The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

For a moment, Luke's mind was frozen. He hadn't realized that Victoria was awake and so he had never expected such a quick witted response. "Uh... um..." He stuttered before his mind finally caught up with the situation.
"Well... I always seem to be rescueing damsels in distress." Luke finally said, a sly grin touching his lips as he turned his head in Victoria's direction, "So I guess you'll have to sort through all the clothes in the dryer in order to find yours. Don't judge me on what you see there." He finished with a wink before finishing his walk into the kitchen.
"So what sounds good? Oatmeal? Cereal? Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, and Biscuits?" He asked as he began to move through the kitchen, checking his stock on the various breakfast items.
Victoria smiled at Luke's reaction, pleased that her assessment of his sense of humour had been correct. She was finding reading people difficult, having not had much experience but she was becoming comfortable with Luke and Victoria felt she could push the boundaries a little.
"I might just have to do that in a moment. Perhaps I will find something I like better." Victoria said mischievously.
"So what sounds good? Oatmeal? Cereal? Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, and Biscuits?"
"Bacon and scrambled eggs sounds nice." Victoria replied feeling a mixture of cheekiness and nervousness. Luke had been so kind already and she didn't want to push her luck. She did like bacon and eggs and she was feeling very hungry.

"One think you've obviously not had a chance to learn about me is that I like to cook." Luke called back to Victoria cheerfully as he set about pulling out the ingredients to make the meal that the young woman had requested, "I guess you could say it's one of my hobbies."
Sine they were in at least a little bit of a hurry to eat Luke decided somewhat regretfully to not make the biscuits from scratch. Instead he pulled out a can of Pillsbury biscuits which were he considered one of the best around. Once those were in the oven he sliced bacon and within minutes it was sizzling in a pan.
"The dryer is in here whenever you feel like checking on your clothes." Luke called over the sound of food cooking as he nodded towards the closet where his washer and dryer were hidden away, "Do you prefer honey or strawberry jam on your biscuits?"
"In that case I will have a full English Breakfast, please." Victoria replied cheekily, but hastily added, "Just joking."
She had to think about the choice, "Strawberry jam, please." Victoria decided after a minute or two.
While Luke continued to cook, Victoria went to the dryer and retrieved the clothing from it, folding up anything that wasn't hers and placing it carefully in a pile on the arm of the couch. With her small bundle of clothes in her arms, Victoria made her way to the bathroom to change. Slipping out of the robe Victoria looked at herself critically in the mirror. It wasn't a bad body, she had to admit, but she was too short and her breasts were too small and her voice too high. Her hair was a mess but there was little she could do about that. It would have to wait until she got back to her apartment, had a shower and washed her hair.
She could see why Luke preferred Raina.
"Where am I going to find someone like Luke?" She wondered.
Victoria put her clothes on and made her way back into the lounge. Luke was still busy in the kitchen.
"Is there anything I can do to help, Luke?" she asked.

