The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam stifled a yawn into a mug of coffee hoping that the caffeine would kick him the kick in the pants he needed to wake up. Ever since he got back to the city he was looking for an excuse not to sleep, extra lessons with Alex, training with Mirror or Jorge and any reason to go on patrol. He liked working with the police less and less for personal reasons but he didn’t let it affect his work, only his sleep schedule.
The attempt to confront and try to kill Amanda again was another failure in trying to rid himself of the constant nightmares that waited for him while he slept, so when a bartender called off at the bar he owned (long story, one that Sam doesn’t remember) Sam was more than eager to take the shift. Sure he wouldn’t really be paying himself to tend the bar but it kept him away from his bed or his desk. In truth Sam was still afraid to sleep.
The station on the television changed quickly as Sam had grown tired of the same news, he wasn’t expecting a lot of patrons seeing as it was still pretty early but the few regulars he noticed already had their usual orders. So, when he landed on a nature channel discussing the hunting habits of Orca’s he decided he’d wipe the bar top down again for the third time that morning then clean out the drink wear cleaner.

One thing a lot of people tend to forget about electric fences, one it causes your body to tense up and if the current is strong enough it can cause the body to lock in where it was. Right against the fence his back arched slightly and he felt himself be thrown from the fence. Whoever was working the fence it must have turned off for a second. Long enough for his body to loosen enough to get launched back towards his completion.
Sam’s body ached. His wrists were green again meaning he must have had access to his powers though now he was a little more afraid to use them. Sam’s sixth sense came back online just in time though. A sudden flash of read appeared before him. His body hurt but he could move meaning he could fight. Sam rolled just in time as a foot belonging to the size of Shaq slammed down where his head was.
The guy was big and slow. Sam’s favorite sparring size, big and slow meant he’d have to be faster and smarter and as much as he just wanted to punch something till it stopped moving it wouldn’t be too useful here. It wasn’t the fist size shifter Sam had run into and a lot of them seemed to have a similar skill set. Loud, slow and strong. Joints however were hard to strengthen, even with some mutant abilities. They still had to bend a certain way and the way this mutant was moving he seemed human enough.
Sam pushed himself up and brought his hands up to intercept a kick. If his hands weren’t there it would have made full contact with his ribs. His wrist bent into the kick and a loud pop could be heard. Sam yelled as he got to his feet jumped back and popped his wrist back letting out a low pain stricken hiss which was drown out in seconds by the crowd who erupted in cheer to Sam’s discomfort. ------
“Dear, don’t insult me. No man is ever what he says he is. I don’t care who they are. I’m a matchmaker, he seemed right for you. What a shame. Well, I can always try again. In fact I have a few other possible candidates. One happens to be a duke.”
The old crone took a sip of her now semi warm tea and she cleared her throat. “Well, you used to have manners as well. Whatever happened to pleasantries? The Matchmaker waved her hand and one of the few girls that was living under her careful watch appeared with a piece of paper and a tablet with a black screen on it.
“I asked around, he is at this location probably getting broken and bruised for the amusement of the so called elite. Press play” she had no doubt it would be one of the few fights Sam had been in since he had been taken captive. “Such a shame too. Such a handsome young man, the eye patch was a little much but he had promise.” She said not thinking too much on it. “It’s where your sister is. She attracted a ruffian with a god complex.” Another sip of tea, “I’m exaggerating slightly but I hardly wanted to agree to match. He seemed more interested in arguing than your sister.”

