The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn watched as Forte displayed his powers, the echoes analyzing and storing the information for later. It was interesting, but she wasn't sure how exactly it could help with her own echoes. She listened though and tried to understand what he was saying.
Isolating an echo seemed logical enough, but it was harder to do in practice than just in theory. "It shouldn't be impossible...Just...difficult. I guess we can try the experiment though." She remarked finally, then a tint of pink hit her cheeks at his remark. She stuck out her tongue and pushed her hair from her face.
"My 'pretty face' will be fine. I just don't want anyone thinking you came here to beat me up is all." She remarked with a shake of her head. She let her echoes take in the situation, watching for any sign of attack from Forte. While she believed he wouldn't injure her on purpose, she knew from experience the echoes tended to respond better in real danger than when she was just doing something silly on her own.
Scooting free like a cat with ruffled fur, Evelyn pushed her hair from her face and shook her head at Maya with a huff. "You're still a brat." She insisted, but had no better argument than that so just settled for straightening her shirt and picking up the sai.
>> "First thing first, you need to learn to fall. That's important to know because you will fall a lot in training."
A glint lit up Evelyn's eyes, and she smirked slightly. "Wait are you going to demonstrate for me?" She remarked innocently. She flicked her foot out as she said it, intent on hooking an ankle and bringing the mirror-walker back down.
Evelyn wasn't quite sure what happened. One minute the echoes were following Maya's movements and then...
Then there was ground.
"Omph!" It didn't help that she was still somewhat lacking in the reflex area. Her echoes only processed what was happening, they didn't exactly do much to respond in time yet. She scrunched her face up into a sulky glare and stuck her tongue out like the adult she was.
"Brat! That's totally cheating!" She jabbed her hand against the mirror-walkers side and tried to squiggle away. Meanwhile, the echoes were making it very hard to stay composed. Her cheeks had a pink tint to them and it was threatening to transition towards a deeper shade of red. She was glad they were alone in the danger room because this would look like all sorts of awkward. Not that she wasn't enjoying it.
Evelyn stuck out her tongue at Maya's remark, and swatted at the other female's shoulder. She forced herself not to smile, but only partially succeeded. There was the faint curve in her mouth that gave away her lack of anger. "Hey, at least I'm not going to get hung upside down in a tree by my sai. Not sure if self-defense would fix that."
Ok, so she hadn't let that go yet.
But Maya had to bring up the aliens. It was only fair.
She turned to retrieve the sai again, flipping her braid over her shoulder as she did. It took a good yank to free the weapons this time, but at least that means she was throwing them harder. "You better watch it now. I'm armed and dangerous." She warned.
Evelyn glanced at the table where the bladed weapons rested and made a face. As comfortable as she felt with the sai, she felt genuinely skittish around anything sharper than that. "Knives and I don't exactly get along though. They sort of give me the heebeejeebees...." She remarked, shifting on her feet. She rubbed the back of her neck in a nervous way, trying to quench the twisting sensation in her stomach she felt. It made sense, honestly. it was just hard to get herself to get over that fear. She had gone for almost any weapon that wasn't knife like earlier, and at least daggers didn't make her feel quite as nervous.
"I don't suppose I can just develop a new mutation to make other peoples weapons disappear though." She remarked slowly. Maya seemed comfortable enough throwing the knives. And at least most of the weapons in here were just for training.
>>"If you don't become a superhero, you can still consider a career in circus style juggling. Still comes with a catsuit, right?..."
Evelyn laughed out loud, and grinned slightly, shaking her head. "As much as you might enjoy that, I think I have a one object limit. Hand me three of anything and the echoes are bound to wander elsewhere. I'd be juggling one second then the next I would be getting information about tile patterns and drop everything." She shifted the sai in her hand again, and took her stance back at the target. This time she threw it a little quicker, and it buried itself closer to the middle of the circle.
"Maybe I'll learn some tricks though. I don't think it'd be much use in a fight but I'd look pretty cool if I could throw backwards." She mused. She glanced over at Maya, feeling somewhat more relaxed now. Then she gave another throw and the sai landed just shy of hitting her previous toss.
Evelyn nodded slightly as she moved to retrieve the sai. The only problem with throwing them would be she'd only have two shots. But throwing was always a last resort sort of option. When she fought with them last time they did pretty well at stabbing. It was silly, but she didn't feel skittish around the forked weapons like she did around knives. They could still cut a little bit when sharpened, but that was just what happened with somewhat irrational fears. Then again, after having a knife against her throat it didn't feel so irrational.
>>"You'll have to learn basic self-defense before you start using it in training..."
