The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Goddess of harvest and agriculture."
Max smiled as he saw the excitement on her face. He had hoped she would find the place entertaining. He stayed a step behind her leading her towards an elevator.
"Exactly. I called and talked to the doctor in charge. Nice guy. Haven funds some of their research. Stiff with social applications. They're working on making vegetables that grow larger, corn that resows itself, eco friendly pesticides that not only repel bugs but bolsters plant growth without side effects." He explained as he entered the lift and punched a button.
"What I want to show you is a little less save the Earth though." He joked.
The lift opened and they were in a room with a number of monitors and a control panel. There was a door beside it he opened the door and entered.
The room was huge, taking up the entire floor of the building. In the center of the room was a huge pool of water. The surface was practically covered in Lotus flowers. They floated lazily on the surface of the water under huge sun lamps that lit the room. Max turned to the wall beside him and hit the light switch.
The room was thrown into almost complete darkness. However in the pool of water light bounced out filling the room in cool blue light. Each of the Lotus flowers emitted the light. The white flowers let off a blue glow, the veey oetals of the flowers illuminating the space around them. thousands of flowers lighting the room from the water.
"They spliced lotus seeds with firefly genetics. The flowers absorb light at an accelerated rate though the day, growing several times faster than normal flowers. At night however they give off this glow. Beautiful isn't it?" He said.
He reached out and offered his hand again, "What do you think?"

Max raised an eyebrow quizzically as Derek said he lived at the mansion. Seemed like you couldn't throw a rock in this city and not hit someone who had been there. Though hitting mutants with rocks seemed like a good way to find yourself hurt.
"I know the feeling. I used to live there myself. Nice place but wasn't my style. You a student there?" He asked.
Nah, no yet. You'd think I would find some in New York City. It's like the second best place to be gay other than San Fran."
Max let out an earnest laugh at that.
"You should check out the dance clubs then. I'm a dancer so I've been to most of them. You'd be surprised the number of free drinks I've gotten" He replied.
Being from Virginia, specifically a rather old school part of Virginia Max had experienced some less than accepting ideas concerning people who weren't "normal" by the most boring definition of the word. It had never made sense to him. Live and let live was his motto, which was only slightly ironic given that Max had died and returned to life.
"I work for a private club at Haven. You should come check it out sometime, I can get you in if you promise to behave." He said with a playful wink.

Sounds about right."
She was smirking at him and Max had the sneaking suspicion this was not the first time she'd had this conversation. He smiled back and decided to move on given he didn't much want to bore her with repeated details.
"Sounds good. If I am support, den you call the shots
He nodded and reached into his bag. He produced two small pistols. Each was made of a tough plastic and had a metal cylinder attached to the back. He offered one to the woman.
"They're set to respond to the paintballs as real rounds," He explained and nodded behind Sveta.
A dozen pairs of feet shuffled along the floor. Max grinned as the soldiers they would be going against entered the room. They were simply robotic skeletons with hard light projections over them. But to the naked eye they looked like stormtroopers. The white armor flashed in the light as the troopers entered the maze. There was a disturbance in the air and a map appeared beside them. It had the floor plane of the maze along with notations of where cameras where.
"In a real mission we would have Intel. So this is what we have to go on." He said.
He took a minute to memorize the map. He ran through the maze and tried to force a few different routes into his mind. It didn't have the location of the stormtroopers on it, that would be a variable. After he felt confident he could navigate he stepped towards the door.
"Your ready to go?" He smiled, bringing his gun up.

His smoke screen elicited fury from the pair, which was exactly what Max had wanted it to do. Fighting angry made you sloppy. The two men that had been behind him were the real threat at the moment so with a twist of his power he pulled himself and the girl over the smokescreen and landed on the other side of the sword armed man and the woman with her glowing hands. It meant the were no longer surrounded and the girl told him she needed a minute to do whatever it was she was planning.
Max brought them to the ground and reached into his fanny pack to produce two of his steel yo yos. His smokescreen was beginning to puff out and he saw the man step forward with his sword and shield out of the small remaining cloud . The smoke whirled around his torso.
Max needed to keep their focus. He charged and the man swung his blade at him. Max sidestepped and jumped. His foot landed on the man's raised shield and he kicked, throwing the man off balance. The woman appeared in the smoke and threw a blast of energy at Max. The dancer spun and the blast slid underneath him, missing him by inches.
Max's arm extended and one of his yo yos flew out. It wrapped around the woman's leg and Max gave a hard pull. The leg flew forward and the woman fell. Her companion had recovered quickly and the man came in with his sword thrusting at Max. Max pulled on the string of his yoyo and the blade snapped against the steel wire and began to slide upward towards Max's hand.
Max stepped forward and brought his arm up. The string slid up the blade to the hilt and the sword slid over his hand scraping his knuckles. They bled slightly but Max used his other hand, still gripping a yoyo and threw a punch into the man's face. He stumbled back.
The woman regained her feet and extended her hand. She had him. He winced as he prepared to feel the blast hit him but instead he heard a large inhuman roar and looked behind him.
The girl was gone and in her place stood a fierce dinosaur. All action ceased for a second as he and his two assailants stared in surprise.

