The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As Locke faced her, Evelyn could read the emotions crossing his features. It was clear her choice of attire wasn't exactly meeting his approval, which was irritating in a small way. It wasn't like she had clothes to go play in the dirt, which seemed to be what Locke had a habit of doing. His clothing was saturated with the stuff, and it made her skin crawl a little in preparation. She wasn't really opposed to getting dirty like some girl's, but it didn't mean she necessarily liked the sensation. Dirt clung to your nose, and got in your ears. It stuck in the wrinkles of your skin and she disliked the sensation. Paint, now paint she could be covered in and not care. That was her realm.
This...This was something different.
Removing her shoes took some surrendering of her ego, and she slowly obeyed, keeping her mouth shut. There was something stern about Locke, but nothing mean she could see at this point. The echoes studied him while she undid her shoelaces, rather than just kicking them off with one toe shoving into the heel of the other. She took them off properly, if only to accent the difference. [Dead left eye. Scarred.] The echoes chimed up, and Evelyn glanced for a second to confirm the observation. [Powers likely associated with dirt and or earth.] That one was easier to assume, considering they were standing in so much of it, and he seemed to be wearing it. Most people didn't like hanging out in something unless they had a certain affinity to it. Especially when they had something like the danger room at their disposal. As her feet hit the dusty earth, she pushed her hair from her face and tried to pull her attention back.
"I'm not sure removing my shoes is going to stop the probability of me breaking something." She finally remarked, one hand lightly across her torso, the other dangling by her side. Not quite a defensive posture, but not quite at ease either. She wanted to learn, but she was also still learning and assessing her teacher. Age didn't matter to her. They would start on equal ground here, and from there the echoes would learn and she could sort out what she thought of the stranger now teacher.

So would this happen over just the course of one night in character? Like Halloween? Because that might have an appeal because it would make it just a somewhat small thing to participate in and if it stretches on a little bit it's not changing any major events...

As soon as Gawain scooted away Evelyn's face returned to it's stunning shade of red for a moment. Thankfully she was pretty sure Gawain's back was turned. She was somewhat glad he moved. Her echoes were processing at a painfully choppy rate that was somewhat consistent with her hearts thundering. Personal space was something that was hard to mess with without embarrassing herself, but it was a small victory. As Gawain stood and set himself up to shoot she tried to think of something to talk about so she could try to distract him.
"So, that time that guy Kyle was here he tried to help me with my self defense. Nearly gave myself a bloody nose. Helped with a few things though." She said in a string of words. She trained the echoes in on Gawain's aim, watching for signs he was messing up, while leaning back and trying to be casual.
Her face was still red. Casual wasn't working so well.

Evelyn frowned slightly at Gawain's remark, some of the fun of the situation dissipating as she remembered what initiated the playful brawl. She considered letting it stay serious, or letting it go for now. Angua barked and licked her face and she decided maybe they could deal with that later.
"We can work on not getting distracted. You start." She scooted closer, intentionally planting herself inches from Gawain, petting Angua to keep from getting head butted while she was trying to be distracting.
"I'll keep talking, you don't get distracted." It took all her focus to keep the pink in her cheeks from flooding her face. She was feeling brave today though and it was helping her keep her cool at the moment. Her face still felt warm though. Maybe keeping her cool was a sort of technical thing...

>>"Not bad though..."
Evelyn grinned, drinking in compliment for the moment. Then Gawain went and popped her bubble.
>> As long as your opponent doesn't make you blush that is..."
"Hey! You're the exception, not the rule. Not my fault you are using your charm to your advantage against me." She stuck out her tongue then smirked slightly. "Plus, two can play at that game."

>> "Oh, I can think of a lot of things"
Mayday, mayday, that took care of the echoes, and Evelyn grew further scarlet and let out a nervous giggle. She was preoccupied enough she didn't catch Angua's presence until she was getting a tongue bath and a cold nose shoved in her face by the dog. She laughed and scooted away, Angua forced to choose between the two and thankfully favoring Gawain. She smirked and shook her head, face slowly gaining it's normal pale color, while inwardly her heart was still thundering in her throat.
It would be a good thing if this never happened in real combat. Being embarrassed into submission wasn't the usual tactical maneuver people used, but it still had a crippling effect on her thoughts she tried not to admit.
As the tail wagging swung a bit close to her face, Evelyn chuckled, and grinned around the dog's figure. "I think she's jealous."

The kiss made the echoes pause for a moment, but then she was back to wiggling free of Gawain's hold. Well, that might have been the goal. Instead she found herself mostly pinned and staring down at Mirror.
>>"So now what?"
Evelyn's echoes assessed the situation and brought a shade of red to her face that was impossible to hide. She coughed slightly and sheepishly looked away. "Well....Maybe you should think of something." She quickly stammered before the echoes made her feel more awkward than she already did. The echoes were breaking her this time.

Falling... there always seemed to be a lot of falling when they practiced, and while she had her stance pretty decent this time, nothing really helped when the other person toppled over. She flinched slightly as Gawain fell against the tree, and sheepishly grinned over her shoulder.
"Alls fair in love and training?" She remarked, then stuck out her tongue at his comment. With her free arm she tried to get a grip on the mirror-walkers wrist to free herself. If it were a real fight things like pressure points were fair game, but this was more a playful defense of her ego. Instead, she tried to loop her leg behind Gawain's to send him the rest of the way to the ground.

