The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"You just go with whatever you think is best Kealey." Luke replied with a grin in the blond's direction, "If you don't think a coat will work then leave that off. I'm curious to see what you come up with."
But now the focus was on Shin and his future costume. From the comments it sounded as though he was talking about actually making a costume pieced together from the shards he controlled. Raising an eyebrow Luke tried to imagine how that might look. "Would you be able to keep your shards completely smooth up against your body?" He asked, simply going along with what he assumed was correct, "If you didn't then that could prove painful for a uniform."
As for leather pants, Luke didn't care for wearing the tight leather pants that seemed to be so popular in the night club scene but he had to admit that much of his current costume was made of leather. Leather was just such a strong and durable material that it made sense. Especially if the leather was then lined with protective armor and a softer cloth to keep any skin from chafing.
"Leather works pretty good for fighting. I should know."

"No, I'm fine for now. I'll wait to get a drink until after I meet your friend." Luke replied, squaring his shoulders and following Sara the rest of the way up the stairs. Was he still nervous about meeting up with a large dog? Most definitely but he wasn't going to let his fear stop him. He had never before let fear stop him from accomplishing a mission and while the press had never given him any of those silly tag lines like 'The Man Without Fear' or some nonsense he knew that his demons had to be faced. Like Sara had already said, what if he had to get in someplace where german shepards or pit bulls were on guard duty?
"Uncle Oliver is Uncle Oliver." Luke replied dryly. He and his only surviving family member had never really gotten along and after Luke's takeover of the company their conversation had dropped back to almost nothing which was fine with Luke. Uncle Oliver had never acted like he wanted to have anything to do with him so and after years of trying Luke was fine with maintaing the status quo. "I haven't had much contact with him since I've been over in Europe but Deborah has kept me up to date on him a little. He's been trying to quietly buy of shares in the company to try and take back control but since I'm not selling any of my shares it's not an issue."
"But what about you? How have things been going in your life over the last year?"

Luke felt like he was in a race with a ticking clock and the dangling woman was the prize. Either he would arrive in time or the woman would fall to her death. Picking up the pace Luke once again found himself wishing that he had Sara's ability for speed. SHE would have already been up these stairs and grabbing the woman long ago but Luke was just a mortal man. Sure he had sonar to see with but he didn't actually have any special physical attributes to help him in a situation like this.
"I'm coming! Just keep holding on! I'm almost there!" Luke yelled from one floor below as he turned the corner and raced up the next flight of stairs on the fire escape. There.... there was the window that would be his entry point but there wasn't time to waste with kicking or punching it in. Still half a flight away, Luke's sonic blast shot out again, shattering glass and tearing away security bars to leave him a clear hole to dive through.
"You guys alright?" Sam called from back down on the ground level.
There was no time to pause to call down in response if Luke actually wanted to make it in time to reach Fade and the Rainwoman so for the moment he stayed silent. Diving through the window he tucked into a roll and came back up to his feet, still running. With his sonar he navigated the corridors until finally he skidded to a stop at the window that Fade had been working toward. It was somewhat unnerving to see part of the woman's feet sticking out on this side of the wall while he knew everything else was on the other side. Doing his best to ignore it, Luke threw open the window and leaned outside so that Fade could see him.
"I'm right here Fade... can you reach far enough for me to grab her?"
(OOC: Feel free to have Luke grab the girl or do whatever you feel is best for the situation. I trust you to make a good decision. ;-))

