The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Well that was good at least, her papers would eventually be signed, but she'd probably need more protection than just one police officer , considering how trouble almost always seemed to follow her. Linely lay back down at the ushering of the paramedic. It would be a short stay at the hospital that was for sure.
Upon hearing that the mutants had talked to her, and recognised her Linely's face turned serious. "The 'roach has people looking for you? Not really surprising, and it could be his cockroach minion thingys...I've heard about them, never actually seen them, we have a file on him". Yes, if you could call it a "him" in the first place, from what he gathered it was a very odd mutation. He'd been briefed to shoot any large than normal cockroach as quickly as possible, something told him an exterminator would probably make better protection.
"My advice is not to worry about it too much, but we are going to have to increase your protection, at least two officers with complementing mutations, if the X-Men can't supply you with sufficient escort. That's what I'd reccomend, no offense, but vanilla humans aren't going to be great against a powerful mutant like the 'roach." Linely wished he could sit up again, but he didn't want to upset the paramedics again.
"Officer Smith...I'm his senior in the police force , "kid" indeed!" In fairness Smith was twice Linely's age and was a good and effective officer. "I remember basically taking out a group of mutants, then there were two of you, and then I fainted, did I have double vision?"
He then thought for a moment and then nearly rushed to sitting up, "did you get your notaries signed off? You needed those." He spoke almost comically urgently, as though that had been the most serious thing of the day. In his mind it was though. A gunshot wound would heal , but not getting those signed in time would have a far more serious event.
The ambulance was still going, it wouldn't be long now before he reached the Hospital, and had a tonne of paperwork to fill in, including an accidents in the workplace report. He got shot. It qualified as an accident. You really couldn't make it up he thought, as his eyes widened with exasperation.
Gosh, the X-Men deserved their reputation for being good, and Were was no different, she had noticed the man had an obvious attraction to her. He had to admit, his comments about "Catherine" were not untrue in terms of her looks. She had a feline grace to her, even though Linely wasn't particularly interested in that kind of thing, at least not with anyone but...it wasn't important.
He was going to look forward to arresting this creep when they had gotten the information he needed out of him. The X-Men and Police force needed to be prepared as possible, so he'd probably be safer in prison once they were finished with him.
Paul came somewhat closer to Were, not invading her personal space...yet. "I like a woman who knows what she wants." he spoke in a tone that Linely assumed he thought was flirting. Linely rolled his eyes slightly, as if this was pretty common with "Catherine".
"We will have to have a higher price of course, given that supply of the drug is... limited. Simple capitalism you understand" Linely saw Paul's face barely acknowledge that, he was too busy staring at Were to give a damn what he was saying. This was going better than expected.
"Catherine will have a few questions about the person we're supplying, we need to make sure that we're not going to be traced. I'm sure you'll .... answer her questions." Linely hoped the X Man wasn't afraid of getting a little up close and personal with Paul, not too far of course, but honey traps were used by secret services for a reason.
"Generally those given counselling were given it because they could pose a serious threat, or were so blindingly obvious that they'd need to know how to handle the fact that they were mutants and people would treat them differently. You have to register dangerous mutations, and employers have a right to turn you down for a job if they feel your mutation could endanger their property or the lives of others." This was totally fair in Linely's eyes, while mutant pride was all very well, not everyone wanted people who could burn the building down accidentally near where they made their livelihoods. He had little trouble with it, but a few mutants did occasionally get turned away.
Linely was saddened by Rachael's defeatism on finding a use for her mutation. "I'm sure there's something enhanced endurance and healing would be useful for, and then of course there's power growth, you do realise you might not be at your full abilities yet? You're still young after all."
Then she rolled her eyes at his mention of God, what a surprise, teenagers..."You'd be surprised at how many puns are actually in the Bible...but I digress." He smiled again, Rachael would be OK once she got over this teenage angst phase, it would last a while though.
Linely gradually regained consciousness in an...ambulance, there were a pair of paramedics , who had bandaged his gunshot wound... This felt weird, he'd been shot before of course, but never had a shot hit him this bad, at least he could move the wounded arm, the bullet proof vest had done its job...sort of.
"S-Shelby?" He asked to the blurry background around him. Dear God , he hoped she was OK, she must have been worried sick. He hadn't bled out , he was OK, he could get her to have her notaries signed...he could barely remember what had happened. "Where are you Shelby?" He said again, hoping that she was there, no safer place than an ambulance at this point for her.
