The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He'd been on their trail for a while, Elias Dougray -"Protector" of the "Movement for Genetic Purity" and all-round scumbag was back. A police tip-off had warned them that he was in NYC again. For what? To "cleanse the streets of unnatural beings" or so they claimed. Their God-god given right apparently to wipe them out. Scum...not only for their disgusting theology but also for what they did.
The air had gone cold without the sun's warm blanket to keep it safe, secure. The gasps of Linely's breath were visible, like a chain smoker blowing out into the air. Slouched next to a red brick building, he kept one hand on his baton. Visibility was poor. Figures moved but quickly disappeared into the shadows. "Cat's Eye,do your thing" Linely radioed to his lieutenant.
LT. Tyler Forsyth smiled at this through his heavy equipment, his dark brown eyes gaining slit irises, "your eyes are my eyes boys"...Linely could see better with the aid of this power, the figures coming into view.
He and his MRC division were prepared for battle, full riot gear, armor jackets underneath plain clothes in the case of Linely and two others. Each plainclothes PD headed a group of 4 heavily equipped men. This was going to be a very big bust. Linely had the privilege of dealing with Dougray himself, after all, this was personal.
PD Jasmine Selby would take out the first cell, though she could do it on her own in honesty, particularly as this was a shoot to kill. Hopefully there wouldn't be so much paperwork to fill out after the last time they put her on one of these...Linely had more to think about than paperwork though.
The figures in the shadows had come into view, two women were walking down the street. One was obviously a mutant, her feathery, dinosaur like skin was plain for all to see. Linely cursed. So THIS was who they were going after. Bloody kids on social media, while this mutant and proud stuff was all in a good cause, they did realise that ANYONE could see it on the internet right? Fans and foes alike. At least his men were in position, carefully placed in concealed locations, with him on the lookout in plain clothes.
Then came the inevitable, 6 men appeared behind them. Muscular. Leather jackets. All with guns of assorting shapes. Linely was pretty sure none of the people about to have an altercation could see him. Dougray had suffered some heavy injuries in his life, so if he was there, Linely would have him.
Then, gunshots filled the air. Blood. Screaming cut off by a gargle. "Now!" Linely whispered loudly through his radio. More gunshots. Two at the back went down in the hail. Linely moved quickly yet carefully. Displaying his baton clearly. The women had both been grabbed from behind, the dinosaur lady now being dragged out of the street towards...a black van...what a cliche! More gunshots. One more went down.
There was Dougray. He had grabbed the other women in a choke hold. Time to act. Linely lept from his concealed position. He aimed for Dougray's gaunt face as he tried to bring the baton down as hard as he could on the anti-Mutant.
"Good, but we need you to get to a hospital quickly" He looked more bashed up than when he'd first got in, and some blood had got into the car. Fortunately Linely wasn't too possessive of it. "Don't worry about the mess James, I think that's understandable given your condition". There wasn't much he could do to assuage James' pain, sadly.
Linely got back into the car and started the engine, making sure his safety belt was on. If the guy predicted another accident, he didn't want to go flying into the windshield. Back went on the Sirens and lights, they passed by many houses and junctions.
Then they came to the hospital, a tall grey building , now lit up for the night, they weren't the only vehicle coming in with sirens a blazing. The building looked almost pretty in a certain kind of way, even though it was a place where less than glamorous things happened. It was also expensive. Still-as this fellow was a witness it was in the polices' interests to pay for a certain amount of his healthcare (they couldn't afford all of it.
The hospital car park was reasonably quiet , and so they had little difficulty finding a car parking space. "Time to get you seen to by a doctor." He spoke calmly, opening the driver side door and closing it behind him.
So this was a simple case of getting in between the two swearing drivers. "Come on guys, time for you to cool it down, it's a dark night, and bad things happen..I may have to arrest you if you don't calm down"...the two men were in standard suits, looked like night-shift workers. He made sure to flash his badge at them so as to make things clear.
