The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Officer Morrison was her field training officer. He was tall, about 6'2", with a shock of blond hair and a jaw you could use to drive in nails. His mutation wasn't obvious. When you looked at him, you could see that one of his eyes was a shade of blue stronger than the other. Aside from that hint, you couldn't tell what he could do. Which was exactly how he liked it. She hadn't figured his mutation out yet. She could have asked him, but she figured if it was important enough to come up in a dire situation, he would make it known. She guessed it probably had something to do with enhanced targeting, but that was just a guess. Shin had something like that. It was a nice skill to have.
He met her the morning of her first day, dressed in your traditional police blues. Personally, she thought he would look good in a flowing blue overcoat... but that was neither here nor there.
Their mission that day hadn't been a glorious one. She had not signed on for MRC, so she didn't get pole vaulted into mutant-human conflict. At least, on that scale. No, Amelia had chosen to be a real cop, and real cops started low on the ladder. Parking tickets, speeding tickets... going to peace rallies to provide police coverage by standing in one place and looking professional. That was the sort of stuff you couldn't screw up while you were learning your way around the job.
The two of them were accompanied by a Metabot with golden armor, trimmed in black. He looked sleek. Sleeker than her in her police uniform. She'd have to adjust the fitting a little. Or grow into it. No. She would adjust it, she decided. No donuts needed for that.
The rally had started at noon. It was 12:30. Mutants were all over the area. They held signs with uplifting messages. Some had very visible mutations. They had set this up legally, making use of a public building and the street outside. They had their permit. Everything had been going swimmingly... until someone threw a brick into the crowd.
Suddenly, humans and mutants were fighting in the crowd. There were as many of each. Amelia looked to field training officer Morrison. "I think we may need backup." She said. That was what you did in situations such as these. You didn't launch yourself into the crowd and start fighting both sides to make with the peace. You weren't an X-man. At most, you might try and calm them all with your presence... and if put in danger, use non-lethal means of self defense. Or your sidearm... but only if your life really was threatened. And that was up to each officer to make the call.
Morrison nodded. He radioed for backup quickly. And then he stepped forward to try and calm the crowd with his megaphone. The Metabot scanned the crowd, trying to decide the best course of action in the situation. Amelia stood by her man and looked serious enough for the two of them. These people needed to stop fighting, or else she would make them stop. Okay. She wouldn't make them stop in a way that made her look bad.
One mutant sent a brick sailing through a window with telekinesis. The shattering glass made her wince.
Well this was a slow day, most of the protests had been assigned officers, so Linely was walking through NY, keeping an eye out for any further trouble. So far-not much, the occasional parking ticket offence that he as an MRC detective, couldn't give. At least he was in plainclothes so didn't have to worry about giving directions. 12:30.
Then suddenly call for backup-apparently there was a large crowd fighting and one of the senior officers needed some serious help. They needed more than just Linely, but he would answer the call. "This is PD Joseph Linely-MRC, I am coming-how bad is it?" "Very. Come to location ASAP"-came the reply. "Copy" He replied, this probably meant a full blown riot.
He dashed to the location. Protests were always in roughly the same place, but this one had been predicted to be quite peaceful. Oh boy, mutants and humans fighting everywhere, this was going to be nasty. Fortunately he wasn't in the midst of it and was coming in from behind the two officers (one shouting on a Megaphone) and a META bot-he had to admit, they did look kinda cool, even if they were going rogue.
"PD Linely-MRC" He shouted as he dashed straight to the officers-displaying his badge clearly so the META bot wouldn't misconstrue his intentions. As he got within talking distance, he stopped.
"Boy, you have your hands full don't you? , who am I working with here?" He recognized Officer Morrison of course, a solid field training officer and useful mutation if ever there was one. He didn't recognize the woman, with her dark brown hair and short stature. She was probably a trainee. He offered his hand to greet her.
"Officer Mellitus," Amelia said, returning the hand shake. "First day. Good to meet you, Linely." She quickly committed the name to memory. Making good connections is important with any job. You especially want to get along with co-workers. If she ever worked with MRC, she would know another face in the crowd.
Morrison took over. "Someone threw a brick into the crowd, and the fighting broke out. We need to stop them, get medical attention to anyone who needs it, and locate the perpetrators."
With how many people were fighting, it'd be difficult to arrest every individual. They needed to contain this situation. And the first step would have to be--
"You. Are. Under. Arrest." A mechanical voice chirped.
"Huh?" Amelia turned towards the sound of the voice. The metabot was pointing straight at Linely. Why was the Metabot pointing straight at Linely? "No, robot. He's with us. He isn't--"
"You are also under arrest." The tin can beeped. At her. It was pointing at her now. This hardly seemed real.
