The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Max had taken to walking around Central Park on his lunch breaks. Considering he spent his days working on Haven meetings and planning and his night working at Inferno he figured he needed to make sure he was getting some fresh air when he could. The fact that Haven was conveniently located right beside Central Park had little to do with it.
He had a can of coke in one hand and a sandwich in the other. The price of food was outrageous so packing lunch was probably the only way one could expect to not go broke. He had on his jeans and the black tee-shirt with the green Haven logo on the front. His fanny pack rested comfortably on his hips.
He made it to a small lake and saw what looked like the Walt Disney version of the horror movie The Birds before him. A man sat on a bench and was surrounded by a small army of geese and ducks. The man was on his phone and was talking to the ducks conversationally.
Max approached from the back. The winged birds were too obsessed with their meal to pay him much mind. He reached the back of the bench and saw that the guy was on Tinder on his phone. Max suppressed a smirk. He knew how it felt to be lacking in the romance department, though he'd never personally gone for online dating.
Max made it through the interview without feeling like shooting himself. He knew he wasn't answering all the questions the right way, or with the kind of enthusiasm or tact you only ever got after going to stupid seminars on interviewing well. Instead Max was just honest, and himself. After all it was what he did best.
, "Which neans you'll start at ele-zen dollars, not including the ti's you get."
Max hand to place his chin in his hand to stop his mouth from dropping open. Somewhere by the bar he swore he could hear the sound of a cash register ding. It was unheard of. At that pay rate if he was anything near a decent server he would be bringing in a decent enough paycheck each week.
-when would you 'e a'le to start?"
"I'm ready immediately so whatever works best for you," He paused for a moment, "And thank you for the opportunity."
Sveta seemed sincerely interested in getting in a solid workout. Max couldn't help but grin. He had always been a bit of a slacker when it came to training. Especially after the intensity of his first session of CLASS he had less enthusiasm for his training sessions than he once did. Sveta however made him feel that pulse of excitement for it once again.
-"I don't do kisses anymore."
Max felt his face redden even as he processed her explanation of power. The Phantom tingle of lips on his reminded him of his encounter with Noel. It seemed he kept running into people whose mouths had special powers.
"That's fair." He daid keeping his voice level and prefessional, "Though can't say theoretically I'm not interested to hear what it could do. The fact that the multiplier factor increases so much just between clothed and skin to skin contact is impressive enough. I'm sure you know that already but that's a damn powerful ability you have."
He imagined the things her power could let him do for a moment. Tripling the amount of surface area and time he could effect gravity would be interesting. He imagined himself throwing a sixteen wheeler across the highway.
"I create fields of augmented gravity. By touching someone or something I can throw a field of gravity around them, like plastic wrap, and manipulate the strength and direction of it. I can hold continues use for about three minutes at a time." He explained.
He unzipped the bag and pulled out a baseball.
"Do you have any kind of training in self defense?" He asked.
-Just seems like it makes more sense if I'm something else."
Elliot's story was unique, almost unbelievable. Max had to stop from laughing at himself for that particular thought. Impossible is an illusion. He lived in a world of mutants, it was rediculous to assume that mutants were the only strange thing that could exist in the whole universe. He stopped outside the IHOP doors for a moment to allow Elliot to finish.
-"So yeah. Never a dull moment."
"Your human in every way that counts man. Hell your more human than the people who chase and hunt you." Max replied.
He looked at Elliot and grinned.
"The spaceman and the zombie. Oh what a pair are we." He said.
Max raised a hand and held it up.
"These are just vessels anyway. Doesn't matter what they look like on the outside. Ten fingers or three. White skin or green. All a body does is give you something to use as a way of expressing the mind. People have and will always get way to obsessive over basically what is the wrapping paper on the gift of life " He said.
"And those people can shove it up their ass " He finished a second later.

"Things without a spine really weird me out."
Max let out a snort as he chewed his pizza.
"I know a lot of people that would weird you out then," He said with a sly grin.
He felt a small pang of pride at his word play but her remark about bugs brought the image of Agnes to Max's mind. He had seen the woman spew a swarm of insects out of her body, not to mention the insect like biology she had going for her. He made a mental note to be cautious if he ever introduced the pair.
He considered the question she had turned back on him. There were a few answers that rose to the front of his mind right away. Haven and it's goals were definitely a secret thing. His return from the dead was something about him he hadn't told many people. Someone they didn't really seem like good first date material however.
"I don't know how to ride a bike. Never learned. Dad was always too busy at work to teach me." He said with a laugh.

