The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

PM'd you at possible Judgement Day involvement. They're capable of being more subtle than what I've suggested in the PM. They like using non-mutant criminal proxies so it would make sense.
The insults bounced off him, clearly trying to evade the whole "not having a licence thing" , they didn't shock him at all. This woman was in an obnoxious mood. " Have it your way then, You are under arrest under the suspicion of carrying a gun without proper permit in NYC, for evading arrest and for wasting police time"
It was probably best that she didn't even get given the time of day, and thus he looked down at his belt, and drew his baton and cuffs. He quickly tried to get behind her and cuff her, if she evaded arrest, he would knock her out , that was a simple, easy way of doing things. He hated people like this.
Gosh it had been a long day indeed, and Linely was in need of a nice, peaceful drink. However, there was little time for that, and of all things, he had been assigned to watch a bar. A mutant friendly bar of all places, but apparently there was some wrongdoing going on in bars around the city, some scumbag of a guy spiking girl's drinks... they were waking with pounding headaches and no memory of what happened the night before. But they were always talking to the same, smooth-talking guy who had so kindly offered to watch their drink for them when they had to do something. Apparently for two of the woman, they didn't understand why they had trusted him. They just did. That was where the MRC came in.
He was going in plain clothes this time, Linely was not stupid enough to try and arouse suspicion if the guy actually turned up at this bar. In fairness to this particular nightclub, it hadn't been targeted by this guy yet. If he didn't , then it was just an excuse to have a drink and go home. If he did , then he could have a drink, arrest a scumbag, and then go home.
There was the bouncer, he managed to discreetly pass a note to the fellow, a cooperative man was "Roadie" who had helped deal with a few individuals who had one to many to drink and had got violent.
"Almost didn't recognise you without the uniform there Linely." Damn. If the spiker was around then that might have been his cover blown, still, "Roadie" hadn't said it too loudly, and at the moment the crowd of young women was surrounding the two of them, the closest being distinctly ...blue... literally.
"Well I thought I'd pay a visit, it's been a rough day" He passed a note to Roadie, with a bit of money surrounding it. Linely was on duty, and needed to get in, and he needed to make sure that Roadie knew that, just in case this turned into a chase. Still, it was more than likely that he would just be drinking, rather than actually catching someone. They had far better eyes watching the most often targeted bars.
Linely avoided the large crowd of dancers, instead heading to the "Library" area (he only knew about that from what some slurred-speech drunkard had said one night , that would likely be where any trouble was going to be. The music was too loud for his taste, but at least the bar seemed relatively quiet.
There were a few free seats, Linely noticed an objectively attractive looking man talking to what looked to be an anthropomorphic shrimp. Each to their own... Linely wasn't personally interested in that kind of stuff, while he found certain women aesthetically pleasing, he was in no position to get married yet. Still Linely resolved to take a seat next to this fellow, for all he knew it could be the man they were looking for.
He calmly walked up to the bar, confidently took a seat, and asked the graceful, rather good looking bartender for a drink. "A single-malt whiskey please". Perfect for what he needed, its smell would be on his breath, adding to the effect of his charade. Linely made sure his speech sounded slurred , but not overly so, enough to give a perception of slight intoxication, but not enough to make it seem like he'd had too much.
He turned to the young man who was deep in conversation with the Shrimp. "Hello there, what do you think of the club?" He spoke in the same slurred tone as before, before taking a slight sip of the whiskey. He loved acting drunk-really threw potential criminals off guard when the true nature of his position came to light.
She was going to try that one was she? Well Linely wasn't having any of it, those boys had apparently been very, very scared. He wasn't going to take no for an answer. Still, best to give her some benefit of the doubt. He was impressed at how quickly she avoided his grip.
"Fine, show me your permit, and we'll say no more about that, I might even help find your phone, if you agree to come with me for questioning once we've found the bloody thing, the police station is apparently a gym...if that interests you. But I'm adding avoiding arrest to the rap sheet if you don't produce your permit. I needn't say that if you have mutations, using them on an officer of the law is an offence punishable by a long time in prison. " He'd almost forgotten to mention that right, this woman didn't look like a mutant, just an obnoxious overgrown child who was playing games that were too young for her. Still , that had been added to the rights reading, and he needed to mention it.
If this worked, he would be able to have a nap afterwards and get the rest of his paperwork done. The kids would need a telling off if the police could find them. There were ways of tracing phones, particularly as Pokemon GO! made you turn on your location... All of a sudden he loved Pokemon GO!
