The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If Aura were into carpentry, then she could have more of a different kind of mutation than this odd pink...well...aura. What could it possibly be? Then again, Fade had a few different manipulations of her powers. For example, turning invisible is one thing, but turning just your skin invisible so everyone could see your muscles was something else entirely, although it was the same thing really.
"Look, I don't think the same as you, but I'm not one to get people arrested. Please, I won't be so anti-cops next time, but I hate the police. Just don't kill anymore," she said. It was a far-fetched request and like hell if Aura would actually do it, but she figured she might as well try. As for the police, Fade had her own criminal record and telling the cops that Aura was the criminal may have gone well until they checked her background and found all of her charges of theft, breaking and entering and such.
"I know you don't remember your name, and I really hate being called by my real name... hell, I don't even remember my last name because my real family died so long ago, before I was even a mutant, I was targetted. But my real name is Jenny," she said, unsure of whether she even told the girl her codename in the first place. Now she felt really dumb, but hopefully she did tell her, who knows... She was not expecting a name back, and truth be told, she would rather Aura just called her Fade, just because of the life she lived before and how much the memories hurt her, but she at least gave her the name. Even Sam had to look up Fade's file before he found out what her name was.
She talked about sitting on dead bodies. While it was a disturbing thought, for some odd, really really odd, reason, Fade smiled, nearly laughed. Just the little play on words was funny, not the killing of innocent people. She watched as Aura sort of toyed with her powers, it was shocking how the girl did not get annoyed by how often Fade's eye color changed. In the short time that she was looking at Aura's hand, it must have changed to three different colors. It was ironic that both of them had been with people who no longer were around, although the Prophet was definitely dead and there was a giant question mark hovering over Raph's memory. Where had he gone. "I am sorry," she said, unsure of what else to say.
Venus leaned in to tell her what seemed to be a secret. Well, really, it was because the music was so loud that they could hardly talk without shouting, but he explained how he and his brothers came to be. Now that was some kind of mental disorder? Who knew? Fade had seen something like that in a movie called A Beautiful Mind but she had no clue what all of that meant. It truly was a mutant's world if he completely understood what she meant and she began to wonder whether she had been formed out of someone else's mind. Well, that would be one messed up brain to produce her.
"Well, if it means anything, I'm glad he came up with you," she said, smirking, her blush gone and her face full of confidence. You could not spear this girl with inconfidence because now she had alcohol effects and it was unstopable. Of course, she would have to stop before anything got out of control, hopefully, but her hands did trail to his chest, as if feeling his heart beat. It was so strong, but she pulled her eyes back up to his.
Small little Fade, wow, what a kiddo, huh? As Venus got closer and more brave with his hands, she spent most of her mental battles trying to stop blushing at the moment. Now that the alcohol was taking an effect and she felt her blood warm up, her confidence built up as well and she actually hid her blush when he slightly caressed her. His eyes closed and he began to dance, showing her how by leading. When she lived on the streets, if she needed to learn something, she taught herself, it was odd to have someone teaching her something for a change. Maybe one day she would be adventurous enough to allow someone to teach her how to read and write, but that would out her secret in the first place.
Feeling more confident, she moved in closer, placing herself so close to him that ever slight movement they made had a small contact, like a tickle, when her body brushed against his. It took her all her strength to not giggle at this because she was not used to dancing or dancing like this really. Her face was determined with a slight bit of flirt stirred up in the smirk she had painted across her soft lips. One wouldn't say alcohol made people do things they normally wouldn't, it just gave people the confidence to do the things they always wished they could do, at least in proper doses.
"So were you all born at the same time or did you branch of from someone?" she said, referring to his identical brothers, or whatever they were. Speaking of which, he knew her power now, what power did he have other than the power of smooth talking?