Quin had not been lying when she proclaimed that she knew defensive driving. She swerved away from the gunfire and Max instinctively shut his eyes for a second as she collided with the car beside them. He open his eyes just in time to see the car pass beside them the driver jerking the wheel fiercely. He was lucky that the passenger couldn't get a good line of sight to fire off a shot at Max.
They barreled through the cones and Max looked ahead of them. Construction equipment and various building materials lay on the sides of the two lane bridge. About halfway across Max saw the wooden barricade set up with flashing lights on it. Beyond that there was only a large and empty gap probably the length of half a football field. On the other side of that was a matching half of bridge under construction. Max's stomach rolled. He look in the rear view mirror and saw the car barreling along behind them. He had no choice.
His hands still placed firmly on the dash Max focused his will and began to breath slow steady breaths. Normally he could use his power instantly, throw out a field of augmented gravity around himself or other things. He'd even been fast enough to throw power over someone in the time of contact during a punch.
However, the SUV was massive. At the time of renting it he had thought the bulk would be nice. Now however he let out a small swear at his past self.
He tensed his muscles and pushed out with his power. He felt it spread over the vehicle. An invisible film of gravity spread from the front of the hood around the tank of an automobile. He pushed harder and it spread over the front. It was as the field reached the middle of the storage compartment that Max felt his power strain and pressure build. He felt like his whole body was a rubber band being pulled to its limit.
"Pour on the speed. I need all the momentum I can get." He said with a struggled breath.
They were barreling towards the barricade at a speed that would be lethal to impact, but for what he wanted to do he needed more speed. He could lift the car, but if they didn't have the forward push they'd never make it to the other side.
First however he needed to get his power over the car. He let out a cry of pain and found himself shouting with effort. Every muscle tensed in his body and slowly the field of power snapped around the last part of the SUV. He nullified gravity as they reached the barricade and the tires floated off the road. The front bumper of the car smashed through the top light on the barricade and they flew out over the void beyond.
He held his breath, fighting to keep his power over the car. He could feel force building up against him, like the gravity he was defying was bleeding through and trying to smash him. The SUV apparently had the force required because after a moment that felt like an eternity he saw the barricade of the opposite side fly underneath them.
Something popped inside Max's gut and he released his power. More accurately his power seemed to snap apart and he felt an unproportinal force blast through his body. Stars formed in his vision and he almost passed out. The SUV fell three feet and the tires smacked onto the road with a loud thump. Max's head snapped back from the impact and his forehead smacked the dash, adding yet another pain to the mix.

Derek joined in on the wordplay and Max chuckled slightly beside the man as he finished his sandwich. He finished his coke and crunched up the can, tossing it into the trash can beside the bench. It banged against the can as it bounced in with a satisfying clang.
"So you on lunch or something?" He asked, "most people don't just chill at the park in the middle of a work day."
The horde of birds seemed content to chomp away at the bread they had been given. Max leaned back, crossing his legs at the ankles and placing his hands behind his head. He let the sun wash over him and warm him and smiled.
"So catch any good dates? Does online dating really work?" He asked, no sarcasm in his voice.

She took his hand and he felt a surge of something akin to electricity shoot through his limb. He was nervous, the physical contact somehow bringing back the insecurities he had felt earlier in the night as he had been waiting for her. He threw those nerves aside and started walking, leading her beside him at a pleasant pace.
For a moment he wasn't a mutant, he wasn't a secret warrior from Haven, he wasn't a freak. He walked beside Janelle and they could have been any couple out for a date. As he made his way through the crowd he saw a number of couples walking and holding hands as well. They were just two people out and about.
"So Haven has investments in a lot of things. Mostly stuff that has applications to bettering society." He said.
The place he was heading was only a few blocks away. He didn't want to think about the price of real estate this close to the heart of the city.
"I was working on some budget paperwork the other day and came across something interesting. I thought it be right up your ally." He said vaguely.
It only took a short trip to bring them to the building Max wanted. It was a tall building, older and made of brick. You could see that there had been work done to update the place. A sign above the large twin doors read "Demeter Research Labs." He punched a code into keypad beside the doors and pulled one open.