First rule of fight club, is you don’t talk about fight club. The second rule is you don’t talk about fight club. Sam shifted his weight as he avoided a punch to his face throwing out a counter strike of his own landing a few knuckles on a rib of his current opponent. It didn’t take long for Sam to figure out what was going on.
He was a contestant, slave or whatever forced to fight. At first he resisted but he found his competitor was more eager to fight than Sam was. The manacles around his ankles stopped buzzing when he stopped trying to run. Sam frowned as he blocked a crescent kick to his head. Honestly why do people throw that kick so high? Sam caught the kick then swept his opponents leg forcing his adversary to the ground. Sam took a step back and tried to figure out everything around him.
His sixth sense wasn’t working as well as it should have, mainly because there were so many heat signatures around him. They were of course on the other side of the cage and yelling loudly throwing beers, food, whatever. It was clear to Sam now that he was supposed to lose, but the beers didn’t need to suffer.
The sound of heavy metal reverberated on arena floor that should have been the second rule of fight club. No heavy metal on the dance floor. Sam ducked just in time avoiding another blow to his head. If he didn’t have access to his powers at all the attack would have connected. So it meant he could use his powers only if he used them for the fight. Made sense he guessed, if he was to fight for entertainment they probably wanted a show.
The crowd started to stomp there feet and the thumping he heard a few minutes ago started to drown out the heavy metal music. Sam wasn’t sure which one he would have rather heard. With everything going on he failed to notice his opponent was getting bigger and uglier, an ongoing theme in his life it seemed when he had one problem it seemed to snowball.
Sam turned and lifted his hand smirking hoping this would be over in one, shot a nice large popsicle for the crowd. His hand turned blue as a beam of ice erupted from his hand only to fall to the ground when the cuff around his hand lit up.
A distraction like that was what the giant needed to land a large fist at Sam’s chest. Jumping away and knocking himself off his feet by the punch Sam landed on the cage wall. Where he hit his back tensed up. Electric walls. This place sucked.
----
“He gave off that presence. Quite the trouble-maker as well. He shows up on my doorstep and days later people I thought… I hoped I would never see again show up to my doorstep.” She sipped the tea and looked back out the window. Letting the information settle. More for herself than for her uninvited guest, who she knew would appear. Just as Sam had said.
“Bo… She’s not here anymore.” The old woman said into her cup of tea. She didn’t want to part with Bo. The young woman showed such promise. The fact that she was forced to part with her was still a sore subject. “In fact that’s where your friend was headed as well.” She set her tea down and tried to imitate a large brute and puffed out her chest, “I’ll go and make sure Bo is all good.” Hmph. Match Maker waved her hand off and then placed it on her knee. “Now, tell me about your husband!” she said trying to change the subject.

”Model citizen.” Sam said as he raised one of the glasses trying to hide the other now empty one. Ghost of course would have thought he was drunk at this point but while he was pretty liquored up he was still holding his composure.
”Doesn’t matter either way.” Sam said waving his hands, ”Jack’s gonna throw me in a cell for a few hours anyways.” Sam said now just informing Ghost what he was expecting to happen when they landed. You don’t get to stroll through the customs if you are caught stealing priceless paintings and trinkets from museums. That was the reason they were there. To clear his name. Normally Sam wouldn’t care if he was banned from France but he also knew that if he allowed someone to keep using his likeness it might progressively get worse for him so here they are, that and he had to get away from the mansion.
Sam nursed his remaining drink as the plane lowered and lowered till they hit the runway. When the plane skidded to a stop Sam slammed the drink. ”When was the last time you were here?” Sam asked Ghost as if she was always going to Paris.
When the time came for them to exit the plane Sam had to catch himself once or twice on the chairs so he didn’t lose his footing. He would have blamed Ghost for not walking fast enough but he was sure they both knew the real reason he still had his ‘air legs’.
While the plan was to get through customs it seemed the authorities had another plan. The inspector who had first told Sam about his thieving habits in Paris was waiting for them or rather just Sam for he didn’t pay much mind to Ghost. Inspector Jacques, or ‘Jack’ as Sam had called him was waiting for the icemancer with a few armed officers and a pair of handcuffs swinging around his fingers.
“It seems you’ve enjoyed your flight in…” he could have probably smelled the alcohol on Sam, it was a long flight and with an upturned nose like Jacques it was practically aimed at them. ”Yup.” was all Sam had said in response, ”ready for my escort, and as discussed I brought a plus one.” Sam nodded his head to Ghost as he raised his hands ready to be cuffed. ”I’m sure you can explain everything to us on the way to the station?” Sam asked curiously.
Jacques hesitated for a second almost worried he was going to seem to friendly in front of his subordinates, “Something like that.” He agreed and gave a slight smirk to the icemancer as he stepped forward and cuffed Sam. It was quite obvious the cuffs were just for show. “Now if you and your friend will follow me I’d like to get the investigation underway. I’ll have one of my men collect your things and bring them to the station.”

