The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

keep me from developing an ego."
Max chuckled as he passed by a few more pedestrians.
"True. Can't put a price on pessimistic criticism. Keeps you honest." He agreed.
Her response to his home brought on a scoff and he shrugged.
"Virginia is pretty, and perfect if you want to live back in 1940. Chock full of sexism, good Ole boys, and beaches. We had beaches at least," He said.
She asked about his plan for making it. Currently he'd been to busy with Haven and solving his own death to work towards the long term.
"Kinda winging it at the moment. I've been in a few shows since I got to the city, nothing spectacular I promise." He continued.
She offered to hook him up with some people and talked about college. Max had wanted to go to school starting in the Summer, but he technically was listed as deceased which made getting admitted and FAFSA even more of a nightmare than usual. He hoped the mess would be sorted soon though.
"That be great. I kept thinking about school. I'm hoping to start in the fall. Double Major in marketing and theater. You know, gotta have those backup plans." He said.
They continued their walk and Max had no idea where they were going.
"So when you aren't painting or going to galas what are you into?" He asked.

Elliot talked about all the gangs in vague generalities. Max senses that beneath the surface Elliot knew a lot more about the groups than he was letting on. He didn't press, no point in it, but thought of how great a resource the green man could be. Haven wanted to help the city, of Elliot joined he could give them a plethora of information on those groups which Haven could use to clean up the streets. Cleaning up the streets would help the community and if some of them were anti mutant as Elliot said it would be worth it to take them down.
Max laughed at Elliot's alien hunter remark.
"So are you really a spaceman or is that just a bit? More curious than anything else, just between us." He asked.
The IHOP was in sight now. The front windows streaming light into the street. He took a breath and smelled the scent of baking pancakes and breakfast foods. It smelled like heaven itself.
"God I'm hungry," He said, "I got to say man its never a dull evening when I run into you."

-"Nice wheels. You ready for this?"
Max looked over and saw Quin approaching. The fact that he wouldn't have recognized her if she hadn't made herself known spoke volumes to her ability to blend. Her hat kept the signature red locks hidden and she was carrying two bags that made Max think that even with his planning she had him beat in the pre planning department.
"Thanks, it's a rental. I'm as ready as I'm gonna be." He replied with a shrug.
He hit the button on his keys to open the back.
"Go ahead and stash your ge-" He began.
Music began pouring out of Max's fanny pack. Rock music and drums ringing out as Fall Out Boy pumped through the air.
"One night and one more time Thanks for the memories even though they weren't so great He tastes like you, only sweeter"
That was Noel's ringtone. Why was she calling him now? He unzipped the pack and pulled out his cell phone.
"One sec Q." He said answering.
He began to speak a greeting when Noel's voice came through the cell in a rush.
-"I would have liked to have known there was a policewoman coming."
She sounded annoyed and Max gave a quizzical look around. He couldn't spot her but she was obviously able to see him. . -"Are we still okay to do this? Is she... awesome?"
Max let out a little sigh.
"Totally. Sure the first time we met she tried to arrest me, but she's been nothing but helpful since. We aren't doing anything illegal on the trip and she's offered to help. It's all good." He said reassuringly, "Sorry I didn't mention it before, slipped my mind in all the planning. Where are you?"
He looked back over at Quin and tilted the phone slightly away from him, the speaker near his ear but the reciever turned away.
"Our third." He explained," She's had some bad experience with some bad cops in the past. Bit skittish, so just try to be..." He searched for the right word, "Nice" He said with a shrug.

Max gave a sagely nod as he followed Shelby as she explained her motives for moving to New York. It made sense, the city had some top notch schools.
"Makes sense. Though I could see the appeal of Paris, went once as a kid. Beautiful city. With your keen eye for color you'd love it." He said as they made it to the door.
"You a native here?"
They had begun to move through the crowded street. Anyone who had lived in New York for long developed the ability to weave through a flowing river of people with ease out of necessity. It was one of those things that at first feels wholly unnatural and difficult to do but quickly becomes a subconscious act.
"Nah, I'm a good Southern Belle. Virginia." He said as they walked, "Moved to the city to take up performance. The community theaters at home are nice but I want the real deal ya know? One day I'm gonna be on Broadway, even if I have to spend my time off, off, off Broadway for now." He chuckled.
"Plus it pissed off my parents." He said with a tone that clearly said that was reason enough on its own.

