The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Okay, so it was maybe, definitely not quite that Emily was being carried. She wasn't really used to playing things this complex or thought requiring. She liked games a lot, she'd just never had much of a talent for them, partially due to the limited time she'd been able to allocate to learning and enjoying them.
Skye on the other hand evidently had played a lot more than Emily, working out what she was doing much before the purple haired Brit did. Emily was honestly not enjoying the gameplay itself so much as the adorable spectacle and the hanging out with a real friend more than anything else.
But at some point it had just.. clicked, and after a couple of hours she knew what she was doing, everything was going smoothly and then they were starting to coordinate and function well as a team.
Until... they weren't.
She intensity and shock of the sadness hit her like a physical blow, Emily gasped and dropped the controller. Blinking a little in shock and turning to see Skye breaking down Emily had an internal freak-out about how to quickly quell this before it got any worse.
It wasn't like she'd never had a panic attack or anything, or been around people that had. She could help. Sure. Yeah.
She took a very brief moment to steady herself against the wave of anguish hitting her, moving physically close to Skye and gently whispering. "Hey hey. Skye. Breath."
Then Emily did something she'd not actually done to anybody, even family, in a long long while. She wrapped her arms around Skye and hugged her tightly. "It's okay. Breath."

Well, at the very least Skye was thinking about her personality and emotions with some positive emotions too now. Emily figured most people had things they didn't like about themselves, or really just couldn't stand. She also figured most had things that they really didn't mind or actually kind of liked.
She yawned a little as they moved into her room, dropping her bags absentmindedly in the corner. "It kind of varies. It's one of those things that I do when I can't sleep, so more often than not it's clean, even if I'm not really a clean person by nature." She admitted.
Emily set up some cushions on the floor for them to sit on and sat cross legged while Skye set it up, wandering what sort of game it was like. It did look extremely silly.
Skye's character was absolutely adorable. Emily hadn't really played with character creation all that much in these sorts of games, but she supposed as Skye was doing it she may as well. She definitely didn't spend as much time playing around with it, and the end result was that of a gothy looking bat-girl rogue.
She may or may not have giggled when the game started and an adorable cutscene played out, introducing them to their first mission.

Emily really ought to get as good at digesting and recognising her own emotions as Skye had been getting. It was maybe trickier for her, with the muddling that came from other's being around. She knew her feelings on some things for sure. "I feel like some respectable counsellor when you talk like that~" she teased. She wondered what Gemma would make of the advice she'd given Skye. She supposed no solution or advice was perfect, and Skye seemed much improved than she had been.
"You are a weird cocktail of emotions, and wading through blue emotions is fine. They're still a part of you. And you being a weird cocktail of emotions is also awesome." She corrected.
Rolling her eyes with a soft smile she sighed for dramatic effect. "Oh if you insist."
Emily led Skye to her room after a quick stop over at the microwave to make some popcorn of course, and soon enough they were at her door. She unlocked it and let them in. She had a room to herself. She had enough privacy issues without adding more ontop of them. Emily's room was... surprisingly ordered and clean, given how all over the place her personality could be.
Okay so it seemed in retrospect silly to think that somebody with no kind of power could just completely naturally understand people and do all of this easily. But Emily wasn't perfect, and it definitely helped to realise that Gemma probably wasn't either. Emily always had odd thoughts while in an adapted's field. She wondered idly if it was a placebo thing, or if other people's emotions really effected her cognition much.
Emily felt extremely awkward waiting for Gemma's responses between questions and her own answers. She still wasn't used to the dynamic. Not being able to pick up on somebodies emotional reaction was like missing lines of dialogue when trying to act out a scene or something, it was like she was just missing some context.
She gave a strained smile. "I know. Trust me, I do appreciate the complex relationship on Ethics with my power." she chuckled and shook her head a little. "I've gotten into arguments with a teacher about mine over the nature of Telepathic and Empathic mutants, he thought we should all walk around wearing tags or disclosing to everyone that we talk to that we have a power. I have strong thoughts on the topic." She admitted.
"Although, It would be very different circumstances I suppose. And yes, I have learned that I can still be thrown even with them." She smiled awkwardly. "Empathy doesn't equal telepathy for reading people." She admitted.

