This tenacity is counter-balanced by the fact that he’s actually extremely insecure within interpersonal relationships. While he loves himself, he has always been terrified that nobody else will. Constantly concerned with how others perceive his behavior and personality, Levi finds himself losing his exuberant spirit at a moment’s notice and retreating inward into isolation.

Social justice is of upmost importance to Levi, and he is often outspoken in his support of social movements by marginalized communities.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Force Field Creation/Manipulation: Levi’s mutation allows him to create and manipulate fields of energy that possess resistance to objects attempting to pass through them. Levi can allow targets to move freely through his fields. His force fields absorb impacts. These fields of energy manifest in the form of pale gold, translucent, and amorphous barriers. While amorphous in nature, Levi’s force fields encase the area around him. Thus, they are generally rounded, spherical, globular shapes. Levi can project his fields quickly to impact against targets, but this process is much more difficult for him. His fields are breathable spaces.
Strengths: Levi’s strengths lie in his ability to protect himself and allies from hostile attacks; withstanding the odds until an opening presents itself.
- Force Barriers: With concentration, Levi can project durable force barriers. They are amorphous in nature, but they are spherical, dome-like entities. The barriers cannot form within solid objects, but instead lay flat against them (a barrier around Levi would lie against the ground underneath him).
- Force Bursts: Levi can rapidly project and manipulate concentrated, temporary force fields to impact against a target, causing it to be knocked away from the impact.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
WILLPOWER: Levi’s mutation is linked with his mental stamina and willpower. When his fields are damaged, the incoming attacks will fatigue him as well. Maintaining the force fields over time also contributes to his fatigue. Large scale barriers, lengthy concentrations, and fast-paced applications can all tire him. Levi’s barriers require limited concentration. He can move and communicate while holding up a barrier, but cannot effectively fight or use his force bursts simultaneously. Levi’s force fields dissipate over about 1-2 seconds when he drops concentration willingly.
As Levi’s power is diminished, his mutation’s range and effectiveness will decline. Extreme situations/attacks could have severe effects, ranging from migraines, nosebleeds, or even knocking him unconscious. Levi could reach these states due to varying factors that will be expanded upon below.
FORCE BARRIERS:
RANGE & AREA: Currently, Levi can only maintain barriers that he is within. He does not have to remain at the center of these barriers. However, if the barriers shrink due to damage or other factors, they will shrink in towards Levi. These barriers have a maximum radius range of 15 feet. The further they extend, the weaker they will become. Thus:
- Force Fields: Radius range of 15 feet, centered on an initial point of origin. Levi must be within the field.
DURABILITY: Levi’s barriers are durable; capable of absorbing incredible impacts and damage.
The following chart shows how many impacts of varying degrees his fields can withstand before shrinking in range.
Durability Tier | Range (radius) | Colossal - 10,000 lb | Heavy - 1,000 lb | Medium - 100 lb | Low - 10 lb | Tiny - 1 lb | Time Limits |
S | Levi himself. | Destroys | - | - | - | - | - |
A (10,000lb) | < 5 feet | 1 | 10 | 100 | 1,000 | Unlimited | 10 minutes |
B (1,000lb) | 5 - 10 feet | Penetrates | 1 | 10 | 100 | 1,000 | 5 minutes |
C (100lb) | 10 - 15 feet | Penetrates | Penetrates | 1 | 10 | 100 | 1 minute |
When damaged beyond a durability tier, the barrier will shrink into the next tier of durability and range. To clarify, a heavy impact on a C tier barrier will penetrate through the force field and cause the field to shrink. This could have two potential outcomes:
A heavy impact on a B tier barrier, however, will be absorbed before causing the field to shrink.
Levi will be rendered powerless when his barriers are depleted at 10,000 lb. of absorption, except for a personal barrier that his body can instinctually trigger in deadly circumstances. Levi is unaware of this S-tier field which can withstand an additional colossal impact. Levi experiences headaches when absorbing upwards of 1,000 lb., nosebleeds upwards of 10,000lb., and will fall unconscious if his S-tier barrier is destroyed.
TIME: Levi can maintain his barriers for varying amounts of time given the range of the barrier. The time limits listed in the above charts mark the times before Levi would have to shrink his barrier to the next tier. The concentration times do not restart at each interval. For example if Levi held a C-tier barrier for 1 minute and maintained concentration, he would only be able to hold the barrier at B-tier for 4 additional minutes.
FORCE BURSTS:
Levi has learned to manipulate small, concentrated force fields at higher speeds than his standard barriers. Due to the momentum and size, they are much weaker than his force barriers and begin to lose solidity as they move further away.
