The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

[AV] Always Running Toward Danger, Even When Off Work(Amber)
"My parents also encouraged an active lifestyle. They had different ideas of what that means though." Rianne laughed, thinking back to how her parents each tried to encourage her to do things. Almost never the same things. "Momma had me learning to sing and dance. Daddy got me shooting and barrel racing." Rianne took a drink of her margarita. "I really do miss barrel racing though. I was good enough once to compete on the rodeo circuit."
Rianne laughed at little, "I had a parent who wanted me to be a performer but I competed in a sport. Yours wanted you to play a sport and you perform. What a pair we make."

"Barrel racing? Well that sounds neat!" Ambrosia had never even been to a rodeo before, let alone participated in one. Some rodeo games, she knew, had a reputation for animal cruelty and she wanted nothing to do with those. Others, however, not so much. She'd always loved animals and the only reason she didn't have a pet presently was because of her obsurdly busy schedule. Maybe it was the dragon in her, wanting to protect and cuddle all the furry critters of the world.
Ambrosia giggled and took another sip of her drink. She was feeling a little giddy with the alcohol. "Surely your parents must be proud of you though? Even if you didn't pursue all the things they wanted you to?" It didn't sound like she had one of those terrible childhoods with unloved and unlovable parents. Those stories were so sad.
"My parents have always been pretty supportive. Even when they found out I was a mutant, they said I was special and should treasure my gift. I guess I'm really lucky like that." For a moment, she felt meloncholy, thinking of all the stories of other mutants far less fortunate than herself.
”And it is so much fun!” Rianne said. Barrel racing was her passion for a while in high school. Sometimes she dreamed she was still doing it.
"Surely your parents must be proud of you though? Even if you didn't pursue all the things they wanted you to?"
”They are. And they always have been. They didn’t understand my wanting to go into law enforcement but they supported me. I think they just don’t want to see their little girl hurt.” Rianne’s father had been more understanding than her mother on the issue. While it would put her in more danger, it also meant Rianne would be more equipped to deal with the danger she faced on and off the job.
"My parents have always been pretty supportive. Even when they found out I was a mutant, they said I was special and should treasure my gift. I guess I'm really lucky like that."
”That’s awesome! There are way too many parents who when they discover their kid is a mutant, treat them like they are some kind of freak. I didn’t tell mine for a long time, I didn’t want that to be the thing that ruined our relationship. I was already an adult, so it wasn’t like it could make home life an issue. I’d seen too many bad outcomes so I feared the worst. They were accepting though, made me feel silly for getting so worried.”

Maybe it was time to go try new things. The enthusiasm Rianne showed for barrel racing was infectious. That, and she was starting to feel just a little bit giddy from the alcohol. "Who knows, maybe I'll have the opportunity to try that some day. Sounds like a real blast!"
It sounded like her new friend's parents were also among the good ones. It warmed her hear to hear happy stories in light of all the misery that was out in the world. "Parents rarely want to see their children hurt. I think that's a good sign." She smiled and took a sip of her marguerita.
"I grew giant ears and cat eyes so that was a little hard to hide from my parents," she laughed. "I mean, as far as being an obvious mutant goes, I think I got a pretty good package going on. Elves are cute, right? Cute definitely works in my favour when it comes to outside reactions. There's a lot of scary looking mutants out there and that makes their lives so much harder." Which was really sad.
”It really is! There’s just not a lot of chances to do it around here.” There was that, and that you ideally had your own horse and trying to keep a horse anywhere near the city would cost an arm and a leg. Either you stable it somewhere or you own a piece of property. Whichever way you go would cost a fortune anywhere close to there.
“Parent’s rarely want to see their children hurt, I think that’s a good sign.”
"Most parents. I’ve seen the others a few times… I sometimes consider transferring to child abuse. Those officers are sometimes the only advocate those kids have. I only stay because I know I’m more useful to more people where I am. But seeing what some parents do when they discover their child is a mutant… Sometimes I wish I could just pound on them.” Rianne shook her head, dismissing the train of thought. This wasn’t the time for such a conversation.
”Elves are definitely cute.” Rianne said with a laugh. ”And I feel for the visible mutants who aren’t so cute. Especially the ones who look dangerous. Many of them are forced to become as dangerous as they look because people put them in a box where fighting is the only way out. While it doesn’t excuse violent and criminal behavior it makes it understandable. Maybe someday people will just learn to mind their own business and that mutants aren’t the boogeymen.”