The two guys were pretty cross with one another, but they calmed down nicely after that. "Which one of you was driving the Cadillac?" the man responsible put up his hand. "Right, you are getting a formal warning, and a ticket" he promptly wrote the fellow the appropriate documents, and gave it to him. He didn't have time for this.
"This is PD Linely, send a traffic officer to junction 8E...we have two write offs here", Linely promptly got back in the car. "You alright there James? We need to get you to the hospital..so I'm not waiting around to meet my fellow officers".
((OOC, this is a continuation from the Thread Well, Now What)
Linely smiled at Rachel's acceptance of his offer and left her with Helen hoping that she was able to get on with it . "She's yours to assign tasks to for as long as you need, have any problems, tell her to come to my desk". Needless to say, there was a lot of work to be done. Coming to his desk, it looked as if things were not going to get any easier. There were a few individuals that would need interrogating, particularly in relation to why they were causing peaceful protests to erupt in violence...no rest for the wicked.
At least he wasn't assigned to any protests or patrols this time, just interrogation. Normally describing the type of mutation he had was enough to make most talk.Nobody liked to be reminded of a childhood accident that they had long since forgotten. Other times it was simply taking witness statements, which was fine as well.
This was , fortunately, a day where he would be able to spend more time with Rachael, training her in a bit of self defense, and having one of the Vanilla humans go through the merits of guns with her. Goodness knows he couldn't shoot.
His first interrogation suspect was involved in a robbery, a guy named Billy Rine, his rap-sheet showed all. Multiple convictions for various assaults and muggings, this would be simply a case of asking for a confession. Apparently he had an X-Gene as well....though the officer processing it had not bothered to tell him what...boy this was going to be fun.
"Interrogation room 1" read the bronze plaque next to the room he was to enter in order to speak to Rine. Linely made sure to keep his batton handy. If this guy decided to do what some mutants did, he might need it. The last thing they needed was a rogue mutant going on rampage here. He tenatively opened the door..Mr Rine's poorly kept black goatee pointed towards him. "You know the score here Billy, sign the confession, and this will all be over" "Not on your..." Rine spoke in a manner that made Linely glad that he hadn't brought Rachel in with him. Linely quietly shut the door behind him. He smiled quite widely at the suspect. Pretending to be some kind of psycho with a mutation was fun (otherwise known as "Bad Cop") , though unless the guy actually attacked him, he wouldn't be reminding him of it any time soon. "Let's get down to business then...shall we?"
So this guy had an ability to predict the future by doing lots of calculations? No wonder it was difficult to talk to him. Cognitive abilities were often difficult for young mutants, and this guy seemed not to have a full grip on his powers yet. The man looked worried, seemingly scared of the traffic-it was mostly fine...
>>"Sir, please stop the car..Miss that junction, don't go near it"
PD Linely jammed on his breaks. The car screeched to a halt just as blue Cadillac in that junction started drifting into the wrong lane...everything started happening in slow motion as a mint-green Honda ploughed into the back of the Cadillac at high speed. The two cars entered a rapid spin, quickly roaring through the Police car would have been if Linely hadn't been wise enough to stop. Then...the cars hit concrete , grinding to a halt, small amounts of debris flying...
The dust cleared. Looked like the drivers were OK, they were out of their vehicles. Arguing with one another and one swearing profusely."I'm going to have to take witness statements James. Well done, if we had been caught up in that I daresay we'd have been a lot worse for ware."
"I am, but I'm one of the good ones, so you don't need to worry. Pain is a tool, much like any other. It's no more different to firing a taser...most of the time..." there was that one time when it hadn't been so simple, and the police had recruited him. But James didn't need to know that.