She was very amused at how much Skye inadvertently complimented Emily. Her brain definitely didn't work the same way that Emily's did, she tended to cover up things with sarcasm and wit, whereas Skye was so genuine and honest. It was sort of refreshing, Emily enjoyed honesty in other people a ton, even if she wasn't really a person to give out much of it herself.
The ride back hadn't been... That bad all things considered. And the mansion was immediately quieter as they entered the frost-dusted grounds than it had been recently, Emily was definitely very thankful for this.
There was always an odd mixture of joy and sadness this time of year. Emily had decided that it was probably the combination of kids that didn't have anywhere to go and appreciating everything that the mansion staff did for these children and teenagers.
She blinked a few times and narrowed her eyes at Skye. Was she planning something? Usually excitement didn't mix with nervousness like that. "Skye? What's up?" She asked, no teasing or edge in her voice, just genuine curiosity.

Shaking her head in amusement Emily almost closed her eyes, just feeling the slight change in her friend's feelings, enjoying the current vibe a lot. "Bite your tongue, my advice is always this good."
Emily snorted, loudly. "You have a high opinion of both yourself, and your weirdness, hmm?" she asked, a teasing edge to her voice. The confidence was very enjoyable, and a good sign that Skye might be getting the whole idea now and dragging herself out of the depression she'd been in. As far as Emily was concerned, Cognitive Behavioural therapy had the right idea, helping people to change their way of thinking to something inherently more positive was a very good way to help them.
Maybe her degree wasn't totally useless. "If you say so." She replied in a soft sing song voice. Emily actually leaned against Skye gently on the public transport, still clearly very aware and awake but with her eyes closed. How could she really relax in a tin can with a ton of other people? She was just trying to envelope herself in her friend's confidence and happiness and drown out everything else, with mixed success.
Emily actually laughed as they were getting off the bus and going into the mansion, Skye basically dragging her. "Hey calm down, where's the fire?" It was one of those funny expression's she'd heard that Emily actually really liked.

Emily chuckled at Skye's response and shook her head in amusement. "Probably not. There is a girl there that I think could probably take just about anyone." She conceded. "And duh, of course you should do it. My suggestions are always good suggestions, haven't you figured that out by now?" She teased.
"Well I've definitely had worse times with weirdos in malls." she replied, sticking her tongue out at Skye.
She appeared to be considering it. "Nah, can't be. Maybe the teasing you improved the experience. Maybe." She nodded sagely while they walked out of the mall complex, grateful that the transport would likely have less stressed out passengers than the frantic people running around the mall.
She joked, but the smile was not leaving her face, it in fact seemed to be stuck there with some kind of solvent.

Emily had played some racing games, mostly the very casual kind involving popular mascots, she didn't really see the appeal in those serious ones involving real cars. In fact she didn't really see the point in games that imitated realism. The real world sucked, why would she want to escape into it? The one exception she made to this was a certain simulation franchise, but she didn't count that as the real world either. Normal people didn't have green diamonds floating above them.
"That sounds better than most of my dates." She admitted. They'd all been lame. Except for one involving Star Wars, but that'd all been such a mistake she didn't dwell on it.
"Well maybe you should start playing with different people? There are quite a few people around the mansion that are into games. I played at a little event there recently that was sort of fun." Sort of as in she spent most of the time losing, then briefly won, then lost spectacularly.
Emily quickly nipped into a store and bought some microwave popcorn (Butter popcorn, obviously) and a few other snacks along with some cola before leading the two of them to the mall exit, dreading the ride back to the mansion a little as she always did. "This was a lot less lame than it could have been." She admitted before quickly adding. "It's probably because this mall doesn't suck and I've got a great sense of style."