As Luke crouched behind the car he could feel that things were beginning to turn in his favor. First off, the rain had stopped falling and already the clouds were beginning to dissipate. Apparently Fade had taken care of Rainwoman which meant that without clouds Mr. Lightning would have to use his own internal energy instead of what was being supplied by the heavens. His opponent was charging yet another blast but from out of nowhere several balls of ice suddenly hit the man's back and legs. While not enough to actually throw him off his feet it was more than enough to make him spin around and assess this new threat.
"You're welcome!" Sam's voice was ringing out at the very same moment that Luke was on his feet and charging his enemy. While the distraction didn't last for long it was just enough. The surprise on the man's face as he turned back around to meet Luke's fist was enough to make any fighter's heart merry. As 'Sparky' stumbled back, Luke was already pivoting with his leg lashing out in a roundhouse kick that caught the side of the man's head. The crunch of what had to be a dislocated jaw was noticeable and the results were all the predictable. Eyes rolling into the back of the head and collapsing ended Luke's engagement.
Standing upright once again, Luke swept the area with his sonar. A quick assessment showed that Sam was well in control of his fight while Fade seemed to be in a somewhat precarious position. She had won but was now awkwardly trying to find a way to rescue her opponent. "And that's what makes her an X-Man." Luke thought proudly.
And now it was decision time. Who did he help? Well, why not both. Focusing his sonar on Sam's enemy he waited for a moment when the two began to separate and then he sent a sonic blast toward the wind-mancer's unprotected back. "Paybacks!" Luke yelled to the ice-man as he took off running for the building that Fade was hanging from.
"Help's on the way!" He called up to Fade as he lept up, grabbing the ladder that would start his progression up the fire escape, "Hang on!"

While slow, Luke was making steady progress toward his target when the rain suddenly changed to hail. Thankfully they were still small but for someone that didn't control ice they were still painful.
"Forgot how strong you make some of these guys!" Luke heard Sam call out through the sound of the hail and wind. Grinning slightly under his mask Luke didn't bother to shout a reply of his own. Wasn't it interesting that Sam had been the one worried about Luke being rusty but now he was the one commenting on how difficult the opponents were.
Suddenly Luke felt more than saw yet another bolt of lighting fly past his position. Leaping to his feet he suddenly charged out from cover but even as he took the first few steps he knew he had made the wrong decision. The first bolt had been a feint to draw him out and the electric-mancer held another charge in his right hand. Before Luke could do anything the energy was flying his direction, sizzling hail and atmosphere as it came at him. Reacting completely on instinct Luke released a sonic blast of his own while dropping into a crouch. The pressure of sound pushing molecule against molecule created a solid wall that the bolt slammed into, dispersing in a flash of light and sparks that was reminiscent of fireworks.
Climbing back to his feet Luke once again charged forward but then without warning his pace slowed as he noticed a strange feeling all around him. His hair was starting to stand on end and the air felt charged.
"Gotcha." The man said with cold satisfaction as the clouds above them released a bolt of cloud-to-ground lightening. This time it was all Luke could do to dive to the side and void the blast. Right where he had been standing the pavement was now liquefied from the amount of heat and power that had been applied to it.
"Maybe I went a little overboard this time!" Luke yelled up to Sam as he tried to slow his heart rate down to a more manageable level from his shelter behind the last parked car he would be able to hide behind. "Now... how do I get closer?" Luke pondered as the lightening flashed overhead, the very heavens seems to cry their outrage at his narrow escape.

Kealey was really serious about this and Luke actually found himself wondering how many costumes she had designed for the other X-Men. Was the whole team full of her handiwork or were they only being used by a few select individuals?
"I've been wearing a bodysuit with a cowl and visor for some time." Luke admitted, as he tried to remember of Shin had seen his costume before. He thought that the younger man had but he couldn't really be sure. "No spandex but it does some have body armor built in. I can always show it to you if you think it would help your process at all."
And it looked like the coat was going to be non-existent. He had kind of liked that idea but what she was saying made sense. Using a staff for fighting could be problematic if some wayward fabric could grab hold of it and throw him off his game.
Shin had fallen quiet and Luke turned his face toward the young man with a slightly questioning expression, "Did Kealey design your uniform Shin? When I left, I don't remember you having any sort of uniform yet."

