The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The salty taste of blood oozed through Raina's teeth as the guard held her by the wrists and tossed her into the already overcrowded cell. She landed with a hard thud on her shoulder, wincing she knew it would cause he trouble later.
He screamed incoherently at her and recalled her antics in the Cafeteria with a few other mutants to the stationed guard on duty.
"Freak" she heard him say as her eyes adjusted to the dark room barely lit from the light seeping in under the steel door he had just slammed.
The guard wasn't very audiable from this end of the two way mirror but she knew he fell for it hook line and sinker. She was quiet. Quiet enough to hear her own heart beat and some of the others in the room. She waited for her eyes to adjust furthur. She had to be sure that Michael was the guard on duty. If he was hopefully he'd signal them by knocking on the mirror or something.
Who were the other faces in the cell? Where they there for the same reason as her or had they genuienly been thrown in for bad behaviour? It didn't matter now. They all wanted out and the whispers of an escape were growing to a figurative scream.
She waited until the guards footsteps faded into the distance. Even without a sign from Michael she could still figure out what she was up against.
"Who is here?" she said in a hoarse voice.
ooc: feel free to RP being thrown in, or already in. Michael, hope you don't mind me setting that up a bit!
Neena kept to her normal pace as she approached the Laundry Pool. Since Colyn had healed her, she was now deemed fit to go back to her original detail. It had been nearly a week since she’d spent more than an hour here, what with her broken arm and all. That meant she hadn’t seen much of Sara, except for in the barracks or the few times they’d crossed paths elsewhere. Like that lovely little conversation with Supervisor Rupert a few days back. Either way, the point was that, to all appearances, Neena had been having it easy, while Sara still had to deal with work as usual.
Which provided the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the guards’ prejudices.
As she neared the Pool, one bundle of dirties slung over her shoulder, and another bag of recyclables dragging behind, she bent beneath the load. She purposefully did not watch where she was going.
And bumped right into Sara. She lost her grip on the one bundle, and the other pulled her off-balance and onto the ground. Her glasses flipped off and away.
”Hey! Watch it!” she huffed, squinting irritably at Sara. Her guard escort, having grown tired of beating on mutants as of late, watched with a lazy air.
Ok so the last few weeks hadn’t been exactly what Sara would call, ‘peachy,’ With Neena’s broken arm Sara was left to do most of the laundry work by herself. Sara could sympathize with a bone being broken, but waiting for the stupid thing to heal, that wasn’t something she considered fun. Especially when one’s body heals so fast on it’s own, she often forgot that others had to wait months for what she found annoying to wait was an hour or less.
With Neena’s partnership before, they were barely keeping up with the loads. The last few weeks, Sara had fallen behind and things grew more and more frustrating every day as more and more guards demanded that she simply work harder. Here’s what she should do, just not work at all. If it wasn’t for the fact her body required sustenance, she could spend days in rest and alone, only fighting that fear of tiny spaces, that she had learned to cope with because of the camps. That really wasn’t a bad idea there.
Behind her, she could hear Neena coming, James stood at the side of the pool examining the individual shapes of his nails and he let out a short laugh when Neena walked into Sara.
The feline had been bent over the pool, scrubbing out the latest set of grass stains when the other mutant ran right into her pushing her knees against the edge of the pool till the points of her joints ached and her palms had to splash and press into the bottom to keep herself sitting on the edge.
”Hey! Watch it!”
Sara’s tail flicked irritated, back and forth slapping Neena’s legs with the soft fur as Sara caught her balance. “Excuse me? You watch it!” Sara turned as she saw Neena on the ground next to her. One bundle having fallen on her other side. Sara’s eyes moved past Neena to a stack of clean guard uniforms that had been balanced on Neena’s other side. The stack wavered, then collapsed into the mud, sand, and grungy water known as the laundry pool. “And look what you did!”
(Permission was given in PM to put on a show, If things go too far for you Neena tell me I'll change it.)
"Well you shouldn't have stacked 'em so high. Not my fault."
Sara's hand whipped up to catch the garment before it hit her face. Suppository, accidentally letting the tips of her claws go across the fabric. The tips sliced nice holes in the fabric as she swiped the thing aside and tossed it to the other end of the pool.