No matter how many times she did it, no matter how many times she needed to be prompt, Fade had never been able to just wake up early and start out her day fresh. While many different people may think that early is around 6 am, early was any time Fade did not want to wake up, and right now, she did not want to wake up. The alarm next to her bed sounded, who knew what time it was, but it was time for this tryout thing to happen and she was far from happy to jump up into her running shoes and take this on. Funny how she had to tryout again, but she would still have fun.
To try to wake herself up, she jumped in the shower and and towel dried her hair. Dressed in sweat pants and a regular tee shirt, with a few holes if you looked close enough, she walked down the hall and made her way to the Danger Room. My my my, it was so good to be home. A little bonus for the day happened to be who would be hosting her tryout, Shawn, who was very good looking and an easy guy to talk to. Lucky for her, she had taken a Danger Room session with Shawn a while back and she was excited to do this again. Apparently Raina would be joining her, but she hardly knew much about Raina.
When she reached the Danger Room, she went on in and waved hello to Shawn. "Hey there. Good to see you in the Danger Room again," she smiled before taking a seat. Some girls might come skipping in and just prance all around him, or any of those other cute X-Boys, but Fade just appreciated a good face and what made it better was that Streak was a fun guy, their last training session was delightful with all those dives from airplanes and landing in water and swimming around.
The topic of mutant sports seemed so much less important now that Fade found herself staring at a girl that was crushing on her. This was the first time this had happened, or maybe it was the first time it had happened and Fade had actually realized that it was happening? Or maybe it was just - damn, she just needed to shut up. "I'd love to have a sport for climbing, I mean, rock climbing and mountain climbing, I'd do that any day," she said. Was she getting a knack for walking on the wild side again? First there was Venus, who she had met at a bar, now there was Aura. Both of which, she knew to be bad, but she did not do anything about it.
If there was one thing that was for certain, if she ever had to face them off in a huge battle, she would at least get to survive. So would they, of course, Fade was no killer, but now she had some security, no matter how much it made her blush. What had Fade's memories ever caused her to do? She never wrecked her room searching for someone who was dead, but then again, she had left the Mansion looking for Raph, but who knew if he was dead or not. "I left the only home I've ever had to search for my boyfriend who went missing last year and drank myself into oblivion," she said, not sure if that was any better than tearing up her room. Probably was not, but she had some alcoholic qualities.
"But how can we protect our people if we turn humans against us and make them think we are monsters? We only paint targets on all of the other mutants when we do this, we place a stereotype on ourselves and the human race only wants to get rid of us because we pose this threat. If we are not threats to them, if we live peacefully, sure we will have some human supremacists but not that happened after civil rights," (or so she heard on tv once).
How could she catch her eye in a more appealing way? "You can catch my eye in a more appealing way by not standing over someone's dead body next time I see you," she said, through her invisibility. For one, death was a major turn off, and so was killing. She tried to speak up and say she had fun too, but as she was thinking things through, she could feel her feet phasing through the floor, her body was too embarassed and wanted to get out, but she had to focus on her powers and stop running away, even if she did remain visible. "Raphael was my last, but I have not seen him for a year. I don't know what to make of that," she said finally, spitting the words out quickly before she rethought them.
((yeah, sorry. I had already written about how you lead her to the dancefloor before I realized there was a fight going on, but my computer was like 2 minutes away from dying so I had to wrap it up really quickly))
Her manners had slipped her mind when she phased her face through him. What the hell was she doing? Did she really just do that? When she returned, she bit her lip. What had seriously gotten into her? Was she losing her touch? Sometimes people just did whatever crossed their mind and they waited until later to think it through. Great, so now Fade was one of those action now, think later people, although she really had been her entire life, she was just always in denial.
"Oh, I can't see in your body, I can only phase through it. If you can imagine, your body is pretty much pitch black when I open my eyes while phasing through, so I dunno if you're body's ok or-" she paused. Wow, did she really just say something that stupid? "You're body's just fine," she said, feeling a random surge of confidence. She placed her hand on his chest, right where his heart should be and patted as if to say 'good boy'.
