The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah, I wanted something dark-ish because you know, my hair." She gestured as if for effect. "I'm also not doing it myself, someone else is helping me with it. I figured it might be good to get help and I don't really want to be in a hair saloon for hours at a time..." She shuddered at the thought, so many different people would be walking past or going in if it was a halfway decent one.
"And yeah, I've got quality serum and dye. My..." Was the word friend? Her and Skye were friends right? That was a weird thought, having a friend. God she was a depressing person sometimes. "My friend is giving me a hand with it."
There was always a feeling of elation or satisfaction when you could tell when you were winning an argument or something similar. She smirked at Alice. "I suppose that's why I'm finding you so amusing then, Alice." She teased.
"Hah. I don't think I've managed to run afoul of any of the staff. It helps that I can literally just avoid them when they're looking for trouble or in a mood." She admitted. She'd really come to appreciate some aspects of her power over time. If she was going to suffer from the side effects, she was sure as hell going to get some enjoyment out of the benefits.
Emily smiled. The funny thing is a few years ago, it would have made her blush or just made things awkward, but she'd really gotten used to sensing the people checking her out. It was pretty normal to her at this point. Less common with girls, sure, but it still happened. "Oh I know, don't worry." she smiled.
"Doesn't work that way." She admitted. "I get all of it, the amusing, the sweet and the unnervingly creepy or awkward." She added before smirking. "You're in the amusing category, if you were wondering."

"Shush you." She murmured while they were concentrating. "You're much more delicate than me, anyway~" That was absolutely not true, Emily was just barely what could be considered a healthy body shape and ratio. She'd totally forgotten she tossed a blanket over Skye the first night they'd hung out, Skye had fallen asleep while Emily was drawing and she'd covered her with a blanket gently because she didn't want the moron to catch a cold or anything.
"Definitely. You're a very easy scapegoat, it helps that I'm the reputable trustworthy sort and you're a multi-coloured rebel." She shot back with a flicker of amusement. She chuckled. "It also helps that you're adorable, your emotions make me feel..." How did they make her feel. "They're kind of invigorating, I definitely feel more aware around you."
She gasped and turned to Skye with a wide smirk. "I've worked it out! You're a walking coffee!" she joked before going back to the game. The boss went down like a total loser, it was super satisfying.

She snorted. "I'd probably let you take the bed, and just sit here. I don't sleep most nights anyway." She admitted. Passing out was fine, as long as it wasn't the concerning kind. She made a mental note to keep an eye on how much Skye had to drink while she finished her own drink and went back to the game, enjoying the feel of Skye warming back up to normal.
She smiled a little at Skye. "Yes. I'm glad we agree, this is good. This is all your fault." she teased.
Emily was maintaining her safe distance from Skye out of game and doing her best to follow the other gamer's instructions as the two of them played, she was getting things done it was just less effective than before. It was probably partially the lingering awkwardness, partially the alcohol.
The surge of embarrassment made Emily twitch in her seat a little. She'd not even caught the hair colour, just the intent. Actually she'd not noticed any other person's emotions almost the entire time they'd been in the room. Emily wondered if this area was desolate, or if she was just lost in their own little world...

Emily eyed Skye making herself another drink. She smiled gently. "You'd better not hurl, sparkly lightweight" She teased, leaning back and watching the other girl with an inverted point of view. Emily leaned forwards and took another gulp of her own drink. The buzz really did help sometimes, it made everything more fuzzy and that was a good thing. Usually it was more of a measure to stave off empathy headaches, this was more to calm her own nerves.
"I don't know what you could possibly mean by that." She replied, staring at Skye as she took a large sip of her drink, there wasn't all that much left of it. "Well I'm typically well behaved" she lied "So I suppose you are the bad influence driving me to drink?~" deflection was the best tactic for dealing with discomfort.
She did appreciate Skye's words, but she wasn't going to acknowledge them out loud. "Alright then. Hope you know what you're doing..." She murmured. Emily's character required a little more finesse than she was used to, and her reactions were definitely a little more sluggish than they can be. She kept glancing out of the corner of her eye at Skye, for no particular reason.

Both Emily's social and anti-social drinking were mostly bad habits taking the shape of coping mechanisms. It was easier to ignore your headache and other people that were in particular bothering you if you were a little tipsy. Or... A lot tipsy, or blackout drunk. Nobody was perfect. "You are excused." She shot back sarcastically.
As Emily sat down, wobbling a little bit before settling into a cross legged position she looked straight down at her controller, purple locks spilling all over her vision, taking a breath and getting back into the mindset of gaming. "Sure you do." She smiled, looking up at the game and trying to remember what they were doing before. "And I never get plastered." She blatantly lied. "I'm impressed you pronounce it correctly." She teased.
Orange was good. Joy was good. "Of course, I'm always good." Emily was definitely the pinnacle of stability. Yup.