So this was her first day? Oh boy, what a first day this was going to be. "Good to meet you as well Mellitus " Spasm said as she shook his hand. The powers that be were planning on giving him a new partner, that was going to be a mutant. If she was a mutant , he hoped that it was useful here.
Morrison was quick to give the briefing-"Time to remind these people about who controls the city here" he joked to Morrison, who almost smirked at this bad pun. He remembered a few times when Morrison's abilities had come in handy. It was going to be difficult, even so, to disable this many people quickly.
"You are under arrest" came the robotic voice behind him. He turned round and noticed the bot was pointing at him. Great...another one going rogue. "No robot he's with us..." came a surprised reply from the newbie. "You are also under arrest" came the reply from the robot.
"I fully comply with the police, " came Linely's reply, putting his hands above his head and instructing Mellitus with a look to do the same. This was not good, but he had no means of disabling this robot. Morrison or the newbie might be able to...he hoped.
Oh boy. This situation stunk to high hell, and there was nothing they could do about it. The people were rioting, the robot wanted to arrest two of them, and they were already severely outnumbered and in need of help calming the crowd. The worst part was that even if she did attack the robot, her power wasn't geared towards that end of the spectrum. She could theoretically lay the hurt down on flesh and bone with the right setup, but metal and gears? Amelia couldn't easily break that.
The other officer wanted them to go with it. Breaking city property like a metabot wasn't something cops went around doing willingly. He... Wanted to let it arrest them. In situations like this, Amelia was glad she planned ahead.
It hadn't been specified, but in addition to the police uniform, she was wearing leather gloves and shoes. Those would come in handy shortly.
Amelia turned her back towards the robot and placed her hands behind her head. She bent the knee. "I am under arrest." She agreed. The robot beeped what she thought sounded like an incredibly pleased beep. She glanced at Linely. "Follow my lead." Amelia said under her breath.
The second there was an opening, she would do something. For now, she focused on pushing up see through constructs around her feet within the safety of her shoes. The constructs wrapped her feet in a thin layer. The better to help her remove her shoes with when the time came.
Morrison was cursing in his head but outwardly, he was cool. He turned away from them and said "I'll handle the crowd until you both get this sorted out." Then he put all his focus on calming the situation. He shouted orders. He took charge.
Amelia got handcuffed by a robot on her first day as a cop. Joy!
The robot had handcuffed them both... that was just great. It was good to see that the newbie could obey orders though, even if this was an extreme situation. The tin can beeped further in an almost sickly-sweet tone "Follow me to the police station citizen, where you will be interviewed by officers, thank you for your compliance." Whoever programmed these machines had an odd sense of humor that was for sure.
It seemed Mellitus was planning something , hopefully the META Bot wouldn't notice that whisper. Linely nodded his head carefully in the affirmative to let her know he understood the situation. It was such a shame robots didn't feel pain. That was why he needed a partner, even being able to bring most humans and mutants down with a look wasn't sufficient for certain situations.
Morrison was cursing under his breath and cursing. This was the last thing he needed. His powers were limited in dealing with large crowds, but the uniform helped somewhat with that. "It's alright Morrison, you've got this, we'll be with you when this mix-up is dealt with". PD Rustbucket was now leading them away , keeping a watchful eye to make sure they didn't try and run. This day was going great.
The moment came when they hit the stairs that lead down off the stage. Easy as walking through water, she stepped out of her shoes. One shoe came off at a time, casually, not drawing attention. They stayed on the steps. She had used her powers and her mind to help force them off. And so they stayed, past Linely's walking down the steps (he probably just stepped over or around), all the way until the robot stepped down. And then, the shoes pounced.
One thing they teach you in Aikido is how to put an opponent off-balance. Aikido is about using an opponent's movement and power against them. While it wasn't likely Amelia could have knocked the robot over through main force, tripping him... well, tripping him was another matter.
Metal groaned at the robot hit the ground loudly. They don't teach robots to fall nice. In socks, Amelia turned. Her hands were still pinned behind her back, so she directed her shoes by moving her feet. Kick, kick, kick, she'd probably get in trouble. But she kicked the eye lights in. And then, her shoes fell abandoned, and she turned towards Linely.
"Turn around so I can get at your cuffs!" She said urgently. "Before he gets back up!" Her gloves slipped off her hands. A construct was sheathed in each one. They floated in the air, leather gloves hovering as if filled by ghost hands. She was going to handcuff the robot where he lay.
Walking off the stage was a relatively simple task. Though bizarrely it seemed that Mellitus had taken off her shoes. Linely walked carefully round these shoes, wondering if this was something to do with the junior police officer's powers. Still he walked carefully towards the now barefoot Mellitus.
He soon found out what Mellitus' deal was with taking off her footwear. He heard a loud crash as the META Bot crashed down to the floor, Linely jumped at this, clearly he needed to wear those kind of shoes more often!