"I've only ever lived in the city so I don't have much experience with animals. Well, I used to have a couple of kitties and a dog. Wish I could again but, you know, renting." Owning a home was another pipe dream when you worked retail and especially owning a home in the city. "I was one of those little girls who always wanted a pony. Never happened though." She laughed at the memory.
"I've seen a few of those stories myself," she grimaced. "I try to live by a pacifist philosophy but, I mean, sometimes certain people just deserve to be punched in the nose!" So maybe that wasn't the most extreme punishment one could conceive of, but it was the thought that mattered, right? Some people were terrible and didn't deserve the lives they had.
"I hope so," she responded, sounding melancholy. "When even mutants like me sometimes have problems, you know things are bad. But more positively, I've met a lot of wonderful humans as well who are also super passionate about helping mutants. Call me an optimist, but I like to think the good people outnumber the bad." It was just the bad that got all the attention because they caused all the trouble.
”I’ve only lived in cities too. Though back home drive for ten minutes and you can get to the country. I’ve had lots of experience with animals.” As pets, as beasts of burden, and as something to hunt. The latter was mostly MLD or managed land deer tags. Hunting does and spikes to control population on high fenced property. Rianne wasn’t a trophy hunter. ”I’m in the same boat as you though, I want to get a puppy pretty bad. Would cost way too much though where I live.” Rianne hadn’t been a little girl wanting a pony, she’d been a little girl with a horse to ride.
”That’s why they pay me the big bucks.” Rianne said with a forced laugh. They did not pay her the big bucks. ”I sometimes get to punch them in the nose. Mostly though I have to stand there and not punch them while dealing with them.”
”I think you’re right. There are more good people out there than bad. I just have to deal with the bad so often it feels like that’s all there are sometimes. It can be hard to walk that thin blue line.” Rianne took a sip of her margarita. ”Maybe one day people will learn that putting salt in someone’s sugar won’t make theirs any sweeter.”

"Don't get me wrong, I love the city but sometimes it can get super chaotic. It might be nice to live somewhere quieter for a while, you know?" Although in truth, she would probably enjoy it for like, a month, and then start going seriously stir crazy. Maybe one say she'd be rich and be able to afford a nice little cabin in the woods for whenever she needed to retreat from the chaos of the city. A girl could dream, right?
Ambrosia could tell by the forced laugh that 'big bucks' was a bit of an exaggeration and she offered a sympathetic look before taking another sip of her margarita. "I'll bet its sometimes hard not to completely lose it, especially when there are children involved." She grimaced at the thought.
"We help one person at a time though, right? You might even be surprised, sometimes a few kind words and a bit of patience can turn bad people good. Sometimes people just haven't been given a fair chance to understand." It didn't happen often, but it did happen. She wished it happened more.
”I know exactly what you mean!” Rianne said. Living in this concrete jungle all the time would be a nightmare. ”I take as many chances as I can get to get out of the city and just spend some time out where I can see stars.”
Ambrosia gave her a sympathetic look and said she bet it was hard to not completely loose it when kids are involved. ”It is easier when you know that losing it only hurts the kid in the long run. Still hard sometimes though, so very hard.” Rianne tapped her finger unconsciously on the side of her glass, a sign of her irritation. ”It’s easier when kids aren’t involved.”
Rianne liked what Ambrosia was saying. She didn’t believe all of it, but the sentiment was good. ”I’m at the point where I don’t think everyone can be redeemed. I’ve seen too many people who are too far gone. Everyone is worth the chance, but I don’t think it’ll work on some.”