Linely let her take the bag and get the scent, it was sensible to do so, always good to be able to identify a "M" user from an ordinary mutant. They tended to be more erratic normally, but you always had to be on the look out for such things besides. She was perfect for this job, absolutely perfect.
She sniffed and spoke to him in a serious tone, sure she had every right to be confident with this mission, as any X Man would be, but Linely did have some concern that this confidence may be a sign of lack of experience? He hoped Sam had sent him someone that knew how to work with a team, otherwise this could go pair shaped pretty quickly.
"Glad you've understood the briefing" He spoke clearly, professionally. "I promise that I will do all I can to get us both back in one piece." That was an issue with these guys, their murders would have almost been called a twisted art if they weren't so grizzly. Their victims died slowly, he was sure of that.
They began walking, and it wasn't long before they reached some iron railings, where two men were talking. One seemed frantic, the other as calm as the moonlit sky. They appeared to exchange something between the two of them, and the frantic man ran off... too quickly.
"Hello? Are you Paul?" Linely was almost able to talk to the man but opted for a somewhat reserved call. "Yeah, I'm afraid if you want the stuff, I'm running low , fucking MRC busted my mule." He spoke with a rough voice, mangled by long-standing use of tobacco. He looked at Were, and seemed to smile somewhat. Linely wasn't sure if it was relief or not.
"So it's not "M" you're after I take it?" He spoke almost methodically, pleased that he may be able to sell more mainstream drugs for once. "I must say, your friend here is a pretty sight on a day like today." He leered at Were...with a stare that Linely found uncomfortable.
"My assistant Catherine, I picked her for more than just her good looks, I can assure you." Linely deliberately overemphasized his formal, British accent when speaking to him, if he was going to act the part, he might as well flaunt what he had. "She will explain the details, but it appears you have a shortage, and we have an... oversupply."
>> "I've had my fill of death cults over the past year"
Joseph smiled grimly. "You and me both, but these aren't exactly cute and cuddly, they make most human death cults look like teddy bears, they call themselves Judgement Day, they've been involved with a small spree of murders across several different cities, each spray painted close by with "Death to Ragnorok". They were pretty grisly murders . We know they traffic in "M" as well. From what we gather, they are mutant supremacists that see humanity as a hindrance to nature that must be wiped out." Basically an awful group Linely thought to himself, one that the X Men would be needed to properly deal with.
>> "Any whiskey on you?" One of the officers dashed off to find some in duty free while Linely continued with his conversation with Sam. "That's how I felt when I saw the first file from the murders, the man had been crucified upside down...and more. Needless to say it wasn't pretty, and that was the most pleasant one to look at." These guys were sick bastards, and there was no hiding from that. >> "Why isn't this common knowledge at the precinct?" "This is heavy mutant related crime, and they like to work with mainly "M" using human proxies, their membership in terms of actual mutants we think is extremely low. If one of our officers is unsound, we don't want Judgement Day finding out we're preparing for them. MRC are vetted far more thoroughly than most, because they work with you guys, but even then only senior members have been told. A lot of what we're going to have to do is going to be strictly off the record." Linely spoke relatively quietly so the other officers couldn't hear, as far as most of them were concerned, this "M" using devil guy just had a weird tattoo.
Linely swore colorfully as a bullet entered his left arm. First there was a coldness, like he'd been punched hard in the arm. His vision swam, but he was able to avoid fainting from the pain. He had just enough time to "share" his pain with the fake cop before she darted out of sight.
He ran towards the door to see...two of Shelby. Two Shelbies. This was going to be tough, it was obvious that they were being pulled by each other towards his car. Damn if this criminal was going to get away with that. Through the confusion he almost forgot an important detail that might just have saved Shelby's life.
"Don't worry Shelby, I've got this" He said confidently. His nerves twitched with anticipation. He'd used his power on one of them, so fake Shelby would be feeling the pain from a bullet wound. Yep, there it was. "Got you" he whispered under his breath. The other Shelby was feeling no such pain, so this twin dilemma was over.
He charged towards the two of them and brought his baton down hard on fake Shelby's head. He swept her from her feet and let her land on the floor. His concentration gone, the appearance changing mutant now took on his real form, a slightly ugly, bearded man.
"That's all of them I think Shelby" He spoke kindly to the human...before crying out again in pain at the wound he had suffered, his wound was bleeding, his vision swam once more. He only just had time to lie down before he lost consciousness. The sound of sirens echoed in the air, he would be safe, he was sure of that.