"So I guess that means the catsuit would have to wait." She looked up with the most innocent of expressions, the slightest hint of a smirk on her mouth. She sighed and tossed the sai in the air, took a step forward and let the echoes guide her hand behind her back to catch it. The smile flashed back across her mouth as she waggled the sai at Mirror, and she chuckled. "I've had to work with some of the patrons this week at the museum, and there have been a ton of kids around. You should see the look on their faces when you do that with a flashlight." She remarked. She had a few tricks up her sleeve still.
>>"I don't know, do you plan on starting to wear spandex?" The retort brought a hint of color to the pale haired mutants face, but she felt a smirk replace it quickly, and put a hand on her hip.
"Well, a black and red catsuit could be interesting..." She picked up both of the said, and watched Mirror throw the knife. She let the echoes take notes, but they behaves somewhat different from the sai, so there wasn't a lot to use.
"The echoes are just sort of...learning, right now, if that makes sense. When I throw, they sort of just note what the results are for how I threw, and how many spins, and lots of technical mumbo jumbo... I guess they help aim in the long run. Every time I throw I get a little more information on what might get closer to where I'm aiming. Since I've never thrown anything like this before though, it's like starting with a blank canvas and mapping everything out."
She flipped the sai around backwards, and stood next to Mirror, taking aim. Pushing aside a bit of her hesitation with the weapon, she focused on throwing harder and threw. She managed to keep her wrist straight this time, and the sai gave a more solid thunk, closer to the center of the target. She tossed the other sai over to her hand without glancing down at it, then tried to match the throw but aimed a few inches over. This one hit the very edge of the bullseye. She couldn't resist the smile that curved across her mouth.
Evelyn waited patiently while Maya moved to get a target, fiddling with the sai while she did. She let the echoes study the movement, taking notes on the weight and how much force it took to get different spins. She was somewhat glad she couldn't forget, otherwise there would be too much information hold onto. As the archery target came to a rest in the middle of the Danger Room, she freed the second sai and stepped forward, moving to where Mirror indicated.
"If nothing else I could probably find a viewtube video on it..." She chuckled slightly, and then focused on the target. Holding the handle firmly, she gave the first one a toss. It did a few spins and clunked off the target, but didn't stick. Frowning slightly with concentration, she took the dagger end of the second weapon, and gave it another toss. This time, it spun faster, and easily embedded in the target. The echoes stored the information, and she pushed her hair from her face.
"They're predictable enough they don't drive the echoes crazy at least, which is a plus... I have to say out of everything their growing on me. Does that make me like a super cheesy superhero wanna be or something?" She remarked.
>>You'll learn, I promise. That was comforting in a surprising way. While she had been somewhat intimidated by the weapons at first, she felt a bit more open to the idea now.
It was silly, but the hug seemed to make things better too. She awkwardly returned it, then glanced at the sai, rubbing the back of her neck thoughtfully. "I guess I could. I probably shouldn't be breaking the display stands though...or the furniture..." She admitted.
She picked up the other sai, the object feeling more familiar each time she grabbed one. She sort of liked the weight, and the echoes were able to watched the spins and easily helped put her hand where it needed to be to catch the handle when she tossed it. It was almost a little fun. It reminded her of walking around with the lights off in her apartment. The combination of memories and echoes made their own sort of sixth sense on where to move. She gave it a little toss, and glanced at Mirror, pushing aside the frustration and focusing on the task at hand. "Is there something better I can throw it at though?" She asked.
Evelyn felt her shoulders sink slightly, energy diminishing as quickly as it had come. She toed her ground a little and glanced up at Maya, then pushed her hand through her bangs, braid keeping her from messing with her hair too much. She wasn't picking up as much agitation from the other female now, but there were still plenty of other feelings the echoes could see. She wished there was an off button. It was almost overwhelming to deal with at the same time as she processed her own thoughts.
"I just feel like a liability all the time. I feel like someone is going to get hurt because of me. I don't want you hurt anymore than you want it to happen to me... I ....I like that you care, and I don't really hate that you want to protect me." She sat back up and glanced at the table then back at Maya.
"But...I can't promise I'm not going to get into trouble. I will be more careful, I won't go wandering the city at all hours, and I'll try to think through things a little more. But eventually, something is going to happen whether I'm careful or not. And I want to train and be able to defend myself because if that happens, I can't always rely on someone to come save me. I need to feel like I can at least help myself." She said, looking back with more determination at Maya. She was set on that much. She had been terrified in the sewer when no one was there to help her. She never felt that scared, and could barely admit it out loud. But she never wanted to feel that way again.