The guy scooted over and made room for Max as the young mutant sat. The man beside him spoke to the geese once again. They seemed to be quite perturbed that he had stopped feeding them. Max chuckled at them as he took another bite.
The guy introduced himself as Derek and then proceeded to look at Max's shirt. Max saw recognition pass across the guys face. So he knew what Haven was. Not a big deal? It was a pretty well known organization, but something in the guys eyes spoke of something deeper.
"Max," Max supplied simply, "Nice day out huh? You usually hang with such fowl company?"
He tried not to smirk at his terrible pun. His face gave away nothing.

Being shot at is not as fun as it looked in the movies. There was no satisfying popping noise as the gun fire. There was only a flash of light and the sudden destruction of the passengers side mirror. He knew he should be focused on survival but his initial thought was more along the lines of "Well there goes my deposit."
His adrenaline pulsed through him like fire as he swerved a bit to avoid another spray of fire. Quin shouted for him to trade seats and given the circumstances he couldn't argue with the logic. He hammered the pedal to accelerate and clicked on the cruise control to maintain speed. His hand still full of hamburger flew down under the seat and he dropped the food as he punched the lever and the seat shifted back as far as it would go. It would be crowded enough and he didn't want to cramp Quin.
He pulled his legs up to mirror Quin and slid across the middle console to the passengers seat. The SUV gave an unhealthy little bump without someone behind the wheel and he slid off the console and into the passengers seat. His head smacked into the window.
He had just enough time to notice a flashing LED. It had words flashing in bright red.
"Bridge construction ahead. Use detour."
A flash of insanity ran through Max's mind as he came up with an idea.
"I need you to get ahead of them! Pour in as much speed as you can! Head for the bridge construction, skip the detour!" He called.
He looked back to see Noel in the floor of the car. Smart move. He looked ahead and saw something looming on the horizon. The bridge. Max placed his palms on the dashboard and started taking calming deep breaths to focus. This was going to suck, hard.

The girl gave Max the slightest of nods. Good she understood. The sadist twins ran their mouth and the woman shot off a blast of pink energy. Max almost moved then, but some instinct in his brain forced him to remain still, to wait. The blast went by him and stuck to the wall.
Max turned his head only slightly and watched the pink blob begin to eat away at the building. So some kind of acid. His attention was drawn to the two men behind them. One had called up a bluish aura around his arm that had taken the shape of some kind of tentacles. The other watched Max and the girl with an almost bored expression on his face.
He looked back in time to see the man transform his arms beside the woman and heard the faint sound of the girls voice beside him. Distract them? Her voice had a bit of what Max thought was fear in it, but there was an edge to her tone that told him she was prepared.
"Wanna know my favorite game?" Max asked the man.
He waited till the man gave him a quizzical look and pulled a small cylinder out of his fanny pack. There was a striker tab and a fuse on it and Max ripped off the plate sparking the wick and threw it.
"Catch!." He shouted, "Go!."
Fun fact. You can mix sugar with a number of gardening chemicals to create a bomb. The man raised his shield as the cylinder made a popping noise and burst. It wasn't an explosive however, but a smoke screen and heavy clouds of the stuff flew out and around the man and woman.
Max waited for the girl to grab him and threw his power over them both. He reversed gravity and they flew upward along the side of the building. He turned to see the tentacle man lash out with four of his tendrils but Max spun and avoided them.
"Consider them distracted." He shouted over the wind and shouts.
She gave him a look that told Max she found the idea of him being a lawyer as downright rediculous as he did and then she spoke.
"School wasn't so bad though. There are lots of private schools where I grew up and it was basically the same as regular school."
Max gave a little nod of agreement as he took another bite.
"It wasn't all bad. I mean I got a great education. It was just one of those places where everyone was important or a loser because of who their mom or dad was. I like to judge people for who they are." He said.
She continued with a description of her parents and a smirk crossed Max's face. They sounded nice, supportive. It was a bit of a foreign concept.
"Well of course. They just want what's best for you. My parents do too in their own way. Your folks sound like they get it though, they want you to be happy. That's nice. My parents had my life planned for me before I even got there " He said simply.
"With suits and big poofy, fancy dresses?"
He let out a small chuckle.
"Only the poofiest and fanciest. It was all table manners, proper greetings, and pompous clapping" He said demonstrating with a delicate formal clap as he set his empty plate and can down, " The dancing was nice though. Got me started to be honest. More ballroom than anything else but it worked."
They've go a lot of personality for a large herbivore.
Max looked at her and shrugged, "I'm always down to learn new things. Just don't expect me to wear one of those fancy jokey costumes." He teased.
She seemed to ponder life for a moment and Max rose.
"I think I'm pretty happy with where I am. Especially right now." He said offering his hand, "come on I have a surprise for you."
Max saw elliot processing what he had said. He saw the smile spread across the green man's face. Max had reached him, if only a little. Max didn't know the guy all that well, but the young man had a good read of people. Elliot was a good guy, he just hadn't realized it for himself yet.
Max laughed at his joke about sounding like a bad Matt Damon movie and notched an eyebrow at the statement on mediation. Elliot seemed to be trying to explain himself but Max shook his head.
"I got you man," He said jabbing a thumb at himself, "Tai Chi. Life is a circle the good and the bad. It takes both to make ya whole." He added.
He looked into the glowing doors of the resturant and inhaled deeply savoring the scent of baking pancakes.
"Let's eat." He said simply heading for the door.
After a near death encounter all he wanted to think about now was what kind of syrup he wanted on his big pile of flapjacks

