The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Had the three members from the room below been able to see Luke's expression they would have noticed the very obvious frown. Had the three of them completed the mission? Yes, yes, and yes. Had they worked as a team?
Sighing to himself, Luke stood up and walked to the exit door. Stepping out he descended the stairs and made his way across the warehouse to where the three stood facing each other. "Computer, end program." Luke said evenly, keeping his frustration completely in check as the warehouse disappeared from view, replaced by the sparse interior of the danger room.
"OK, let's make this quick so that we don't ruin the moment." Luke spoke with a tight smile as he turned his sunglass covered gaze back and forth, focusing on one after the other. "Jewel, you're obviously not the most experienced in combat situations but you were willing to take instruction from the other members of your team that knew more about what they're doing. Everyone has to start somewhere and a willingness to listen and learn is one of the most important skills anyone can have."
Giving his thoughts and opinions on each persons performance was part of what Sam had wanted him to do, even if he didn't like it. He was dreading the last one he had to give but for now, "Alexandra, you worked with your team, adapting to the situation as best you could with the information that was provided. You may have been caught off guard, but you recovered nicely."
And now for the big man. Obviously his file and power abilities were going to he to be updated with what Luke had just seen. He really was quite a powerful mutant but Luke really didn't care for his attitude. "Kaz, you pulled off the mission easily. You overpowered your opponents and rendered them unconscious apparently without even breaking a sweat. To be blunt, you're probably one of the most powerful mutants I've ever seen, and I don't give a damn. The X-Men work as a team. If you're assigned to work with someone, you respect them as a fellow team member. You could crush me if you and I got into a fight and for solo work that might be fine, but if you want to be part of a team then you need to learn to respect your team, whatever their capabilities."
Luke doubted that his words would have any impact on the much larger man but giving vent to them make him feel much better at least. "You all passed this test. You'll be contacted by another team member when your next test is ready. You can all go."

The handshake was firm and Oliver looked directly in Sara's eyes with a smile. He was doing his best not to show the discomfort he was feeling and hopefully Sara would overlook it because of his explanation earlier. After all, even she had admitted that her looks took some getting used to!
"Take care of yourself Sara. I'll contact you if I get any information that could help you and Luke."
Oh yes, he was a silver tongued devil. A better liar and trickster you could never find... or at least that's what he kept trying to tell himself. Unfortunately it is exremely difficult if not impossible to make the human body accept the lies that the mind creates. Something about teh body makes it want to tell the truth by exuding more perspiration, increasing the heart beat, and so many other signs. Of course those could also be read as nervousness but that was beside the point.
After the goodbyes the feline finally left and Oliver sat back down with an internal sigh of relief. Digging into a cabinet behind his desk he removed a small glass as well as a large bottle of whiskey. "Celebrate... I'm celebrating." He murmured as his shaky hand tried to pour the amber liquid. He refused to admit that he needed to settle his nerves. After all, that just didn't fit the image of a silver tongued devil, now did it.

Luke smiled as he felt Raina lean in closer and after a few moments her breathing evened out as she apparently drifted off to sleep. Leaning back into the cushions of his seat Luke relaxed a little bit more and ran through what little he knew about Australia.
"The Land Down Under", known for its Kangaroos and Koalas out in the country. It was a thriving tourist country with lots of vacation hot spots including the Great Barrier Reef and all the 'unofficial' as well as 'legel' nude beaches. Animal life thrived in the nutrient rich waters around the island and their stringent laws protected it as a natural resource.
"Australia... who would have thought." Luke mused as he settled in for his own nap, "We're turning into world travelers."

The one great thing about sleeping on a flight is that the time races by. The bad thing is the strange aches and pains you get in your neck and back from sleeping in positions your not accustomed to. But even the aches and pain could be overlooked when the destination was so exciting.
With a bag slung over his shoulder, his girlfriend on his arm, and one of the most exotic locations in front of him, Luke felt like the luckiest man in the world as he walked away from the plane. This was probably as close to paradise as it got.