"Are you a mutant then? " Perhaps that would explain the weird mannerisms coming from him. Sometimes mutants with weird cognitive abilities had difficulty with socialising...the wave of closing curtains as he passed through the street reminded Linely of where he was. He locked the doors "Car-jackers aren't uncommon, and we're not going to stop for red lights here." As he said this, he activated the siren and lights. That would get him some way to dealing with any traffic that might come up.
Fire and ice, in unison blew out from between the two mutants positions, an almost beautiful sight , as the ice melted and created steam, followed by a rush of yellow flame. It was inches away from Linely, he could feel the heat flash...and then subside. He carefully peered from behind the column.
The man was lying there...not dead but for the time being unconscious, his demonic form slowly transforming back into human. "Sam , are you alright?" He hoped to God that he was, this was more than he'd expected on just a typical bust. He walked out from behind the pillar, and headed where he thought he'd seen Sam roll behind.
"I agree with you there, but really, well done, it takes a lot to fight in a situation like that. To the precinct then." His fellow officers were already coming to pick up the low life, none of them were in a fit shape to resist arrest.
The precinct was busy, unsurprising given the time of day, a few members gave a hat tip, the occasional obvious mutant gave a hat tip with a "Morning Linely". The receptionist didn't look too overworked. Thank goodness. He walked up to the lady, she was younger than him (not by much), with Auburn hair. "Morning Helen."
Helen Day, the receptionist, was quickly moving through her papers, a mutant blessed with fantastic observational abilities, she could process information quickly, also handled a rifle well as he recalled...they needed people like her helping the MRC, and without her, he knew that the force would be even more overwhelmed than it already was. Her hazel eyes quickly looked up at him. Then at his companion.
"Morning Linely, who's your young friend?" "She's a new intern for the MRC, thought you could use a bit more help with the paperwork" The look of relief on Helen's face was visible, she was overworked, even for someone with her capabilities. "Great, I'll be happy to show her the ropes, what's your name dear?" Linely smiled back at Rachel. "Are you happy to be left with Helen?"
This guy wasn't much of a conversationalist, not really surprising given how shaken up he was. "This is PD Linely, have a couple of individuals that you need to pick up, they should be out cold for a while." He spoke into his radio. The affirmative came through "I'll be taking one conscious victim to the Hospital, my car isn't far away".7
He gestured to James to follow him, as he led him out of the alleyway and into the street. His car was your standard police car, fortunately he didn't have to drive that much, even as a PD, New York was relatively pedestrianised, but for a little emergency case like this, it would be needed.
He walked to his car "Get in the front" , and quickly opened the door for his passenger, hoping the man wouldn't be too bashed up so he could understand and be questioned once he recovered.
Linely cursed under his breath as the ice started to melt around the user. Backing up, he saw the full transformation of the user. He could see the flames appearing around the hands, the head growing horns and the skin turning a sickly red. The hands had grown claw-like finger nails, overgrown and jaundiced. The eyes now had a slit iris...Lineley's eyes widened at this slightly. But he stood firm
Fortunately Linely did not fear the devil, the cool touch of the cross under his uniform reminded him of the sacrifice, and how there was only one judge. It was time to go as nuclear as possible on this individual.
((OOC Category 10 pain attack allowance used 9/20) He reached out his mind towards the demon-there was pain here. Needless to say, this man had felt pain before, whole body and utterly crippling. Spasm brought it as quickly to the surface as possible, whilst aiming to keep a safe distance from the user. Pain rippled through his own body , but he was used to doing this kind of thing.
The demonic man roared with anger as every one of his nerves twitched with agony. He was still standing though. He was clearly made more sluggish and weakened by it , but it looked like he was going to launch a further attack "Sam, I think that did something, would have been enough to knock out most mutants..." he trailed off as a large gout of emerald flame shot from the "M" users hands and nearly hit his shoulder.
The demon man was looking at both of the mutants now , it looked like he was going to throw up...gas, it smelt like the stuff you would get from a Kitchen pipe, began issuing from his mouth..."oh" Linely swore colorfully at this.