Quin gave him a murderous glare. Which when given by a woman with sufficient firearm training was not something to be ignored. She asked him a serious of questions and he looked back over at her from behind the wheel.
"Good questions Quin." He said.
He added a small emphasis on the proper use of her name. It was a small gesture of passivity. Sure irritating a friend was all fun, but Max wasn't an idiot.
"We should be good on law enforcement u less we meet some of the higher ups. Dad is a lawyer, but he didn't mess with beat cops. Richmond is big enough we shouldn't be noticed coming into town and they have enough going in to keep them busy without us." He replied.
The girls exchanged quick explanations of their abilities and Noel offered the support with the law and his family. The familiarity with his parents didn't go unnoticed but Max was way past being uncomfortable about Noel having his memories. At first it had felt like he was being spied on, now instead he tried to look at it like he had simply grown up with an invisible sibling. She had his experiences and knowledge and could relate to how things were at home.
"Having my memories can help you get them to talk. You know them well enough to get them talking and can feel them out-" He agreed before being cut off.
They had left the city and were on the highway as the car blew past them. Normally it would simply be what Max considered bad drivers. This car however flew past with a feverish intensity. The car didn't just pass however it got in front of the SUV and began swerving back and forth in the lane ahead of them. Max felt a surge of tension race through him as a man leaned out of the cars back window wearing a ski mask and began shouting back at them.
Max let out a small chuckle as Janelle expressed her similar issue. "Too plebian" Wow. He felt a sudden comradery forming. He glanced at the crowd around them and smiled. It was funny how many people could be in one space, with similar experiences who never met. He had been lucky enough to meet a girl who might actually understand where he was coming from.
"When I moved to New York I was supposed to be going to Law school. Following the old man's footsteps. Handling the family responsibility. Instead I started to follow a career in performance and my family cut me off." He said simply.
"I think my parents and yours might get along. I spent most of my life in private schools. Or in etiquette classes. Virginia is a little old school on some things. I went to more debutant balls as an escort than I can count." He confessed.
He looked over at the beautiful red head beside him and felt a pang rise up in his chest. She was stunning, gentle, and kind. It wasn't something he was exactly used to.
"I never got horseback riding though. That sounds pretty entertaining." He smirked.
Sveta seemed to get serious at Max's response to her power. He saw a number of emotions flash across her eyes, including what he thought was guilt. She knew she had power, and more importantly that she made others more powerful. It was not a far stretch to believe that some of those people hadn't used that responsibly.
She asked what he had in mind and he smiled as he raised a hand.
"One second." He said walking across the room.
He talked as he walked, "your power is what I'd classify as a support ability. You make others stronger but it doesn't grant you any boosts or powers yourself. It's amazingly useful and powerful when used in cooperation." He explained.
He reached the other side of the long room and pulled out his phone. CLASS had been given a mobile app and it was a blessing. He hit some buttons on his screen and a pedestal rose from the floor. He sat the baseball on it and returned to Sveta.
"What it means though is that in combat or in missions you have to utilize different skills than other mutants. You can make people stronger but it helps little if you get hurt and they have to protect you on missions. It means you have to be smarter, faster, and more agile than everyone else." He explained.
"I'm not much of a fighter." He said, which wasn't a whole lie. He didn't like fighter though he'd become much better at it when he had to.
"My specialty is mobility and speed, and I'm sneaky. So my idea is to work on that." He said
He hit another button on his phone and walls began to rise up and create a maze of hallways behind them. The room became a labyrinth and Mas stood at the entrance.
"I'll stock the room with guards and security cameras and common traps. We make our way to the ball and retrieve it and bring it back here to win." He explained, "Sound good to you?"
He still needed to call up the guards and finish prep but he wanted to give Sveta the general idea before they got started.