The purple haired Brit felt another surge of affection and concern from Skye and responded with feeling warm and fuzzy also. "Okay, I will." It was probably a lie. Maybe. Emily would probably just ignore the headache until it got to a painful level, rather than inconvenience her friend.
"It was mostly fighting games." she admitted sheepishly. She'd only ever played with her dad when she was younger, and he was somehow even worse at games than she was. "I played with my dad a lot when I was younger, we've been playing monster hunter together, he sucks more than I do so it does take us quite some time to get anywhere whatsoever." She admitted, her mouth moving rapidly before she could double check the words coming out of it.
Emily picked up another couple of games that she'd wanted to play for a while, silly cute-sy RPG's as well as a couple of edgier more serious games and resolved that she'd try and play most of them with Skye, doing her best to concentrate on Skye's emotions as she had been but finding a few flashes of the staff at the store really pissing her off.
She stared the young man down the whole time he served Skye and then when she paid for the 3 she was carrying stared him down further. "Problem?" an edge crept into her voice.
Getting the other's without incident she followed Skye out, feeling the other girl's joy wash over her and risked creeping into her aura a little further, almost shoulder to shoulder, slowly smiling again.
"Actually... I have an idea." she thought for a moment before continuing. "It's kind of the start of the holidays, a lot of people will be out, or have gone home to see their parents so the bedrooms will be quiet at the mansion." She glanced around a little before seeing a little convenience store.
"I could buy some popcorn and other snacks and we could hang out in my room and play some games." She added brightly.

Emily didn't really get too close to people that often, physically speaking. The closer she was, the more emotions she picked up and as a general rule that extended to touch so she avoided it, had almost developed a little complex about it you could say. "I'm okay." She replied quietly, feeling very grateful for the understanding and affection.
"I generally used to play competitive stuff but..." she glanced around, she was close enough to almost whisper. "I sort of suck at games." She admitted out loud, a little moment of vulnerability. "Which I will definitely deny if you tell anyone ever that I've admitted that."
"I would like to." Emily had already thought that if they could find a quiet enough place, she'd very much enjoy playing some games with Skye. She actually enjoyed the girl's personality and presence very much.
Emily wished she had a scarf or something to hide behind, but that'd be pretty obvious too. Dammit...
"Thank you, Skye." She began perusing the games also. She'd been playing a monster hunter game online with her dad and had really liked it actually, she wouldn't mind playing something cooperative, or even single player and sharing with Skye.
"I wouldn't mind playing through an RPG, if it's with you."

As she'd thought about it, Emily had actually sort of put two and two together as to why the mall was bothering her so much. It wasn't really Skye's fault. Not that she would have blamed the girl for her emotions anyway, but it was largely the combination of anxiety and awkwardness from almost everyone else in the area that was driving her mad.
It was so close to Christmas, and they were in a mall. Of course there were a lot of people running around in a panic, doing a shop as they got off work for the weekend and whatnot.
Emily shook her head quickly. "No no, it's okay. It's just..." Emily glanced around and squeezed her eyes for a second, suddenly picking up on some more tension and confusion around her. Yeah, the vibe in a mall in the holidays was pretty painful, she'd forgotten. "It's a lot is all."
Awkwardness and blushing be damned she supposed, nothing else for it. She moved a little closer to Skye so that they could talk low and she could concentrate most of her attention on the other girl, just drown out all of the other stuff around her. She smiled sheepishly. "I've not played it. I'd be willing to try." She admitted.
Oh no. "Uhm, no it's okay. I play sort of whatever." she tried to quickly shake out of her own funk and gently touched Skye's arm. "I'm the one that avoids me. Please don't feel bad." Ugh. God she sounded so lame.

Emily was very grateful that Skye moved past or just didn't notice her little awkwardness meltdown. Maybe the latter. "Alright." She followed Skye, amused at the little dismissive notions the other girl made, none of the places they neared where Emily's style anyway. She had clothes, they'd recently eaten and jewellery wasn't really her thi-
Video games? Hell yes. Emily hadn't bought a new game in ages, she was kind of sick of focusing so hard on school. She'd been doing fine, very well in fact. That probably came from her very limited distractions in the way of other people.
She mentally braced herself as they walked into the store, picking up on the basics of the situation quite quickly. "Someone doesn't trust you." She murmured, feeling a little awkwardness bleeding over again.
"Maybe next time we have an outing lets avoid places that might connotate embarrassment, please?" Emily murmured in Skye's ear sheepishly. It wasn't just Skye, she felt a few of the shop's staff give off the same vibe.

