The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam shrugged, she was right. It was his bar and he wanted to jump the bar so he did. ”and have someone ask for another drink when they see me walking out from behind the bar?” Sam shook his head. ”I can always jump back over if I need to.” he’s done it before.
Sam grabbed a beer and took a swig. The door opened to the entrance of the bar and he could feel his manager enter the room. Sam waited to respond to Lee for a second to address his manager. ”How is it you’re always ten minutes late?” Sam said joking, ”I just ended my shift.” Sam said jokingly.
“Oh, does that mean you’ll finally pay for a drink?” Elle, Sam’s bartender walked past them and then gave Lee a nod hello before waving to everyone else on the way to behind the bar. Sam shrugged and then looked back to Lee. ”Great isn’t she?”
Sipping his beer he finally responded to Lee, ”Well I’m glad someone could talk you into coming back. The city needs more friendly faces.” he leaned forward resting his arms on the bar. ”Well congrats on the job.” Sam said raising the glass and then adding, ”and welcome home.”
Sam shifted his attention back to his manager, ”Think your dad is out back smoking again.” Elle walked over to Sam and Lee and put another two beers on the counter in front of them. “He only smokes here because Mom would kick his butt.” Elle shifted her attention to Lee. “If he’s bothering you, let me know. His charm fades fast.” She smirked and then gave a little head nod and walked away from the bar her blue highlights trailing her.
”Yet she’s always happy to see me.” he said more to his drink than to Lee. ”Things have been better. Been worse too.” Sam said trying to be vague as he stared at the bottle. ”Talking doesn’t help though Lee. Tried it. So drinking and avoiding the mansion is what’s in the cards for now.” Sam said joking trying to change the subject.

”I don’t drink to get drunk. I drink to sleep, better to drink at home, I got enough people who fall asleep here.” Sam said a being more honest than he wanted to be. The bar owner pushed himself off the bar as he spotted a mug being emptied. It was a regular and the guy worked the night shift so Sam knew he had a few more beers in him before he was done. He swapped the empty for the full one and then threw it in the dishwasher before grabbing another clean mug and grabbed a rag and started to dry one of the glasses even though it was already plenty dry.
”Easy, never said you couldn’t. It’s a perk. Or it could be one of the many drinks I never got to buy you. I’m sure there are plenty of those.” he said smirking putting the dried glass down and grabbing another glass and drying that one next.
”It’s a bit different.” Sam said with a raised eyebrow, ”this place wouldn’t survive without her, I mean… she hasn’t turned me down yet. Think I have a shot still.” Sam said loudly when he saw the light from the front door. He doubted it was his manager but he like to make the joke when her dad was around.
It wasn’t his manager but that didn’t stop Sam from literally climbing over the bar instead of walking around. ”Shifts over.” Sam said as he grabbed a stool next to Lee. ”sooo… what’s new?”

”I’m the owner.” Sam said shrugging as he walked back to behind the bar and grabbed another beer and set it next to the one that was already on deck for Lee. He intended to drink one of them. ”Kind of hard to run a bar if I drink on the clock right? I’ll end up drinking my entire stock out.” Sam said not really divulging the main reason. In truth he had been suffer from alcohol dependency in fact it was one of the few things that could help him get a good night sleep and it had been going unnoticed for a while. Since his most recent breakup people were voicing their concern.
”Besides,” Sam said as he leaned onto the bar, ”My manager whose coming in… she scares me.” Sam said with a faint smirk. She didn’t actually scare him but she was good at making Sam feel guilty for drinking as much as he did. The way Jules did and Ghost still does.
”Now I mentioned I’m not so good at following the rules but that doesn’t mean I’m trying.” Sam smirked, ”Besides, your a mother now. You are supposed to encourage the rules.” Sam said attempting to wink with his single eye. he smirked. ”Sides, only get three drinks on the house per shift as owner, your already drinking two of them.