"I'll see about contacting Ms. Altair and inviting her to the event. I'm sure she'll be glad to attend the opening of a medical clinic." Luke replied with a broad smile. This was deffinately something that would be right up Ghost's alley and he couldn't wait to invite her. Not only would she be asked to join a group of businesses with pro-mutant hiring policies but she's be attending the opening of a clinic that would help injured people. How could she possibly say no?
"I'll keep sounding out some of my business associates to see if anyone else is interesting and I'll let you know. Thank you very much for thinking of my company so quickly."
It was a good feeling to finally be in a time of his life when things were going well. His abilities were back, his relationship with Raina was on track, and his plans for contacting the Sanctuary was moving quite smoothly. Now with Slate as a potential ally Luke was beginning to wonder if anything could go wrong. At least for now it seemed like he was walking on easy street.

While his beautiful red haired girlfriend was looking through brochure after brochure, Luke was just relaxing. Her head was leaning against his shoulder while his own head was leaning back against the seat cushion with his eyes closed and a contented smile on his face. Sure, things between the two of them might not have been back to where they used to be but it was deffinately an improvement from what they had been dealing with over the past few weeks.
"Meeting another blind mutant would deffinately be different." Luke replied with a soft chuckle, "But, with that sort of concentration of similar mutations, do you think it has something to do with their environment? Maybe something there is encouraging their mutations to manifest in this certain way?"
It was an interesting puzzle and Luke was happy to be dealing with a relatively easy subject. He was also happy to be on a trip where he wouldn't really need to be working. Raina had been the one sent out on the investigation and he was just along for the ride. There would be no board meetings, no late night business dinners, or anything else to interupt them!
"Hmmm... with the area we're going to, sounds like I just need to wrap you up inside a giant bubble to keep you safe!" Luke laughed before pressing a kiss against Raina's short hair, "I'm sure you already knew that Australia has one of the highest shark populations of anywhere in the world!"

"I think I can arrange a meeting." Luke replied with a smile, "Should I just contact you at Mondragon Labs when the arrangements are made?"
Ghost was a good woman and Luke knew she would love an opportunity like this. He would deffinately have to forwarn her about Slate's appearance so that she didn't go on the defensive like he had but hopefully she would be as accepting and tolerant of Slate as she seemed to be of everyone else.
Focusing on the idea of the meeting itself, Luke's mind raced through the mental schedule he tried to keep. He had meetings the rest of the day and some important things going on the next day but after that he was free for at least a little while. Hopefully that would be enough warning for Ghost so that they could arrange a get together. "I'll probably try to get us all together within the next two or three days." Luke offered, his attention refocusing on Slate with his own danish all but forgotten on the plate in front of him, "Would you like to invite your aquaintance to the meeting as well? Then we could make the offer to both of them at the same time."

She was taking it! The missions was a success and as the feline monstrosity looked down at the small device in her hands, Oliver felt his smile broaden ever so slightly. He would most deffinately have to have a celebratory brandy whenever she left. Maybe he'd even call up that number and see if Valarie, or whatever her name was, was available. This most deffinately deserved a celebration after all!
"I can't think of anything else. Thank you very much Sara. I know this has to mess up your schedule but I really appreciate it." Oliver said with a smile as he stood and held out a hand as a gesture to seal the deal, "I'll of course be glad to pay you for your time just let me know how many hours you have to spend on this."
It was an easy offer to make and it slid off of Oliver's silver tongue without the slightest hesitation. After all, if he had his way she would never be able to claim a single check. No, things were most deffinately looking up!

"I hope they're running out of sources, but at least it'll be a comfort knowing a powerful being like yourself is watching Luke's back." Oliver said with a smile, doing his best to look appreciative but not overeager, "And, I know it's old technology, but would you mind carrying this beeper?"
Reaching into his desk drawer he pulled out the little black box and held it out for Sara, "That'll just let me get in touch with you without making it obvious to Luke that someone is monitoring him."
The plan had come full circle and though he kept smiling, Oliver could feel his breath freeze in his lungs. If she didn't take the beeper then the whole plan would be lost. If she did take it, well, his employees would have a leg up during their next attempt.

