The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

His question was expected, and Evelyn turned back to face him with a shrug. The echoes were still chattering about the movie, but she focused on the information they had already given to help with the realization. "When you talk about kids, you don't speak as if you're one of them. When you flipped through the channels your expression about different shows just seemed more...adult. Like you had seem them before. You talk a bit older than you are... It's like...puzzle pieces. Nothing specific sets it off, just all the little bits together." She said, turning back to her drawing.
It was hard to really explain it out loud sometimes. Sometimes, she just worried it would sound rude. 'You look like you're seven but you're talking to me like an equal, you don't flinch at television violence, or act excited to watch it like it's something you don't normally do...' things like that could lead to further offending the kid.
Or teen. She was started to gradually pick and age range for him based on his actions.
Evelyn found herself visibly surprised when Aiden spoke next. Somehow, the teen hadn't struck her as the sort to give advice, but maybe something their conversation had struck a cord he could relate to. She didn't know a lot about him, and she had been trying her best to keep the echoes from filling in information he might not want her to know. But he seemed genuinely uncomfortable the whole time. Maybe, in a way, she assumed it was just the general discomfort with other mutants she seemed to encounter recently. She wasn't quite sure what it was now. Maybe a little bit of that was just directed towards himself.
"I guess..." She was somewhat at a loss for words. She watched the t.v. for a short while, and tucked her sketchbook to the side. She pulled her knees up and rested her chin on them and frowned somewhat thoughtfully as she watched the colorful characters on the screen. The little flame in the fireplace was talking, but her thoughts were somewhere else.
"Do you ever wish you hadn't been a mutant? Sometimes...Sometimes I like my mutation, and sometimes I don't. I keep meeting lots of people who are really proud of what they can do though, but I just...I've never felt that way..." She remarked. Even the echoes didn't feel so loud with the sounds of her own thoughts interrupting them.

The hug was reassuring, but Evelyn still felt guilty over the whole thing. The kiss made her feel better and worse at the same time. Sometimes she felt like a kid when she was around the x-men. It was like they were all out there saving the world in crap, and she was just someone else that would need to be saved. It was all still pretty new though. Maybe time and training would help...
"Training is probably the good idea... Training, or pepper spray...or both..." She murmured, glancing up and glancing uncertainly at Maya's smile.
>>"Seriously though, tell me next time, okay?"
That made it rather impossible to smile back. "I'll try I just... I didn't even know what to say! 'Hey Maya, so I went out the other night and was going to give this food to a sewer monster, then he attacked me, and oh, when my phone died and I tried to walk to the store to get a cab, someone jumped me and I got beat up more'." She blurted out in exasperation. She tossed the escrima back onto the table and it rolled back into place with it's companion piece.
She waited for the surprise to appear again. Because that was just the exclamation point to the whole week. She should have just enjoyed the hug. But it was hard to enjoy when there was still more to the dumb story to explain.