"Multiple drinks... check." Luke confirmed before noticing Sam tapping his face. Was there something there he should notice? Focusing his sonar on just the ice-man, Luke suddenly found the eye patch and immediately a stream of questions flooded his mind. What had happened? Could he have stopped it if he'd just been there? Firmly pushing them aside, Luke turned his focus back on the situation at hand as well as the young woman that would be helping. Catching up and drinks were later... training was now.
"Oh, I think the invisibility works better than you realize." Luke commented with a slight smile, "And if you have the ability to phase through solid objects then you should be able to disappear from my sonar easy enough. You'll just have to work on staying in a phase state for extended periods of time."
Thankfully Fade was on his side because Luke really didn't want to think about the idea of an enemy that could hide from him completely. Sure he wasn't the most powerful member of the X-Men, far from it actually, but his strength came from being able to track opponents in situations when not many others could. It gave him a place on the team as a good counter-intelligence operative but as much as he tried to put himself in front line combat that really wasn't where he fit. Sure, he could battle criminals but fighting other mutants? That was a little much for someone with his particular abilities.
Turning back toward the approaching enemy, Luke extended his sonar to its maximum range so he could monitor what was going on. "Rusty?" He said with mock indignation, "I'll just have to demonstrate how rusty I am!"
Rain-woman was hanging back, apparently just trying to keep the situation nice and slippery. Wind-man was actually hovering in the air, apparently using his abilities to give himself flight as he approached the battle while Mr. Lightening was already charging up his hands for the first attacks.
"Stay out of the puddles if at all possible since they'll only make the electricity worse." Luke said as he began to move toward the edge of the building that they were standing on, "Sam, you should be able to reach the airborne enemy while I keep the shocker busy. Fade, maybe you can slip around to the rain lady and shut her down before she makes the conditions to unbearable."
Not bothering to wait for a response Luke took a running leap off of the building, somersaulting through the air before catching onto a flagpole that jutted out from the neighboring building. As he swung around the pole and released himself toward a nearby fire escape he couldn't help but smile. THIS was where he belonged. Fighting along side his friends in the city he called home.
Finally landing on the street, Luke took cover behind a parked car as the very first of what promised to be many lightening balls flew past. Moving out of cover, Luke moved along a zigzag route, darting from hiding spot to hiding spot. It took time but steadily he was moving closer to the lightening mutant. The battle was about to get heated.

Luke had to admit that he was slightly impressed. Kealey wasn't just going for something that looked good but she was actually trying to come up with something that was functional and met his own unique needs. He wasn't sure that he'd actually take her advice when the whole thing was done but it was definitely interesting to hear her thoughts on the subject.
Lifting a hand he pulled off his sunglasses to reveal the sightless, cloudy blue/white eyes that were locked in Kealey's general direction though not directly on her. He had yet to master completely looking in someones face but he didn't think it really mattered. Most people had no desire to look into his eyes anyway.
"I keep track of my surroundings through a type of sonar so movement is actually less distracting to me than it is for most people. Unless someone is hiding behind a surface that completely reflects sound waves, I can still see what's going on behind it, though not quite as clearly as if there were no object impeding the sound." Luke said with a slight smile, trying to give the woman as much information to work with as possible. She and Shin were joining an elite club that would actually have a very good idea of how his ability worked. Up until now it had only been Raina, Sara, and Sam but now these two were being given membership cards. Though they didn't know it, they really needed to feel honored.
"I'm skilled in Bartitsu, which combines boxing, kick-boxing, and stick combat. Mainly I use that but I've been getting more experience with the use of sonic blasts to knock my opponents off their feet or even knock them out." Luke continued to explain. The sonic blasts were still more of an after thought, especially since he knew that danger of using that ability to much. Shin had seen him when he completely lost his sonar ability because of using the blasts to much and it was an experience that he didn't particularly want to repeat. Even though he was visually blind, the memory of complete blindness was still unnerving.

Luke had seen the Abyss clones in battle but he'd never talked to them or even learned that they were brothers with very different personalities. No, Kealey and Shin knew far more about them than Luke ever wanted to know. What really mattered was that for the most part they were willing to sit in the background until it was time for a major battle and then they joined in with all of their brothers in arms. "And if I never face them in battle again, it will be to soon."
For a moment Luke was frozen and completely flabbergasted as Kealey grabbed on excitedly to a point he had never considered. Suit? Didn't everyone already know he had a suit? Except of course, he'd been thinking about giving it up but really... was now a time to be considering that? For a brief moment Luke was hoping the subject would shift on to Alexandra but with Shin's statement to the negative he knew that it was a lost cause. A new suit, costume, or uniform was in the works and apparently nothing could hold back the tides of progress.
"I'm curious to hear what you're thinking." Luke said slowly, turning his sunglass covered gaze on the blond woman, "I've worn something in the past but maybe it is time for a change."
He didn't really want to admit it but a part of him really was curious. Would he still have a mask over his face? Would there be some sort of visor or just plain sunglasses? Would it be leather? Cloth? God help her if she was thinking spandex! There were some lines that a man just didn't cross.

