The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It seemed a little screwed up that because she hadn't been injured punishments were less. Didn't intend count for anything? Still, it was better than the alternative of a punitive justice system where vengeance and punishment far outweighed rehabilitation and change. Even if all they got was a slap on the wrist, maybe it would actually knock some sense into their thick brains.
"Whenever you like, my schedule is usually pretty open. I hope he didn't get hurt too badly." Some might find it unusual to actually feel sympathy for your attackers but, after all, she hadn't really gotten hurt and she didn't want any of them getting hurt too badly. They were young and stupid and angry, but they didn't deserve their lives to be ruined because of some stupid stunt done in their youth. Besides, bringing the gap between human and mutant had to start somewhere and she was tired of everything waiting for everyone else to take make first conciliatory action.
Walking inside the little pub, it seemed welcoming and casual. She sat down across from Rianne and took a look at the menu. "Gosh, there are a lot of options here." Taking a moment to scan through, she finally settled on something. "I think I'll choose watermelon honeydew melon."
”I’ll contact you after I get into work in the morning. We can decide on a time then.” Rianne would just go out of service while talking to Ambrosia, unless something catastrophic happened she wouldn’t receive a call. ”They took a worse beating than they would have if there weren’t three of them. I had to make sure each one didn’t get up after I moved to another. It isn’t something I like to have to do. They should be fine though.”
The bartender waited while Ambrosia looked down the menu. After she ordered she replied with an accented, “Sure thing! I’ll have them right out.”[/color] and set off to prepare the drinks. Order’s placed, Rianne turned to Ambrosia.
”Tell me about yourself, Ambrosia.” Rianne was fishing for a topic of discussion. She wanted to help keep Ambrosia's mind off the attack.

Orders taken, the perky waitress bounced off. "It must be tough, sometimes, knowing that you could hurt someone accidentally. Or be hurt yourself." It was the kind of job she was pretty sure she'd never be cut out for; violence just wasn't in her genes. Although that did bring back her previous thought that learning some self defense might not be such a bad idea. "You don't, you know, teach that stuff do you? I mean, not breaking bones and hurting people but self defense? Just in case?" Probably a long shot but it didn't hurt to ask.
”Tell me about yourself, Ambrosia.”
"Myself is probably not nearly so exciting as yourself," she replied with an airy laugh. "I grew up in LA with my two moms, who were amazing. Moved here last year, you know finding myself and all that. Started working at a Pagan shop and helping spread awareness of the mutant plight and helping those who need my help and promoting peaceful mutant/human coexistance. Other than that, not much more to tell. So, how about you? I'll bet your life is much more exciting than mine."
"I've been lucky enough to not accidentally do too much damage to someone else. Nothing permanent. I've had to use more force than I had hoped several times." Rianne trailed off, she didn't like to discuss times she was forced to use force up to the degree it would leave permanent damage to a person or when she was forced to kill someone. Or at least, she didn't like discussing it so openly, she could address it clinically if necessary. Latching onto the topic of self defense she said, "It isn't something I've done much of, but I don't see why I couldn't teach someone enough to get by. The thing is, self defense is the kind of fighting were breaking bones and hurting people is what you do. It isn't sporting, it is for when you feel your life is threatened. That means there are no rules and nothing should be off limits." Always seek to avoid a confrontation but if you find yourself in one be ready to do whatever is necessary to make it out alive. That was how Rianne saw it.
Rianne smiled at Ambrosia saying she was probably not nearly as exciting as Rianne was. Sometimes Rianne found her life too exciting, other times not very exciting. Not a whole lot of middle ground.
Ambrosia told her where she grew up, when she moved to New York, and that she owned a pagan shop. Rianne knew this is where some people would have heard enough, especially people from back home, but she did not interrupt. Rianne had no problem with differences in faith. When Ambrosia finished and asked Rianne to tell her about herself she said, "It's always nice to find people who have found ways to help where they don't have to dirty their hands." Rianne said it with a lot of respect in her voice, it wasn't easy to swoop in and punch up the bad guys to save someone but it only took a lot more physical strength than anything. Ambrosia had to have a great emotional strength to help how she did. That made it truly hard to do.
"I was born in Texas where I lived a pretty normal life. Well if you consider barrel racing normal. After there was a stabbing in front of me one day my family moved up here to be closer to work. I went back to Texas for college before joining the NYPD to help people. I worked the streets for a few years before I gor into the Emergency Support Unit. Now I only really respond to higher priority calls. I'm the person who shows up when you need SWAT but SWAT takes too long to mobilize." Rianne stopped as the waitress brought over their drinks. "Gracias, senorita." She said to the waitress before the waitress walked away.