Evelyn turned and faced Maya, one arm crossed lightly across her body and holding the other. She could read the other female's expression, and wondered if Maya could see her own emotions as clearly. Getting attacked had terrified her, and it was hard to just act casual about it when she really didn't feel that way about the situation at all.
Even complete strangers knew how foolish her actions were.
"You don't have to tell me it was a bad choice to make... I kinda had that idea knocked into me...I keep wanting to feel like I can defend myself and not need someone to come to my rescue all the time but the fact is, I'm not that good at staying out of trouble. I don't...I don't feel like things are bad ideas until it's already too late to fix them. The echoes take off in one direction, and I follow, and then everything blows up in my face." She remarked. She gave a sad smile for a second then went back to the weapons. She picked up one of the escrima sticks, and rolled it over in her hand.
"As far as the other mutant goes, he wants to live where he is. He know's he is dangerous and his mutation is still growing. He just feels better living on his own and not putting anyone else at risk. He knows a few people from the mansion though. Guess Serena is someone he considers a friend. But maybe with time someone can help him." She shrugged, running a thumb across the wood.
Animal... it was strange hearing him admit just how he viewed himself. He didn't think he was really a person at this point. Just an 'animal'. Yet, it was hard to argue with that logic when she'd seen the other side of him. That was feral, and it cared little for anything other that satiating it's need to feed. Friends, books, none of that mattered to his inner monster. He just accepted that was how it was going to be.
Curiosity killed the cat... She tried not to shiver at just how right that statement could have been. She wandered places, put herself in danger, but there was little she had to protect herself. She shook her head, and once her companion was done with the empty pizza boxes, she migrated over to the trash can and put them in the bin. She'd make sure it got taken out next time she was at work and nearby. "Cat's have nine lives, and I don't think I have that privilege. If my curiosity kills me...well..." She didn't add more. It would just happen and that would be it.
She watched his claws, arm stinging with pain at just the sight of them. It was one thing to see them, another to feet the painful impact on her skin. She couldn't imagine what his strength could do now. She hoped she'd never find out. "That sounds... painful." She mused aloud. Luckily, she hadn't been unlucky enough to get shoved or thrown by him. In the sewers, that might have been deadly.
She didn't really have a response for the comment about her parents. It was always a sore spot for her, and while a lot of people thought it would be awesome to be rich and have money, she just felt like it was a leash they were still trying to keep on her. Sometimes, she felt they cared. Others, she just felt they were trying to keep her out of the way. She focused on his last question instead. "I'll call a cab to get home tonight. If I see Serena I can try saying hi for you?" She offered, pushing her hair from her face.
Sometimes having the echoes made it feel like Evelyn was having a conversation twice. Her powers answered a question shortly before someone had a chance to try to speak for themselves. Perhaps that was just one of the reasons she called them 'echoes' though. The information was just a quiet bouncing in the back of her mind as she tried to focus on the actual conversation.
"I can't imagine how tough that would be, loosing a child..." Evelyn remarked, honestly. She didn't make a big deal over it like some might have, but her expression was genuinely sad. While she could tell Lucas wasn't particularly close to the actual situation, his expression seemed to show he was effected by it. Maybe, in a way, he was facing his own echoes. Everyone had memories, and sometimes, those were enough by themselves.
Letting him change the topic, she didn't pry further, and shrugged slightly at his question. "I work at the museum. I enjoy it. Lots of art, lots of history. And if I'm lucky I get to stay in the back room and avoid the patrons." She flashed a grin momentarily, with a somewhat rueful tint. It was clear she wasn't particularly fond of customer service, and she took a large drink of her coke. The bubbles seemed to stick in her throat momentarily before they went down.
Another ill-timed memory made her fumble the next catch and the sai clattered to the floor. She reached for it with her left hand instead of her right, then set it back on the table, rubbing the back of her neck to avoid rubbing her arm. Sometimes, the echoes made it feel like she was injured all over again. It didn't help that her mind kept drifting back to the night which sparked the sensations and took effort to bury back down. Meanwhile, the echoes were giving all sorts of feedback from Maya. She wasn't sure if she was upset, or just worried... maybe protective was a better word.
"Well...yeah. Nothing DocProf couldn't help patch up though... I would rather not relive the event though..." Ironically, she knew she would have to. But the phrase was mostly a note to herself to never try something that stupid again. She poked the mace on the table, and watched it roll over, clunking against some of the smaller weapons. She wasn't sure she would even have the upper body strength to lift that, let alone swing it....

The surprise was quickly evident on Maya's face as Evelyn tried explaining things. Feeling odd taking empty handed now, she reached back to the table then fiddled with the sai more in her hands, tossing it slightly as she answered the question. "Well, you know how there are those rumors about a sewer monster living in New York? Sort of an urban legend you hear around. Well, turns out, he's real, and just a teenager with some massive monstrous mutation. I met him awhile back when he was prowling around with some potato chips, close by my apartment, and when we got to talking I said I could bring him some better food sometime..."
She watched the sai flip slightly as she tossed it, the echoes studying the movement as she rambled on. Each little toss, they mused more about the weight, guessing how many spins would result each time, watching it fall back into her palm. "And then I did and... He just doesn't have the best control over his mutation. Kinda why he keeps to himself." The sai went back down, and she picked the boomerang back up. It felt a little awkward now, and she felt like her choices were narrowing in.

There was only so much you could say when someone was suffering with something so personal. Sometimes, all you could do was listen, and understand. Evelyn did her best to do just that, sitting quietly and trying to ignore the pain from the nights injuries. She wanted to say more, do more to help. But most of the things she could say seemed like they would make it worse.
They landed on the grounds of the mansion, and it was late enough there weren’t many people up at least. She didn’t see anyone as Sam started for the infirmary, and she was somewhat relieved she didn’t have to try to walk to the infirmary herself. She nodded at Sam’s remark, catching both the meanings in the statement. ”My lips are sealed.” She quietly responded, and then they were in the office and DocProf was turning to face them. He glanced at her, her mouth started to open, but something in her expression must have said how exhausted she was, and he just motioned to the table instead.
”Set her down there, Sam. Do I really want to know what you got yourself into this time?” He said quietly, coming over and looking at the injuries. Evelyn gave a grimace of a smile, and pushed her hair from her face.
”It’s been a long night…” She remarked as he touched the cut on her arm. As the images of the sewer monster encounter replayed for the Doctor, his face visibly changed with surprise, and a touch of concern.
”I can see that…” He said, and the healing energy started to mend the injuries.
Evelyn shook her head, shifting the sai in her hand. “I’ve never been a big fan of firearms or knives, which I guess would be the most normal choice…” The memory of gunfire echoed in her mind and she shoved it away again. “I’m not really sure what fits my powers though… I guess the echoes help with my aim, but I always seem to end up in the middle of trouble…something closer ranged maybe…” She mused aloud. She glanced back up and shuffled slightly at Maya’s question, and rubbed the back of her neck.
”Well, I visited with my friend Kyle, and he just came here and it wasn’t really anything too eventful. But then I went to see a friend in the city and…well, he sort of tried to eat me.” She tried saying it as casually as possible, and not give away how terrifying the event had been. She glanced back at the table, but the echoes migrated back towards Maya, watching her body language. She quickly rambled on. ”I mean, he didn’t, I fed him pizza, but I guess he had trouble getting food and his mutation kinda...”
Well, that couldn’t have come out any more awkwardly. She glanced back at Maya and put the sai down, glancing back over at the ranged weapons. She willed the echoes to analyze them, but her own emotions kept sending them back to the mirror-walker.

