The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The gargoyle's smile cracked, and she sighed conentedly at Nessa's touch, closing her eyes. That was some small consolation-- but Gina had never been the big sister. In her family, and in her friend group, she had already been the baby of the arrangement. The gargoye could feel herself melting as Nessa spoke. Nessa was good at finding the right thing to say when it counted. Gina caught the other woman's free hand, and kissed her knuckles.
On the topic of miraculously being younger, Nessa regaled what teen-Nessa was like.
"I wasn't as sarcastic," Gina mumbled, "Teen me is like... now!me but with less edge. I was kinda clueless too."
Life had a funny way of tossing mutants from their safe, insular worlds and into the real world, though. Not that "being a failed hit" and also "a victim of police brutality" were your standard markers of young adulthood, but... they definitely changed a person.
It was clear that Gina was lost in thought, because her eyes remained downcast. In her years of dating Nessa, it was a periodic but subconscious habit when she needed to sort her thoughts. Gina squeezed Nessa's hand lightly, then let it go without really moving her hand away.
An idle index finger traced circles on the back of Nessa's hand instead, "What game could we possibly play to wile away the hours..."

Gina mirrored the gesture when Nessa yawned, reflexively, despite not being even remotely tired. Gina chuckled softly as her hair was tousled, letting her eyes slide shut contentedly. The murmured idea of how to spend their time, however quickly dismissed, sent a thrill through the gargoyle and made her hum contemplatively. Her tail quivered. A few telltale signs that the telepath had the gargoyle's attention.
"Damn my wings for getting in the way of things," she sighed, her head retaining its place on Nessa's shoulder. She kept her eyes closed, for the moment, entertaining what possibilities their future could hold.
Gina followed Nessa's gaze out the window, lacing her fingers with Nessa's. A thumb rubbed the back of her hand.
"It's super weird~" she agreed, her brow furrowed. Her tone broke-off uncertainly, her mind dwelling on Agnes, specifically. Becca's confused and somewhat anxious phone call about Agnes being young again-- and not, like, metaphorically rejuvenated, but actually-a-teenager "young again".
Gina and Nessa had talked about going back to New York for months now, now that Pamela was recovered and working again. As much as Gina missed her small-town home, she'd loved New York. She'd fallen in love-- with the city-- with an incredible woman.
She squeezed Nessa's hand, a touch distractedly. Her outburst about mac 'n' cheese brought the gargoyle back full-tilt though. Gina laughed, perhaps a touch too loud given the sleeping seat-neighbors. She clapped a hand to her mouth, but was still smiling. Albeit sheepishly now.
"I know the recipe," Gina assured Nessa, "I mean... it's nowhere close to Mom-tier, but... it's pretty damn good."
Something about having it made by mom made the mac 'n' cheese that much better.
The gargoyle sighed, her tail flicking idly.
"So... what do you want to do?" the gargoyle asked aloud. They were pretty limited, given their surroundings. Gina shifted a mischievous glance towards Nessa. Her quiet proposals were, given the previous recommendation of "joining the Mile High Club", tame yet unsurprising.
Make-out? she mused. Gina's eyebrow twitched in amusement, denied herself. Other passengers wouldn't appreciate that too much though. Something to get my mind off Aggie.
Ah, the meat of the problem. Gina looked away. There was still a smile on her lips, but the note of concern was undeniable.

The gargoyle grinned back at the murmured inquiry, lifting her doe-y brown eyes.
"Let them be jealous," she whispered mischievously, her tail curling. Gina sat up ever so slightly, then nuzzled her girlfriend's neck, smiling remorselessly the whole time. What followed was a logical question-- wasn't Gina going to preoccupy herself? The gargoyle relented, pursing her lips in a faux pout.
"Well, I was trying," was the impish response, "But I got bored."
The gargoyle had stubbornly insisted that she didn't want to pay for wifi, politely declined the melatonin that could have pushed her into a comfortably sleepy area, and was now riding the waves of a nocturnal circadian rhythm. Sure, she'd brought stuff to do… but it had only lasted her the better part of an hour. Her smirk resolved itself to something more subdued as Nessa yawned, and the gargoyle did her best to look remorseful (even if she was, admittedly, glad for conscious company).
"Sorry for waking you," she added, more earnestly this time. She planted a kiss on Nessa's cheek and laced her arm through Nessa's, doing her best to stop fidgeting.