"Thank you Rachael" Linely greedily devoured the hot-dog he just purchased. The street was now full of shoppers, perfect for your average pick-pocket or purse-snatcher to strike... fortunately his lunch break was not about to be interrupted by some low-life causing trouble. He had to tell a few people to pick up their litter though.
It was a simple job of waiting for Rachael and hoping that no further incidents were going to happen. He had long since lost sight of her , as she had moved from shop to shop. He did hope her raggedy dress didn't make anyone suspicious of how a teenager got that much money...
He continued pacing, waiting for her to appear. She finally emerged and sat herself down by a tree, and no-one was chasing after her...that was a plus. Linely smiled, and walked towards her calmly. She was looking far more presentable, and rather refreshed from having a better set of clothing. All good stuff.
"Are you ready to go Rachael, we have to be back to the station very soon" he said to the sitting green teenager, who was positively thriving in the glorious sunshine. Linely could tell that she was in her environment around trees too. It was somehow... fitting for her.
"You do realise that carrying a gun as a non-police officer in NYC is an offence right? You've technically just pleaded guilty to an offence. To a cop." Linely was almost satisfied at this idea, it sorted out the problem very easily. "Your phone qualifies as evidence so I suppose we can find it later." Forsyth would love to use his cat's eyes to do that Linely thought, smirking slightly."But I'm afraid it's time for Valor to take control of your gym. You've become as common as a pidgey" The boys she scared had given more information to the police about Pokemon GO! That Linely even cared to know.
"You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say can and will be used in a court of law" He read the woman her rights nigh mechanically, quickly attempting to grap hold of her arm and attempting to handcuff her. At least this was a quick case , if she tried anything, Linely was sure he could take her on.
So due to the Ambrose and Spasm thread , I got some ideas for a faction that is basically an awful villains faction. It bases itself strongly around Biblical allusions (though I must emphasise it's Revelation, and the characters are not Christians or even Christian cult type.) They are sort of a rival to Ragnorok but far more extreme in their outlook. The powers I've given them are quite dark I will concede. So here goes
Faction Name: Judgement Day Faction Leader: "The Fifth Horseman" -No,one knows the actual name of this leader, and they'll make an entrance with plot device. Reports confirm the leader is a mutant though.
Aims: These guys want to watch the world burn around them, sometimes literally ,but any kind of destruction will do at a pinch. They are vehemently opposed to Utopia as an attempt as they see it to bring peace to mutants, and none of humanity or mutant-kind deserve any kind of protection. They have come to NYC purely to destroy and murder as many people as they possibly can. They see humanity as a scourge on the earth that deserves nothing but death, non-mutants first, but eventually the whole stinking species. They themselves will burn with the world. They will come , and hell will follow with them.
Activities: Mainly organised mutant related crime, murdering Ragnorok members if they can get their hands on them, "M" traffiking in order to cause as much mayhem as possible. Destruction for the sake of destruction.
Membership: 5 +goons They are very small in terms of actual members, but they have a number of hired goons and blackmailed lackeys that they use to carry out these things.
The Four Horsemen: The four elite assassins of Judgement day , basically powerful mutants that could easily lay waste to the city if their powers were combined and if they were not stopped.
War: A Man that looks somewhat like the classic stereotype of the British capitalist , dressing in a three piece suit, but avoiding the ostentatious monocle and hat that would make him too obvious (he used to wear one) . He releases pheromones that drive ordinary humans into violent rages against anybody and anything. He can turn this on and off, and has generally being laying low with his powers due to the understanding that his power is quite detectable when used too often.
Famine: A woman from Australia, who dresses in brightly colored dresses (she likes the color yellow), Famine produces a particularly nasty toxin that causes her victims' muscles to desiccate and atrophy horrifically, giving them the eventual appearance of being malnourished. Her victims often look like they starved to death. The poison is also corrosive, allowing her to use this on inorganic material, though the decay takes longer.
Pestilence: Elderly Russian man, dresses in slightly moth eaten woolen clothing. Mutation: shifts into a swarm of Siberian malarial mosquitoes, prefers this form to his human form and stays within it for weeks on end. Has to be killed in human form (unless you plan on using a lot of bug spray) , will often send single mosquitoes from his body to assassinate single targets. Currently residing peacefully in California, enjoying a well earned vacation.
Death: I'm going to consider the character of a bit more.
Always happy to have contributions/thoughts on this will edit this as I go along. My character himself will not be part of this organisation.
Spasm matched the X-Man's worried expression "We didn't know it was M until...that happened, we were expecting it to be something more conventional. We knew this guy was a drug mule, related to a string of messy overdoses." He turned the man over. There on his back made him more concerned.