"I think it'll be fun." Luke replied with a slight smile, "It's been way to long since I fought beside my friends in either the danger room or the outside world. It's a good time to flex my muscles agains as they say."
Turning away from the woman, Luke focused his attention on his approaching friend. If someone had asked him who his best friend here at mansion was before he left town, he would have had to pick Sam. Sure, Raina had been his love and best female friend, but Sam was the best guy friend he could have asked for. True to a fault people would have described him but Luke wouldn't have it any other way.
Lost in his reverie, Luke failed to notice Sam's quickening pace or the tensing of his muscles that might have saved him from an impact. As he flew backwards with Sam's shoulder planted in his chest it was a good reminder that you could never let your guard down.
"Sorry... I will say you have been a hard man to track down." Luke said through a few coughs as he worked to get his breath back. Grabbing Sam's hand he allowed himself to be pulled up before grabbing the other man in a quick friendly hug.
"Well, now that I'm back I expect you to tell me everything I missed out on. We'll go out for drinks or something, but for now..." Luke's breath was back and it was time to focus on what they were about to face. Sure, battling like this was a little bit cheeseball but it was also good experience and battlefield trust was one of the strongest that could ever be formed.
"Fade wandered it and so I invited her to join us. Did you hear the rundown I gave her on our opponents?" Luke asked as the wind began to blow even more strongly. The enemy mutants were drawing closer and the battle was only moments away. If they were going to plan a strategy it had to be done now.

Who would have ever thought that Sara would be the one trying to talk sense into Luke. Most people, had they been willing to bet, probably would have put money down that Luke would be trying to talk sense into Sara, not the other way around.
"I give up." Luke replied with a slight chuckle as he threw up his hands in mock exasperation, "You're right... I'm being totally irrational but for some reason fears are rarely rational. I know that dogs are less dangerous than most people I can ever deal with and I know that even if a dog did attack me I could probably take it down with a sonic blast. But even though my conscious mind knows those facts, my subconscious mind refuses to accept them."
Pausing, Luke listened as Sara gave her last thoughts on humans and he found himself wondering what in the world he could say to that. He wanted to tell her that was an exaggeration and she was really only talking about a small percentage of people but unfortunately then he would have been telling a lie. He knew just as well as she did that most people tried to manipulate those around them. Some were far better at it than others but everyone tried their skills at manipulation from time to time. Even he, Luke Jacobs, had been guilty of it on more than one occasion.
"That's why it's important to find real friends that you can spend time with." Luke found his voice by focusing on the things that he really believed in. Friendship, trust, and truth were what kept people going and if you couldn't find those things then you were completely alone. "Friends are there for you. There's no pretense and there's no manipulation just someone that'll listen to you when you need to talk and stand by you when you need someone to lean on. That's all you can really ask for in life, isn't it."

"I'll take who that really good friend could be under advisement." Luke replied with the best smile he could offer. Yeah... he couldn't think of anything that he would disrobe for and ask them to check for tattoos. Especially since, from what he had heard, the gluteus maximus was a popular place for tatts. No, this was going to have to stay a mystery for at least the forseeable future.
So Shin had discovered how it felt to have a visible mutation. Luke knew how it felt, though not as well as some. The people he worked with in business knew about his mutation and many of them treated him differently because of it but at the same time he could easily disguise himself to blend in with the crowd. A good pair of reflective sunglasses would hide his eyes and let him slip through stores and shopping malls without anyone even giving him a second glance.
"Streak's had some issues with big red." Luke commented quietly, "Don't hold his glaring against him."
Turning the subject further away from his tatoo, Kealey brought up the interesting question of how Luke and Shin had met. At least this was more pleasant ground to cover.
"As far as I know, I'm still an X-Man." Luke replied with a small chuckle, "I've still got the communicator and everything." Turning his head slightly so that his sunglass covered eyes were looking toward Kealey he went on to explain. "I'd been around the mansion for a while when Shin first came around. Sam took him under his wing pretty quickly and since Sam and I were pretty tight, I got to know Shin through their relationship."
Even as he spoke, Luke had to admit that he and Shin had never been super close. Sure they'd been friendly with each other but it was more like friendly aquaintances that actual friends. He'd have to try to do a better job of being friends with people now that he'd come back. That was the downside to all the time he'd spend patroling the city as Wraith. All his alone time at night and work with his company during the day had kept him from making as many strong relationships as he might have liked.
"Hey Shin, have you seen Alexandra lately?" Luke asked as he turned his attention back to the shard master, "I'm trying to catch up with everyone but I haven't seen her around or even heard anyone talking about her." He had already seen Sara when he returned, he had a plan in place to meet up with Sam, and Streak and Calley were probably going to pretty easy to track down but Alex was a mystery.