High above the ambiguous continental United States soared an airplane just like many of its kind. Cramped and unpleasant, saved only by periodic complimentary beverages and the occasional outcrop of good company found among passengers. The plane had been airborne looking enough that most passengers had fallen asleep, their heads tilted against the plastic windows, or lolled back against the headrest or their neighbor's shoulder. Here and there were soft snores, or slow even breaths.
Gina was wide awake.
Tilted sideways between two seats so as to contain her wings in the window seat, her knees flush with her girlfriend's legs. Thank God she was petite, but sweet Jesus what a long time to be cooped up in a plane.
The gargoyle had explored every option for amusing herself… reading, drawing, playing games on her phone. Nothing quelled the unease. Finally the mounting restlessness came to a point, and she instead turned her attention to Nessa.
Gonna was 85% sure Nessa was asleep, so waking her up outright seemed cruel and unusual. Maybe if she just… cozied up to her… she could take a little catnap? The gargoyle inclined her head towards Nessa's shoulder, minding her horns, until her temple rested against curve of where Nessa's arm met her torso.
>> ”Why don’t we get snacks and you can tell me what’s up? I’ve got all the time in the world.”
The smile lingered on Gina's face, and she nodded once. It would give her time to figure out where to start. What awful thing would she say first? Would she get right to the root of the issue? Or would she pussyfoot around until she stumbled onto the right words?
Gina held the door for Nessa, than followed her in. Even with the shades, the room felt too bright. A brief survey of the machines, and Gina settled for her usual-- vanilla. Atop The frozen yogurt, graham cracker crumbs, diced fresh fruit and cheesecake bites were sprinkled. This treat was deposited into a scale and, once both girls had set their creations on the counter, these were paid for, and they returned outside.
The gargoyle settled in her chair, setting the cup of yogurt atop the table. She dug the neon spoon into the dessert, and took a polite bite.
“I needed this,” Gina murmured distractedly, watching Nessa as she took her seat. Gina's heart quivered as she turned the words over in her head. She could feel her expression crumpling again. She took another bite of froyo. She wasn't usually so tight-lipped.

Something was off-- anyone who knew the gargoyle could see that. It was written on her face, in the stitch of her brow, the downturned corners of her mouth, the less-than-scintillating brown eyes. She looked like Gina but didn't. She stood her cell phone on one corner and let it spin idly beneath one fingertip. She'd texted Nessa. Originally she was going to just text her, but… it didn't be fair. They'd been going steady for a year and Nessa deserved better than that.
She deserved better than this. The phone slipped and fell flat, causing the gargoyle to jump at the sound. Darn these metal patio tables. She took the opportunity to survey their texts.
‘Hey babe, having a shit day, grabbing froyo. Wanna meet up?’ Gina's text read. Gina didn't really want froyo-- or really anything-- to eat. She was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that even eating seemed unthinkable. Anything was better than unloading on Nessa over text though.
The sun squatted low over the building's, sending refractions of orange light every which direction. Gina squinted through the darkened lenses of her sunglasses. The time of day was kind of a godsend. It hid the true purpose of the shades. She didn't want Nessa preemptively gleaning everything from her eyes.
Gina saw the familiar head of brunette hair, saw Nessa’s gait, and the gargoyle stood as if drawn by a thread. The sight of her girlfriend still brought a smile to the gargoyle’s face, even if it was tinged by something else.
“Hey beautiful,” the gargoyle greeted, rising on tiptoes to kiss Nessa. Even the greeting seemed distracted, perhaps a little tired. Well, she had said that she'd had a shitty day, “You're a sight for sore eyes.”
True, all of it true. There was something therapeutic about being around Nessa.