As Victoria came into the kitchen and gathered her clothes before heading off to presumably get dressed, Luke allowed himself to temporarily forget everything that had happened the day before. Here was a chance to throw himself into the hobby he enjoyed so much. It was just like he had said to Rupert back at the pie eating contest, cooking was an art form because at the end you had something that most anyone could appreciate.
"Is there anything I can do to help, Luke?" Victoria's voice broke through his inward reflection just as he was finishing up the scrambled eggs and preparing to pull the biscuits out of the oven.
"Um... yes actually." Luke replied as his mind suddenly clicked on something. "If you would grab the cart of orange juice, pitcher of water, butter, and strawberry jam out of the fridge and put them on that table over there," he said as he nodded towards the little break nook table with two chairs next to it, "that'll really help things move along. Feel free to make more than one trip between the fridge and table though. No need to try and grab everything."
After giving Victoria a quick smile, Luke went back to his work. Within just a few minutes the biscuits were off of their baking sheet and placed in a large serving bowl while the eggs and bacon were set on opposite side of a serving platter. After walking over to the table and setting both serving vessels down, Luke headed back to the cabinet to retrieve two plates, two forks, two knives, and a bear shaped bottle of honey.
"So, I'm going to guess that you must be feeling better this morning." Luke said with a smile as he waved Victoria to the other seat at the now loaded table, "I think we all better leave the swimming until summer, huh."
Victoria had been about to take it all in one go but Luke was right and she moved the items to the table in three trips. It was just as well as a couple of the items were a little more awkward than she had at first thought.
"Yes I am feeling better, thank you." Victoria replied, smiling at Luke. It would be so easy to fall into the trap of thinking there was something more between them and Victoria had to work hard to remind herself. It was so hard to keep from falling in love with Luke.
"The swimming wasn't exactly planned." She said, rolling her eyes in mock exasperation.
Victoria sat down at the table. "Breakfast with an attractive and caring man. What more could a girl ask for?" She thought and then answered her own question, "The night before, not just the morning after." Victoria had to turn her head away to hide the flush that rose to her cheeks and then admonished herself; it wasn't as if the colour of her cheeks was going to give her away to Luke, but her body language would. She wasn't as shocked as she thought she should have been at the direction her thoughts were taking her, despite her blush.
"Got anything exciting planned for today, Luke?" She asked, in an effort to distract herself and Luke.

Was Victoria embarassed about something? Her body language was suggesting it but there was no way Luke could look for any type of blushing but if the expression on her face was indication she was slightly embarassed.
"But embarassed by what?" Luke wondered to himself as he broke open a biscuits and buttered it before adding honey to make a tasty bit of breakfast, "Did I say or do something?"
"Nothing exciting that I can think of." Luke replied with a smile before serving himself some scrambled eggs and bacon, "I had focused so much on my plans for yesterday with you and Raina getting a chance to meet that I didn't even think about today. What about you? Got a hot date to rush off to?"
With Victoria's shy personality it was very doubtful that the young woman had talked to any other men enough to get a date but it was still possible. What if she didn't have plans? Should he offer to spend more time with her? Raina had already been rather nervous about Victoria spending time around him so maybe that wouldn't be a good idea. "I never expected getting involved with someone to make life so complicated..."
Victoria didn't know if Luke had noticed or not; her interpretation of body language was not up to a normal standard, having had very few people in her life to study. It was slowly improving but it would be a while before she would be good enough to interpret the subtle signs that would have told her that Luke had indeed noticed. It was probably a kindness that she didn't know and could thus hope that it hadn't.
"I have three hot dates lined up." Victoria replied, smiling, "One with the grocery store, one with the washing machine and the third with the vacuum cleaner."
Victoria took a bite of her breakfast and when she had swallowed she continued.
"Make that four. I have a date with the shower as well." Victoria stoically kept her eyes on the food she was cutting in preparation for her next mouthful. Her thoughts had again started to wander in what she considered was an inappropriate direction and she didn't want to give it away a second time.
"So you can see I have an exciting and fun filled day ahead." Her tone was only lightly ironic, further lightened by the small smile on her face.
"I should leave you to your day once I have helped clear away and wash up." Breakfast was drawing to a close and she knew it would be unfair of her to impinge much further on Luke's time or good nature.

"Wel... if you really want to help with the dishes I guess I won't argue." Luke said with a slight smile, "I learned my lesson about trying to keep people from helping one time when Raina and a friend of hers stops by for breakfast. I didn't plan on letting them help but before I knew it they were sending me of to take out the trash while they washed up everything."
The food was just what Luke needed for the start of his day even though he didn't have anything particularly vigerous. He would have to see about maybe running to the grocery store real quick but other than that it would probably be a day of relaxing. Maybe curl up with a book or something like that.
"I'm glad you've got those hot dates lined up." Luke said, stressing the word 'dates' just a touch in order to tease the young woman before his voice picked up just a bit of a concerned tone, "But don't push yourself to hard. Make sure you have some time to rest and relax in there."
"You've seen the size of my apartment, vacuuming won't take long." Victoria didn't make much mess and vacuuming once a week was more of a habitual thing than something born of necessity.
Washing was more essential. Victoria hadn't had the opportunity, or the spare cash for that matter, to expand her wardrobe greatly. Shopping for clothes was to be the following weekend's activity, "I wonder if Tris might be free?" she thought.
"But yes, I intend to have a good relax somewhere in there." Now that she thought of it, a long soak in the bath would be nice.
Victoria got up and started to help clearing away and washing up. She wasn't bold enough to take the lead except for the things that she had taken out of the refrigerator; those she knew what to do with.