Ah Sara... the little sister Luke had never had and never even really known that he wanted. There was actually something reassuring about the banter and teasing that flew back and forth with so much ease. Sara was one of the people that Luke continued true family. There were others here at the mansion at well and they made up the mutant family that accepted him as he was. They weren't like Uncle Oliver, wanting him to hide what he was, but instead they embraced him and took him in with ability and disability alike.
"People are predictable, whether they realize it or not." Luke replied as he paused on the stairs and leaned up against the railing, "People will almost always treat you cordially when they first meet you while they size you up. Then, once they get a feel for you they'll either be your friend or they'll try to manipulate you in getting what it is they want. It's only after multiple dealings that true anger or disgust will begin to show. Most people don't like confrontations and so they'll smile and try to ignore things that offend them. Animals don't and dogs this size have the option of expressing their displeasure violently."
His voice almost had a clinical feel to it as he recited off the information, but that was probably a good way for him to approach this situation. By stepping away and looking at it logically instead of emotionally he was able to distance himself from the nervousness and even fear that tried to gnaw at his mind.
"If a dog likes a person, then its loyalty is unwavering. It will never turn its back on the person it loves. But if a dog doesn't like a person, its hatred is just as unwavering. That first opinion is the one that stays in their mind and it is almost impossible to change it."

Luke had been standing, leaning up against a wall for approximately ten or so minutes when the Danger Room doors opened. Not bothering to turn around he simply extended his sonar, sweeping the area to see if it was who he was expecting.
"Tight leather clothing, shoulder length hair, definite female form... that is most certainly not Sam." Luke observed to himself as he monitored the person coming closer. He knew that he had met her before but after being away for a year, names of acquaintances didn't spring to his lips like they once hand. Thinking carefully he thought back, finally attaching a name to the figure as her voice broke through his concentration.
"For the moment I am, Fade." Luke replied with a slight chuckle, "It's been a long time. Sam should be joining us shortly, but you're welcome to say for the festivities."
Luke didn't really know what Fade's abilities were, other than the obvious claws. He had never heard anyone speaking about her abilities and since he didn't see the same way as anyone else, he really had no idea about her little disappearing trick.
The wind was getting stronger and Luke could tell by the rumbling in the air that the storm was moving closer. If Sam took to much longer than he was actually going to have to pause the simulation in order to wait for him. But just as those thoughts were moving through his mind the Danger Room doors opened one more time.
"Speak of the devil... he's here."
stepping out of the shadows Luke stood still, simply waiting for Sam to see him. This was a battle situation so there would be no excited waving or calling out. "We've got a group of two or three weather manipulators that have teamed up to destroy the city." Luke commented to Fade as he waited for Sam to head their direction, "One controls rain, one controls wind, and one controls lightening. Should be fun."

Now that Luke's mind no longer had the problem of identity to figure out, it was suddenly focusing in on one of the same fact that had perked Kealey's interest.
"You were Abyss? That had to be... different."
Luke's change into the young man named Juka had definitely been strange but at least he had changed into someone that didn't have any major power's he had been forced to deal with. For Shin to be dealing with Abyss' strength and whatever else he could do... would have been disorienting to say the least.
"It was strange being able to see like everyone else. Since I was born blind I had never experienced it. The colors were amazing." Luke commented, smiling slightly at the memory, "And of course that means that I vividly remember the hair color and eye color of Kealey because she is one of the few people I interacted with while I had normal sight."
Luke froze as the last comment from Shin spoke to something he had never even considered. "Tattoos?" Luke murmured, a slightly worried tone appearing in his voice, "I don't know... I couldn't see them if I did have them."
What if he did have a tattoo? What if it was something obscene? What if it was somewhere obscene?! How would he know? "This could be a problem." Luke murmured softly, his mind suddenly contemplating a new and even larger problem than the identity issue. "How in the world..."