Gina smiled as Nessa expanded upon the gargoyle’s experience with games, nodding her head in confirmation. At some point in Nessa’s explanation, Gina became aware of her twitching tail, and quickly clasped it in her hands. The last thing she needed to do was accidentally bump a wire or knock a controller out of someone’s hands.
“Beginner’s luck,” Gina protested modestly, when Nessa suggested that Gina kicked her butt in board games. When David proposed using Gina as a secret weapon, it was Nessa’s turn to protest, with an added plea towards Gina not to use her powers against her. A mischievous looked crossed the gargoyle’s expression.
“No promises,” the gargoyle said wanly. As if any amount of practice could make-up for years, perhaps even decades, of experience. Realistically Gina knew she could never be honed into the “secret weapon” to take Nessa down, but bantering… bantering was fun. Of course, Nessa would be privy to all of this internal rationalizing, as Gina was gazing into her eyes. The gargoyle looked at Nessa through her lashes, challenging her, “Of course, I wouldn’t be a ‘secret’ weapon, if I told you about it.”

A female voice replied, saying that they'd buzz Gina in. The gargoyle awaited the signal then charged inside, smiling from ear to ear. Navigating the apartment was straightforward enough, and soon enough the petite gargoyle found herself at the door to A. Gordon's apartment. She rung the doorbell. Muffled footsteps became suddenly louder, there was the click if a lock and the turning of a handle. The door swung open to reveal a very green, vaguely familiar face.
>> "Oh....Gina?"
“Yes, that's me!” The gargoyle acknowledged. Gina knew her. Like, actually knew her. But… she wasn't a classmate, Gina would've remembered her name if that'd been the case. She proffered the clipboard that needed signing from a mostly-emptied messenger bag.
“I know I know you,” Gina said, lifting her sunglasses from her eyes, “But my brain is totally fried. Remind me of your name? Oh, and please sign here-”

She was getting paid to fly. How rad was that? The doldrums of summer had urged Gina to seek employment. And, though the position had originally called-for a “bicycle messenger”, Gina had managed to gain a competitive edge by throwing the mutation card into the mix. She could literally fly over the traffic that would otherwise pose a danger the a messenger on a bicycle. The job was as good as hers.
And that, friends, is how she was getting paid to fly.
Gina lit on the exposed rooftop of a multitiered skyscraper, fishing her phone out of her pocket. The first stop wasn’t too far off-- Gina traced the route with a clawed fingertip, then followed the same route along the street below with her eyes. No problem.
The gargoyle broke into a jog, then leapt off the roof of the building, her wings catching air.
The light was low in the sky, making the buildings little more than silhouettes against the reddish sun. Gina shook a few stray strands of hair free of her face, squinting through her sunglasses at the sidewalk below. She found an open place, landed, and quickly trotted up the stairs to the apartment’s entryway.
Gina skimmed the pager, found a smudged “A. Gordon”, and pressed the button.
“Ms. Gordon?” Gina spoke into the speaker, “This is Gina with Nile.com.”
She waited for a response, before continuing.
“Sorry to bother you, but I have a package that needs a signature.”
She didn’t make the rules, she just delivered the packages.

