The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She was glaring at Linely now, and Linely totally understood what had to be done, this guy was a creep, and deserved to be stopped as quickly as possible, he was surprised to see Were originally follow Paul's instructions, but had no qualms with her doing what she needed to do to get out of this.
Linely watched as Were knocked the seven bells out of Paul without so much as breaking a sweat. It was almost beautiful in the execution, the speed, strength and grace of the cat mutant working in perfect tandem with each other to pulverise the man. He was spluttering for air by one of the many trees. Now it was Were's turn to give some orders. >> "Thomas... you should try asking the questions. He might be smarter with his responses"
"With pleasure Catherine, I'd be more than happy to". He spoke extremely coldly, as if all compassion in him had gone. Linely approached Paul with utter contempt in his mind. "Tell me Paul, how much pain do you think you can go through before you tell me what I want to know?" This was damn near psychotic levels of high pitched, but Linely fully intended to see this through.
"Tell me what information you have, and I'll think about letting you live." Linely let his nerves reach out to Paul's , as he gradually started to force his muscles to undergo previous pains, and boy had this guy been through a lot. Every inch of Linely's skin felt like it was getting a slight pin-prick as he began lashing out with his mutation. Paul began writhing grotesquely as Linely persisted.
"OK, I work with Judgement Day, they are coming with their really big guns, the four horsemen. That's all I know, I swear." Linely smiled, and stopped using his power. "Catherine, I don't think there is any need to remove bits of him. This is useful enough information." Now was time to arrest him, as he wouldn't know that it was Linely that was using his power, and Were had been acting in self defence, there would be little issue with the paperwork.
"This "Kaz" fellow is not someone I am familiar with, he sounds like someone with an interesting look about him, considering what Sanctuary is , I'd assume you'd be more used to eccentric appearances" Moystyn smiled once more, as if he knew such a statement would deliberately make the X-Man uncomfortable.
"Now, Mr Hadden, my associates that pointed me to Sanctuary suggested that this was going to be a fundraiser, I'm sure you'll find the sums I can offer... interesting." Moystyn seemed awfully proud of his own wealth, what an utterly repulsive man Linely thought, while he wasn't one to judge in terms of appearance, wealth was not something to boast about, and charity even less so. "This Utopia sounds like a fascinating concept as well."
Linley laughed at Sam's return quip. "Well, our parents raised us with good British manners , and that's all there is to it." Linely did not share his fellow Brit's interest in Utopia, it was something that would merely cause division and not solve any of the underlying issues that Linely had to deal with on a day to day basis. Still, Sanctuary was a good cause, kept kids off the street, particularly vulnerable mutants. Speaking of which...
"Speaking of helping those in need Devon, how is Esmerelda doing? I hope she hasn't been summoning any more dragons, don't particularly want the place burning down". She had been pretty scared when Linely had found her, and Devon had been there in the nick of time, so he didn't have to lock up a little girl. Always a good thing for police morale.
>> "Not for very long though, I don't really remember why but I got bored of it after a while"
Not really surprising, considering she needed a verbal Que to fight off those thugs properly, and kids got bored of martial arts pretty easily after a while, it needed a lot of discipline, though not all arts treated their pupils the same way. "Well, I'll make sure you're able to defend yourself better, NYC is a dangerous place, as you well know." Throwing a good punch was a start, though Linely preferred his baton he had to admit.
He walked up the steps to the police station. "Right, time for some files to be moved, for me to get some coffee, and I'll see if Forsyth's around for when we're able to get into the shooting gallery." If anyone could teach Rachael to shoot straight it was him, "Cat's Eye" was his nickname, and that's exactly what he could do, give himself and others Cat's eyes. Good night vision, less visible , and generally useful when teaching people to shoot.
>> "You know I'm going to need a shower after this"
"Yeah, I wouldn't want him touching me anywhere either, I feel uncomfortable just looking at it." Linely quipped, before stepping out of the way and watching Were give a smile and approach Paul once more, he hoped the man was sensible... though he also kinda hoped that he wasn't. He'd be able to arrest him soon, regardless of what happened next.
>> "I'd watch yourself with this amount of product"
Paul approached Were extremely quickly, using a fast walk without actually running, Linely could only guess that the man needed enough "M" to supply the number of addicts he had to deal with. "Don't worry, I will" he then grinned, revealing the truth about what was said in terms of "M" dealers and their lack of proper regard for dental hygiene.
Paul took something out of his pocket. He made a mock attempt to give whatever it was to Were, then proceeded in a sudden burst of speed to attempt to hold the knife at Were's throat, whilst darting behind her, grabbing her around her waist with his free hand, and then speaking in a manner that clearly proved his intentions.