"I actually know the owner of the Full Circle book store. I'm sure that Ms. Altair would be very tempted by the offer." Luke replied with a slight smile. There was no reason to mention that he was an investor in her enterprise and there was no reason to explain to Slate that he and Ghost were actually friends. No, Ghost was trying to build up a respectable life under the name of Vega Altair and he wasn't going to take that away from her. Besides, how often did a person really get the chance to reinvent themselves like that?
"I'll put out some feelers with my business contacts. I can't think of anyone right off the top of my head but I'm sure there are plenty of sympathetic individuals if we can just find them. And of course it'll help once the alliance is announced pubicly. People that we hadn't even considerd will start approaching with the desire to join."
It was a standard part of any sort of conglomeration of businesses and while Luke had never participated himself, he had spoken with those who had. The key to this apparent alliance was that it wasn't being formed to benefit its parent companies. No, it was being formed in order to help that masses of employable mutants that were just looking for an opportunity.
"Would you prefer for me to contact Ms. Altair alone or would you like come along with me?" Luke asked as he returned to focusing on the first step toward his new objective, "Whichever you prefer will be fine with me."

"Normal, heh. Yeah right." Oliver thought to himself while doing his best to maintain the current expression on his face. Thankfully that half smile with a touch of uneasines was always close at hand when a mutant was nearby so it wasn't much of a struggle.
"Shawn, Sam, and Raina." He murmured to himself, writing the information down on a pad. He waited a few moments, acting as though what Sara had finally said wasn't completely clicking and then he looked up with just the right mixture of curiosity and hope.
"Could you really? I know that Luke trusts you and it would really put my mind at ease to know you were nearby. I'll give some of his friends a call of course, but if you could keep an eye on him for a while, I'd really appreciate it!"
The kitty cat had lept right into his trap and Oliver had to hold himself back from jumping with glee. He had almost accomplished his goal. There was just one more step...

"He was masquerading as a UPS delivery bird. Big crow like mutant. If you ever meet him, I'm sure you'll recognize him." Luke replied with a tight smile, still utterly clueless that a certain animal morpher was the one responsible for all the violence on that day. Focusing on the young woman with him, Luke let the rest of his popcorn lay forgotten in the bowl as he realized that things were finaly moving where he wanted them to go. Whether she was honest about wanting open lines of communication was beside the point. As long as she was willing to introduce him to someone or at the very lease give him a name to ask for, Luke would call this meeting a success.
"It maybe not be popular with some of the members but surely some of the leaders would be willing to talk." Luke observed, trying to focus on the positive, "You wouldn't happen to have any idea who might be open for that sort of approach, would you?"
Over the battles he had been in, Luke has seen plenty of the Sanctuary residents but he knew only a few of them by name. The big red guy was Abyss, according to the mansion scuttlebut and bone girl was called Isabel. Beyond that, Luke knew about a shadow jumper, a giant, and an earth manipulator but he didn't know any other names. Oh, and then there was the girl he'd seen at the brawl that could make some sort of energy field or something. Really it didn't matter who any of those people were, what did matter was who in the leadership he could talk to.

Slate might turn out to be the ultimate business man and a wonderful CEO but he was definitely lacking when it came to the brotherly love department. His comment about not worrying about Calley earned a slight raise of Luke's eyebrow but other than that he held his reaction in check. Now that the younger man was being directed toward the business side of the conversation it was time to pay close attention.
Taking another bite of his danish, Luke chewed slowly and thoughtfully as he considered Slate's explanation. An alliance or coalition of companies that joined together in a public pledge for fairness and non-discriminatory practices was definitely tempting. It was the way that Luke believe all companies should be run and perhaps if he, Slate, and several others made that first step they could inspire others to join them. That was the ultimate goal in what the X-Men were trying to do wasn't it? Promote peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants? An opportunity like this would do as much good if not even more than all of the missions that Luke had participated in and heard about thus far.
"Some people say that mutants are the next step in evolution. The species that will wipe out humans and take control of the planet." Luke said quietly one he had swallowed his bite of food, "They compare us to animals that fight and tear into each other for almost no reason over things like food and territorial rights. Perhaps they're right about some people but I prefer to think that we are above the animals. We can reason and have moral beliefs that hold us in check. There's no reason for one species to always wipe out the other. If its possible to co-exist peacefully then I think that's what we need to do."
Nodding slowly Luke's lips spread into a small smile. Yes, this was the right decision. "I'd be honored to be a part of this alliance. Do you have any other companies in mind for us to approach?"