A small shiver ran through the gargoyle, and she smirked at Nessa. Before Gina could give her girlfriend grief, she had been led over to the smattering of couches and Let’s Play-er’s. Nessa gave her coworkers a single-finger salute, Gina smiled and tugged at the hem of her cut-offs. If she’d known she was making an appearance in the video, she wouldn’t have worn her ratty jean shorts and neon tie-dye tank top. Nessa took her seat, then patted her lap.
>> ”Right here works. These guys could use a handicap because I’m just too good at this mostly-luck based game.”
More bantering. The gargoyle chuckled, and carefully took her seat on Nessa’s lap. It was a process-- Gina steadied herself with a hand, fanning her wings slightly so that they were free of the couch. Her tail was draped to one side, parallel to Nessa’s leg. After some adjusting, Nessa had her controller in-hand, and addressed the unseen audience. Gina followed her gaze, finally spotting the camera. (How hadn’t she seen that before?)
>> ”For those of you who haven’t heard me getting all sappy and gushing about my girlfriend, this is Gina. She makes amazing clothes and she makes me happy because she’s basically the best thing ever.”
Absently, the gargoyle wove an arm around Nessa’s shoulder while she spoke, the tip of her tail twitching idly. She squeezed her shoulder lightly, then addressed the camera. (It felt like that was the right thing to do.)
“Hello~” Gina greeted, waving her free hand, “Nice to meet you… in a way?”
More bantering between Vince and Nessa, with a brief interjection from David. Gina, for the most part, stayed quiet. She didn’t have anything to add, and she didn’t want to throw their dynamic off. Thankfully, Dori seemed acutely aware of the gargoyle and roped her back in to the conversation.
>> “So Gina, do you play games? It’ll do my heart good to know you’re kicking her ass when she’s off camera.”
“Oh, I mean, Nessa’s introduced me to some stuff,” Gina admonished, “But I, uh, hadn’t really gamed much before meeting her, so I’m not much good… yet.”
Of course, if she wasn’t operating on panic-brain, she could have given some concrete examples-- like Tiny-Robot, or Megan, or The Stanford Parable, among others. Gina couldn’t even think of ways she kicked Nessa’s ass in other things. So she looked to Nessa for back-up on that.
The sense of bashfulness that washed over the gargoyle couldn't be helped. She wasn't part of Nessa's professional social circle, so it felt a little awkward just waltzing on in to the room that was positively bursting with technology and, despite the desparate attempt of a multiplicity of well-place fans, decently stuffy.
Gina grinned at her girlfriend when she confirmed that she had not eaten and would be down for cute lunchtime together. A deligted curl found its way into her tail. Both the smile and the tail-curl remained as Nessa hollered back at one of her coworkers. Gina was putty to Nessa's will, especially after the kiss and the mischevious tug at her hands. It took her brain a few half-seconds to realize what Nessa was suggesting-- wait, wait, on the cam? Like, the camera? The gargoyle dug her heels in, shaking her head of curls. While Gina was outgoing, the camera dredged up some camera-shyness.
>> ”Pleeeeease?”
Except, of course, when Nessa asked like that. Gina straightened her mouth at Nessa, the sentiment of Not fair, flashing through her eyes. Nessa knew Gina's will was weak, especially when she said please like that. No hard feelings, though. The unamused expression was quickly replaced by a smile.
"As long as you don't make me play," the gargoyle agreed, chuckling. They both knew that Gina wasn't much of a gamer, though she was always down to try.
Gina allowed herself to be led towards the couches, giving a brief wave towards the people already sitted there. David... Vince... she knew their faces from Nessa's videos, but seeing them in-person was different. More real.
"H-hey," Gina greeted, trying to sound casual. It was very un-casual. She glanced at Nessa, a nervous flutter running through her wings. In whispered tones, she asked, "Where should I sit?"

The gargoyle released tension from her shoulders-- which, until she released it, she hadn't been aware she'd been carrying. Good, it was temporary.
"Any idea of... how temporary this is?" Gina pressed-on, the indignance gone from her tone. Her voice was, in fact, pretty flat as she addressed the woman. No point getting butthurt about something that wouldn't last... but if the guy was going to be stuck as a gargoyle for a few days, Gina could at least offer him a shirt or two. Maybe a pair of shorts, so he wouldn't have to walk around with his pants on backwards.
Gina shrugged at the dude, "I mean, I can offer you some clothes, if this is... gonna last you a while. I did my own alterations, but like... we'd have to drop by my place? It took me a few years to learn to fly, so I wouldn't... go jumping off buildings. You might also want some shades? I'm super light-sensitive, you'll get a nasty migraine if you don't get that in-check."
Thankfully for the guy, and perhaps the gal, Gina's primary focus was making sure the guy that'd copied her power was taken-care of, which didn't really leave a lot of room for simmering annoyance. Explaining to Nessa that she'd found someone to help would be fun, especially since they were the blonde, male duplicate of Gina.
Dude seemed to be stressing about his new appearance, though, so Gina would break down the necessities in easy-to-understand chunks.