thump-thump-thump
Sam opened his eye and grabbed his head first there was an intense pain from where he was struck that caused him to be knocked out. The smell of ozone still lingered in his nostrils causing him to exhale fiercely.
thump-thump-thump
Sam sat up slowly and examined his small little room. The steel door seemed familiar, he had of course never been in this cell but after a while all prisons seemed the same. It was a small cell, just big enough for him to lay down from one side of the room to another. Made him think they were trying to save space. No doubt he was where he needed to be. The thumping after a few moments started to sound like foot stomps more than his headache.
Sam rubbed the back of his head and got up slowly pushing his back against the wall spotting the red ring of an inferred camera in the upper corner. A finger shut up as he notified his captors he was awake. A sharp shooting pain erupted from his body the second his finger rose and he twitched as the manacles he now noticed around his wrists and ankles lit up with a small red led strip. His body convulsed for a second and the pain stopped when the red light around his limbs vanished.
It seemed his captors repurposed the collars he was familiar with. Great…. Sam raised his hands up like he gave up. This time instead of his manacles lighting up it was a light in front of the door, which then opened and the sound of the thumping got ten times louder.
---
There was a knock on the door. The Match Maker looked from her cup of warm tea to the door. She didn’t need to say anything the girls already knew what to do. A young blonde walked to the door and answered allowing the guest to enter. “It’s been a long time young Svetlana.” The matchmaker said not needing to see her before she started talking. “Your… handsome friend mentioned you’d be coming to see me.”

The stairs were easy to navigate he’d done it with his eyes closed a hundred times before and even more when he only had one so he wasn’t focused on up the stairs just the idea of drinking the rest of his beer that was following close behind him. He was tempted to try and snatch one for the rest of the walk but refrained for now. When she broke the silence he responded without thinking. ”Police work, training drinking, paperwork, missions, drinking, girlfriend.” there wasn’t sleep anywhere in there and he didn’t mind pointing that out.
”Yes, I have a girlfriend.” Sam raised the beer to his mouth and took a sip. ”Surprisingly enough some women find me charming.” Sam laughed and then added, ”Think I got extremely lucky. She’s a nurse and can patch my @@@ up.” Rounding the next set of stairs and going up his hand shot back once or twice to reach for the beers.
”What about you?” Sam asked curiously, ”Been practicing?” Sam asked more about his subject than anything. If she was a former student of his he hoped she still knew some things he taught.

Wishing he hadn’t thrown out the bottle as the tears started to flow he uncomfortably leaned back in his chair. Sam didn’t like to see women cry, so breakups were always difficult for him usually it ended with him leaving the next morning and then losing a phone number. This time was a little different. He actually wanted to keep things on good terms with Juliette. She was a team member and she lived across the hall meaning the quicker he got out of there the more awkward he’d feel about everything.
”Yeah…” Sam finally agreed he offered up a box of tissues as he got up. Bringing the glass with him. ”I’ll give you some space.” he already started to feel awkward and uncomfortable. It was his office but it seemed best to let her have it for now.