Two were letters tattooed on the back of his neck. Black as night, and it was enough to identify who sent him. J and D , innocuous letters when normally put together like this, hey it was even the name of a popular Scrubs character if the officer remembered rightly. However this symbol was part of a far...far worse organisation. If their top group were coming to New York then this meant trouble. It also explained the demonic elements of this guys "M" mutation almost entirely.
"Judgement Day"-the bringers of the apocalypse , the self-described destroyers of worlds, the world would not be reborn, but burnt to a crisp and left to rot. Ragnorok at least had motivations, these guys just liked to kill.
"Sam, this is very, very, very bad" Spasm spoke in an extremely serious tone. "If you think the troubles with NYC aren't quite enough, how about a nihilistic mutant death cult to add to the mix?"
"Great" Linely led Rachael quietly out of the office after she sorted out putting a seat back where she found it. She seemed a little nervous in her demenour, unsurprising given the circumstances. Not that he was that concerned. Applying for asylum in the USA from Australia as a mutant wouldn't be too difficult for her, especially as she was an unaccompanied minor. Still, he needed to get her to the embassy at some point to make sure that was sorted out.
Then came a sigh of relief from her, the sun likely making her feel better as a plant-based mutant. She asked the way to the commercial district. To which Linely let out a minor chuckle at his own ignorance. Of course she wouldn't know the way quite yet.
"Simply a left here, then the shops start coming thick and fast." Linely spoke calmly and reassuringly. He hoped.
The people walking along the street became almost a crowd of busy shoppers or commuters on their way to work. Advertisements everywhere, a few beggars on the street-likely without permit. Linely chose not to bother with it-he had better things to do than fight the minor crime at this point in the day. It wasn't long before the smell of boiling sausage in water began to fill his nostrils...the stand was close.
Red and white canvass over a small trolly, with a simple sign in black writing. "Luigi's" was a family business from an Italian immigrant. Originally more of a pizza and pasta type eatery, but he and his son had branched out into American cuisine. He remembered the first time he came...sadly not a good time in their lives, it was to do with Luigi's mother. Bad news, though someone had to tell them.
"So what'll it be this time Joe?" Antonio (Luigi's son) greeted him, he'd lost weight since he'd seen him last. The diet Angelica had him on seemed to be working. "A hot dog, with extra ketchup" Linely smiled widely, particularly at the thought of his first good hot dog in ages. "Coming right up , anything for your young friend"? Antonio looked at Rachael, smiling in a classic shopkeeper's friendly fashion.
Driving to the Library was a relatively simple task, the traffic wasn't too bad, having the siren and lights was pretty easy going. The description was clear. A (relatively) tall Hispanic woman , with brown hair, with a hooked nose, who got really , really cross after a teen knocked a phone out of her hand.
There she was. Running back to the Library, without a phone in hand (well that was kinda surprising). Linely stopped the car as near as he could get to in front of her. Got out, and showed his badge. It was plainclothes today. He was in no mood to mess around with some minor dispute.
"Excuse me madam, but I have been called to the Library about an incident. Apparently a woman pulled a gun on a pair of teenage boys after an altercation relating to..." He trailed off with a fed-up sigh. His face betrayed his annoyance "...Pokemon GO!, you match that woman's description. I would like you to come with me. We can do this the nice way or the nasty way." If she had a gun, Linely didn't want to start a fight, maybe his British accent would charm her? Maybe? He kept one hand on his sheathed baton just in case.
Linely woke with a start. His pager was bleeping heavily in its typical overly cheery tune. Yeah, having it play La Cucaracha had been an absolutely hilarious prank by that teenage technopath. "Gee thanks Ben" Linely let out a strained mutter. That was the last time he was pulling an all-nighter in the office. Paperwork was boring. Protests were getting so commonplace Linely was questioning whether they should even bother to fill in reports anymore.
At least your average mutant terrorist or bird hunter allowed for him to say something other than "peaceful protest , no incidents" or "peaceful protest, minor violent disruption, officers used mutations, disruption dealt with." Still , it was time to answer whatever this pager was.
"Yeah, Linely here"-It was bloody 9am. He'd got 5 hours sleep at best.
"Wow, Linely you sound tired, sorry for calling you, but you're the only one not on assignment and..." a rather sympathetic sounding Officer Forsyth was on radio duty...poor guy.
"Yeah Tyler, just tell me what the call was". Forsyth told him. Linely half-sighed, half growled at the clock and slowly got up. Really? ****ing really? Didn't they have some junior officer to deal with this? Well, the woman did have a gun-so maybe it was necessary.