Max's initial thought when the mound of robes talked was that it was a girl. She returned his apology and stated that she needed her robes. For a moment Max thought of bad Vampire movies. Black eyes and fangs and a need to stay out of the sun. He pushed his mind out of horror movie mode and instead made the much simpler speculation that the girl was a mutant.
"Oh. Got ya." He said giving a thumbs up.
He looked up into the sky for a moment. The sun was sleepily rising but it was deceptive. Once the first rays broke the horizon it wasn't long until full daylight. The Spring had been a hot one so far and Max figured today would be another similar day.
"Where you heading? If you need to avoid Ole man sunshine I can call you a cab." He offered politely.

"I'd take any help I could get though. Like I said, I'm terrible with my hands."
Max let out a laugh and held up his hand in a knowing gesture.
"Now I can't give away all my secrets, but I'll try to help make sure you pass at least. I'll take a look at what you've done and see what I can do." He said.
She asked some more questions about his work, which made Max happy since it told him he wasn't boring her with work talk. Haven was a secret, at least some of its truer intentions were. It meant Max had to be careful what he said, luckily though he did plenty of work for them on the up and up.
"Homeless shelter improvements, blood drives, a little bit of anything. Mostly stuff to help people, not as much the "let's make the park prettier" kind of stuff." He said with a little laugh.
He listened contently as Janelle talked about her school break. Secretly he felt a small wave of elation at the idea that she would be staying in the city. It be such a waste to have a date only to have her leave the next week.
"I didn't end up signing up. Not quite able to swing it for Summer. I'm going in the Fall though already have it figured out." Max said.
The cab pulled up and Max got out. They were at Time Square. It was a frenzy of buildings and people. Billboards flashed images and ads. Street performer were scattered about. Max spotted a pizza stand and pointed at it.
"Wanna grab a slice? I want to show you something while we are here." He said excitedly.

Max parked the car outside of Haven headquarters and exited, swinging the door shut behind him. It was a little after noon and the sun was high in the sky, promising a bright and warm Spring day that didn't reflect Max's mood. He had picked up the rental a bit before lunch, stopped and grabbed enough food amd drinks to feed his makeshift team and made it through the infuriating city traffic in modest time.
His duffle was already in the trunk of the black modest SUV and he leaned against it patiently awaiting his two friends. He had contacted Quin and told her to meet him there and was waiting for Noel to come down so they could leave.
The GPS in the car said it was a six hour drive to Richmond Virginia so if they left soon they would get there before sundown and have time to check into a motel grab some rest and dinner and go to work.
"I'm visiting my own grave, just in time for Memorial Day." He mumbled to himself.
He was tense and nervous. It wasn't in the performing way he was accustomed to. This was the tension of medical tests, a slow constant worry about something he couldn't change. He hadn't slept the night before and he knew he had dark circles under his eyes.
He was dressed non descript, a plain white tee-shirt and jeans and a baseball cap rested on his head. His fanny pack was crammed to the breaking point with anything he could think of that he might have needed. It was his one stop emergency shop and he let out a sigh as the tension in him rose up again.

As they exited the tunnels Max worried that he might have said something wrong. Elliot had gotten increasingly quite, clamping down again. It would be beat not to push. The night had the feel of incredibly early morning, sometime after midnight but before most people considered it a new day.
Elliot countered his food offer with IHOP and it took him a minute to figure out the intent of Max's joke. Something about seeing it dawn on the green man, and his rebuttle about fighting more in a half an hour broke Max. Blame it on the fighting, or the adrenaline but Max started giggling, honest happy giggles that turned into a deep a full laugh. He tried to stop but looking back at Elliot only made him laugh more. He laughed for a few moments and then took a deep breath and wiped away small tears from the corner of his eyes.
"Sorry man. Long night, got a bit slap happy." He said, his face still in a wide grin.
He started walking, the IHOP was a few blocks away but the idea of pancakes kept him motivated.
"Man kicking ass really works up an appetite," He said, "So what are the other major gangs in the city? Just out of curiosity."