Ambrosia nodded, engaged as the other woman spoke. "I don't feel threatened often but, you know, I guess I sort of put myself out there sometimes. Locally, I'm kind of a face for mutants. A mostly cute and unassuming face, but still." This time she was the one to trail off. Many things could be said about her and one of those things was that she was occasionally lacking in common sense. The type of sense that told a person they should know how to punch back before they placed themself into the line of fire.
"What exactly do your powers do, anyway? I mean, I saw you kind of pulverize that. Are you a speedster?"
It was gratifying to hear the respect in Rianne's voice. Some dismissed what she did as unimportant because she wasn't on the front lines fighting supremacists from either side, but she believed otherwise. Her work was just as important as what any of the more active crusaders did. So many mutants fell between the cracks and needed support, both financial and emotional. "I want to be a social worker one day, specializing in mutants. Once I save up enough for school, that's my plan. So many sad stories out there, helping them makes life so much more worth it."
"Well, thank you for doing what you do." The drinks arrived and Ambrosia took a sip. "Ooh, this is yummy."
It was Ambrosia’s turn to trail off while speaking. Rianne let this line of the conversation rest for now, both of them had seemingly hit their limit on it. They could bring it back up again later to work out a time to train self-defense.
Then the topic of powers popped up. Ambrosia asked if Rianne was a speedster, ”No,” she said with a slight laugh. ”I...I can run fast, lift heavy things, see beyond human visible light, hear things outside human hearing, and can have greater lung capacity. Not all at once, and it seems to respond more to what I need. I can’t just casually lift a car. It was my power that let me hear those thugs assaulting you. I was blocks away when I started running.”
Rianne drank from her margarita, careful not to give herself a brain freeze. ”From talking to you, I’d think you’d make a fantastic social worker! It is an emotionally draining job that you have to have conviction for or you burn out."
There were plenty of people who went around and said they ‘Back the Blue’ but not all the time does someone say thank you and seem to genuinely mean it. Rianne pinked a little, genuinely thankful that Ambrosia had said thank you. ”Thank you for the support.” She moved the margarita to her mouth to cover the slip of emotion.

"Wow, you're able to do all sorts of cool things. Must be perfect for a life of fighting crime." That certainly explained the damage she'd been able to do and it sounded far more useful than her own power. Not, of course, that she felt any shame in the gifts she'd been given. Being able to fly was supremely awesome and there were very few things that compared to it in the world. She almost felt sorry for those who would never know the thrill or the freedom. When it came to a fight, however, well she'd pretty much all ready proven her lack of use there and that was doubly the case in her other form. Cat-sized claws and cat-sized teeth only went so far.
"Oh, thank you!" The words were heartfelt. "I think its party because it hard that its worth doing." Those were the ideals her parents had instilled upon her. Always challenge yourself and always pursue things that you could be proud of doing.
"So, what do you do for fun?" Ambrosia asked, changing the subject. All this mutual admiration was starting to get to her.
”I didn’t get my speed or strength power until a few years ago. Though, being able to track by heat or follow blood with ultraviolet on the fly is useful. I worked hard to be able to keep up with the men in the department, then my power goes and makes me stronger and faster than any of them.” Rianne laughed and drink some more margarita. ”You have no idea how hard it is to find clothes that fit my arms without being for someone twice my size.”
“So what do you do for fun?”
”I go to an MMA gym twice a week, at this point I spend more time there helping teach instead of learning. I love to go out dancing. I hit up the dance halls here when a good country act visits them, and I often go out to a few other clubs.” Rianne brought the margarita to her mouth before adding, ”I do miss horseback riding though. Not many chances to do that in the city.” Then she drank.

Both the company and the yummy drinks were enjoyable. Ambrosia took another sip of her drinks as she listned to the other's story. It was always interesting to hear the stories of other mutants and how their powers developed and eventually changed their lives. Because how could the development of powers not change one's life? It seemed to her that most of the time it was for the better, at least in the long run, but she'd heard a few unfortunate stories in her time helping mutants.
"Sounds like your powers were really an unexpected gift. I don't know how useful mine are, so to speak, but they are pretty neat. I can change into a tiny dragon and blow colourful fire. Sort of. It doesn't actually burn anything." A sheepish grin followed by a small display. She blew a tiny stream of flame into her half finished drink and it ignited in bright green and purple flame. After letting it burn merrily for a few seconds, she placed her hand over the top of the cup, smothering it. "See, pretty."
Another sip of her margarita before answering the question. "I love dancing! I don't get out nearly as much as I'd like, but its one of my favourite things to do. I also enjoy performing in front of people, spinning poi, singing, dancing, that sort of thing. I play a mean violin."
Ambrosia described and then demonstrated a bit of her power. A bright colorful flame burning on her drink. "See pretty." That was quite the understatement.
Rianne stared at the colorful fire."Very. You have one of the most beautiful powers." Especially compared to her own. Colorful fire was in its own league compared to hulking out and smashing faces.
As Ambrosia described what she enjoyed doing, Rianne got the impression that the pair of them could have a good time out on the city. "I get the feeling we'd have a blast if we were to hit the town together. And, I have always wished I'd learned to play the violin. Such a lovely instrument. But I have to ask, what is spinning poi?"