>> "Turn around so I can get at your cuffs!" He didn't pause in following her command, now she'd done this the robot would be very keen on using lethal force, and obviously they didn't want that. He turned round and prayed that Mellitus was able to do things in time with PD Rustbucket, otherwise they were all in trouble. The main risk of course was the robot calling for backup....
Gloves controlled by psychic hands moved to nab the cuffs off from Linely's back belt, where they hung. Police didn't always use metal cuffs these days, what with zip-ties being so incredibly inexpensive and efficient, but she was glad he was a traditionalist. The leather gloves manipulated the cuffs to snap them in place around the Meta-bot's hands, which had conveniently fallen behind its back when it fell. One glove shoved an arm to make it closer. The cuffs locked into place with a ratcheting click. As she had done all this, her fingers and hands behind her back had been wiggling, mentally directing the motion of the gloves from afar, like a mirrored puppet. Her hand did one thing. The gloves did likewise.
The robot did not appreciate being handcuffed. It was entirely possible it would call for reinforcements. It was entirely possible its metal man strength was enough to snap the cuffs and break free... which was why she had focused on cuffing it in a way that it wouldn't have the mobility or leverage to do so. And also why, after it had been cuffed, she quickly moved her gloves to blindly snag some zip-ties from her pocket, and zip-tied the arms two times, connecting metal bits to metal bits to further prevent just that. It was certainly nice the robot had not electrocuted her, or done anything to impede her job.
With its flickering vision, the robot was uncertain how to react. Lethal force was good, but it was not standing. And how would it get to its feet and aim its arms when they were behind its back? It was in a situation for which it really had not been programmed for. Which meant it may just need help. But the fall had jarred something in its head. You would have thought this particular model had been built better. But then, good models don't malfunction like it had.
Linely could only watch as Mellitus handcuffed the robot with his old reliable metal handcuffs. He was every inch the traditionalist in that respect. What was the point with handcuffs if your average mutant could break them? Linely's cuffs were made of sturdier stuff than most, being designed not for the comfort of the wearer in mind but entirely upon restraint. It often gave him some pain to work with if they tried to run.
The robot was now on the floor, giving a few jolts as its system began to fail. "Backup, Backup" it began to call down its in built radio, in a distorted version of the sickly sweet voice it had used earlier. Linely bent down towards it and made sure he showed the badge
"PD Linely MRC-Your backup has arrived." The robot ceased to moan as much as the light in its eyes faded "commencing shutdown proced... " it whined, and then was entirely silent. Good. That was nearly a very close shave indeed.
"Very good job Mellitus" Linely said, smiling "I must admit you saved us a lot of time with that quick thinking. So you can make shoes and gloves do stuff huh?" It might've been more than that, but Linely was sure he had that potential partner in the MRC the sergeant was so keen on him getting.
"Now, we just have an angry mob to deal with"...Linely half gestured towards the crowd , which was still fighting, bricks were being thrown, mutations being used. Linely hoped that what he had just seen wasn't Mellitus' only trick.
>>"I must admit you saved us a lot of time with that quick thinking. So you can make shoes and gloves do stuff huh?"
"Basically." She said. Before she had time to add more to that statement, Linely continued talking. Now came the hard part. With the robot down and pacified, that left the situation they had been called to deal with. Riots. An angry mob. Amelia grunted.
"Yeah." She said. Since they had a moment, she summarized. "I can make psychic constructs that can control and manipulate clothing. Line of sight. Max of two. If you have a power, now is a good time to tell me about it. So we can have each others backs. Speaking of." They were still handcuffed, which really was an inconvenience. Amelia turned her attention quickly to controlling the gloves to retrieve handcuff keys. It took a little bit of work. It was easier to listen and focus on freeing Linely, so she did that.
Once Linely was free from the cuffs, he could uncuff her. Then, they could help with the situation.
Linely uncuffed Mellitus as quickly as he could, the key didn't get stuck in the lock, he was glad that at least that part of the robot wasn't malfunctioning. Getting arrested was not normally part of the police's job description, and Linely was glad that was over.
He decided to give her the short version of his mutation."Most MRC officers do have a mutation of some sort, adapteds are also common, as for me I force people's nervous systems to undergo previous trauma, Max 3 people, and it tends to be pretty crippling. I can also cause others to feel nervous trauma that I currently undergo. Not much use against a full crowd of people I'm afraid."
He smiled then, this was going to be a challenge to them both, then. "Against small groups and individuals though it's really effective." Morrison would also help with his fire support , but they wouldn't be able to end a riot easily all on their own. "If there are any major trouble makers I can take them out as a single target, basically" Linely said, there was always use for his powers practically in police situations.
There were dangerous mutations being used left right and centre, Molotov cocktails. Bricks. Glass was breaking, creating a huge whirlwind of sound, cries from the wounded for help that would get no answer, this was going to need far more than just three officers, but they could perhaps make some difference.