"I tell you how it's going to go Kitty Cat Catherine, your associate is going to leave us here, you're going to drop that bag of "M" and you're going to give me what I want..." Linely realising that his power may be needed, began to reach out to Paul's nervous system. It wasn't really surprising, but he could guess that Were had been in similar situations before.
"They might notice me concentrating more than usual, but that's unlikely, I normally have to claim it as my own in order to prove that I've done it." He wasn't going to lie, it was an exceedingly useful power for staying unseen in a place that disliked mutants. Also had the added benefit of being very powerful.
>> "Tea it is then"
Linely laughed hard at that "Yes, very much tea. Being British where we practically breastfeed our children tea, it is the only Hot beverage that I drink socially, other than the occasional hot chocolate", the irony of the USA rebelling against the UK because of taxes on tea was not lost on Linely, but he had come very much to the land of coffee when it came to commonwealth countries. >>"Just don't get shot a lot, or that would start to get really heavy really quickly."
That earned an extremely hearty laugh "I don't intend to get shot a lot , I can assure you of that" he watched as Shelby got out of the way of the medics , who were hurriedly making the arrangements to move him.
"Well, goodbye then Shelby, I'll probably see you when I get out of there." His tone was somewhat like a man being cheerful about being incarcerated. He was then taken out of the ambulance, put on a stretcher, and then pulled through Hospital doors. This was going to be quick and easy...he hoped.
((OOC: if you guys feel getting into a seperate thread so others feel they can join I'd be happy with that, I'm also happy to continue with this thread like this))
"Nice to see you again Sam, particularly in a non "work" situation this time" Linely was pretty happy to see the X-Man, Sanctuary was unlikely to go pear-shaped at this moment in time, but he understood the need to be on guard, the more powerful the mutants around, the better the security would be.
No doubt this Juliette would be capable of some things too, he somehow doubted that Sam would be romantically involved with a non-mutant, X Men rarely spent enough time with vanilla humans to properly intereact with them enough in order to get involved in that way. He went slightly pale at Sam's bad villain joke. He hoped Moystyn wouldn't take it too personally, it was kinda accurate.
Moystyn smiled and laughed at the Batman villain quip from the X-man , it sounded genuine enough. "It's not a problem young miss, I know the difficulties of keeping one's ball and chain in check at times." He took out his pocket watch. The party was not going to be in full swing yet, there was little conflict here...so far. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sam and Juiliette" He smiled revealling impeccable teeth for someone of his relatively advanced age in comparison to the rest of them.
Linely shook Sam's lady friend's hand gently "pleased to meet you Juliette, I'm glad to see Sam has somebody that will be teaching him some manners" he joked slightly, perhaps that was a little bit inappropriate, but he hoped they'd both take it in good humor. He hoped that at least.
>> "I've come to the realisation that Mutant related news and media was heavily controlled by the government"
Linely spoke more somberly at this statement, fully aware of the problems they had in Australia "It's sadly very controlled in Australia, I'd hope the society was more accepting than it is, but we have to work with it." He was fortunate to have been on the other side of the world to Rachael, her power was relatively benign, compared to his that would have probably led to him being kept in one of those "secure holding facilities" the Australian government was so proud of. "The UK isn't perfect, but we are in a far better situation than most countries in the world mutant-wise." Still, her powers could change as she grew up, and that was something she did have to know.
>>..."I can't imagine what a tree might have to say"
"I think you'll find that they might have a lot to say, it could be that they become a key witness, information gathering wise, having eyes in the forest could be very useful, all mutations have uses, you just need to find the niche." He laughed at what Rachael did next, her pose looked rather silly in his view. "You will have a lot to learn, but I'm sure you will be a fast study. The pose you have made looks like you did a little martial arts?" Not that it mattered, that stance would be broken apart very quickly by your average thug, and if they were armed she stood no chance at all.
>> "Do you get involved in actual fighting often? ... they have a chance to get close."
"Sometimes they don't have enough pain to really incapacitate them, and don't forget some humans are adapted, meaning they can cancel out your powers while you're around them. My skill with the Baton normally deals with that pretty easily, I don't want to be a one trick pony, it would not be a good thing to find myself unable to use my powers and have nothing to back them up with. Plus, as I feel an echo of the pain that I cause, I shouldn't overuse it." The long winded explanation was necessary, Linely felt, he had a policy never to patronise those who were younger than him. He honestly could have taught chemistry if he'd wanted to. Tell the truth, and they'd respect you was his motto.
Wasn't that the gang he had heard about? He remembered the first time he had met Rachael, that had been the "place" that the strange punk girl was trying to lure her to. He had assumed that she was just recruiting young mutants into gangs, but perhaps her intentions had been more benign.
"I think that would be great. Better that she's around people she feels comfortable around, then we can go and get her Mummy and Daddy." Linely was all of a sudden quite glad that Devon had arrived, it had certainly made his situation far more positive.