He could do quite a lot of dances, all sorts of dances she did not even know existed. Fade had heard of the Tango and the Waltz, but hell if she actually knew how to do it. "Oh please, teach me how to move," she teased, feeling her burst of confidence quickly dimishing and the red tint on her cheeks began to rise again. Maybe she took it too far in that statement, but hell, he had his hands on her hips. She was just fine.
Aura took a defensive approach to Fade's attempt to pull her away from the cops. Of course, Fade would have done the same, but there was nothing she could say to make the girl think that she was trustworthy and just did not want the cops to come. In that sense, she was a bit different from the other X-Men. She preffered to talk to the one she was fighting with, hopefully talk them out of their beliefs. Throwing them in jail would only fuel their firey hatred towards mankind. Thanks to the registration camps, that hatred grew even worse.
"That's why there should be special mutant sports, something we come up with on our own that has to be done by mutants or the game cannot be played. I agree that me on a Capture the Flag team would not be the best idea because I would win all the time, or high jump, I could just phase through the pole if I didn't make it. But what if we had games that were special and different." A thought pierced her mind. What about cheating in school? She would have easily cheated in school if she ever went. And what about jobs? Technomancers could controll the system they are being hired by. In a way, mutants were so powerful that humans felt belittled.
She then spoke about her combat calmness. Apparently she would only be calm in battle and she found dancing and...well, Fade, to be beautiful. Now she was not complimented very often, and even if it was by a crazy girl, it was still appreciated and she froze for a second, but only a second. She could not stay like this much longer. "Only calm in battle? Maybe you should find a better pass-time. Video games? I find climbing buildings to be much more relaxing," she said, smiling at the thought of climbing up a building and jumping to the next. Damn, she loved her power.
"No one should ever get used to watching someone die. It's someone's life torn right from this, how can you watch that like a tv show?" Some people could do it, but those people were known as pschopaths. "I was kidnapped when I was little. When I was recovered, my father and sister were dead and my mother was in a mental institution. I was sent to live in a foster home, who freaked out when I gained my power. I had to run away, I have been on the run ever since until I found the Mansion. Humans had treated me wrong, yes, and I stole from them, I stole quite a bit from them. But you know, it takes an even braver person to forgive the humans for anything that happened in your past."
Things took a different turn. Aura placed her hand on Fade's cheekbone and the shock of contact pleaded for Fade to phase her cheek so Aura's hand would go right through it. It was odd, but she remained where she stood. Again with the dance, it was hardly a dance. The way she spoke about Fade's looks made her blush. Great, not again, she mentally slapped herself. It was inevitable. If she was complimented, her cheeks turned red. A small uncomfortable smile appeared on her face, she had no clue what to do. "Uh... yeah, you too," she said, making eye contact for just a second before she felt her cheeks tingling again and she had to look away.
What the hell was she thinking? This was a member of the Order, and it was a girl! Well, mutants were always regarded with such difference, she knew how homosexuals or bisexuals felt now that she was set apart from the 'norm'. But were they really so different? Could Fade be one? It was a question that Fade feared, she always hoped she would never be faced with something like this, but there it was, standing in front of her in the form of...pink. To keep herself concealed, she turned invisible. I suppose she never grew out of that stage of turning invisible when she did not know what to do. "Uh... yeah... uh..." she just blanked. Well, splended way to sound crazy.
Typical Jenny to take things quite literally. She looked around to see if anyone was looking at her. Maybe one was, but that was probably because he thought it was interesting that a young woman was talking to a giant red man. He was like her own personal Red Bull. Before she was able to think any longer, he had taken her hand and was already dancing around, moving her towards the dance floor. Alcohol has a way of making people think they could dance, and currently, she thought she could dance.