"That table has been there since the beginning of the camps and the stacks were started there BY YOU!" OK so now for the little show for the guards. Hope Neena's arm is really all the way healed. Sara didn't want to accidentally pull something wrong. Sara lunged at Neena and had her by the shoulder of her camp uniform, close to her neck, pulled her up, and shoved her back against the laundry mangle. In the quick move Sara had snatched up Neena's glasses with the other hand. Making it look like she needed it to push against the ground to speed up her pulling Neena up. "Perhaps if someone actually watched what they were doing back at the fire, you wouldn't be out of practice."
Neena took the shoving without flinching, and instead shoved back, aiming to push Sara toward the water.
"That table has been there since the beginning of the camps and the stacks were started there BY YOU! Perhaps if someone actually watched what they were doing back at the fire, you wouldn't be out of practice."
"Maybe if I didn't have to be so worried about watching your back, I could've watched my own a bit better!" She aimed a tackle at Sara's knees, to take both of them to the ground. It would be easier to fake a fight rolling around in the dirt, than if they had to exchange actual blows.
"And you're welcome for saving your tail, Furface!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The faux fight lasted less than ten minutes before the guards decided to break them up. Closer to five, actually, which testified to the guards' boredom. Even James seemed more fascinated with his profile in the compact mirror than with poking fun at them. They dumped the pair into the dark, close room with little fanfare.
Neena lay where she fell for a few moments to orient herself. The darkness was pure bliss to her strained eyes; she could see clearly as if it were day, a welcome change from the sunlight.
Finally she pushed herself to her feet and went to help Sara up.
"Sorry for the shoves," she apologized, and smiled. "Thanks for saving my glasses. I think I'm down to two pairs left."
She looked around and spotted Raina. "Hey there Raina. You okay?" Then she looked around, to see who else had ended up in the group confinement. A sly smile graced her face.
"You know, I'm beginning to think humans really are as dumb as they act."
Father and father the gaurds pulled Acer, even though he was unconcious and gave no ressientince, the gaurds still gave him a punch or a kick every few feet.
"You liltlle freak we'll show you what happens to bad asses here punk." the larger of the three escorting guards said too the young boy.
Soon the door to the dark crowed room opened, and what liltlle chatter exsited in the darkness fell silent imideatly, " Shut up in there!" one of the gaurds yelled as they tossed the kid's body into the room as if they were feeding a group of starved lions. Slamming the door behind them, the gaurds could be heard laughing as they walked away.
Now Acer lay helpless in the dark room, only felling the cold floor on his bruised face."Wait a sec," he said to himself" I can feel a floor, Where am I?" he questioned as he struggled to get up " what happened?" he continued. He managed to get to his feet and tried to look around, but he could'nt see anything right away, but slowy things took shape, he made out figures all around him, but he could'nt tell who. But then he saw a familar looking shape, and this shape had a collar around its throat, "Raina, are you ok?" he asked his friend?
Raina smiled at Neena and Sara "Hey girls, glad you could make it" her eyes were starting to adjust to the light. "I was just waiting for a signal to go ahead." she said in a hushed voice. She heard Acer get dumped in and when her eyes allowed her to see him she reached out and squeezed his hand. "Hey Acer, it's ok. I can explain everything soon. Just lay lo and relax a bit."
She was happy to have the two girls with her with whom she fought the raging fires. She felt like she'd fostered a sistership with them both being here. They were the two closest people she'd met.
She had a liking for the kid too... even if he had a knact for getting in trouble.
Out back by the laundry pool, Sara and Neena had ended up on the ground. She’d held her breath that the brainiacs wouldn’t pick up on the fact that Sara wasn’t getting hurt, so she wasn’t getting shocked, but their act seemed to be enough. Then again look who was watching them… guard flunkies.
"Maybe if I didn't have to be so worried about watching your back, I could've watched my own a bit better! And you're welcome for saving your tail, Furface!"
Ok point for Neena there.
………………………………………………
Sara and Neena had finally been broken up. She guessed that even James had to make himself look good and professional for the rest of the camps, though he certainly seemed to take his time in stepping in. Five minutes? Professional fighters can knock each other out in less than that time.
Sara accepted Neena’s help up, handing her the pair of glasses at the same time. The feline’s eyes quicly adjusted to the light and within a short couple of seconds, Sara could see as if the dark room was only the start of twilight.
"Sorry for the shoves. Thanks for saving my glasses. I think I'm down to two pairs left."