Oliver watched the feline carefully, mentally cursing over the fact that she wasn't making this easy on him. Most people would have immediately offered their own assistance in watching Luke's back but obviously she wasn't like most people. He would have to watch her even more closely to learn how she ticked before any future moves could be made.
"Xavier's Sister School?" Oliver asked, feigning ignorance as best he could, "I've heard of them in the papers of course but I don't really know anything about them. Do you know anyone that I could contact? Perhaps someone that Luke would trust?"
The ultimate goal was to get Sara to stick close to Luke as much as possible but if he were able to gather some other intelligence as well then Oliver would consider the meeting even more successful.
"Please forgive me if I seem at all nervous." Oliver added, doing his best to cover it up if this creature happened to sense something wrong about his attitude, "Even being open minded, I must admit it's difficult to get used to the fact that I'm talking with a young woman that looks like a lion that has learned to walk upright and talk. Please don't let my own instincts offend you."

"Yes. I was born blind and my ability manifested itself when I was a teenager." Luke replied as he reached over and refilled his own water glass before selecting the danish that appeared to be one of the most moist. There were other good options but this one seemed to carry his sonar quite well which hopefully meant it wasn't dried out yet. "It's a sixth sense that covers a full 360 degrees."
After setting the danish down on his plate, Luke lifted his sunglass covered eyes to look in Slate's direction. "Did your brother ever happen to mention how we met? He's actually the one that first took me over to the mansion. Even notified me when there was going to be a meeting over there." Turning his attention back down to the cherry and cheese danish Luke lifted it with one hand and poised it near his mouth. "It was strange to see him on the other side after all of that. I guess I just wish I knew his reasoning."
The pastry was just the right balance of flakiness and doughiness with the cheese cutting the sweetness of the fruit perfectly. On any other day Luke would have spent that moment savoring the flavors but today it was more like chalk in his mouth. Swallowing his bite he set the rest of the danish back on his plate, appetite momentarily gone.
"But I'm sure you didn't set up this meeting so we could discuss your brother." Luke said, his voice taking on a bit more of a business like tone mixed with just a tinge of curiosity, "What is it that I can do for you?"

"Yes, well, Luke's loyalty is one of his best attributes as well as one of his worst weaknesses. That's actually why I called you here today. Let me explain." Oliver said slowly, carefully weighing each word in his head before speaking. On the one hand it might come across as he was trying to mislead the feline but on the other hand it could just be looked on as befitting a serious conversation. Obviously this wasn't something that Oliver was taking lightly so that meant he had to be truly concerned about something, or at least, that's what he wanted Sara to think.
"After hearing about some of Luke's situations, I've been to think that my nephew is forgetting about his own safety in his desire to help others. Now, quite obviously there's nothing wrong with helping others. I applaud his actions and his desire to help both his fellow man and fellow mutant but he must think about his own safety. As you've already seen, Luke's actions have made him even more enemies than they have friends."
Looking at Sara, Oliver did his best to try and judge her reaction. Her curiosity had been obvious a few moments earlier so the key was to tease and toy with the cat until she pounced right where he wanted her. The visualization of a cat stalking a piece of yarn before finally pouncing only to be seized up in the arms of a master was quite comical and he had to work hard to hide any amusement that was fighting to come to the surface. Whether Sara knew it or not, Oliver would soon be the master while she became the helpless little kitten.
"Luke needs someone nearby to watch his back. He would never consent to hiring any sort of body guard or security but he wouldn't think twice about one of his friends hanging out with him every so often. I don't really know many of his friends and I was wondering if perhaps you might have some suggestions."