The echoes were useful at times, but then others they tended to make things more difficult. Dragging their attention back away from the bow and Angua was not an easy task, and while she had been practicing her timing was still a little slow. Gawain was already moving, and she had little time to react. Still, little time was more than no time.
Gawain went to grab her and Evelyn shifted her stance, swinging her arm back to try and push away one of his arms. She didn't fall over, point for her, but it still wasn't perfectly executed to stop his move entirely. Chances of her getting one arm trapped and the other free were very high, and chances of escaping without resorting to rude measures like kicking immediately dropped.

Angua....Evelyn was not quite planning on that move, and the echoes scrambled to suggest an idea as the giant dog started forward. She was grateful for her fast thinking at this point. Otherwise, she would have already had the bow yanked from her arm. Fetch... She had to think like Angua for a second. Was fetch Evelyn, or fetch the bow? She was pretty sure it would be the bow, especially when she gave it a toss up towards the nearest tree, where it casually dangled from one of the smaller branches.
"Oh, whoops. My bad." Ok, she wasn't sorry. At least not yet. She would be if she still got ever so lovingly tackled by the dog anyway. Self defense against humans was one thing. Animals was another field she wasn't close to getting into yet.

>>"Now there's the Evelyn I remember dragging off into the Danger Room"
She laughed and put a hand on her hip, grinning slightly. "Not quite the same Evelyn. Next time you try that I don't think you'll find it quite as easy."
The echoes flickered back to life, feeding off Gawain's body language. With a smirk, she laughed, and responded quickly as he bowed. In a quick movement she swiped the bow from across his shoulder where he had placed it, and darted a few feet away, grinning with a twinkle in her eye.
>>"It shall be a fair fight."
"Fair fight, perhaps.... Can't say much for what the echoes do though." Her posture was calm enough, but she had learned a few things during the lessons she had taken. It would only take a few steps to shift her body weight so she couldn't get knocked over as easily, and while she wasn't tough, she was nimble enough out here in the open to make a challenge out of a game of keep away.

Relief settled, and the breathe Evelyn had been holding finally left her lungs. Not that she wasn't ready to tryout, but she was still somewhat nervous about it. A little delay had it's advantages, and she smiled, pushing her hair from her face. "Sounds like a plan then. Gives me time to train a little more at least..."
>>"I guess all I can do is keep an eye on you, huh"
"Hey!" Evelyn stuck her tongue out and crossed her arms with a shake of her head. "I can't tell if I'm flattered at this point or I feel challenge by it. Maybe both. You're just as good at getting into trouble as me. Eventually I'll be about as good at getting out of it, then we'll see who's keeping an eye on who." While Gawain had experience on her, the echoes had given her a tactical leg up on situations like these. She wasn't going to challenge someone to a fist fight, but she still felt like she should be able to hold her ground before long.

The conversation had admittedly gone over better than Evelyn expected. Especially when Mirror asked if she wanted to officially try out. Even the echoes took a second to process that statement.
"Now?" She blurted out, glancing down at her outfit quickly. Which was dumb, because she could already remember what she was wearing, but the human instinct to check was still there. Jeans, shoes. No skirt so it wasn't exactly a bad time...
"I guess so. I mean, yes. I didn't mean to interrupt your practice though." She added. She glanced at where the last arrow had landed, hand getting butted by Angua's head until she resumed petting. She tried not to let her surprise show through though. She wanted to keep her confidence in this choice.

The quick blush filled in the last few gaps for Evelyn, and her echoes had a mental stutter for a second before she pulled them back on track. She didn't she was really that distracting as far as appearances went. Unless Sam ever got his way with the skirted x-uniforms for girls. Although, she typically wore light colors, black would have a different look on her... If they got to chose colors...
She brought the distracted artist side of her back and focused on the conversation. She smiled reassuringly and chuckled slightly. "I think that sounds fair. I'm sure someone can help me spar." Although, last time she tried anything close to sparing Kyle nearly busted her nose. She learned a lot, but she could see the disadvantage of having that happen around Mirror. She wondered if she'd be able to spar with someone who wasn't an x-men to train... It was something worth looking into.
"Anyway, I need to get through tryouts first." She shifted so she could lean back against a nearby tree, inwardly hoping she wouldn't make a fool of herself even trying this. Her confidence wavered and returned the more she analyzed things.

>>"I meant, distracting for me. Not you..."
Ok, that was a point she didn't have a good argument for. She chewed her bottom lip though, and sent the echoes to work on the problem. They scrambled to help her organize her words, feedback on Gawain fading as they did so.
"Well, I mean, we train together already, maybe that can help so I won't be as distracting... I guess it sort of depends on what distracts you most though. I mean, if I'm not directly in the fight you won't have to worry about me getting injured so that won't be a problem like it it's been before. And with training I'll be able to stand up for myself more anyway." She redirected the echoes again, trying to see if she was on the right track at all. She was regretting not bringing something with her. At least when they talked while training there was something to mess with or focus on other than Gawain.