Emily spent a good minute flailing internally with her own emotions, and Skye's emotions. Sometimes she wandered what was coming from her, and what was coming from somebody else. If she was being honest with herself there was something about interacting with Skye that threw her off, honest compliments and especially honest compliments that caused her to embarrass herself definitely clawed away much of Emily's facade and dragged some warm fuzzy feelings out of her.
She spent almost the entire time Skye was wandering about staring absentmindedly at the mirror, keeping track of her friend's emotions as Skye distracted herself and only realised that she'd been absolutely lost in contemplation when Skye walked over and complimented her, again.
She went with what was supposed to be one simple nod and came out more like 5, feigning needing to inspect it for another minute or two while Skye wandered off to pay.
A minute later she took a breath and walked over to the counter buying the jacket, which she did actually like, and dumped it into a large paper bag not remotely neatly walking back over to her friend she smiled very sheepishly.
"Sorry." She started to move outside of the store before adding. "For keeping you waiting, I mean, obviously."

Emily immediately felt the realisation of her pointy personality edges hit Alice. When she was moody she felt an odd satisfaction it in. Generally she found people feigned offence, attempted to disguise their intentions, or relied on politeness, or informed her what a bad little girl she was being, and that she should exercise some more social etiquette.
However, that was not the impression she got from Alice. Obviously it took a little longer than a short conversation to read people, but her initial reaction was not the norm. It was odd, having two similar reactions so close together. Obviously the dynamic of her and Skye meeting had been drastically different, and Emily had felt decidedly more vulnerable in that situation, but both girls had surprised her based sole-y on their emotional reaction.
Under the firm, unflinching reaction still seemed to be an underlining of curiosity, which was in itself interesting to Emily.
The other girl however, was a bitch. She was smiling and talking to her friends, and radiating negative emotions like a typical high school girl. "You don't really need to worry about rumours around me, I sort of hate people." She was a tiny bit sarcastic, because there was a lot of truth in the statement, she didn't hate people necessarily, just most of them.
So far at least, she didn't hate Alice. In fact her lips spread into the first genuine smile since she'd been sitting in this room all day. "I'm assuming that's your power?" She shook her head in amusement. "What is it with bright hair and cool powers..." She muttered to herself, thinking of the other night.
Well, social interaction ho! "I'm an Empath, as a result I hate everyone and find more people repulse me than attract me, Gender's not really a factor there..." She'd dated at least one guy, and Kendra. "I also intern for Gemma in the offices, but don't worry I'll keep that last part secret."

It was weird going from not really having any close friends to quickly developing a close relationship with one. Emily wasn't sure if it was just pure co-incidence that she'd gotten attached to Skye and decided to break out of her anti-social rut a little bit recently, or if it was something about Skye that made it easier to do. Maybe it was a combination of factors, but she definitely wasn't used to the dynamic, or surges of positive emotions centred around her.
The whole ordeal was so strange. She chuckled a little. "Yeah well you were going for a full on style-change, I was more just looking to try something new" She added nervously, she definitely wasn't trying to fit in with Skye, more just using the other girl's makeover as an excuse to try something new.
Okay, now Emily was getting confused, and embarrassed. She was really glad when Skye awkwardly distracting herself from the mutually assured awkwardness because she moved over to a rack of jackets on the other side and was thankfully able to hide her face and hummed awkwardly instead of stammering a response outloud.
Dammit, she needed to compose herself. She pulled a jacket off one of the racks and pulled it on, moving to a mirror a little further away from Skye and concentrating on one of the angsty teenagers doing their christmas shopping. Yup, focus on that.