Linely arrived on the scene , he'd actually volenteered for this one, and it was very good of Devon to allow him to be off duty, which meant he could actually have a meal with the rest of the patrons. He was also some extra muscle , I mean he could take out a few individuals with little more than a look-that had to be good for something right?
He noticed Sam, who he'd met at the airport, talking to a woman that seemed quite taken with the X-man. He would introduce himself to them very soon, right after he found a seat. Food was important right? This was a Charity *dinner* in part. Sanctuary had proven itself to be very useful, and it wasn't long before he found himself a seat next to a rather eccentric looking British gentleman.
There were a couple of empty seats across the table , Joseph saw this as the perfect opportunity to call them over "Hey, Sam, there's a couple of seats free over here! Why don't you introduce me to your lady friend?" Hopefully he hadn't misunderstood the signals between the two of them...that would be embarrassing. Still, that could be taken as a simple greeting to a colleague.
He turned to the fellow next to him, who dressed in an almost Victorian manner, stereo-typically of course, it was obvious this guy was rich and liked to show off about it. Still, who was he to judge? "Sorry, They weren't meant for anyone were they?" He spoke to the man somewhat concerned at how rude he'd been.
"No, no, by all means let your friends sit! It is always good to meet new people." The man was in his middle ages, looked honestly like Penguin out of the Batman comic book, probably minus the crazy gadgets of course. His accent was British as well, but exceedingly formal, even by Linely's standards. Linely didn't know why, but this guy was somewhat disconcerting in the way he spoke.
"Joseph Linely, pleasure to make your acquaintance, and thank you for being so accommodating" He spoke carefully to the man, as it appeared the fellow was slightly hard of hearing. "Frederick Moystyn Jnr" spoke the gentleman, a posh name to fit a posh looking man. What a surprise.
Little did Linely know that he was speaking to the first horseman , Brother War, who wanted to meet as many people here as possible. NYC would soon feel their day of Judgement come, but first he would have to examine the tensions between the people here. The more likely to turn violent, the more likely it was he could cause carnage in NYC without even being detected... not here though, no matter how amusing that would be, now was the time for subtlety.
"Were it is then." He smiled again, she seemed a little distrusting, but he could work with that. Many X-Men had difficulties with authority before they had joined the academy. It didn't help that many policemen had been pretty keen on beating up mutants just for being different. Add to that the bird hunter infiltration and purges , many mutants would need time getting used to trusting the police. Of course, he didn't know the specifics of Were's distrust, maybe she just didn't like the look of him.
"We're going in as a pair of potential suppliers." He took out a small pack with a white powder inside. "It's the real stuff, these guys are professionals, so we have to seem as legit as possible. We're basically going to ask a few questions about who they're working for, so we can be assured of complete discretion." This was how Judgement Day financed their operations.
"After we get as much information as we can, we take the man off the streets. I really don't want to leave without arresting him. If he's working for Judgement Day, we're all going to have to be prepared for the worst." And then some, from the little he knew about them from browsing online forums and the proxies they used, they seemed to be a bunch of psychos. Brutal murders and "M" dealing were the tip of the iceburg, he was sure of that.
"We are allowed to use lethal force if things turn violent, we should consider exposure as a clear and present threat to our lives. Anyway, we best meet this dealer, "M" users will come out in all weathers, even on days like this." He walked in the direction that Were had greeted him from. He hoped she was as capable as most X-Men were.
Linely watched with amazement as the big bad wolves were blasted from side to side, so this guy was a weather manipulator? Interesting, it was a pity the manifestations were made of tougher stuff, and were getting back up on their feet. At least they were further away than before.
The girl was now trembling, she was looking at Devon with big , brown eyes, filled with tears, clearly very scared. "I-I don't wanna hurt you" she spoke with the innocence only a child could ever have. The wolves went back on the approach, less menacing than before, but still there. Linely could smell the iron scent of their breath on the air.
"We're going to take you somewhere safe, and your parents will join you there, away from the bad people" Linely spoke very clearly, he hated having to arrest people like her parents, lumped into the back of a van under false pretenses, and then thrown into a warehouse like so much refuse.
Linely approached Devon, slowly "Is there somewhere specific that can house someone with her gifts, I'd rather not have to put her in a cell, our adapted human officers are already at low morale as it is." The wolves were now carefully circling the two of them, seemingly more interested in guarding the girl than attacking...for now.