”It’s all about burning that extra energy till you can get them to pay attention. Sometimes it’s running and some times it’s kicking and things. Eventually all kids focus enough. You’re more than welcome to sit in on the class.” Sam walked up to the bar and received another order this one was one of the specials.
”Couldn’t teach a safety class. It means I’d have to follow my own rules and let’s face it. Not too good at following them.” Sam said as he raised his hand over a small glass and willed a figure of ice to form. It looked like a little frozen man and when it was added with the hot coffee and Irish cream it looked like a man in a hot tub. He made three more of the drinks and then looked back to Lee.
”You sticking around long enough for another round. My relief gets here in a bit. Might be able to join you for a beer, kind of found upon if I drink on the clock.” the old man at the end of the bar said something loud enough for Sam to make out a few words. ”You’re daughter is the one who will be in today.” the old man gasped and quickly slammed his drink and then pushed himself up. “See you tomorrow, frosty.”
Sam smirked and collected the glass and threw it in the dishwasher.

”Often enough,” Sam said gesturing with his coffee, ”Discipline is one of the cornerstones of my lesson plans… though…” Sam looked around, ” Maybe I should practice what I teach huh?” Sam asked as he walked towards register as he heard an order for drinks.
Sam hated making Long Island Ice Teas there was no craft in it just a mixture of liquors hoping that it would taste good. Then again Sam hated drinking them so he was a little biased. Pulling the glasses out he started to whip up the drinks. ”You think anyone would let a guy with one eye that looks like me teach anywhere else?” Sam asked laughing. ” I mean eye patch screams self-defense teacher. Or pirate. Last I checked the pirate class didn’t start back up yet so… think I’m just sticking to one.”
”Pfffttt too young. Never too young to learn the basics.” Sam offered up the drinks to the waitress then got back to his spot opposite Lee on the bar with his coffee mug. ”Had my powers when I was that young.” Sam shrugged, ”Guess I’m a special case then.” Sam smirked back into his mug.
”Really though, I do have some classes with some kids his age. Not many but just the ones living in the mansion, mostly I just try to keep there attention for an hour or so, they seem to have fun with it. At least they burn some energy and if he’s your kid I’m sure he has plenty.” Sam said raising an eyebrow.

”Kid’s or boys?” Sam asked with a smirk as a teacher he had noticed some kids have more energy than others but when it came to punching or kicking something he noticed the boys were more eager to follow along. Then again, he did have students like Victoria.
Sam smirked, ”Careful there Lee your gonna make me start thinking about our one and only date.” Sam smirked into the coffee mug as his thermal sense and his lone eye darted towards the door to see some people entering and grabbing a table. Sam then nodded to the waitress to greet them.
It took a second but he was staring back at Lee, ”I might of at one point but, feels like I’ve had a few lifetimes to sort through.” Sam said not exaggerating at all. When he was being controlled he actually went through a few lifetimes with his family. All of them eventually ended like his coffee. Black.
Sam sipped from his mug, ”I’m also a teacher, so if Kevin needs an outlet I hear running around practicing punches is a good outlet.” Sam said, ”But, never could turn down a trip to the zoo.” he paused for a second not to think but to drink his coffee. ”Now does Kevin take after you or… ummm…. Does he see dead people?” it was none of his business but he was curious and once upon a time he and Lee were great friends.

Whiskey was indeed an acquired taste.
”Kevin….” Sam said recalling Lee was pregnant, though he could remember if it was in this reality or one of his many nightmares that he often relived when he laid his head down. ”Son.” Sam said more of a reminder to himself.
”More power to ya.” Sam said recalling everything his ‘not-real’ wife did for their kids. ”Don’t know how you ladies do it but mom’s keep going.”
Sam laughed and then rubbed his chin thinking about the kiss he once stole, ”Almost forgot about your power.” he raised his mug, ”You probably won’t need it.” Sam said with a laugh. ”How’s it going by the way, eh your powers and Kevin.” he thought for a second, ”Don’t think I met him.”