"I'm on my way" -honestly it was bad enough that Team Valor existed , let alone the number of times they'd had to saddle some poor Junior sap to diffuse the situation at school playgrounds.
He walked out of the office, got into his police car and put the siren and lights on. The constant flashing of blue and red only proceeded to make him more ticked off. Yeah it was official. When he ran for President someday-he would ban Pokemon GO!
"Yes, sit down." Linely took a small black rectangle from his pocket. He pressed a few buttons to make sure the recording device was working, great, he wouldn't have to replace the darned thing. Last thing they needed was something to go wrong for that, otherwise Mr Maxfield would have to make the statement again.
"Speak into the microphone and describe the incident that occured in your own words." They were going to bring in the two thugs with the rest of the line up soon. Linely had already pointed these guys out in a previous line-up , he only hoped James would pick out the right guys.
He hadn't meant to make her jump, still...he had that effect on people sometimes. A few people had compared him to a ghost at times, not through any special mutation, but just being rather quiet when he walked up to them. He found it moderately amusing in honesty , but didn't give any hint of this to Rachael. "Sorry, that happens a lot, should have given you a bit more forewarning."
The look of vague befuddlement upon Rachael's face when he was referring to T.S.Eliot was hardly surprising, but it was mildly disappointing. What were they teaching kids these days in Australia? To hate mutants of course... "I would not thought death had undone so many" the quote from the Wasteland sounded in his head. Still, it would be worth giving her some of the poetry to read, it was angsty enough for teenagers to enjoy.
She was grinning at the thought of shopping, now THERE was something that all teenage girls had in common. Particularly for a girl who looked like she hadn't had a fresh outfit in a while. Her excitement was honestly palpable.
>>"How long do we have for a lunch break anyway?"
"About three quarters of an hour-I'll be keeping my pager on just in case I'm needed back at base quickly" Linely stated, peering at his watch. Hopefully there wasn't going to be an actual attack on the precinct while they were gone, he'd rather not have to come back to that. Being attacked by thugs was more than enough excitement for one day. "Shall we be off then? Should take us about 5 mins to get to the commercial district, I'll buy myself a hot dog or something, so you have more time"
"Look Miss, I couldn't save your friend from them... they were using her as cover, my squad did their level best. They will really regret kidnapping her when they get her to the chapter house I can garuantee you that". Selby was perfectly capable of ripping them limb from limb , Linely would be happy if he kept one alive to arrest.
>>"L-Let's go"
She was clearly nervous, but they didn't have time to waste, the more officers were there, perhaps the less paperwork Linely would have to fill in by the end of this job. "We'll meet my squad at the car, you'll like them, all mutants, all pretty keen on removing the scum that took your friend from the face of the planet." He walked towards where the car was, fortunately whatever it was that this lady was breathing out was starting to dissipate, though it did remind Linely vaguely of swimming pools.
He just hoped that this "Tessa" was alright, this particular brand of supremacists were particularly nasty. They wouldn't kill her before they got to the chapter house. These were the types that liked to perform a sick ritual before they "executed" the "impure thing" in the most unpleasant way possible. It wouldn't come to that. Selby and her squad would manage it. He was sure of it.
"I will be helping your friend, we have been following this group for a while. I was hoping to save both of you before they drove off... sadly that didn't work. We know where they're taking her, we have a squad there already." Hopefully this would help with her distressed state Linely thought, Selby was very capable and would likely be creating absolute havoc. He lifted his radio to his mouth.
"Forsyth, Redman, Jenner, to the car, we need to get on that black Van's trail ASAP" "We've run the plate, registered to Dougray believe it or not, all police patrols are aware" Linely breathed a sigh of relief, this made things a little easier. Now he would be able to deal with this young lady without too many issues.
It was Samantha Redman replied who had to him , great stuff-she was always on the ball, doubtless the instructions were to block any by-roads that they could take, forcing them to go to their chapter base. If they tried to get to the person that tipped the MRC off, then the MRC were waiting there as well. Now about this civilian
"Do you want to come with us? We don't really have time to drop you off anywhere, Selby will probably need some help and I'm sure your mutation might be useful in a fight?" Selby wouldn't need much help bringing down the chapter, the question was having anyone left to arrest.
Dougray was dead, thank goodness. He deserved it thoroughly, particularly after what he had done to... Linely's trail of thought disappeared in a painful memory. At least she was still alive after that, others had been less lucky. One of the hardest cases he had been involved with. It's all withdrawn until they go after someone you... another trail lost ...the ambulences would be ready to take the corpses back in body bags soon. He turned back to the teenager and spoke as quickly as possible "right, so what'll it be?"