"Why thank you," Ambrosia replied to the compliment. She liked attention and wasn't one to deny it or act shy about it. As a performer, wasn't attention kind of the point? Of course, positive attention was much better than negative. Especially in her early days of performing, she'd had her share of hecklers but eventually she'd gotten into the proper swing of things and, aside from the occasional anti-mutant bigot, those sorts of disparaging remarks were now rare.
"A night on the town sounds lovely. See, I guess even bad things happen for a reason, right? Otherwise I wouldnt' have been able to meet a neat lady like you." She grinned, having a grand time.
"But I have to ask, what is spinning poi?"
Now there was a question. "They're spinning, dancing toys common in festivals and raves. Sometimes they glow and sometimes they're lit on fire. I like fire poi myself." She winked. "I'll have to show you sometime."
”I guess you’re right. Silver linings and all that. “ Rianne pulled out her now cracked phone. ”Let me get your number and we can hit the town sometime I’m not wearing holey clothes.” Thankfully she wasn’t bleeding as well. Just because she could run that fast didn’t mean she could land that fast. Thug 1 had just taken most of the impact for her.
Ambrosia gave a description of what spinning poi was. ”That sounds amazing! You definitely have to show me.” Rianne finished her margarita and waved for the waitress’ attention. When she got it she pointed to the glass and called ” Uno mas por favor, señorita.”

"Oh gosh, your poor cracked phone! Did that happen tonight, saving me?" Well, that was certainly something to feel bad about. Maybe she should offer to replace the phone? Not that she had a lot of spare money lying around, but her life had basically been saved in the process so it was only right to maket he offer. Wasn't it? At least it seemed to still be working. She'd lost her own phone more than a couple times. Something about changing forms and flying away and leaving her clothing and worldy belongings behind. It didn't exactly serve for a long
Ambrosia gave out her own number. "I'd love to show you sometime. It can be quite a show." She'd been dancing and spinning for years and had even considered going professional with her act. If it wasn't for her passion for helping others, she might very well have done so. When the waitress appeared, she indicated a refill for herself, as well.
"I find performing very theraputic, plus its great exercise. Healthy body, healthy mind, right?"
“Oh gosh, your poor cracked phone! Did that happen tonight, saving me?”
”Some of it. I learned a long time ago I can’t keep the newest fanciest phone. I am too hard on them. Makes me miss my old Nokia. The department helps me pay more new ones when I completely smash them, so it is all good.” Her phone was a couple generations old, but so far was still trucking on. This latest crack wouldn’t knock it out of commission, but it might put it on its last leg.
“I’d love to show you sometime. It can be quite a show.”
”Oh, I bet!” Rianne said as she saved the number under a new contact in her phone, then put it away.
“I find performing very theraputic, plus its great exercise. Healthy body, healthy mind, right?
”For sure!.A lot of people would probably be a lot happier in life if they put more time into being active.” Lord knew Rianne needed her exercise to burn off the stress of her own job.
That and margaritas.
”Gracias.” Rianne said to the waitress as she dropped off the second frozen drink.

"Well, I'm glad I didn't' cause your poor phone too much trouble then." She could just imagine what kind of havoc that kind of job would cause to a cell phone, especially when you combined mutant powers to the mix. Maybe they needed super armor phone, or something, just for those people who were especially hard on their technology.
Number saved and phone put away, it felt good to make a new friend. She had her performer friends, of course, but sometimes she felt lonely in the big city. They were mostly all good people, but finding others with a real drive to do good in the world was a rarity.
Their second drinks arrived and Ambrosia nodded her thanks at the waitress. "My moms always encouraged an active lifestyle. I took dancing and violin lessons as a kid. They tried to get me into sports but that never quite panned out. Performance art, on the other hand, I took to immediately." She took a sip at her newly arrived frozen drink.