>> "Just like Quasimodo..." Upon mention of the story, the girl whimpered a bit less through her tears. She seemed to remember "Esmeralda" from the story, which she spoke with familiarity . The sound of a Church bell could be heard as the girl manifested the story as best she could. Not a reality manipulator then, just storybook manifestations, she had a lot of power besides. The wolves kept circling the two men, keeping their eyes firmly fixed upon them, waiting for a false move.
>> "You could even play with your friends there... I'm sure people would love to see them and what you can do."
The girl smiled shyly at this remark, "Really?...will Mummy and Daddy be there?" , she seemed very tentative, despite the assurances of Tempest, watching his eyes fading into a blue certainly made it easier on her. The wolves seemed to relax more , but they were still getting closer to the two men with each circle that they repeated
Linely uncuffed Mellitus as quickly as he could, the key didn't get stuck in the lock, he was glad that at least that part of the robot wasn't malfunctioning. Getting arrested was not normally part of the police's job description, and Linely was glad that was over.
He decided to give her the short version of his mutation."Most MRC officers do have a mutation of some sort, adapteds are also common, as for me I force people's nervous systems to undergo previous trauma, Max 3 people, and it tends to be pretty crippling. I can also cause others to feel nervous trauma that I currently undergo. Not much use against a full crowd of people I'm afraid."
He smiled then, this was going to be a challenge to them both, then. "Against small groups and individuals though it's really effective." Morrison would also help with his fire support , but they wouldn't be able to end a riot easily all on their own. "If there are any major trouble makers I can take them out as a single target, basically" Linely said, there was always use for his powers practically in police situations.
There were dangerous mutations being used left right and centre, Molotov cocktails. Bricks. Glass was breaking, creating a huge whirlwind of sound, cries from the wounded for help that would get no answer, this was going to need far more than just three officers, but they could perhaps make some difference.
Linely turned to face the bats, they seemed pretty conventional to him, a bit on the large size, but not overly out of the ordinary. Their fangs were obvious, great! Vampire bats as well! Mutation wise, it was going to be difficult, as the animal nerves were pretty alien to him, but were there was a will...there was a way. One seemed to have...an old issue with it's wing? He tried to bring it to the surface despite the general confusion...it seemed to work, that was a bat down.
Linely had just reached Calley in enough time to see what looked like a ....Skunk appear before him? Linely had never seen a skunk before, in the UK, you saw them on TV, and in NYC they were apparently reasonably rare. So he was quite surprised to see his fellow officer use his powers to produce something that was ground borne.
"Schwartz? Is that a skunk?" He spoke in almost wonderment, almost like a child who had been shown something for the first time, and wondered what the use of it was. There were BATS approaching, plus it was likely that Johnson had an accomplice if the entrance hadn't suddenly decided to block itself! What on earth was his fellow officer doing?
Then the smell came... and boy did it smell, some of it was sprayed on Linely's trousers. The assault on his senses was present, even in the general stench of the sewer. The bats let out an awful screech from behind him, then started to fly away in the opposite direction.
"Never let me question your methods again Schwartz." Linely said , grateful that he wasn't going to have an issue with fangs seeping into his neck. Vampire bats tended to prefer sleeping victims, but that was an instinct easily trainable out of it. "I did manage to down one with my power, not sure what you want to do with it. It'd still be alive."
Linely watched as Paul took in the scent of Were, as she dipped so she was shoulder to shoulder to him. The dealer gave a heavy sigh as he sniffed her, as if wanting to take in every second of this moment. He didn't even notice that "Catherine" was perhaps not interested in him, but rather what was in his pockets (if Linely's guesses were correct about allowing such a man to touch her without getting a scratch on the face).
>> "I think you overestimate my value of such secrets"
Paul was still in an almost fugue like state, as if oblivious to the words. He then snapped out of it pretty fast. " Suit yourself" He spoke bitterly, as if he felt he was owed more than he was given. "So, how much do you want for the "M" then?" There was clear disappointment in his voice, but Linely knew his type enough that he would try again.
"I think we want...twice the normal market value that you would normally buy it for" Linely said this in a cold and considered tone. "I'm sure Catherine would agree that this is an exceedingly reasonable price." He could see Paul's eyes widen, but seemingly accept the proposition.
Linely then walked gently so he was facing Were. He gave her the package of "M", he whispered to her under his breath. "Something tells me he isn't going to give up that easy. But perhaps you can use that to your advantage?" He then turned to face Paul again. "Give Catherine the money, she'll give you the goods, and we'll be on our way."
>> "I'm not terribly good at picking up on those kind of things"
"Don't worry about it" Linely said "I am not a particularly visible mutant, I just make people collapse with a look." He tried to make humor out of a power that was pretty morbid, or so he'd been told. To him it was just a weapon that he could use. No more "evil" than throwing a fireball, or freezing someone solid , or breathing a poisonous gas.