"Suit yourself, and how many times do I have to tell you that my name is Quin?"
Max gave a boyish smirk.
"Oh it is? I had no ideas. My apologies Q. I'll be sure to take that into advisement Q." He joked.
He took a bite of his burger as Noel let out a small exclamation. He looked at her in the rear view mirror and saw her set her burger aside unfinished. He raised a quizzical brow but didn't ask what was wrong. Noel looked pale, uncomfortable, and Max figured if she was going to talk about it she would. He didn't want to pry.
Instead Quin and Noel asked for a game plan. While moving the vehicle along Max placed his burger in his left hand and with his right opened the middle console and produced a pair of folders that he set on the arm rest after closing the console back.
"I found the graveyard I was buried in and the plot number. I have shovels in the back. We should be in town by nightfall so my plan was some friendly innocent grave robbing. Dig up my grave and see what's there. Noel if you can come up with anything while we are there that could help too." He began.
"After that I figured tomorrow we could make a trip to my parents house. I won't go in but you two can go talk to them and see if they know anything. Other than that I've got nothing." He concluded.
He gave the women a look as he continued to eat and drive.
"I'm open to suggestions and additions." He said simply," also you both know what I can do but it might be worth filling each other in about your abilities."

There was a primal and simplistic joy to be had at jumping off of something high. The urge to jump from tall places was something that all humans had. It was a rebellious desire to experience danger. Everyone knew falling was dangerous, but it was an adrenaline pumping danger.
A grin plastered it's way onto Max's face as he fell. The wind whipped at his face as he plummeted towards the beach. He let out a whoop of defiance as he fell. He planned on catching himself when he saw Devon flip and the man's eyes became a shining jet black.
A gale of wind exploded upward and caught Devon and Max. It was a wind strong enough to support their weight, and Max felt the even constant pressure on him as he was literally caught by the wind. He felt his descent slow and his feet touched the soft shifting sand.
His friend joked with him and and Max gave him a grim. That was the first time he had ever seen Devon use his ability. He had summoned a powerful wind in an instant. He wondered just what else the man could do.
"Going up sir?" He asked offering his hand for Devon, "I'll give you a lift."
"He waited for Devon to take his hand and prepared to extend his power out and reverse gravity. It would bring them sparing upward and Max could drop his power and land on the cliff as gently as they had on the beach.

So, will you play with us?
The man apparently had obtained a degree from Bad Horror Movie University. The words had been more cheesy than intimidating, but the tone of his voice had a chilling violence in it. His eyes were full of amusement, but it was a hunters amusement. A look or joy that occurred when prey was cornered. A shiver ran up Max's spine.
He didn't move an inch but his eyes darted around trying to assess how many of them there were. You didn't show a predator your back. Max looked at the bundled up girl beside him as his fingers gripped on what he needed in his pack.
"When I say go grab me and hold on." He said to the girl. He barely moved his lips and kept his voice to the faintest he could manage.
For the moment his best bet was to keep the guy talking. Stalling until a neutral party saw what was going on. The woman with her glowing hands would be enough to draw attention and if someone saw they might call the cops. It was a long shot but the best option.
"What are you wanting to play? I'm pretty good at hopscotch but I suck at jax." Max said.

. It's impossible to feel alone in the world when you're sitting somewhere like this"
Max took a bite of pizza and nodded in agreement. Crowds were funny thing, for some people they induced panic or stress. For others it made them lonely. For Max it was like being hooked up to a battery, he felt the energy of life itself around him.
He opened his can of soda as Janelle talked about her trip as a kid. He gave a little laugh.
"It is for all practical purposes. Sure the Internet let's us see and hear about places far far away but this is our," He looked for the right word,"ecosystem. A hundred years ago this area would be all we knew, it be our whole world." He mused.
Max gave her a look of pure shock as she talked about the blessed beverage of coke.
"I don't know who these people are but if they are speaking g poorly about my beloved I will take offense." He said with a laugh.
He basically ran off caffeine. Part of him wondered how people ever got along without it. He continued to eat enjoying the company and the atmosphere.
"So tell me something about you I don't know. Something most poeple don't know about you." He said with a smile.

