Mutation description:
Power Rework 11/14/2023
-Ranger’s power including the multiple growths have been consolidated into a single new power which incorporates gender switching following a disastrous run in with a power Somation Mystic-
Power Name: Dimorphic Defensive EnhancementsAs a result of an attack on a genetic level by a Somation Mystic, Ranger now has a female form he sometimes shifts into and out of. Ranger’s existing powers of Reactive Enhancements, Reactive Defenses, and Reactive Support have also been split across the two forms, limiting his options depending on which form he is in.
MALE FORM:EnhancementStrength: allows Ranger to lift up to 65,000 lbs (the weight of a fully loaded tandem axle fire engine) or vertically jump 45 feet into the air (general maximum height of a three-story building).
DefensesStructural Strength: When their power is empowering the strength of their bones and joints, they are able to handle the crushing force of their weight plus their maximum ability to lift.
Slash resistance: By aligning and increasing the number of collagen fibers in their skin, the Ranger’s skin becomes incredibly hard to cut through. It has the equivalent of a 5.75 on the Mohs scale. This is on the harder side of steel.
Puncture resistance: By increasing the number of randomly aligned collagen fibers and thickening of the skin, the Ranger’s skin takes on the equivalent of level IV body armor. Anything above what level IV is rated for will likely be delaminated, which means that the jacket and core will likely separate and reduce the effectiveness of the round, as it passes the skin if not ball ammo or armor piercing.
SupportSight: If the light in a given area is so limited that they cannot see, then their eyes will change. The structure will alter to pick up either the infrared or ultraviolet spectrum. Which it uses is determined by which provides them the greater survivability. The eye will faintly grow red or purple depending on the spectrum it has changed to.
Breathing: If their body requires more oxygen for one reason or another, exercising, long fight, running a marathon, etc. their alveoli increase their efficiency, increasing their lungs' vital capacity.
FEMALE FORMEnhancementSpeed: it allows Ranger to run at a top speed of 120 mph on paved and level ground or to move their limbs with an extreme speed or grace.
DefensesAbrasion resistance: By altering the structure on the surface of their skin, Ranger is able to increase the amount of abrasion their skin can handle. It is increased to the equivalent of wearing a leather jacket over their skin.
Electrical resistance: The human body under optimal conditions has a resistance of around 100,000 Ohms. When their power is active the Ranger’s body has a resistance of 12,500,000 Ohms. This is enough that if they grabbed a prong from a taser in each hand it would not conduct through him.
Thermal resistance: In instances of extreme hot or cold, the Ranger’s skin is able to reduce its thermal conductivity. This means they lose less heat in the cold and take in less heat when it is extremely hot. This allows them to walk through fire and travel through subzero temperatures for short durations. The resistance wears down over time and the duration of its effect is reduced by the extremity of the temperatures.
SupportHearing: If an area is quiet and being able to hear something, for example a pursuer, their tympanic membrane would increase its reactiveness thus increasing their ability to pick up sound waves. Both amplitude (volume) and frequency (pitch). It can also reduce sensitivity to sound if necessary.
Breathing: If their body requires more oxygen for one reason or another, exercising, long fight, running a marathon, etc. their alveoli increase their efficiency, increasing their lungs' vital capacity.
Strengths:
- Ranger dynamically adapts based on the most immediate threats.
- Ranger is capable of displaying multiple powers and tailoring themselves to a variety of threats and situations.
- Ranger can have three different powers active at once.
Weaknesses:
- Can only use one form at a time.
- Can only use one defense and one support ability at a time.
- Ranger lacks direct control over gender shifts and associated defensive enhancements, potentially leading to conflicts between what he thinks he wants and what he gets.
- Transition times between defenses may leave Ranger momentarily exposed to changing threats.
- Only one defensive power can be active at any time. Whichever harm affects the Ranger first is the one their power will react to. Once it has reacted it must remain in that state for a minimum of 20 seconds before it can switch to another aspect. It’s a tremendous energy sink to transition into any one aspect and from one to another. If nothing causes the power to switch from one aspect to another it will end after three minutes following the last attack it defended against. Five changes is enough to leave the Ranger winded by itself. Following this they must take a rest of at least an hour before the power can activate again.