"Camping is the best. These days its usually only at a festival that I get to camp, but my parents used to bring me camping regularly." With the thumping base and laser show, festivals weren't exactly your relaxing camping experience, but they sure did have perks of their own. Some of the best times of her life had been at festivals.
"I believe it." Ambrosia rarely had to deal with actual children, she'd had many a teenage runaway come through her doors seeking food and shelter. It broker her heart every single time, especially the young ones. All she wanted to do was give them each a giant hug and tell them each that everything was going to be ok and have those words be true.
"Oh, I don't believe everyone can be redeemed but some people can." She sighed. More than one person had accused her of being a naive hippy girl, but she wasn't quite that naive. "I just think its important to try, especially those who are new to the path. If you catch it early, sometimes you can turn it around."
”I only ever went camping with my family a couple times. They were too busy to give up many entire weekends for it. And I’ve never gone to a festival where I would have camped. It sounds like it would be fun though.” If her time off ever lined up with one it would be something she might do at least once. As it was, half the time her time of was in the middle of the week. Six months with it around weekends, six months with it around mid week. At least she didn’t alternate days and nights.
”That’s fair. And I wish there was more money that could be spent on community policing to try and keep people from getting set on the criminal path. I wish my particular job wasn’t needed. I’ve never had to shoot, but I have scoped in on a kid before.” Rianne took a long drink of her margarita. It gave her chills to think about how close she’d come to killing a 16 year old kid once. She’d received the go ahead to shoot, but in that extra second she delayed the kid had surrendered and put down his gun.
”Sometimes I think I feel too much to be a sniper.”

Everyone should have the opportunity to attend a festival, or so Ambrosia believed. Even if you didn't think you were a 'festival person' there was guaranteed to be a festival out there for you. "Well, if you ever have the time and desire to attend a festival, you let me know. I'm something of a veteran."
"One day, I'd love to be able to fund some community education programs. You know, teach youth from a young age about mutants and about tolerance." If you started teaching people good habits and positive beliefs when they were young, the chances of them sticking was much greater. Time and again that had been proven. "But for that I need funding and I'm a long way away from that goal." One day. One day it would happen.
She grimaced at the thought of having to shoot people, let alone almost shooting a child, and took a long drink of her own. "I bet that's tough, but feeling means you're a good person." Snipers that didn't feel were even more scary than snipers that did. That's where serial killers came from.
”If I ever decide to attend a festival you’ll be the first call i make.” Rianne said with a smile. Having someone to attend a festival with might just be the ticket to get her to actually attend one.
Ambrosia told Rianne about how she would like to fund programs to educate young people about mutants and tolerance. ”That sounds like a wonderful idea. The funding though, I don’t know where you’d get that. Buddy up to some rich mutants maybe? I’ve seen people throw money hand over fist at much less noble causes.” Like anything political. Ever. Did they really need that much money?
”Having to deal with taking the shot is the hardest thing. It isn’t even like when you fire to defend yourself. That is easier to justify to yourself. Taking the shot as a sniper it…” Rianne fumbled around trying to find a way to describe it. ”As a sniper you control the time and means of someone’s death. Sure you sometimes have to make the snap shot, but often you receive the okay to fire and you decide when the person you are watching dies. It is so cold and very much a conscious action.”
Rianne held up her margarita, ”Tequila helps take the edge off, sometimes.”

Well now, it sounded like she might have a future festival buddies. Neat.
She nodded, acknowledging the challenges of raiding money. "As a performer, I've done little things here and there. But I think they trick is to find the right person, someone with both the money and the passion." She had one but sadly not the other.
"I'll bet you have nightmares at tight." She shook her head sympathetically before raising her margarita to a clink to the good nature of margaritas everywhere.
"Onto more pleasant things, then. Do you have a partner? A family?"
”Put like that it’s so simple.” Rianne joked, ”There’s bound to be someone out there. Given enough time I’m sure you’ll find the backer you need.If not there’s always GoFundMe.” She certainly didn’t have the money to help Ambrosia. Not that she was hurting for money, but NYPD wasn’t anywhere near what some other large departments made relative to cost of living.
Ambrosia clinked Rianne’s glass and Rianne took a long drink before answering. ”Sometimes. Mostly it is just trouble getting to sleep. The more time there is after I have to take a shot the better it gets… and it does get easier to deal with. Nothing shakes you like your first."[/color]
More pleasant things? Yes please!
”I don’t have anyone right now. Haven’t gone out of my way to look for someone and work has made it difficult lately.” Rianne shrugged. As much as she would enjoy having someone else in her life like that she could carry on without the companionship. ”I do have parent’s who live in New York though. They moved upstate a couple years ago when they retired. The few years they lived in the city had been enough for them… And they didn’t move back to Texas so we could still be close. I’m their only kid. How about yourself?”