Gina smiled at the guy, who nodded vaguely in Gina's direction. Gina nodded back, then he called-out to another part of the room, summoning Vanessa. Nessa peered over the back of a couch where she'd been nestled, and Gina's timid smile became an all-out grin. Oh, good, this was the right place. Nessa vaulted over the back of the couch, running towards Gina. The gargoyle, likewise, skipped closer, wings flitting with excitement. Gina wrapped her arms around Nessa, relishing their brief kiss.
>> "I didn't know you were planning on dropping by! Not a complaint, by the way."
"Sorry..." Gina said, partially to Nessa and partially to the guys. She peered up at Nessa, her eyes pinching. The addendum, -not sorry, drifted through her mind with a warm humor as she exchanged a glance with Nessa. Honestly, who could be sorry about surprising their girlfriend? "The lady... the secretary... she let me in."
>> "What's up? Just down in the village?"
"Kinda, yeah," Gina admonished, her tail curling. Her brain, as if to sabotage her, murmured, -not really, "I mean, uh... I was doing domestic things around the house this morning, and made cute lunches. I wanted to know if you wanted a cute lunch, or if you already ate?"
I probably coulda texted that, Gina realized, smiling faintly at Nessa. Okay, so maybe she was a little bored with such an open schedule, and maybe this was all a ploy to both get out of the house and see her girlfriend. Gina rubbed the back of her neck, feeling just a little bit silly in a room full of people she didn't know, saying sappy stuff to Nessa. She wasn't ashamed, just... mindful about discussing couple-stuff in a room full of essential strangers. Sure, she knew their faces from Nessa's video, but names were foggy and here she was, talking about making Nessa a lunch, and...
"Probably should've texted you about your schedule, at least," Gina laughed.

After finals, the world fell into a sort of lull around the gargoyle-- university gave her life structure. Without it, she only had her commissions, and routine visits to the Bookman house. She didn't want to be too much of a fixture there, though, you know? It wasn't like she was paying rent or anything like that... and Nessa was a working woman. So Gina's visits were subject to the whims of her scheduling.
Not that she needed to get away Honeycomb. Perhaps her most challenging roommate, Astrid, had altogether pulled a vanishing act. One day, her personal effects just... weren't there. And the tension in the apartment dropped. With so few commitments, and so few things driving her away from the apartment, Gina was more subject to her own, domestic whims. For example, making cute picnic lunches. She didn't have the time during the school year to make cute picnic lunches, and now she did.
While Gina was making herself a cute picnic lunch, the thought occurred to her, Wouldn't it be cute if she made two picnic lunches, and took one to Nessa.
Yes, yes, it'd be super cute, and that made it a great idea.
So, Gina made two picnic lunches, packed them securely into a crossbody bag, and made her liesurely way across town towards the building where Nessa worked. She'd been there once or twice, to see Nessa off, but had politely declined going inside. The excuses had varied, but mostly boiled down to a humored, "There are cameras in there, please don't make me."
Today she was on a mission, though, and that changed everything. Gina strode towards the building, pushing through a glass door. She stopped by the front desk, speaking with the pretty, blonde receptionist for a brief moment.
"Umm, I'm Vanessa's girlfriend, she's with... the Block Party... and I made her lunch? Can I go take it to her? Do you know where she's at?"
Were there more people than just Nessa's group here? The effervescent receptionist eagerly pointed Gina in the right direction, rattling off the route to where the Party was. Gina said her thanks, and stepped lighthly down the hall. After a short walk, she stood at the door to their room, upon which hung a sign that declared it as the POW Block Party's room. Gina's wings fluttered uncertainly. What if they were filming? Should she wait here? Just go in? Knock?
She knocked twice, lightly, and then pushed open the door, poking her head in through the opening. The room was impressively warm, perhaps from the shear number of computers present. Her gaze flickered over a few unfamiliar heads of hair and faces. She was quiet for a spell, listening to see if maybe they were recording, or if it was safe to speak-up. The gargoyle slipped through the door, pressing it shut again with her tail.