“Well I started the shoving.” She bent to dust her camp uniform free of the dirt from the laundry pool floor. “I figured you could use as many pairs of glasses just in case. Did I rip your collar?”
Sara scanned the rest of the small room spotting Acer, whom she had really only seen at the dining hall, and Raina.
"Hey girls, glad you could make it"
Sara nodded. “You too. Think anyone else will be on their way?”
Amp sat in the corner of the dark room, curled in as small of a ball as she could manage. She felt the vibrations and trembles that represented the presence of others. She couldn't see much in the dark, but her green eyes seemed to glow with a bit of their original brightness. She couldn't hear anything, but she watched every move like a cat. Or a snake.
“Well I started the shoving. I figured you could use as many pairs of glasses just in case. Did I rip your collar?”
"No bid deal. I'll sew it up later." Neena shruged. "Not like it's skin."
"Hey girls, glad you could make it."
“You too. Think anyone else will be on their way?”
As if in answer, another body got dumped in, one Raina knew. Neena had seen the boy around, but had never actually met him. She also saw the petite redhead in the corner, watching things carefully. Neena wished she knew sign language. Something to pursue once this mess ended.
Speaking of which.....
"Looks like things are coming to a head outside," she murmured very quietly. "The higher-ups seem to be getting nervous, but not smart."
With a grin, she reached down the top of her dress, and extracted a tiny capsule from her bandages, filled with the sedative. "Wonder how this stuff works on non-mutants?"
Then she glanced at Sara. "You still have that remote stashed?"
Riana's sudden departure and hasty instructions still livid in is mind, Nathan slowly walked toward the guard he had chosen for his target.
He was bent over with bags of clothes filled to the brim with dirty laundry. He had miraculasly managed to grap these when no one was looking. Since he was not supposed to be carrying laundry he figured that he should make this quick.
Since he was ladden with sacks it was too easy to appear as if the burden was encumbersome. With his head looking at the ground he deliberately walked into the guard hard enough to knock him off his feet. The guard lost his balance and had to use his hands to keep from falling on his face.
Ever the quick wit Nathan says with a mocking tone and grin, "I'm really sorry sir. Looks like you had a tumble with the ground but you came out on top alright." Nathan then proceeded to spit onto the guard's face but the projectile landed short of the mark.
Embarrassed completely, the guard let his rage get the best of him. Just as Nathan planned. The guard swiftly rose to his feet and began his retaliation. He called over some other guards and they promptly grapped Nathan and forced him to his knees. He than proceeded to utilize his baton so that Nathan would not forget this lesson he was administering. When he was done he said with an evil laugh, "Lets put him in group confinement to make sure he learns his lesson."
Nathan had chosen his target perfectly. He made sure the guard he picked was arrogant so that when he injured his pride the guard would over react and retaliate too harshly. The guard was also short, that in combination with his arrogance made the guard feel as if he had something to prove to the world. The guard's over reaction would result in group confinement or so Nathan had hoped at least.
Nathan was brought back to reality when he hit the hard cold floor of the dark cell. He heard the cell door behind him slam shut and lock into place.
He waited till the guards footsteps faded into the distance before he said anything. "Sorry I couldn't get here earlier. I got caught up in something."
"No bid deal. I'll sew it up later. Not like it's skin."
Sara shrugged. “If I really wanted to, it could have been.”
Sara noted that Amp was in the corner. Her tail flicked as she took a step towards the other girl, but that wasn’t enough time before another mutant was thrown into the room and landing on the floor. She’d say look who the cat dragged in, but the feline mutant had nothing to do with it.
"Sorry I couldn't get here earlier. I got caught up in something."
“Don’t worry. Nothing’s happened yet except for all of us making similar entrances into this room. “ Sara silently remembered everyone falling at the entrance of another room way at the middle of the camps. Funny how those things just seem to happen all at once. Sara reached down to Seraphim to offer a hand up.
"Wonder how this stuff works on non-mutants? You still have that remote stashed?"
Sara casually pulled the air into her nostrils as she glanced up at what Neena had just pulled out. “I’ve still got the remote. I need a collar to go with it though and someone to rewire them so that they only work together. Though if nothing else the remote will work as a blunt object or projectile.”