Range (radius) | Weight Movement | Impact Description | Cooldown Periods |
0 - 5 feet (Direct Impact / Nova) | 50 lb. | Might knock the target back five feet, or to the ground. | 10 seconds |
5 - 15 feet | 10 lb. | Might shove the average person back a foot or two. | 5 seconds |
15 - 30 feet | 1 lb. | Might feel like someone pushing against your shoulder. | 1 second |
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Levi has an athletic background, dances regularly, and tries to remain active. His physical capabilities are above average.
Fighting Style: No formal training, but resilient.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Levi isn’t a fighter by nature, so he’s almost always going to be on the defensive. His mutation lends itself to this style greatly. In a one-on-one scenario, Levi is initially likely to try and knock his opponents back with his force bursts. Then, he will rely on his barriers to weather the assault until his opponent tires out, gives up, or gives him an opening to escape or fight back.
In a group scenario, his strategy would likely adapt to protect his allies. Similar tactic, but now it’s about warding the group until they can strike back. Depending on the situation, Levi may even act as a distraction while his allies attack from another front or retreat.
History Of Your Character:
Levi Pierson was born and raised in Southern California, within an upper-middle class family. Throughout his childhood, he rarely had to want for much. Ignorant of his mother’s personal financial and emotional struggles, Levi managed a fairly normal upbringing up until his parents’ messy separation when he was fourteen. Perhaps his busy schedule contributed to that ignorance. Between school, gymnastics, and eventually dance, his mind was almost always somewhere else entirely from where he was. So when his mother sat him down to tell him that his father was moving hundreds of miles north to Sacramento, Levi was genuinely blindsided. Truthfully… even after the divorce he remained somewhat naive as his older brother, Noel, was the one to take up a lot more responsibility.
Following the divorce, Levi threw himself into his gymnastics and isolated himself from many of his friends. During an impromptu practice by himself, Levi first realized his mutation. He hit a vault incorrectly and found himself tumbling through the air. Just as he was about to crash face first into the floor, he felt his body cradled in an unusual energy field that absorbed the impact. Confusion. Realization. Excitement. Fear.
The registration laws hadn’t been overturned very long, and there will still a lot of people who feared mutants, including his father. Another thing Levi would struggle with for years; another aspect of himself he’d feel he had to conceal whenever he met someone new. Beginning his post-secondary career at the University of San Diego would considerably help him with these struggles. Levi chose to pursue a degree in sociology, chasing a curiosity in marginalized communities and their complex relationships with society at large.
Two years later, Levi decided to move to New York City. His mother was right when she begged him not to - there was really nothing wrong with his life in San Diego. It just wasn’t right for him. He wanted to understand his mutation, to master it. He wanted to fight for social rights and justice. He wanted to dance. Maybe he just wanted to leave.

”She’s just getting out of the house for a night. She needs it.” Levi sat at the dining room table, scrolling an app on his phone. He had just gotten into it with his mother about hanging out with a mutant activist group on campus.
“Right.” Noel slung a dish into the dishwasher.
Putting his phone down Levi responded, “Seriously? What’s wrong now?”
“You really don’t get it,” Noel continued forcefully putting dishes away. “You’ve never had to.”
“Get what?”
“She wouldn’t be so stressed if you weren’t out there constantly drawing attention to yourself, if you could just-“
“I can’t change it!” Levi raised his voice. “It’s not my fault-“
“He left because of you!” Noel shouted and turned to face his brother.
Levi wasn’t sure why these types of situations always ran through his head. Especially recently. None of it was true. Noel assured him that their dad leaving never had anything to do with the mutation, or Levi being gay. The divorce didn’t have anything to do with him or Noel, but he still always felt partly responsible. If he had just been normal…
“Pierson?” The voice repeated. “Mr. Pierson?”
Levi woke from his daydream and glanced around the classroom frantically, then locked eyes with the professor. She had begun to tilt the eyeglasses she wore downward.
“Oh, um… short-sighted,” Levi stammered.
“I’m sorry?”
“The article. It’s damaging.” Several students turn to listen to Levi, and the professor offers a nod to continue his thought. “The author writes like… like the only determining factor in any of these cases is what bathroom they use. I mean, half of her examples were women of color, and I can guarantee none of them had the same access that the daughter of a multi-million dollar company exec had. Job opportunities, education… lawyers - they’re beyond comparison. To try and equalize them as a blanket statement on feminism is lazy… and insulting.”
One student at the front of the room rolled her eyes before turning back towards the professor to argue the point. Before she could speak, the professor addressed the class.
“Fair points. We’re almost out of time, but given Mr. Pierson’s perspective I’m going to alter the assignment for next class. Instead of doing the reading on the next two chapters, I’d like everyone to write their own version of the Thompson article. This is a great way to begin talking about intersectionality. Support the original, point out its downfalls, do whatever you like - just make sure you can back it up. I’ll see you all Thursday.”
The professor walked back towards her podium positioned in the corner of the large classroom. Students quickly packed up and started leaving. Levi leaned back in his chair and closed his laptop.
A smile crept across his face.