He heard the crash of tables, the music turned down , everyone was staring at Kaz and some guy in a suit...a guy who seemed to be extremely scrawny...Linely broke character immediately. "Yes actually, one of them matches the description of a rather unpleasant man who has been spiking women's drinks , that us in the MRC have been on the track of for some time". Linely spoke with an unbelievably British accent. "Oh, I'm sorry, I failed to introduce myself, PD Linely MRC"
"Thanks for going along with the charade Chief" He smiled at the mantis-shrimp. "I originally thought this man could have been it, hence why I was following you two around, we'll discuss this as soon as we can, I just need to handcuff this scum and call in my compatriots."
Linely quickly ran to the scene involving the man who was calling himself Kaz and the serial spiker. "PD Linely MRC, looks like I've found my empath who's been spiking ladies drinks. You sir have the right to remain silent..." He read the man in the suit his rights as he handcuffed him .
So fake cop had moved out, he would have to leap on her later. The three remaining mutants walked nigh straight into Linely, who looked more or less like a man in a suit. Except that he had a gun.
Barney swore colorfully as he recognised the man that had arrested him a few days before, that was just as his vision swam with pain as Linely triggered a particularly nasty spinal fracture he had suffered when he was ten, he fell unconsious pretty quickly after that.}
Linely smiled as the heavy set guy looked in astonishment at the simple collapse of his friend "you did that didn't you? You bastard!" He charged at Linely , only to be met with a few inexpertly fired gunshots , they were meant to be non-lethal, and certainly Linely hoped they were, but his aim was never the best. "Bullets don't care how strong you are" was the first rule they taught you as an armed police officer, and this case was no different, as the heavy set man crumpled in a heap on the floor.
The wood manipulating woman fared better, as a large wooden hand that sprung from the door forced Linely to dodge out of the way, rather than simply knocking her out. This was going to be a bit tough. Linely did an impressive forward roll towards her , and struck her hard in the stomach. Winded , she didn't have time to react before pain rippled through her body as Linely's nervous system lashed out further, causing her simply to keel over.
The spectacle was watched in horror by Peck, as he saw just some guy in a suit take down all three of his comrades without so much as breaking a sweat. He was going to pay for that. He took out his borrowed sidearm and began to fire.
"Sure, I'll wait in the car for you, just stay safe and try not to upset any bloodsucking lawyers while I'm gone" He laughed at his own bad joke. As far as he knew there weren't any bloodsucking lawyers in the firm but with the X Gene you never could tell, you got all sorts after all.
Linely saw a large crowd of people burst from the courthouse, damn near trampling Shelby as she tried to enter the courthouse, they looked positively terrifed...oh boy, time to get into action. He called on his radio for backup, hopefully some would arrive, out came his pistol.
He got out of the car, the crowd had already dispersed in every direction, leaving only a couple of doors and a rather shaken looking Shelby. He walked up to her , carefully. "You stay here, while I deal with whatever's inside." A head round the door and he saw the indivuduals , four of them.
One was a stern looking lady, another heavy set and obvious mutant, one who appeared to be a police officer (though probably wasn't )... and the criminal scumbag that he had arrested after killing a kid! This was going to be fun. His nervous system tingled...the woman had some significant amount of pain within her, as did Barney. Heavy set guy would probably go down to a few well placed bullets, and fake cop... melee would work for her.
He went into the building and began his onslaught.
"It's part of a counselors job I suppose, I've had to use them before..." he trailed off, probably best not to mention the fact that he killed a man with his mutation in a conversation with a human that had every reason to be utterly terrified of Mutants. Why on earth had they assigned him to this charge? Sure he could take down pretty much anyone stupid enough to attack them, but she'd be terrified of him from the moment he used his powers to do so!
"Courthouse it is then" that would make the most sense, they could wait for ages if they didn't get there sooner rather than later. Lawyers were always pretty busy, and there could be a serious problem for her if she didn't get her legal documents on time. "You can go to the bank any time, best not to be bothering lawyers during their lunch break." Plus courthouses had better security than most, he thought to himself. It would likely take a while as well, which would help the day go by.
"Get in the car and we'll be on our way" Upon her entry, he put on the sirens and blue lights (that way they wouldn't get stuck in traffic or be easily carjacked) and set off; hopefully there wouldn't be a problem when they got there.