The meal was finished and clean up had begun. As Victoria took the carried the various items back to their proper places in the fridge, Luke grabbed the dirty plates and utensils and carried them over to place in the sink. "If you want to go ahead and wash those and put them in the dish drain," He said with a quick nod toward the plastic wire rack that sat right next to the sink, "I'll see about putting the leftovers in the fridge."
For a few moments Luke was quiet as he set about pulled out ziplock bags and tupperware containers for storage then he swived his head to 'look' at Victoria, a quizical expression on his face, "There's plenty of food left. Would you like to take some home with you?"
Victoria set about washing the dishes. The gloves were too large but they stayed on and didn't make her feel she was about to drop the plates.
Victoria was torn, not wanting to offend by saying no, but not wanting to be seen to be taking advantage by saying yes. It would mean that she could put off going to the grocery store until the next day.
"Yes, please, Luke, that would be nice." Victoria replied, hoping that it hadn't been too long and that Luke hadn't forgotten the question.
"All done." Victoria stated as she put the last item on the rack and wiped down the bench. "Anything else before I drain the sink?"

Luke remained quietly standing as he waited for Victoria to make up her mind. He hadn't really thought that it would be this big a decision over whether a person would want leftovers or not but with a young woman that had always let her parents make the decisions this probably was a big deal. Finally Victoria spoke up and Luke was once again able to take action.
"Go ahead and drain the sink." Luke said with a slight smile as he took down a few disposable containers and began to put several biscuits in one, a large pile of eggs in another, and several slices of bacon in the third, "I don't think there's anything else to wash."
Within a few minutes the kitchen was completely clean and Victoria's food was carefully packed for her to take with her. "If you're still feeling weak tomorrow go ahead and call into work." Luke ordered as he turned to face the young woman he had come to think of as a little sister, "Just tell them you have my permision. I don't want you having a relapse because you didn't fully recover before going back to work. After all, I was the one that asked you to go sight seeing with me which means you wouldn't have been in the water if it weren't for me."
"Don't be silly." She said, a giggle in her voice, "I thought it was my idea to go sightseeing and you didn't kick that soccer ball at me." She wasn't sure if that was a memory or if they had told her that was what had happened. Victoria was a bit muddled on that score.
"But I will call in if I don't feel well enough." Victoria was feeling okay at that moment. "I don't think it will be necessary, but thank you."
"Thank you." Victoria said took the package of food from Luke.
"Thank Raina for me." She added as she opened the door to leave Luke's apartment. She stopped, turned and reached up to give him a peck on the cheek, "Perhaps we should try again when you and Raina get back from Paris."
Victoria was a little surprised that she had managed to say that without breaking down, even though she had said it deliberately to drive home to herself that Luke wasn't available for her in the way she thought she wanted.
"Bye, Luke." she said and turned away in time to hide the tears that had sprung up. She kept walking toward the lift without looking back, not wanting to risk Luke detecting the tears.

Time seemed to fly by and all to quickly Victoria was heading for the door, carrying the containers of food in her arms. "When we get back from Paris we'll give you a call to try again." Luke replied with a smile, "Maybe we can get a couple of other friends and make it a full blown party."
Now that Luke knew about the mansion there were plenty of other people he could introduce the young woman to. CS, Streak, Ghost... now that might be a good choice. Ghost was a little bit quiet just like Victoria though she did have more confidence. Mentally Luke made note to see about getting the two of them together to chat and spend a little time together.
"Take care Victoria." Luke called after the young woman after she said goodbye, "I'll see you again soon!"