Suddenly, a fight broke out. Fade's currently blue eyes shot wide open and she peered through Venus to see what was going on. Why the hell had a fight broken out? Was there something they did wrong? Abyss's huge body blocked her from watching any more and she struggled to peer around him before finally simply phasing through his body. It would look rather weird for her to do this, so she turned invisible the second her head popped out of his back to look onto the fight. Her hands were still resting on Venus, but she wanted to see what that was all about. Apparently, his brother had cleared the floor.
Sighing in relief, she pulled her head out of his body and turned visible, hoping he hadn't noticed where she darted off to, having someone phase through you body is a rather uncomfortable feeling when it finally dawns on you. Right, where were they? "Uh, I don't know where we left off. You were going to tell me what kind of dances you can do...?" she asked in confusion, it was the only thing she could think of at the moment.
You know, for someone who is confused about how to feel for humans, Aura had some good points. Humans that Fade had met in her days had been mean, they had locked her up, they had cut her down, chased her around and made her life miserable. If it was not for the promise that she would never send anyone through what she went through because of how painful it was, she would have just turned visible and walked away, holding Aura's hand and skipping like best friends, but she could not do that. Humans could be mean, but in mind, mutants and humans were the same, both felt pain, both strove for dominance, the only thing that separated them were mutant powers.
'A rose by any other name still smells as sweet,' or something like that. Someone had told her that once, although it was meant to be a pick up line, it helped her see some things differently. She was called a mutant, but she still looked like a human, she still acted like a human, she could still be hurt just like a human, she just had a different name and maybe a bit more thorns than the rest of her roses. Still, quote Shake'n'Bake or whatever that British guy who said that would be a bit lame, so she just kept it to herself.
"The Golden Age is when our two sub-species can live together, peacefully," she said, proud of her big word: sub-species. For an uneducated woman, that was a pretty good choice and she invisibly patted her back. A siren sounded from far off but she was not ready to end this just yet, apparently someone found the guy in the alley because only one cop car and an ambulance were on it's way, not a bunch of cops to subdue the duet. In order to not be caught, she got down on her hands and knees, she grabbed Aura, turned her invisible and pulled her away from the edge. The second she let go, Aura was visible again. Too bad she had not conquered her phasing power to phase the two of them inside.
"I'd rather I didn't go to jail tonight," she said, although it would be easy for her to escape even if she was caught. Still, jail smelled bad and she just did not want to leave the scene.
If he said he had more red in the future, she was not sure if he was referring to her hair color or the bright color her cheeks were slowly becoming. Dammit, Jenny, grow some, she mentally told herself, muffling a giggle from the words she used. Grow some? But then that would defeat the purpose of being a woman!? Maybe she better not think too hard about that, it was not always the safest idea to giggle about thoughts that no one else could hear.
Somehow a preteen that bulged up with muscles and such would become the head jockey of the football team and loved by everyone. Maybe he at least had a school he attended. He was educated, he had to have gone to school, although there were actually quite a few mutants who had not had the pleasure of living that life style. Damn schools and their parents. She hated retelling her past because usually everyone realized that since she never went to school she did not know how to read and then that always turned out badly. She hated it when people judged her or when they said 'sorry' for something that was not their fault or anything like that.
"Oh come on, least you turned some heads," she joked, choosing to avoid the whole 'oh pity me' path because it was rather boring from her perspective. Maybe he'd tell her some other day, maybe she'd be more interested some other day, in fact. His hand dropped to her knee and it jumped slightly. Contact? Yes, it was something she was not accustomed to these days. Maybe she got a hug from someone or a gentle smile or a fist flying towards her face but really nothing too much more. There went her cheeks again. She really needed to toughen up.
"Right," she smiled through a small huff, it was her attempt at being 'tough' although it failed miserably. What better way for more contact than to dance? The dance floor was taken up by a few people brawling but she could phase through them and it did not look like it was really bother him much, he was too big of a guy. She jumped to her feet after finishing her drink, grabbed his hand that was on his knee and tugged slightly, there was no point to pulling, he was obviously harder to move than a truck with it's parking break on. "Dance?"
