verge of tears as she leaned against the door frame again and as again she shivered. It seemed unreasonable that less than a minute previously she had been so hot she nearly walked out of the bathroom in her birthday suit. She had though she was going to be okay and now she was feeling horrible and guilty for the amount of trouble she was putting Luke to. Victoria felt she had been nothing but trouble to him since they had met and he was too nice to be lumbered with someone as troublesome as herself.

She was starting to feel worse. Luke could tell. the shivers were becoming slightly more noticable and even Victoria was now admitting she might need help.
"Well, I'm glad you stayed here instead of trying to get home." Luke said quietly, offering Victoria a quick smile as he stepped over and slipped an arm around her waist to support her, "I'd much rather you be here."
Together the two made it back over to the couch where Luke once again tucked the blankets around the young woman. While she lay there he moved into the bathroom and grabbed up the still damp clothes that were inside. A few minutes later those clothes were running through the washing machine that was hidden behind a pair of bifold doors in the kitchen.
"Do you like honey or milk in your tea?" Luke asked as he fixed two mugs of the warm beverage. As soon as he knew how she liked it he headed back to the living room.
"Here we go." He said with a smile, "Maybe in a little while we can see about moving you to the guest bedroom. You might be more comfortable sleeping under the cover of the bed in there instead of here on the couch."
"I seem to be nothing but trouble." Victoria said sadly as Luke helped her to the couch and arranged the blankets around her.
"Neither, thanks, just tea and water." Victoria replied. She had never had milk in her tea. She had never even had the problem of it being put in accidentally, having only very rarely been in a situation where someone other than her parents had made tea for her.
Victoria felt a little better tucked up in the blankets but she was still shivery and achy. She snuggled in deeper and wished that she could feel Luke's arms around her. She sighed softly, knowing that it wasn't to be.
"A proper bed would be good." Victoria briefly wondered if she should reopen the discussion about going home but it was too much effort. She guessed too, that Luke's spare bed would be more comfortable than the one she had in her apartment. Victoria was saving up to replace the whole thing as soon as she could; she had hoped that she could get by with just a mattress but the frame was in bad shape and she didn't like the old style of bed frame with it's wire mesh. However firm the mattress was they still sagged in the middle, even with her tiny weight.
"After the tea." She added as she took the cup. "I'm sorry I am so much trouble."

"It's no trouble Victoria. I like having company." Luke said again with a slight smile at the young woman as she took the tea from him. Moving to sit at the other end of the couch, where the young woman's small frame wouldn't reach even when stretched out, Luke took a seat and just relaxed for a few moments.
"I guess I should feel a little left out." He teased just a little, trying to cheer up the young woman beside him, "You and Raina both got to go for a brisk, invigorating swim while all I did was watch. I think that's pretty rotten. Next time you two ladies conspire to go swimming at least let me know so I can bring some swim trunks or something."
It had been a bad situation that was upsetting for both Raina and Victoria, but if he could get the younger woman to see the humor in it then it might just cheer her up.
Victoria continued to sip her tea. The hot liquid helped with the shivers. Luke's presence at the other end of the couch, close yet out of reach in more ways than one was still a comfort. It was a little painful but still better than being alone.
She finished her tea and put the mug down on the coffee table before stretching out on the couch. Victoria had hoped that her feet might just reach Luke but she was too short. With a little sigh she snuggled deeper into the blankets and pretended that the enclosing fabric was Luke holding her tight.
"I guess I should feel a little left out. .....Next time you two ladies conspire to go swimming at least let me know so I can bring some swim trunks or something."
Victoria giggled and then said, "We didn't get to wear swimming costumes so I don't see why you should get to wear one."
She blushed, embarrassed by her boldness and hoped that Luke wouldn't notice.

Luke had to laugh at Victoria's quick repartee. Even though she wasn't feeling that well due to the possible fever that was trying to gain a foothold, her wit had obviously not been damaged.
"How silly of me." Luke replied, the laughter in his voice quite obvious, "Next time you two ladies go skinny dipping I'll make sure to jump right in."
It was kind of nice to e able to tease Victoria like this. Obviously skinny dipping with both ladies would never happen, although it would be possible with just Luke & Raina, however if it could get a laugh or giggle out of Victoria then it was well worth it.
The young woman had finished her tea and as she stretched out on the couch she seemed to be getting more comfortable. In one way this situation reminded him at least a little bit of the first time that Raina had come to his house. She had been in a bad situation with wet clothes for a while and the two of them had simply enjoyed talking back and forth. Obviously they were well past that point now but Luke had to smile to himself wondering what other people would say if they knew that multiple women had come to his house and been forced to change out of wet clothes.
"The tabloids would have a field day with that." He thought to himself.
Victoria was relieved that Luke didn't seemed to think that she had been too bold. She tried to avoid the mental picture of Luke jumping into the water with no clothes on though never having seen a naked man and having only the clinical diagram from school biology, she didn't have a lot to base that image on. It was probably just as well.
"I will try and give you more warning." Victoria replied. It was difficult to know whether she was being serious and truth was that Victoria was not sure herself.
Victoria felt more relaxed. Her body temperature seemed to have evened out again and with a bit of luck it would remain that way. Her eyes drooped and then suddenly she was asleep.

Luke sat quietly, not speaking against as he listened to Victoria began to drift off to sleep. He had known she was really tired and as her breathing began to deepen he knew that she was finally drifting off. just to make sure he didn't disturb her, Luke remained completely still for a good half hour after she had finally fallen asleep. Finally, after the time had passed, the blind man slowly climbed to his feet and walked over to the recliner. He wanted to stay nearby in case she needed something so sleeping on the recliner would be the best option. Closing his eyes Luke drifted off to sleep within a few minutes.
***
The next morning Luke woke up at his usual early time. After checking to make sure that Victoria was still asleep he headed into the master bath to see about getting a shower. The young woman hadn't had any trouble the night before so he thought that he could be away for at least a few minutes right now. The warm water felt so good and it helped to both wake him up and invigorate him for the day. Once the shower was over it was time for a quick shave and then out to the bedroom to get dressed.
Aproximately fifteen minutes after the shower had begun, Luke walked out of the bedroom, redressed in white socks, dark blue denim jeans, a gray t-shirt, and a burgundy sweat shirt pulled on over it. "Now to see about breakfast." Luke murmured to himself, not really paying attention if Victoria had woken up yet or not, "I wonder what young ladies like to have for their morning meal..."
Victoria slept well, there being no ongoing sign of a fever, suggesting that the temperature instability had been more to do with her body trying to get itself organised after her flirtation with hypothermia than with any infection.
She didn't hear Luke get up from the couch and settle in the recliner. Neither did she hear him get up to have a shower. The soft noise of the water running in the shower though did cause her to stir, not directly but because it filtered into her subconscious and reminded her body that a trip to the bathroom would be in order. The pressure on her bladder caused her to wake but the sound of running water quickly told her that the bathroom was occupied. Fortunately the need was not yet urgent.
She missed Luke's exit from the bathroom and it wasn't until he returned to the lounge from the bedroom that she realised he had finished with the bathroom. She was now fully awake and heard his musing.
"I wonder what young ladies like to have for their morning meal..."
Victoria was feeling better and she was feeling comfortable in Luke's presence, despite the paucity of her clothing. Her sense of humour asserted itself and she could not resist the opening Luke had given her.
"Young ladies?" She asked, peeking out of her blankets with a mischievous grin on her face as she peered around as though looking for something. "How many more women do you have secreted about your apartment?"