- The enhancement is relative to the level of strength Ranger has at the time it activates. If they were to let their unenhanced muscles atrophy this would limit what their power can give them.
- Only one attribute of the form can be enhanced at a time. For example, if Ranger is in their male form they can increase their ability to lift or provide explosive power to leap.
- The enhancement reshapes the muscle fibers physically to meet the demand. If Ranger is lifting at or near their maximum lifting capability their muscles will grow to extreme size and limit their range of motion and slow the speed they can move them. Likewise, if they are moving quickly their muscles reorganize themselves to an optimal structure for speed and reduce their ability to lift and support weight.
Power Name: Proactive InstinctsProactive Instincts is a pseudo-consciousness that governs Ranger’s power. It acts on its own interest in protecting itself by keeping Ranger alive, potentially in spite of his noble goals. This pseudo-consciousness controls all of Ranger’s powers, no longer leaving them to his subconscious. It also can exert control over Ranger’s movement.
The power can enhance Ranger's agility, reflexes, grace, and autonomic self-preservation abilities. This power rapidly evaluates all sensory data as it comes in, providing auto-adjustments to ensure peak coordination and expert movement. It typically activates in high-stress environments but can also trigger in low-stress situations, such as when Ranger is asleep or not consciously aware of their surroundings. In these less stressed states, the power offers more subtle assistance, like rolling them off the bed to escape an assailant and waking them up.
For instance, if an object is moving towards Ranger at a perceivable speed, the power initiates earlier body movement to dodge. It won't allow them to dodge a fired bullet, but if they see the muzzle and trigger finger, they can keep their body out of the line of fire.
Additionally, it allows movements with the precision of muscle memory gained from thousands of hours of practice, such as throwing a perfect punch, executing a flawless draw stroke on a weapon, or releasing a perfect curveball.
The less stressed activation is a low power state providing limited assistance. Essentially it is the only way the power can trigger when adrenaline is absent. While it can cause Ranger to move (rolling away from danger in his sleep or sidestepping threats), it is more focused on simple things such as maintaining balance by making small adjustments to muscles as Ranger sits, stands, or jogs.
Strengths:
- Enables incredible feats of accuracy and dexterity, significantly enhancing Ranger's combat effectiveness. Time needed to line up shots is reduced, and motions are nearly flawless.
- Ranger can move with minimal energy waste, boosting their endurance, agility, and grace.
- Movements are akin to having muscle memory from extensive practice.
- The power can activate without Ranger's conscious knowledge, manipulating their body for short-term defense while asleep or reacting to subconscious cues.
Weaknesses:
- Ranger's reliance on the power for optimal movements can lead to unexpected or involuntary actions.
- The recovery time is equal to about twice the length of time the power was active.
- Enhanced reaction time might cause Ranger to act prematurely, potentially endangering allies or complicating missions.
- When activated under stress, the power operates in short bursts of twenty seconds, up to five times. Each use requires a 30-minute recharge, and they recharge consecutively.
- If the power activates without a conscious stress trigger, it operates at a more limited capacity but can function for two hours at a time.
- The pseudo-consciousness has its own will and it controls how Ranger’s powers function. When and which power is activated.
General Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/Stamina/Flexibility) Ranger, due to a lifetime of physical training can out lift all but those who are competing in Olympic lifting events. He can also keep up with all but Olympic runners in terms of speed and endurance. He also has quick reflexes. Yet, all of these come at a cost, Ranger lacks in terms of flexibility. The sheer mass of his muscle restricts his movement.
Fighting Style:
Mixed Martial Arts, mostly a mixture of kick-boxing and Brazilian Jujitsu… or simply just shooting.
Years of training in military combatives followed with MMA training since leaving the military has made the Ranger a force to be reckoned with. He can strike with the force of a heavyweight without using his power and with his power can have the mobility of a bantamweight.
That said, he is skilled at integrating firearms into combat and if need be is as likely to shoot as throw a punch.
Fighting Style Pros/ Cons:
Pros:
As a mixture of several formalized styles there is a possible answer to any situation.