Sam sipped his coffee and tried not to comment on her comment about paperwork and Tarin. It seemed things weren’t all too well between them, unless paperwork meant something else. Divorce was something Sam wasn’t familiar with. Dead ‘not-real’ wives and teammate ex-girlfriends was something he understood more. If having a ex-husband was anything like having an ex-girlfriends you have to see regularly he understood what she was going through, at least in his mind. That and Sam and Tarin never got along too well. Only thing they had in common was Lee.
”Sounds like you could use a coffee more than a beer then… however it’s five o’clock somewhere.” Sam asked as he reached under the bar produced another beer and sent it down to the older regular who was interjecting in their conversation earlier. ”I make a good cup. One of the perks with being the owner. I get to choose the coffee.” Sam said with a smirk as he eyed the second beer in front of Lee and then reached for the pot of coffee and refilling his cup.
”I personally,” Sam started turning back towards Lee and then pointing to a bottle that looked like there was rocket blasting off on it ”found whiskey to get me to go to sleep quickly if sleep isn’t coming naturally.” he joked but there was many a bender with that bottle.
”Double shifts?” Sam asked as he took a swig of his coffee and opening the ice-box behind the bar. It was currently unplugged but luckily the icemaker was on the clock. Pointing his hand in the direction of the icemaker he started to will some cubes to form. ”You do look great for being up for two days straight.” Sam smirked and raised his mug in a cheers.

His arms folded with the mug still in hand. He sipped his black liquid and raised his only eyebrow in confirmation. ”Lee.” the next question he was about to answer but one of the regulars chimed in before he could. “I ask him the same damn question every time I see them.” Yup. He said them. The man then demonstrated by pointing to both Sam’s.
Sam then nodded his head, ”And I tell you the same thing. I don’t care whose your brother. You keep coming into ‘my bar’ while ‘I’m’ sober and covering his shift.” Sam then straighten up… ”Now behave before I call your daughter.” his threat was sincere enough to shut the regular up.
Sam then crouched down and grabbed two beers and set them in front of Lee. ”I own a bar now it seems.” Sam said setting his coffee down. ”Think I could be asking you the same question. Last I checked it was still pretty early and…. Tarin?” Sam asked hoping he wasn’t prying too much.
Looking at the second beer he reached out for his coffee and stuck to that for the time being. He was in fact trying to stay at least somewhat sober. Even if the occasional drink made working with some of the regulars more bareable.

With Sam’s back turned to the door he felt the change in temperature as another body, a female one walked into the bar. Sam sniffed as he tossed the rag he was using to wipe down the glass cleaner into a bucket. ”Kitchen isn’t open yet.” he said his voice gruffer than he intended. Sam sniffed and pushed himself up and watched the television as a pod of Orca’s toyed with a kill.
”Sorry,” Sam said as he sipped his coffee, ”That sounded a little worse than I wanted. Sam reached up and rubbed the scruff on his face then turned to the new comer. ”Should be another hour before the cook is ready. Recommend the fish tacos, need to start off with something to drink?” Sam said as he grabbed a glass and filled it with some water then willed some ice to form in the glass.
The icemancer’s lone eye shifted from the glass to the patron. If she had died before in front of him he might have tried to ‘wake’ himself up but it wasn’t the case. Sam smirked, ”Damn, still looking good. Didn’t know you were back in town.”

Sam stifled a yawn into a mug of coffee hoping that the caffeine would kick him the kick in the pants he needed to wake up. Ever since he got back to the city he was looking for an excuse not to sleep, extra lessons with Alex, training with Mirror or Jorge and any reason to go on patrol. He liked working with the police less and less for personal reasons but he didn’t let it affect his work, only his sleep schedule.
The attempt to confront and try to kill Amanda again was another failure in trying to rid himself of the constant nightmares that waited for him while he slept, so when a bartender called off at the bar he owned (long story, one that Sam doesn’t remember) Sam was more than eager to take the shift. Sure he wouldn’t really be paying himself to tend the bar but it kept him away from his bed or his desk. In truth Sam was still afraid to sleep.
The station on the television changed quickly as Sam had grown tired of the same news, he wasn’t expecting a lot of patrons seeing as it was still pretty early but the few regulars he noticed already had their usual orders. So, when he landed on a nature channel discussing the hunting habits of Orca’s he decided he’d wipe the bar top down again for the third time that morning then clean out the drink wear cleaner.