One minute, she was listening and taking note of his mutation and ho it could be used in their situation, the next, she was moving back to the front with her probationary officer and contemplating how she would use her own mutation to make a difference. It was messy. People everywhere, fighting. Power against nonpowered, power against power, and human against human, with every kind of weapon one could imagine. Someone had a broom they were using like a quarter staff. Casually, she placed an obstacle in their path to trip them up as they ran at someone, broom raised for a downward strike. It was the smallest movement, a flick of the wrist and a transparent blue hand caught the inside of a leg on the down step and pulled it off balance. The smallest movement, but it used the guys power against him and sent him tumbling long enough to allow his intended victim to run away from the conflict. And she didn't even break a sweat, or miss a step. She did it without taking her eyes off Morrison as they rejoined him. It was just a quick mental distraction. And then the construct vanished. She addressed Morrison.
"We handled it. Now we need to handle this." Morrison listened, and nodded.
"I've already radioed for backup. We need to defuse the situation while we wait on them to get here. Id break us up to each take one part of the crowd, but." He smirked confidently for one brief moment,t then his mouth stretched seriously again. "I think we're stronger grouped up. If I remember your power from your file, Linely." He briefly recited a summary. Waited for acknowledgedement, and moved on. "You'll be good targeting the worst troublemakers." The inciters. "Mellitus, follow our leads."
She wasn't cocky enough to scoff at that. She merely nodded. Morrison walked towards the crowd. It was time to lead.
From the start, there were a few clear leaders in the rabble. One was throwing molotovs. He was near enough to Linely for him to catch the mans eye. Morrison was speaking into a loudspeaker, calling for people to calmly leave the area and cease fighting. This was a peace rally, not a brawl. Amelia focused, and slipped the leather gloves off her hands. They filled with psychic energy, a solid object possessed by a "ghost." They floated ready in front of her, waiting to be used. Her hands were up, as she concentrated on them and everything else.
>> "If I remember your power from your file Linely"
"You'd be right there Morrison, so long as the main trouble makers have felt some pain I can make use of that. How long until backup arrives?" There was one of the leaders, preparing another Molotov cocktail to throw at a nearby building. Why did they even bother destroying their own neighborhoods? It only meant that they'd have to live with it after the violence had died down. He was close enough that Linely could look him in the eyes, while that wasn't necessary for Linely to use his power, he was feeling trigger happy.
Among the protesters, it would be hard for individuals to notice a relatively inconspicous power such as Linely's , the Officer would have a noticeable look of concentration if someone bothered to observe. Linely found a sufficient pain in the Molotov throwing man's past to make him pass out, and forced the man to relive it. The man went pale and collapsed just as he was about to light that next Molotov. The bottle flew out of his hand as he fell, shattering some distance away. They got lucky that time. The mob noticed the collapse of the man. some dispersed others continued fighting.
Then came trouble, what looked like a man with overgrown muscles was tearing his way through the crowd, batting people away like flies, making a B Line for their position. He had a rather crazed expression on his face. Linely reached out, but found little pain to speak of. Fortunately the figure wasn't nude, so... "Mellitus, 6 O'clock, big mutant-might be "M" -it wasn't uncommon for riots to include the use of "M" nowadays, some people got a cheap thrill from destroying others property with newly found powers. The sooner that was put a stop to the better.
>>"You'd be right there Morrison, so long as the main trouble makers have felt some pain I can make use of that. How long until backup arrives?"
As Linely asked the question, Morrison glanced towards the crowd. He caught sight of the molotov thrower, saw him fall, and nodded slightly, then answered the question. "Backup is 20 minutes out, but with this traffic from this crowd, it may be a little longer." The protest would make parking problematic. Police didn't always have to follow the rules when it came to parking, but the further away they parked, the farther they'd have to walk. "If we need SWAT to handle the riot, it'll be longer." He added. "I haven't made the judgement call just yet."
Morrison was bold. He felt they could handle it with just a little backup. Arrest the troublemakers, and the crowd would disperse. A man with huge muscles was approaching, and he filed him under 'troublemaker'. Linely spoke to Mellitus, and she reacted, raising her arms in front of her and thrusting them out. They levitating gloves flew forwards, and down... her body dropped as she leaned forward, then brought her right hand up in an uppercut that hit below the belt. She followed it with a open palm shove. There was plenty of distance between her and the man, but the gloves followed through, mimicking the motion. He was hit in the groin, and stumbled back just enough for the open hand shove to push him backwards and make him lose his balance. With big strong opponents, you look for whatever weak points they have. And he was male. So. She didn't hold back. Even so, it felt like she had punched a brick wall. Amelia rubbed at her right fist gingerly, and looked to Linely.
"Replicate that pain. Do it enough, and he'll probably stay down." Her lips were a thin line, her voice cold.