Raina couldn't help but laugh at Sara possibly throwing the remote and her musical laugh filled the air. "The plan is..." she started. "When we know we have the right guard out there" she pointed to the reflective mirror. "We can train." she gave a coy smile in the dark. "We all know a breakout is coming, it's impossible for the guards to stop gossping about it- it's just all a question of being ready for it when it does come." she stood up, the small room was already overheated and cramped. It was odd to see Raina take such a leader-esq position but these days since her mutation changed other things with Raina seemed to change too.
"We should be testing the limits of the collars- Shield made a small adjustment to mine and now I can talk... it can be too hard to tweak ours. And if we cant, we still need to be able to fight even if we're wearing them... this isn't going to be fun or easy..." she looked around at the comradory in the room. They wouldn't like hurting each-other but there really wasn't much choice. "We need to try to be silent too and as stealthy as possible. But most importantly... we must work together."
Raina always looked and seemed so young despite her 22 years. Many students back at the school had often seen her as a student herself and in a way she was. But the camp had a way of making people change and grow. Without her youthful red hair the dark pieces framing her face made her look wearisom, and determined.
(( OOC: So I know the initial thread setup was for Shield as guard, but I’m butting in anyway… hope nobody minds.))
Sonya/Doug really isn’t sure why she’s bothered to maintain her Camp infiltration all this time.
She vaguely remembers that, initially, she’d been concerned about the condition of the incarcerated mutants, but that feels like a long, long time ago. Besides, it’s not like she’s been able to do that much for them in her time as Doug. Distributing some contraband equipment here, deflecting particularly vicious guard behavior there, but nothing dramatic.
Not to mention that she hates this body – weaker, slower, blinder and deafer than her own, or even Teresa’s. She’s pretty sure it didn’t used to be like that; that her more “baseline” bodies had been improved somehow, but she’s not sure how it happened and she doesn’t know how to do it with Doug’s body.
Not yet, anyway. She’s been working on it. It doesn’t seem like it ought to be that hard to make muscles stronger, or to copy parts of someone else’s body piecemeal, but thus far her attempts to do so have been at best uncomfortable. At worst, excruciatingly painful.
Fortunately, she can “reset” her body to undo the worst consequences… but it still leaves her feeling weak and vulnerable in this body. On the plus side, she reminds herself, I’m not going to accidentally give away that ‘Doug’ is in any way superhuman, which is good.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter why she’s still here… she is here, and she’s got a job to do. The Resistance has finally gotten its act together to plan a breakout, and it’s time to get the inmates organized to take advantage of it. Which she’s been wanting to do since her first day in the Camps, and is rather excited about still, even if she doesn’t really care as much now as she did then.
And this new “group confinement” initiative is the best excuse she can possibly imagine. Of course, rumors have already been making the rounds – hell, she started several of them herself – but that’s not the same thing as a real announcement.
She nods at the portly guard watching over the confinees through the one-way mirror, allowing her contempt to show. He’s a second-rater, somebody’s cousin or something; the fact that he’s got a solo assignment at all is an indication of how many guards have been injured, hospitalized, or disappeared since all this started. I wonder how many of them Shrapnel took out all by himself, she thinks to herself, remembering the addresses database she’d provided the mercurial mercenary.
"Scram, kid," The guard – she doesn’t even remember his name – nods eagerly and scutters off, probably to catch a nap in an unused office or stuff his face with junk food somewhere. It’s not really Doug’s shift, but these days it hardly matters.
A quick glance through the surveillance mirror identifies the group she’d hoped to find there – Sara and Neena had become her primary points of contact among the inmates since he’d first revealed himself to them in the laundry pool – along with Raina, whom she’d been curious about since that weird mermaid incident. Amp, she’s more cautious about – she still hasn’t decided what to do about Slate’s information about her sister being a traitor to the Order – but even so, it seems unlikely that she’d side with the Camp guards. And the two guys are new to her, but things are moving fast enough that Sonya decides it’s time to discard some of her habitual caution.
So, OK… here we go.
Once the guard that “Doug” replaced is out of earshot, she gives a small set of knocks on the mirror… twice, once, and twice, a pre-arranged signal with Neena to let her know that no real guards are monitoring them. A moment later, Sonya/Doug opens the door and faces the gang of inmates, and delivers her message without preamble: "Breakout date is set, and soon. You folks are going to have to get organized so you don’t trip all over each other when the time comes. You ready for it?"