One thing a lot of people tend to forget about electric fences, one it causes your body to tense up and if the current is strong enough it can cause the body to lock in where it was. Right against the fence his back arched slightly and he felt himself be thrown from the fence. Whoever was working the fence it must have turned off for a second. Long enough for his body to loosen enough to get launched back towards his completion.
Sam’s body ached. His wrists were green again meaning he must have had access to his powers though now he was a little more afraid to use them. Sam’s sixth sense came back online just in time though. A sudden flash of read appeared before him. His body hurt but he could move meaning he could fight. Sam rolled just in time as a foot belonging to the size of Shaq slammed down where his head was.
The guy was big and slow. Sam’s favorite sparring size, big and slow meant he’d have to be faster and smarter and as much as he just wanted to punch something till it stopped moving it wouldn’t be too useful here. It wasn’t the fist size shifter Sam had run into and a lot of them seemed to have a similar skill set. Loud, slow and strong. Joints however were hard to strengthen, even with some mutant abilities. They still had to bend a certain way and the way this mutant was moving he seemed human enough.
Sam pushed himself up and brought his hands up to intercept a kick. If his hands weren’t there it would have made full contact with his ribs. His wrist bent into the kick and a loud pop could be heard. Sam yelled as he got to his feet jumped back and popped his wrist back letting out a low pain stricken hiss which was drown out in seconds by the crowd who erupted in cheer to Sam’s discomfort. ------
“Dear, don’t insult me. No man is ever what he says he is. I don’t care who they are. I’m a matchmaker, he seemed right for you. What a shame. Well, I can always try again. In fact I have a few other possible candidates. One happens to be a duke.”
The old crone took a sip of her now semi warm tea and she cleared her throat. “Well, you used to have manners as well. Whatever happened to pleasantries? The Matchmaker waved her hand and one of the few girls that was living under her careful watch appeared with a piece of paper and a tablet with a black screen on it.
“I asked around, he is at this location probably getting broken and bruised for the amusement of the so called elite. Press play” she had no doubt it would be one of the few fights Sam had been in since he had been taken captive. “Such a shame too. Such a handsome young man, the eye patch was a little much but he had promise.” She said not thinking too much on it. “It’s where your sister is. She attracted a ruffian with a god complex.” Another sip of tea, “I’m exaggerating slightly but I hardly wanted to agree to match. He seemed more interested in arguing than your sister.”

First rule of fight club, is you don’t talk about fight club. The second rule is you don’t talk about fight club. Sam shifted his weight as he avoided a punch to his face throwing out a counter strike of his own landing a few knuckles on a rib of his current opponent. It didn’t take long for Sam to figure out what was going on.
He was a contestant, slave or whatever forced to fight. At first he resisted but he found his competitor was more eager to fight than Sam was. The manacles around his ankles stopped buzzing when he stopped trying to run. Sam frowned as he blocked a crescent kick to his head. Honestly why do people throw that kick so high? Sam caught the kick then swept his opponents leg forcing his adversary to the ground. Sam took a step back and tried to figure out everything around him.
His sixth sense wasn’t working as well as it should have, mainly because there were so many heat signatures around him. They were of course on the other side of the cage and yelling loudly throwing beers, food, whatever. It was clear to Sam now that he was supposed to lose, but the beers didn’t need to suffer.
The sound of heavy metal reverberated on arena floor that should have been the second rule of fight club. No heavy metal on the dance floor. Sam ducked just in time avoiding another blow to his head. If he didn’t have access to his powers at all the attack would have connected. So it meant he could use his powers only if he used them for the fight. Made sense he guessed, if he was to fight for entertainment they probably wanted a show.
The crowd started to stomp there feet and the thumping he heard a few minutes ago started to drown out the heavy metal music. Sam wasn’t sure which one he would have rather heard. With everything going on he failed to notice his opponent was getting bigger and uglier, an ongoing theme in his life it seemed when he had one problem it seemed to snowball.
Sam turned and lifted his hand smirking hoping this would be over in one, shot a nice large popsicle for the crowd. His hand turned blue as a beam of ice erupted from his hand only to fall to the ground when the cuff around his hand lit up.
A distraction like that was what the giant needed to land a large fist at Sam’s chest. Jumping away and knocking himself off his feet by the punch Sam landed on the cage wall. Where he hit his back tensed up. Electric walls. This place sucked.
----
“He gave off that presence. Quite the trouble-maker as well. He shows up on my doorstep and days later people I thought… I hoped I would never see again show up to my doorstep.” She sipped the tea and looked back out the window. Letting the information settle. More for herself than for her uninvited guest, who she knew would appear. Just as Sam had said.
“Bo… She’s not here anymore.” The old woman said into her cup of tea. She didn’t want to part with Bo. The young woman showed such promise. The fact that she was forced to part with her was still a sore subject. “In fact that’s where your friend was headed as well.” She set her tea down and tried to imitate a large brute and puffed out her chest, “I’ll go and make sure Bo is all good.” Hmph. Match Maker waved her hand off and then placed it on her knee. “Now, tell me about your husband!” she said trying to change the subject.