Sam looked at the little red button on his phone. Once it was live he took a sip of a large brown bottle of a heavy stout he found by chance walking back to the room he was currently recording in. He was wondering if the Dragonspeak gem was wearing off but knew it wouldn’t matter for the intended party. She knew Russian, she knew English and she knew his language, any variation of it.
Sam set the bottle down and cleared his throat. ”Hey… Been a while since I’ve seen ya. So… yeah had a girlfriend and…” Sam cleared his throat and rolled his eye and took another swig of the drink. ”That doesn’t matter, anyways. If you get this video good chance I was kidnapped.” Sam took another sip then stared at a wall. He smirked then looked back to the camera, ”Correction, I’ll be escorted shortly I can seem them through the walls.” Sam said pointing past the camera’s view.
”Anyways, Odds are I’ll need a little back up, and no. I don’t want anyone from the X-Men involved this is… more….” Sam waited for the word to come then raised an eyebrow, ”Personal?” he shrugged and then hefted the bottle again, it was clear he was drunk and to the point of sleep deprivation he seemed slaphappy almost insane.
Sam looked at the photo and smirked holding it to the camera so anyone watching the video would have seen the beautiful blonde frozen in time as a model on the piece of paper. ”I’m a $&*( photograph but man…” Sam smirked as he took a large swig of the bottle, ”I mean, not as beautiful as you but…” Sam smirked as he pointed to the photo and to the subject, ”She makes me feel like I can take the perfect photo.” he ran his hand in a wrap it up gesture signaling the people he saw from the other side of the thin walls of his room.
”She’s sweet too. Like you.” Sam said taking a second to let the message sink in, ”Found her. Probably not involved with the people you want or in the situation you want but.” Sam shrugged, and sipped his beer, ”I’m supposed to be dead so…” Sam looked up and started to laugh, ”So long story short, contact the matchmaker and tell her I owe you a favor, she owes me one so she will be able to give you more information than I can at the moment.” Sam smirked, ”So, this is me… signing off… Next time you see me I’ll be on the big screen.” Sam smirked and sipped his beer just as the door was kicked open.
The video continued as Sam raised an eyebrow and looked to the intruders who were out of the camera’s view. ”Only five?” his Russian started to turn English before he realized his translation gem wore off. ”Kinda insulted…” Sam sipped his beer and then threw the bottle at the nearest guy then kicked the table with his phone up towards another assailant. The camera spun in the air as Sam ran forward and took out the other three with a few punches. Then in a flash as the camera hit the ground Sam collapsed after the sound of thunder. Sam looked towards the camera and gave a little chuckle before passing out.

Sam looked into the mirror and sipped his scotch as he turned slightly to the woman who was in the confined quarters with him. The turbulence of the plane caused the compartment to become a little more crowded as both parties spread out. To push themselves against the walls of the restroom. ”Sorry.” Sam said finally as he pointed at where his hand brushed past. She smirked and with a heavy French accent she asked, “Aren’t we past that?” Sam shrugged as he buttoned his pants with the plastic cup of scotch in his mouth.
”I guess.” Sam took a swig emptying the contents and then raised an eyebrow. ”So...” there was a knock on the door. “I have to go back to my seat.” She said quickly squeezing passed Sam exiting the bathroom.
”Okay, then.” he said after a moment keeping the door shut. Sam washed his hands, as was habit when leaving the airplane bathroom. He opened the door and walked back to his seat and sat down kicking the chair of the woman in front of him. ”I’m gonna get another drink, you want one?”
Sam already had two ordered before he heard a response. She might have been sleeping it was a long flight to Paris and when you can’t sleep because you’re worried your mutation is going to summon an ice monster it seemed even longer.
Silence for the moment was his best friend after he apologized there was nothing let to say and he wasn’t sure if she had anything to say as well. He poured himself another glass glad for the silence for a moment. Sam took another sip and then just like everything in his life it seemed his new best friend was leaving him as well.
>>>"I... I can't do this, Sam,"
It wasn’t a question, she was telling him she couldn’t do this and while he was willing to tell her he loved her an hour ago now it seemed like he was very wrong in thinking that way. Sam wanted to get upset, scream, shout and throw things but he didn’t. He embraced the one constant in his life and took a sip the burn helping him as much as it was helping her. Sam didn’t say anything for a moment as he collected his thoughts. Did he hate her for this?
”Thank you.” Sam said finally after another drink. He scratched the back of his head and leaned back in his chair trying not to make eye contact for a moment as if they locked eyes she’d see into him like she seemed to see into him all the time.
”For being honest firstly, and showing me that I’m capable of getting my own head out of my ***” he sipped again. She might not have seen a difference in the amount he drank but Sam noticed one. He was actually excited to wake up in the morning again and attempt to do work. He was less cynical and at the moment he didn’t want to slide back into his old habits but… Sam took a sip again then took the bottle and dropped it in the garbage can even with it being half full (he wanted to think he was an optimist now).
”I got too many problems, and you’re right.” Sam took a sip of his glass again as he leaned back into his chair again his eye shifting from the glass in his hand to the bottle in the trash then back to Juliette. ”You can’t do this and if I care about you at all I shouldn’t have to ask you. I’m the only one who can do anything for me.” Sam sipped his glass, ”You did more than you know though.” Sam said not trying to get into everything she had done for him.