The numchucks clunked back on the table, and Evelyn skipped over the knives without giving them a glance. She grinned slightly at Maya at the mention of the exhibit, and pushed her hair from her face as she fiddled with a boomerang. She couldn’t imagine when it would be useful, but it gave her something to hold while she talked.
”Yeah, not sure there would have been as much good news without your help.” She smiled, and set the boomerang back down. Wandering back to the racks with the larger weapons she picked up a spear and wondered what use either of them would be in a fight. Unless you were, you know, fighting in an arena, or in a cartoon.
”I start thinking some of these would be silly to use, but I guess if I had the right powers maybe they wouldn’t.” She mused aloud, setting the spear back down. She recognized the pair of sai on the end of the table, and was tempted to pick them up. But she wanted to scan the other weapons still. She considered the idea of picking up the bow and arrows, but part of her felt it would just feel like copying at that point. She needed something that felt comfortable to her. And since most her confrontations seemed to be close range, being armed with a bow and arrow probably wouldn't help with that.
Evelyn’s cheeks tinted a little pink at the last remark, but she smiled again as she chuckled. It was a good blush. She was somewhat flattered by the idea Maya was thinking about her. ”I guess I’ve been kind of restless this week. I visited with a few friends though. That sort of went ok…” She tried not to flinch as an ill-timed echo of pain went through her right arm. She moved over to the sai finally and picked them up. The weight felt nice in her hands compared to some of the other weapons, and not quite as silly. Heck, she already fought with them once. Maybe instinct made that choice already…

It was immediately clear Evelyn had guessed correctly. The information settled, his face moved from confusion, then after second of thought, erupted into rage. Apparently, he didn’t like her guessing his powers.
And then the mind reader accusation came up again.
She felt somewhat torn between laughing and feeling bad. But the only response she gave to his display was the slight twitch on the corner of her mouth as she resisted a smile. ”I’m not a mind reader. You just act different than you look.” It was the simplest way she could word it, and she looked back down at her sketchbook. Her face was calm, and she shaded the edge of her picture as the television continued to clamor.

Evelyn took a few breathes and wandered along the display of weapons. It took a second to calm the initial rush of nervous energy, but she was starting to feel more relaxed about the idea as Maya explained what they were doing.
That was, until the conversation shifted to what she’d been up to.
Memories moved through her mind in a little wash, from work, to her rather unfortunate adventures not long ago. She wasn’t sure how the other female would respond to everything, and, while she didn’t want to exactly hide what she had been doing, just blurting out ‘Got attacked by a sewer monster’ seemed like a bad way to start the day.
”Work has been a little busier, we did some inventory and stuff the other day, they finished repairing everything and business has started back up but we’re still short staffed.” She started. She moved forward and picked up one of the longer staff weapons. It felt odd in her hands, light at first but when she moved it, the ends felt heavier with the kinetic energy. The echoes struggled to estimate the weight and length, but she redirected them as she set it back down. She glanced over at the table, and picked up a pair of numchucks instead. She smirked as she held one of them up.
”This is just an accident waiting to happen with me.” The movement of the stick on the end of the chain kept catching the echoes attention, and she gave in a light flick, listening as the echoes responded trying to guess where they’d go. They pretty much sucked at guessing.
”What about you? What have you been up to?” She asked, glancing over as she set it back down.

Evelyn found it hard to imagine living a life where there were no books. She couldn’t imagine not reading, and it didn’t matter that she knew how the story went and never forgot the book. She still enjoyed sitting down and turning the pages. She felt genuinely sad for Sylar, and frowned, chewing on her pizza little more slowly. ”Honestly, I couldn’t imagine not reading. I don’t know if ‘miss’ would even be the right word if I couldn’t read.” She mused quietly.
His joke made her smile a little though, and she shrugged, chuckling. ”’Obvious’ is sort of a problem for me. Nothing is as obvious in my eyes. What looks obviously dangers to someone is filled with all these contradictory signals of interesting facts and mysteries and honestly, sometimes I think the echoes just want to learn more and drag me along with them.”
Even eating slowly, and in a somewhat ladylike manner, the piece of pizza was almost completely gone. She had little to physically chew on while she processed what he said. ”At least your mutation made you stronger. You don’t have to worry about many people getting the upper hand against you.” She said, almost a little enviously. She didn’t want to be in his situation, living in the sewer, especially since it would keep her from art and reading, writing… But She hated feeling helpless. She would give up a little of her normal life if it meant she could stand on her own two feet.
She nodded her head at his thank you, and finished off her own piece of pizza. ”Don’t worry about it. I like when I can do something useful. Plus, most of my money ended up coming from my parents, and since they were so smug about their opinions of mutants, I think it’s sort of appropriate to make sure I spend it on occasions like this.” She said with a shrug.