>> "Maybe I can buy you a coffee instead of you getting shot?" "Yes Shelby, I'd like that. Can't stand coffee though. Anything is preferable to getting shot. Except Coffee which is about equal. I'm actually able to show you exactly how it feels with my power." Linley laughed at his own rather dark joke. "Don't worry, I only use them on criminals, it certainly helps with letting them understand how I feel about the situation."
And then the ambulance shuddered to a halt. "Looks like they're going to take this souvenir from this fight away, what a shame eh?" He could only really make jokes in this position , though he knew it was distinctly "Cop" humor. Hey , with their job they needed to have something to laugh about right?
Still, the fact that Shelby was unharmed meant a job well done for today, even if she hadn't got her papers signed. She really needed to get those done when he was given the all-clear.
>> "Does that mean I won't get to see you or Gallagher again?"
Linely sighed but decided to make things very clear. "Shelby, I'm a Mutant, and actually quite a powerful one at that." He spoke carefully, not wishing to alarm her. "I can manipulate pain, I can sense physical trauma that your nervous system has suffered and force you to relive it. That's how I was able to take out most of the motley crew with out so much as breaking a sweat, it was only because your double had a gun that there really was a problem." He hoped that wouldn't alarm her too much. "As to Gallagher, she's MRC, that means normally that she's a mutant..." he let out a more pained sigh. "I haven't asked her capabilities, but they normally give the ones with enhanced senses to witness protection".
>>" I suppose the easier thing to do would be try to work it out so I don't have to leave where they've got me cooped up Probably wouldn't be that hard, and it would cut out the issue of trying to find people to escort me around places"
"I don't think it's going to be so easy, the 'roach is not exactly well known for giving up, or willingness with diplomacy. He's more of a I'm going to eat you because I'm hungry type of guy from what I've heard." Linely hoped there would be some kind of way to sort this out for her though, that didn't involve her being paraded out with several policemen or an X Man every time she wanted to go to school.
"I can assure you that the people protecting you will be very capable, I'm normally reserved for going on high profile missions... no offence. But I mean like handling escaped murderering mutants, busting drug rings and bird hunter cults" His voice lowered and he smiled cheekily "the occasional undercover operation. Not that you aren't important, but they had me assigned to you because they had no-one else to fill, now we can see you are more of a target than first thought , especially with my recommendation, I could be assigned more often."
"Well you do get a few issues, mainly security concerns, "is it wise to have mutants with certain abilities in certain professions" sort of things, but mutants don't get beaten up on the street, and if they do, the British media is all over it." That wasn't to say there weren't issues though.
"You do get an unfortunate number of mutant supremacists though, mainly individuals that feel they have the same issues in the USA as in the UK, and think all humans deserve to pay for the actions of a few bird hunters in another country. " He despised that sort of ideology, Mutants sometimes needed help, and indeed if a non-mutant didn't help a mutant when they could have, then that was a problem. However it was not the responsibility of non-mutants to continuously apologise for wrongs happening in Australia, or Europe. "UK also sadly as a bit of an "M" problem, particularly in universities."
Linely laughed at her little quip "I highly doubt that, more likely you'll get some kind of power to speak to plants, or make them do things physically, power growths are rarely negative for individuals that get them. Why we always monitor any mutants we end up having to imprison."
"Helen will most likely have done most of the sorting, she's very well organised." Still that gave them other opportunities. "I need to deliver the interrogation files to the Chief, so you can do that for me while I sort out the final bit of filing I need done" Then after that he was mostly free. " Then, how about we try some self defense in the safe room? My pager will tell me if I'm needed, and I'm sure some of the MRC would be happy to give you a few pointers."
Paul was now invading poor Were's personal space , "Catherine" was doing exceptionally well. Paul smiled at the suggestion he might be the boss "Well the people that supply me, they give me a lot of autonomy, I just have to make sure that some of their profits filter back to them." He then exhaled , giving Catherine a nose full of what his breath smelt like. Linely guessed it smelled awful.
"They're very secretive you see, and they only trust people with information they need to know." Bloody Judgement Day and their proxies! He might have next to no information whatsoever! Linely felt exasperated at this, but hopefully there was something. If this proxy gave them anything to prepare for , it would be a job well done. Even if they just wound up arresting him and taking some trash with a fetish for felines off the street.
"I might be able to give... more information to a pretty little thing like you. " Paul shot Linely a somewhat resentful look. "But it would come at a little... price." He then tried to touch Were's arm, gently stroking her fur, almost as if wanting to hold each moment in suspension with time, then attempting to get lower than just the arm. Something told Linely that it wasn't going to be all he wanted if this continued.