"Sam, he's gonna blow!" Linely did a quick forward roll behind an airport pillar , bracing himself for an explosion of significant magnitude...at least his fellow cops had got away safely.
It was impressive to watch her follow his instructions , as she loosened the grip of her attacker and struck him on the face. As the man bent over, Linely tried to cuff him. He resisted. "Bad move friend" , he struck the man on the back hard with his baton, causing his face to impact with the floor. Cuffing him behind his back was easier then. Linely then turned his attention to the rather pale (even for a green mutant) and shaken girl.
"You did brilliantly, and nah, these guys don't look like they were part of any specific people out to get me, just some random low-lifes that thought they'd try it on because there were more of them and one of us was a 15 year old girl. Are you hurt?" She seemed pretty shaken up, doubtless this had been the first time she had been attacked in a real life situation. "And here we have an important first lesson, grips can be used either way, like a crocodile, if they grab hold of you, don't struggle, grip them tighter and use it against them."
Now there was just the matter of picking up the first guy's Bowie knife, he was lucky he didn't fall on it actually...but Linely managed to pick it up from underneath the guy's arm. The man hadn't been cut...good , that would reduce the paperwork. "Now what's say you and I call for some back up and get these idiots in a cell" he smiled at Rachel as he said this. "We can get on with our actual jobs then."
"You need to go to the hospital" the man had been roughed up pretty badly. That was just a punch though...probably a mutant with some kind of strength ability. Unsurprisingly the man was flinching away from his hand quickly, after standing up with it. "You really shouldn't take short cuts at this time of night, fortunately I'm not that far away from the precinct, so we can take these two" pointing at the two unconscious people "to a cell for assault."
The man looked quite out of it, but was able to come up with a reply -so his name was James? "James, good to meet you, and no problem, it's part of what I do as an officer...one does wonder why they didn't just want money...and what they wanted" The mood darkened considerably "there are thugs around here James, and you need to bear that in mind"...looking at him now, James was only a few years younger than him...why then would he think walking in a dark alley like this was a good idea? "First let's get these guys to the precinct, then we're taking you to the Hospital."
So this was her first day? Oh boy, what a first day this was going to be. "Good to meet you as well Mellitus " Spasm said as she shook his hand. The powers that be were planning on giving him a new partner, that was going to be a mutant. If she was a mutant , he hoped that it was useful here.
Morrison was quick to give the briefing-"Time to remind these people about who controls the city here" he joked to Morrison, who almost smirked at this bad pun. He remembered a few times when Morrison's abilities had come in handy. It was going to be difficult, even so, to disable this many people quickly.
"You are under arrest" came the robotic voice behind him. He turned round and noticed the bot was pointing at him. Great...another one going rogue. "No robot he's with us..." came a surprised reply from the newbie. "You are also under arrest" came the reply from the robot.
"I fully comply with the police, " came Linely's reply, putting his hands above his head and instructing Mellitus with a look to do the same. This was not good, but he had no means of disabling this robot. Morrison or the newbie might be able to...he hoped.
Yeah-he was necessary personnel, necessary in the sense that without him this guy could do something utterly awful. He backed up slightly while the man of ice did his thing, encasing the prisoner in ice. The announcement came from the Tanoy.
"Will all customers and personnel please evacuate the Airport Immediately repeat..."
"Right, that makes sense Sam"-as the X man began pushing the man to the window Linely realised what he was doing. "Men, help us get the ice-encased prisoner to the window! As quickly as you can please", the ice was about as cool as sticking one's hand in a freezer, Sam would have to keep freezing him from time to time to maintain containment.
"We need a mutant containment team at the gate getting the new tarmac, send an adapted human. "That works on "M" infected people right?" he half shouted to the X man...then quietly said "sorry, I should use my inside voice" indeed the airport was eerily quiet as people had evacuated. They were getting there in terms of arriving at the window, nearly close enough to hurl the guy through it.