Cons: Ranger is experienced at fighting against people he can shoot or put his hands on. Ranger's sheer mass and the amount of power he puts behind his strike means he can gas himself out faster if not careful.

History Of Your Character:
Please write the history of your character and explain when they discovered (if applicable) their power(s).
Michael was born to a wealthy family in Bryan, Texas. His parents had made a fortune for oil and because of that he had an easy childhood with all wants and needs met. Michael felt this was too easy a life and when he turned 18 he enlisted in the army and entered the 75th Ranger Regiment. While in basic his power began to manifest and with its aid he quickly became a promising soldier, master of martial arts and an expert marksman. During his 5 years in the military he was sent all across the globe using his ability to complete missions that for others would have been impossible. During his tour he was promoted to Master Sergeant and moved into the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) On his last mission he was sent to Siberia in pursuit of a terrorist leader who had been confirmed to have purchased nuclear weapons. During the mission he truly came to understand his abilities and how they worked as he had to push himself through a near death experience in pursuit of the terrorist leader.
Following his tour of duty he decided to head to New York City and become a vigilante fighting the crime there, both human and mutant. He lived in an apartment there for roughly a month but then moved into a house he has been in for around 2. He survives off of his inheritance from when his parents died during his military career and from operating Blackforest Tactical a private military company specializing in clandestine operations in non-permissive environments.
After being deaged to 25, losing 10 years, he found himself working for the government agency of SUPER. This followed his escape with fellow deaging victim Noel. The pair joined SUPER together and immediately after being ready to act in the field found themselves body swapped. During their prolonged Freaky Friday they decided they should be married while under the influence of a mutant who reduced inhibitions.
Nine months later, Emma Hunter was born.
During a fight with Null, Ranger's power was attacked by a wild magic somation spell and permanently altered. Now they change between male and female forms based on the powerset they are using. This has led them to more fill a motherly role in Emma's upbringing, drawing from memories that were lifted while body swapped with Noel.

Ranger pounded pavement. His men would cover the buildings, Tempest had called out the hostile vehicles so that was his mission. He was expecting directions, but instead Tempest swooped in like a thunder god and lifted him into the air. Tempest had warned Ranger, but being lifted off his feet by something other than a plane or helo was not something he was accustomed to.
Their flight put them above the fog, Ranger’s vision reverted to normal. There was enough light to follow what was happening. Plus, the SUVs they chased had headlights on and drove in formation, they would be easy to chase. Their flight also covered ground faster while travelling the way the crow flies. Ranger could run fast, but that wasn’t close to the Tempest Express.
The storm Tempest had running to carry them battered the ground below, pallets and crates flew, goods were scattered, guns slid across the ground as their crates were busted open. It was like a small hurricane had hit Red Hook. The damage it wrought was worth it as they closed on the SUVs
Hovering some eighty feet above the SUVs as they drove, Ranger made a snap decision. They needed to stop the SUVs to end the chase. The gang needed to be stopped, but they needed to not trash Red Hook with a hurricane to do it.
”Drop me on my mark! Hold altitude!!” Ranger called out through the storm.
”Three.” Ranger watched the relative position to the SUVs,
”Two.” They just needed to get a little more of a lead,
”One.” There! The SUVs slowed to avoid a pothole.
”Mark!” When Tempest released Ranger he pulled in his arms, pinning down his rifle to his body, and dropped. From eighty feet Ranger fell, he had a moment to mentally prepare himself before his feet impacted the hood of the lead SUV two seconds later.
Ranger impacted the hood with twenty-thousand foot-pounds of force. His power kicked in providing his bones with the strength they needed to not immediately snap. The SUV nosedived and after a brief moment of digging into the asphalt flipped ass over teakettle. The next few moments were fuzzy to Ranger. He stood up, the SUV laying on its side forty feet away. The second SUV had impacted the first and spun out but was still drivable, the third had swung wide around. It was Tempest’s target.
Everything hurt. His clothes were worn from sliding and rolling over asphalt. He could see blood from where his skin had fared worse than the rest of himself. His rifle was trashed. He stumbled a few steps before finding his balance. Being launched from the flipping vehicle had rattled his head like a can of spray paint.