Janelle talked about her finals and Max found himself thinking that all the courses sounded incredibly un fun. Biology and chemistry? It sounded like torture to Max and he had to stop himself from reaching out and giving the beautiful red head a pat of condolence on the shoulder.
Sculpture though? That sounded like a good time. Max dabbled in just about any form of art, hell his father still used the little deer paperweight Max had made him back in high school. The antlers had taken hours, but it was good work.
"What's your final in sculpture? I could probably help you out, sometimes getting the clay to form up right takes a bit of working, especially if it's too damp." He offered, "I'm a bit of an art nut."
She asked about his work and he leaned back slightly in the seat of the cab.
"I kinda have two jobs. I live at a place called Haven, well at the headquarters near central park. They are a community enrichment and volunteer company. I ran into the founder when I lived at the mansion and he offered me a place to stay and a job." He explained.
And some therapy, but no need to get into that on a first date.
"There is a members only club, Inferno, on the first floor. So most days I work on volunteer projects and then at night I go and wait tables. You should come check out the club someday. I'm allowed a guest and I don't work every night." He said with a smile.
"So when finals are over do you just hang out at the mansion, or do you go visit your parents between terms?" He asked.

Max let out a laugh at Shelby's statement and noted the fact she was from Seattle for later conversation. He was only slightly surprised that she had agreed. He figured normally a request like he had made would have came across as a line, and a rather bad one at that. The fact that she had agreed meant she really was enjoying his company, sometimes you couldn't tell with artists, or at least she wasn't so annoyed with him to refuse the glorious java.
Either way Max was pretty content as he gave a little nod as she asked him to hold on.
"Take your time." He said off handedly.
See, there was always something to do in the city. As he stood waiting he decided Shelby was good people, he didn't know her all that well true, but he was usually good at gauging people. It was also when his chivalrous side started to step up to the plate.
If Max had one weakness it was women, not in the pervy way, more in the "women are beautiful creatures that deserve respect and protection". It was a somewhat outdated mentality, and logically made little sense, but whenever Max met a woman he couldn't help himself, he would walk through fire to have their back. It gotten him in plenty of trouble before, but for tonight it seemed like things would be fine.
She returned a quick moment later, sneakers in place of heels and her hands were at her hair attempting to do something with it. He grinned.
"Have you got a place in mind already? Cuz I know a place not too far from here that makes a killer mocha."
Max gave a deep playful bow and swept his hand towards the door.
"Lead on, Madam Mocha," He said with a playful laugh.
He rose and began to follow her out, keeping in step with her but out of elbow range as she put her hair up.
"So what triggered the move from Seattle to NYC?" He asked not wanting to let conversation lull.

Ugh. So much ugh.
The sun was only just starting to rise, dawn barely sleepily winking it's way into existance, and Max was still awake. He basically dragged himself along the sidewalk by force of will alone as he made his way to the twenty four hour Quick Mart.
He'd worked all night, and been forced to pull double duty on clean up crew since one of the staff had not shown up at the club last night. He had dragged himself upstairs content to take a shower and go to sleep, but he didn't have any shampoo left. He probably could have called the front desk about it, but it seemed like such a prissy thing to do. So instead he had hauled himself back downstairs and out the door. He still wore his black servers shirt and smock.
He was so groggy that as he rounded a corner he almost collided with what he first assumed was a rather tall pile of laundry. He tried to halt himself but just ended up sidestepping his way into the things path. It was then that he realized it was a person, someone wearing robes. He looked at the slit in the robe and saw cold black dead eyes and repressed a shiver.
"Sorry. I'm not quite awake yet," He apologized, "How do you not burn up in those robes, it's Spring?" He blurted out stupidly.