Okay, Emily was starting to amend her initial impression of Alice a little. She wasn't just a bearable personality, she liked this girl. It was funny how doing just a little socialising went such a long way. Maybe she should re-evaluate her life approach a little bit. Just a bit. "Don't forget heavy metal and single player video games." She added to Alice's list with an amused smile.
Emily was wearing her usual mixture of torn up jeans and blacks, including a halestorm shirt, but she'd yet to dye her hair. That was actually happening the next day. "I've thought about dye for a while. Going to be doing something with purple in the very near future." She admitted, a little sheepishly. She really hoped that Skye knew what she was doing, or that was going to turn out to be a mess.
Emily let out a chuckle when Alice started to feel the creeping embarrassment that came with realisation. "Yeah, it can be awkward. Can also be useful and amusing for catching people off guard." She smiled knowingly.
"Don't tell you what, Alice? That it's amusing and fun to tease people that didn't realise they were super obvious to me? I tend to find it's most amusing with nerdy lesbians." She teased. Emily glanced around a little catching glimpses of the games going on. Which ever kid chose this game needed a beatdown in something else, but that was maybe an event for another time.
Emily snorted this time. "Hah! Learn to hide your stash better, nerd." She teased further. "And don't draw too much attention to yourself... Although-" She smiled mildly knowingly. "I guess that's not really your style, is it?" She ventured.

Emily snorted. "That's literally what I was saying you dumbass." She was now looking up at the ceiling. It was really hard to chill yourself out when you were high strung and you couldn't ignore everyone around you. Part of the reason she isolated herself and didn't really make many friends around the mansion up until recently was because if she wasn't feeling great she could be even snappier than usual, and then that was a whole other thing to deal with.
Shaking her head in amusement. "I'm not sure that's accurate. In fact I'm sure that's inaccurate." She was well aware of how nasty and sharp she could be to interact with, she'd done a double take at her own sass when she was hanging out with Alice, initially at least.
"Maybe you just defuse me a bit." She admitted. It helped that their interaction started with Emily trying to offer help she supposed, she didn't actually speak out loud until that point either. Maybe that was it. There was also some definite natural chemistry with the two of them, she couldn't really put her finger on it though.
"That makes sense, even when I'm absolutely plastered I'm pretty good at avoiding creeps at parties anyway." Empathy not turning off and all, she could pick up the people to avoid pretty easily even when her judgement was impaired.
Emily took another 20 or so second just staring at the ceiling after Skye sat down, taking another sip of her drink and setting it down she moved over and sat down. The shaking had stopped, good.

Emily shook her head with a wide smirk. "You are a massive basket case~" She quickly replied. "And I mean that as a term of endearment. It's fine that you're a crazy person, as long as you're happy." Emily's smirk became a little more mischevious. "What, my prickly personality makes me alluring to you?"
"Nope, it's got nothing to do with a devil. It's mostly just that you're fun to tease." She shut down before giggling. "You're really fun to embarrass and tease. As long as I don't do it for two long and start getting backfire, it's a great way to pass some time." She added.
"No, I was just teasing you more, because it's fun." She added, taking another sip of her drink. Emily might actually sleep tonight, that'd be nice. She rolled her eyes. "Dear god woman, you are a lightweight." she found this whole situation very amusing. So amusing in fact that she had started giggling again. Oops, she'd better keep that under control.
"I shall have to remember to be careful with you at parties." She teased.

"Whoa, this basket case is adorable and the right combination of fun and emotionally unbalanced that I might not scare her away" She shot back quickly taking another sip of her drink. It was silly but she was starting to feel calmer again. God. That interaction shouldn't have messed her up that much. Was there something wrong with her?
Honestly the buzz helped Emily ignore some of Skye's emotions, and those in the other rooms. It wasn't as bad as it normally was due to the aforementioned conditions in the mansion, and Emily was glad for it. "I am, aren't I?" she muttered without any real conviction.
Oh, that flash she picked up on. Emily snorted. "Skye, if you hadn't noticed I don't exactly like people. Most of them I hate, actually." She admitted. "If I can be around you this much without either running away or throwing up, you're definitely likable enough. Or maybe the opposite, I don't know." She was clearly rambling. The buzz was effecting her now truly and it'd been a week.
Emily remained perched at the edge of the bed and glanced back at the girl staring up at the ceiling, wondering what was going on behind her bright hair and brown eyes. "Even if you're totally the biggest moper that has ever moped." She teased now, smiling down at her.