The air got colder when Gina approached and wrapped her prehensile tail around his six pack. If it was anyone else there was a good chance he would have swung on them but Gina for the most part never rubbed him the wrong way so when she stole his beer all she got was a chill. ”I did.” Sam agreed as he made a pass at his beer and tried to swipe it back. The way she responded probably couldn’t have worked better in her favor. She was about as sassy as Sam was meaning he was in good company.
”I have a girlfriend so you coming to my room…” Sam folded his arms slightly and raised an eyebrow as he smirked, ”Sides I don’t think you could deal with me.” Sam waved for the beer. ”So how about you hand me my beer back and I’ll go on my own.” Sam said having no intentions of going back to his room. Even if he was physically and mentally exhausted and could use some sleep he had a feeling he’d be getting none.
Sam made one last swipe at the beer hoping he could reach out for the beverages in time before her tail moved but he had no luck. Sure he could have taken the beer from her but even if she wasn’t a former student Sam had no intention harming her for his drinks. ”Fine, mom.” Sam huffed slightly and walked towards the stairs.
”Sam… you aren’t in any of my classes. You address me as Sam. Otherwise you get detention for stealing my beer.”

With a smirk Sam missed as he swung on Xavia, she clearly had been practicing which was everything he could have hoped for. More so for him than for her, it meant he’d get more of a workout and more of a stress reliever. ”Good to know.” Sam said as he took a step back just barley avoiding the vines. He felt the vines touching his armor, which caused him to move in the first place.
Sam could feel her body temperature as she moved behind him he turned slower than usual because he had a feeling she was using herself as a distraction as her mutation attacked. A few acorns pegged his backside as he raised a small layer of ice armor behind himself to prevent the minor annoyance. He was about to throw another cod blast then stopped.
”That’s enough.” the icemancer lowered his guard then pointed to his nose. ”You’re bleeding.”

Sam heard Juliette apologize to someone who looked like his ex-not real wife and he had to tell himself to keep moving forward so he wouldn’t stop and linger. Alexandra was the love of his life for what felt like decades it was hard to keep moving but none of it was real. The final curse Amanda had afflicted him with memories lingered and it was obvious some things couldn’t be forgotten no matter how much he drank or distracted himself.
Limping over to his chair Sam sat down and went for the drawer, it was something that he knew that Juliette would definitely not like but he was trying to process everything. He did just see the woman he married and raised two kids with. He had multiple life times with her so when he saw her even though she was supposedly was dead.
The bottle slammed on the desk with purpose the lid was off and two glasses were being poured he had a feeling Juliette was about to speak her mind and he wanted to get slightly ahead of it by distracting her with a drink. Even if she wasn’t going to take it.
”Sooo….not how I wanted any day for the rest of my life go.” he said with his eye down on his now filled glass. No ice. His leg hurt but with the it frozen over the bleeding would stop long enough for him to be good for a few hours. Sam decided after what just happened he’d need to be drunk to deal with anything else.
”I’m sure there’s a **** ton of questions. But yeah, that was my ex, girlfriend, and the S*** show that was the mind control thing, she was the wife and mother to my not real kids.” Sam waited a second before adding quickly because he’d figured it would help. ”She was dead. Obviously didn’t keep, third person this year too.” Sam took a long swig. ”I’m sorry for how I reacted. To her and then the leg.” Sam took another long swig.

She dodged the uppercut and managed to throw out a vine, Sam was ready however and when it hit he squared up his stance so she wouldn’t be able to rip his leg out from under him. It wasn’t the first time they sparred and it wouldn’t be the last. The trees around them though was a new touch so when she leapt from the tree branch he was slightly surprised but like she did a few seconds before he mimicked her and ducked out of the way with a lowering of his stance and pivoting away from danger.
Even if the vine was detached from Xavia he still iced over his leg for a second causing the vine around him to break off in a few bits of ice. She was resourceful and he didn’t want her to come back at him with any attacks he thought he dodged before.
”Didn’t know trees were so bouncy.” Sam said as he charged at her again throwing kick at her leg trying to get her off balance so he could throw out another combo.