”Model citizen.” Sam said as he raised one of the glasses trying to hide the other now empty one. Ghost of course would have thought he was drunk at this point but while he was pretty liquored up he was still holding his composure.
”Doesn’t matter either way.” Sam said waving his hands, ”Jack’s gonna throw me in a cell for a few hours anyways.” Sam said now just informing Ghost what he was expecting to happen when they landed. You don’t get to stroll through the customs if you are caught stealing priceless paintings and trinkets from museums. That was the reason they were there. To clear his name. Normally Sam wouldn’t care if he was banned from France but he also knew that if he allowed someone to keep using his likeness it might progressively get worse for him so here they are, that and he had to get away from the mansion.
Sam nursed his remaining drink as the plane lowered and lowered till they hit the runway. When the plane skidded to a stop Sam slammed the drink. ”When was the last time you were here?” Sam asked Ghost as if she was always going to Paris.
When the time came for them to exit the plane Sam had to catch himself once or twice on the chairs so he didn’t lose his footing. He would have blamed Ghost for not walking fast enough but he was sure they both knew the real reason he still had his ‘air legs’.
While the plan was to get through customs it seemed the authorities had another plan. The inspector who had first told Sam about his thieving habits in Paris was waiting for them or rather just Sam for he didn’t pay much mind to Ghost. Inspector Jacques, or ‘Jack’ as Sam had called him was waiting for the icemancer with a few armed officers and a pair of handcuffs swinging around his fingers.
“It seems you’ve enjoyed your flight in…” he could have probably smelled the alcohol on Sam, it was a long flight and with an upturned nose like Jacques it was practically aimed at them. ”Yup.” was all Sam had said in response, ”ready for my escort, and as discussed I brought a plus one.” Sam nodded his head to Ghost as he raised his hands ready to be cuffed. ”I’m sure you can explain everything to us on the way to the station?” Sam asked curiously.
Jacques hesitated for a second almost worried he was going to seem to friendly in front of his subordinates, “Something like that.” He agreed and gave a slight smirk to the icemancer as he stepped forward and cuffed Sam. It was quite obvious the cuffs were just for show. “Now if you and your friend will follow me I’d like to get the investigation underway. I’ll have one of my men collect your things and bring them to the station.”

thump-thump-thump
Sam opened his eye and grabbed his head first there was an intense pain from where he was struck that caused him to be knocked out. The smell of ozone still lingered in his nostrils causing him to exhale fiercely.
thump-thump-thump
Sam sat up slowly and examined his small little room. The steel door seemed familiar, he had of course never been in this cell but after a while all prisons seemed the same. It was a small cell, just big enough for him to lay down from one side of the room to another. Made him think they were trying to save space. No doubt he was where he needed to be. The thumping after a few moments started to sound like foot stomps more than his headache.
Sam rubbed the back of his head and got up slowly pushing his back against the wall spotting the red ring of an inferred camera in the upper corner. A finger shut up as he notified his captors he was awake. A sharp shooting pain erupted from his body the second his finger rose and he twitched as the manacles he now noticed around his wrists and ankles lit up with a small red led strip. His body convulsed for a second and the pain stopped when the red light around his limbs vanished.
It seemed his captors repurposed the collars he was familiar with. Great…. Sam raised his hands up like he gave up. This time instead of his manacles lighting up it was a light in front of the door, which then opened and the sound of the thumping got ten times louder.
---
There was a knock on the door. The Match Maker looked from her cup of warm tea to the door. She didn’t need to say anything the girls already knew what to do. A young blonde walked to the door and answered allowing the guest to enter. “It’s been a long time young Svetlana.” The matchmaker said not needing to see her before she started talking. “Your… handsome friend mentioned you’d be coming to see me.”