She felt her hands drift down to the end of her braid and she fiddled with it sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I'm still kinda sucky at this whole dating thing and I should have told you when it happened..."
Evelyn flinched at the tone in Maya's voice. The echoes emphasized it for her mind and amplified all the frustration that was hidden behind it. She felt guilty, like that stomach turning painfully squeezing guilt that was almost as bad as the memories themselves.
She looked away from Maya. At least that way the echoes weren't stabbing her with the emotions.
"Sam had enough rumors going around, last thing I wanted was to add to it because he had to carry me back to the mansion... It's not his fault, so don't bug him about it." She added, picking the sai back up. She needed something in her hands. "I've been wanting to tell you myself."
Nothing sounded right. She really hated talking to people. She really hated knowing how people felt and having absolutely nothing helpful to say back. "I just had to deal with it myself first..." She added, staring at the metal object then sighing in frustration. Echoes of pain returned, and she flinched again, then threw the sai at the wooden rack where the longer weapons were at. Her memories caused her to throw it a bit harder than she intended, and the pointed weapon buried itself in the wood with a thunk. She looked again from it and leaned against the table, crossing her arms and simmering with her own emotions.
Evelyn glanced at her companion, and his visible change of demeanor stopped most of the questions that had come to the surface of her thoughts. There were so many things to read there, so many things she was fairly certain he didn't want her to see. Guilt, sadness, frustration, denial. He was saying one thing, but his actions were saying something completely different. Her mutation continued to listen, taking note of what he said and what he didn't. Then she looked back at the television and watched the illogical movement of the magical house.
"Well, maybe it's just me then." She said quietly and focused on the movie. She wondered what it would have been like, growing up normal then suddenly becoming a mutant. She never felt normal, not really. She had always been different. But perhaps it would have been worse if she had a normal life and had it taken away. She couldn't really loose what she didn't have at this point.
Evelyn's echoes were busy analyzing his carefully worded reply, and she almost missed the slightly devilish smile he gave her. Her own emotions collided with the technical information and it was like tripping over her own thoughts as she tried to reassess what he had said. Meanwhile, the words rang in her mind and clung to it like used bubble gum. An abundance of pretty young birds... She shook her head, the color vanishing about as quickly as it appeared. "Well, at least you have something to stay loyal to." She remarked aloud. She sipped her drink and glanced for the window. Jensen was busy checking the oil in the limo. As if he had nothing better to do.
"I suppose new things always have an appeal, but a hometown has deep roots on a person. You can move on, but I've found it tends to tether you, in a way." The was the casual hint thrown in that perhaps he tried to disregard his past and his old life, but it would always be a part of him. He tried to act casual and as if there was nothing more to him, but things were always more complex than that. He had a lot under the surface, and he liked playing a game of smoke and mirrors. But every once and while someone would get a wisp of the real him. The question was, what would they find?
He had a certain fondness for clothes. Just smoke and mirrors, again. "I'm not opposed to decent fashion, although a lot can be said when one cares too much for appearances. Vanity has it's own crippling effect if one isn't careful." She remarked aloud. The echoes honed in on his last remark. No city is perfect... He tried hard to keep up appearances, but there were still 'factories' breaking up the skylines. There were pieces of him perhaps he couldn't hide, couldn't get rid of. She still suspected he nosed around in less than legal activities. That would certainly account for the imagry.
Maya was mostly keeping it together. Evelyn wasn't a mind reader though, so she couldn't really tell what the Mirror-walker was thinking. But she could see the wheels turning, the subtle traces of anger somewhere beneath the surface. Evelyn wished she had something back in her hand, but the question simmered in her head a little. She was careful how she answered, though, keeping her promise to Sam. The last thing she needed was someone trying to track down the guy who beat her up and find out he was--
"Just some dumb-ass who had a problem with my parents. I didn't see what happened to him when I left...It was just me being in the wrong place at the wrong time, again. Sam found me and got me home though..." She figured that would be ok to admit, considering someone might have seen the ice mutant drop her off. And she was still telling the truth. Avery did have a problem with her parents, and he had shown it once already. She also wasn't sure what happened when Sam helped her away. She was mostly just sure he wasn't getting up anytime soon.
Evelyn crossed her arms across her chest and felt the anger and frustration simmer in her gut at the thought. It quickly melted with the memories of how helpless she had felt, and she pushed her hair from her face. She kept it together, but her hands shook against her will. "It wasn't even a mutant. I should...I should have been able to fight him better..." She muttered quietly. The memories hurt in more than one way. It was hard to admit it out loud. But if she had to talk to someone, she was glad it was Mirror.