The tension seemed to have faded from both of the women. For now. Max gave a weary sigh as he got int the drivers seat. Quin pushed her seat back and Max gave a longing look at the comfy back seat that Noel was spreading out in. He hoped the pair would be comfy as he drove, given he was already basically exhausted. He punched the radio and some jazz flowed through the speakers as Quin offered snack.
"Thanks Q but I'll stick to the fattening stuff. I like to toughen my arteries up, don't want them going soft on me now." He said lifting a hand over the headrest in a grabbing motion for Noel to pass him a burger.
-"Aww, Max. You shouldn't have"
"Consider it me taking you out to dinner first. If you need to borrow memories in the job I'd like to at least feel like a gentleman." He joked.
Once you'd had a total platonic make out session with someone for the sake of teaching them English you kinda found a certain level of familiarity with them. Or at least that was Max's experience.
He eased the SUV into traffic in front of a blue family car and they hit the road.

The mansion huh? It basically confirmed what Max had suspected. The girl was a mutant and was trying to get home. She asked if he was serious and he lifted an eyebrow in confusion.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I? It's not that expensive a ride and it beats the hell out of walking all the way there." He said with a shrug.
It was one of those things Max didn't think about very often but other people noted. He was kind, possibly to a fault. He saw a girl in need and jumped. Call it chivalry, or caveman brain or whatever but he couldn't see a woman in a tight spot and not at least attempt to help them.
He didn't get the predators warning of danger like she had. So it was a total surprise to him when he heard the voice speak from in front of them. He turned to look at the man and saw the woman with her glowing hands. He could see the shadows falling over another pair of figures behind them.
"Toll huh? Man public streets are getting more and more expensive." He said.
He reached down into his fanny pack.
"How much I owe you?" He said with a cheerful smile.

She said she worked at a flower shop and Max smiled. Given her power he had to assume she was incredibly good at her job. The way she described his work made his heart give a little flutter. He knew he was doing what he did to help the world, even if sometimes that required a morally grey call. Having somone reassure him always made him feel better though.
"Flower shop sounds fun. What does your gift let you do? I know it's plans based but can you just like conjure a dozen roses. He asked with a chuckle.
She agreed to pizza and he headed for the stand. After a quick minute and shuffling in his fanny pack to find the money to pay he took his two slices and a Coke and paid for Janelle's food too. He was a gentleman after all.
He saw what he was looking for and led her to a set of bleachers that stood in a little area full of tourists. He walked over to them and sat down.
"Just take a minute and listen. I love it here. It's the loudest silence you will ever hear. Look at all these people, all these lives crossing paths if only for an instant. I know it sounds a little hippy dippy, but I love this place. It's a Symphony of life itself." He said.
He looked at the hordes of people walking about, obviously moving through life alongside one another. He looked at Janelle and smiled.
"I probably sound like a loon huh?" He said with a laugh

Noel's frustration seemed to fade slightly after Max spoke to her. She reminded him that he was technically responsible for her and then hung up.
He knew that, he knew it well. Max hadn't really been responsible for anything before, and now he was playing chaperone to a girl he had only met a few days ago. It was a nessessity, he had fought hard with the higher ups at Haven to let Noel come and help him. It was only after he reiterated once again how important it was that he find out how he was revived that they had agreed. The one rule however was simple "Your trip your responsibility."
He looked back over at Quin as she spoke and and saw the annoyance on her face. Apparently he was doing a good job of frustrating people today, just great. He pushed down a bit of impatient annoyance that rushed through him. Quin's eyebrows were a warning as clear as if she had a neon sign above her.
"Glad you understand. Shotgun is all yours." He conceded as Noel appeared scolding him for his jab at the Officer.
He gave a non committed shrug as she dropped her stuff into the back and smiled.
"Noel, Quin. Quin, Noel" He said gesturing between the pair, " Sorry I didn't introduce you guys earlier but I didn't really have time to schedule a brunch."
He didnt offer much more of an introduction than that. His expereince has shown that women were far supior at guaging one anoyher than men. Best to let them male their own observstions.Noel went for the back door. Max tried not to smile at the situation. He'd be driving then, which meant the dead guy with no valid liscence would be behind the wheel.
"I stopped for burgers on the way. They're in the back along with fries and drinks." He said walking around the car to get in the driver's seat.