Max whistled cheerfully as he rose the elevator into the subterranean complex of Haven. He had been hitting CLASS hard since joining Haven, wanting to push himself and prepare himself for anything. His first run through with Agnes had taught him a lot, and ended with him having a series of stings and bruises that had been hard reminders of those lessons.
Since then he'd started to get better and as the doors opened and he walked to the entrance of CLASS he felt a familiar excitement. He'd been asked to pair of with Sveta on her first run through and he was looking forward to it. She had been pleasant company at the gala and he had liked her well enough.
He entered wearing his black Haven shirt and camo army pants. His fanny pack was strapped to him full of his makeshift arsenal. He had crammed a ton of various tools, snacks, medical supplies, his metal yo yos, rolls of quarters, and just about anything else he thought he would ever need. On his back was a a duffle bag.
He saw Sveta and gave a wave. She looked wonderful even in workout clothes. Some woman had that talent. He imagined he could pass her a nuns outfit and somehow she would still be driving anyone with the slightest bit of libido crazy. Haven tended to be full of beautiful women, especially at Inferno so Max was slowly learning how to keep his tongue in his mouth whenever he saw them. It got a little easier with time.
"Thanks for coming. Looking forward to getting some training in." He said dropping the duffle.
"You got anything in particular you want to work on?" He asked.
CLASS could do about anything. Make a ton of environments and scenarios. Unlike in his first training however, Max wanted to take it slow.
"Maybe we should go over each other's abilities so we have a good idea of what we are capable of. You said you boost powers by touch right?" He asked.
Devon walked in with a warm greeting, he was decked out in his customary suit. Max by contrast was wearing his Haven tee-shirt and jeans. It might have seemed a bit under dressed given the situation but he had done it intentionally. Michael was a soldier, a practical guy. Devon could rep the business professional look all day long, Max was going to cover casual. If things went south he could at least pull a hail mary.
"How goes it boss?" He said with a playful smile.
Devon was a nice guy, he had been kind to Max and given him opportunities he couldn't have dreamed of. Since joining Haven he had made it a point to poke at Devon with the nickname "Boss." Devon wasn't a bossy man, hell he was as laid back as Max. But it was all in good fun.
"All the papers are in files on the table ready to go." He added.
The door opened a moment later and Michael appeared. Max took a long swish of coke and rose as Michael offered his hand. Max stayed back letting Devon take the lead. This was their deal after all.

Food? A woman after his own heart already. Max's stomach made a little gurgling noise at the thought. He hadn't eaten lunch that day.
"Sounds great." He answered.
He smiled as she talked about finals. He liked to say he hoped very much that he would be talking to her next week about finals, but seemed a bit too desperate. He would wind up in that boat himself soon enough when he started school. For now he had to settle for life risking missions, murder mystery, and worst of all nighttime waiter work.
"I'm sure you'll make it through. What kind of finals does a botanist take," He asked, "my weeks been good. Havens had me buried in paperwork getting deals together and the club has been pretty busy. Can't complain about good tips though."
The cab cruised along headed towards time square and Max looked out the window. He loved the city, the lights and billboards. It was a hub of activity.

It was only after a few short moments of waiting that Max heard a pleasant female voice from the other side of the gate.
"Fancy meeting you here."
He had a clever retort ready as the gate opened but one look at Janelle and it died before reaching his lips. She looked great, he fought to keep his jaw from dropping. The skirt and top were modest yet still showed off her body well. The skirt revealed a decent amount of leg and Max approved. If he were a cartoon character his eyes would be the size of dinner plates and there would be a heart shaped object burst back and forth in his chest.
"I hope you weren't waiting too long."
"Well worth the wait." He grinned, offering his arm.
He headed towards the street and threw out a hand to stop a cab. As the vehicle pulled up he grabbed the door and opened it for his date.
"Anything in particular you want to do?" He asked.
He got in and told the cabby where to go before looking back at the red head.
"So how was the rest of your week?" He asked conversationaly.