"Yup. That's what I think of when I see an adorable walking rainbow. 'Fount of wisdom'" she made air quotations for the last part, and then took a few more sips of her drink. Emily was not a large girl, and her tolerance hadn't really had time to develop, and as a result the quick drink she'd taken quickly went to her head a little, she leaned against the edge of the bed and enjoyed the calm.
"Yeah, you caught me. I'm really well behaved, honest." She smiled gently when Skye moved over to follow suit.
Emily didn't quite flinch when Skye touched her shoulder, but there was a little more shrinking away from the touch than usual. "Mhm." She admitted, blushing a little at the concern and the affection from her friend. "Just keep being you. Like yourself. I do, plenty." She murmured quickly, before taking another steep gulp of drink.

Emily listened to Skye nodding and just letting the words wash over her, kind of taking in what she was saying but not really processing the meaning behind them. "Yeah, that makes sense." She replied back. She was glad that everything had calmed down, it made it much easier to get her bearings than if she'd been trying to do this a few minutes ago.
She shuffled some clothes and other things in the cupboard out of the way of a stash. "I wasn't talking about cola, in case that wasn't clear." her brain started catching up to the words that Skye had let out and considering them. She normally didn't play this sort of fantasy, and when she did it was normally the stabby slashy kind of fantasy.
She sort of liked that about monster hunter, it was simplistic in it's presentation and style. "Well thank you." Emily pulled a couple of glasses across her desks, poured a couple of inches of liquid into one of them and drank it in one gulp before doing the same again and topping it with cola. The shaking in her hand had settled mostly now.

Emily blushed much harder than before, she was feeling... Raw? She couldn't quite put it into words, being overexposed to intense emotions sometimes left her feeling ground down. That and Skye's situation dredged up some old highly uncomfortable feelings that she'd probably been repressing the hell out of for the last 2 years.
Emily's throat felt dry. She stood up as Skye picked up her controller, turning her back to Skye mostly so she didn't see the facade cracking. "Do you want a drink?" she asked. There were bottles of cola on the desk but Emily went into one of the cupboards and shuffled things around a little bit.
"Shush you, you clearly know what you're doing." she shot back softly.

Emily slowly calmed down herself as she held Skye, feeling her friend come back to normal. She felt this sort of shaky exhaustion spread throughout her body. The ordeal was quite stressful, she didn't enjoy feeling despair of any kind, and it was all more profound when it was coming from Skye.
Emily eyed her for a few moments before nodding gently. Her arms were shaking. Were they supposed to do that? Was that normal? She unconciously edged a little further back than she had been before. "You don't need to thank me, you're an awesome person and I'm not going anywhere."
The shaking feeling was in her stomach. Ugh. This had been so fun, it turned into so unpleasant. Not that she held anything against Skye, she was still almost entirely worried about her more than anything. There was now just this unease radiating through her body.
"It's a shame you distracted me, I think I was about to over take you in dps." she tried to tease but the words came out a bit dryer.

Emily held herself close to the other girl, frustrated at her own lack of power. She wished that she could do the things she'd heard of other empaths doing, taking pain away, easing sadness. It wasn't the sort of thing she thought of often, but she was definitely frustrated by her lack of ability right now, that was for sure.
Emily was out of practice with this whole hugging thing, but she definitely wasn't letting go, she was just doing her absolute utmost to absorb as much of Skye's pain as she could.
"Just breath, it's okay. I'm not going anywhere. Take all the time you need." She soothed. Emily was going to be processing the whole thing later, when Skye was alright and she had some privacy and distance to have her own personal freakout about the whole situation.

Emily felt her core rock around a little as Skye sobbed. It was intense. She'd been very close physically to Skye a few times, but not while she was in turmoil, and the only time she'd even been near her like that so far was when she'd just met Skye and was in the process of trying to ignore and avoid her. That wasn't how she felt now though. She wanted it to stop, and not just because it felt awful for her too.
Emily took another steadying breath, hoping that Skye wouldn't hear her it, though with how much of a mess she was it wasn't that likely. The Brit gently held the other girl as she felt her embrace tighten, just letting her sob and started gently stroking her cheek. "It's okay. Just keep breathing. You're fine." she murmured in her ear letting her slowly settle.
"You do not need to apologise. Ever." She shot back with sincerity and heat. "You're an honest, warm person and that's one of my favourite things about you." It was funny, her first instinct had been to stroke her friend's hair, but the blue mohawk somewhat hampered the gesture. So she stroked her friend's cheek instead.
Emily made sure that her eye roll was visible before reaching in, hugging Skye front on, tucking her arms around the other girl and squeezing her, her face on her shoulder gently. "Oh shut up." she soothed softly. "I'm not worried about that." She didn't think it was necessary to add that she was worried about Skye.
