The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Alex leaned on his right arm as he listened to Ashton tell Alex that the Defiance was to large to be considered street legal, and he could be arrested for having it on him. When the policeman said that it had to be left in the motel room, Alex frowned to show his dislike of the idea, but he slowly nodded. "Very well... I will keep it inside the hotel room for now, at least until I get an apartment or a house that is." Alex stated, then looked off into the distance in thought. "I doubt I'll ever find a safe that I'll be satisfied with though..." Alex mumbled as he thought out loud, then his eyebrows went up when he realized a bit of a problem.
"Hm... there was one thing I neglected to tell you about that knife, and I think it might be required for you to know. What I told you was the secondary reason why I carry it. The primary reason is..." Alex stated, but he was interrupted by the sound of someone shouting what sounded like salt, followed by Ashton turning his head and trying to figure out what the sound had been. "What on Earth?" Alex stated after he heard a scream, and then his eyes widened when he saw that the door into his recovery room started to glow red.
"Look out!" Alex yelped as he grabbed Ashton and pulled him behind the bed and took cover there himself. The instant after they were both in cover, there was a loud bang, and pieces of the door went flying into the room, and imbedded themselves into the wall that was across from the door. If Alex hadn't grabbed Ashton, the cop would've been hit by the shrapnel. "Knock Knock! Anyone home? No? Darn. Oh well..." said a rather squeaky voice, followed by the sound of someone walking... or more like skipping away. It was only then that Alex let go of Ashton and peered up over the bed. An elderly man dressed in a patient's gown and holding a paint brush in one hand was prancing away from the remains of the door, which was now nothing more then a hole that was five feet wide.
A nurse limped up to the hole, and looked inside of the room with her pain visible on her face. "Are... are you alright?" she tried to say, but was having trouble because she was bleeding rather badly from her left leg.
When Chelsey responded to Alex's question on why she was hear with a dry chuckle, something made him think that she either found the situation humorous, or regretted being in this situation completely. When she broke her gaze away from him and looked down at her feet, Alex guessed that she was regretting getting herself in this situation, and Alex quite frankly wouldn't blame her for that. However, when she replied to his question by saying that it was just a lesson she had to learn, Alex cocked an eyebrow, puzzled. "Uh... no, apparently I don't know. A gangster's idea of teaching someone a lesson is beating them to death, laughing as they do it. That is a fate no one deserves." Alex stated as he glanced around, making sure they were still alone in case the gangsters tried to approach them from multiple angles. He didn't see anyone, which made him relieved, glad that he have to hurt anyone today.
His attention turned back to Chelsey when she asked him what type of shop he was planning on opening. When she ventured a guess at a judo defensive shop, he almost laughed. "Nope, good idea but no. I'm no martial arts expert, and I'm no hero either. What I plan on opening up is a pottery shop, where I can make clay pots and sculptures and sell them. I'm actually quite good at it." Alex stated, then shrugged as he picked up the electric lantern. "How about we get outta here? Those guys are bound to come back if they keep their word."
As Alex walked across the bridge, he was desperately trying to stay in the middle of the bridge to make sure that he stayed away from the either edge of the bridge in an attempt to lessen his chances of falling off. As he slowly crossed the bridge, he kept on asking himself how the heck did he manage to cross over it in the first place, then remembered it was because there was a small boat under the bridge at that time, so if he went over there was someone there to help get him out of the water. Now there wasn't a boat, and there was only one man a few years older then him and a purple woman that could save him if he went over, and they would have to jump over the edge to go after him.
Wait a tic... purple woman? Alex did a double take, and sure enough there was a woman whom had purple skin, or that's what it seemed like at first. There was something off about her skin though, but she was clearly purple. Her mutation was much harder to hide then Alex's mutation, but then again his power was only useful in combat while her might be useable else where, so Alex stopped coming to conclusions about the mutant that was on the other side of the bridge.
It was at that moment that the man in front of him started to glow and pulsate, and the man's breathing turned panicky. Seeing this, Alex concluded that the man was also a mutant and lost hold on his powers, and the purple woman let out a warning shout. He was proven right when marbles of what looked like energy started to come flying out of the man's torso in all directions. Instinct and reflexes took over as Alex reached into his leather jacket as his eyes started to glow green and he pulled out his malachite dagger, Defiance. The Defiance quickly widened and grew into a one inch thick shield that was just big enough to protect Alex's torso, but not enough to protect his legs, arms, or head. Raising the shield to deflect an incoming ball that was heading towards his forehead, Alex was relieved to hear the ball bounce off. That meant what ever those balls were made of, Malachite could block it. However, the force that was imparted onto the shield was enormous, and Alex had to almost strain to keep the shield in place.
Now came the hard part... trying to figure out how to get in close to the man and help him get his powers back under control. Inch by inch, Alex started to walk towards the man as he freaked out, but the closer he got, the harder the balls hit the shield, and they were getting harder and harder to deflect. This was not going to be easy at all...
As Alex watched the gangsters tuck tail and run while cursing him and saying they'll be back with more people, he just shook his head and let the green glow in his eyes fade to reveal his flawless cyan eyes. Since his foot was still on the switch for the electrical lantern, he didn't have a problem with finding the lantern in the dark and turned it back on before he turned around to face the person he had just saved, and was surprised to see that behind the ski mask was a woman's face with blond hair. As she checked her nose to see if it was broken, Alex walked over to her and offered her a hand to help her get up.
When the woman thanked him for saving her from being beaten to a pulp, Alex shrugged slightly and smiled warmly. "Don't mention it. As for why I'm out here, well, I was looking for a place to set up my small business and I didn't want to have to deal with any crowds." Alex stated, then turned to look in the direction that the gangsters had fled, remembering that they said that they would be back with more people which caused his warm smile to fade. If they did come back with more people, then he would be forced to use his mutation to its fullest, and that would surely get people killed.
His thoughts were brought back to the woman as she said that she owed him and introduced herself as Chelsey, and asked what his name was. At first Alex was about to answer her by giving her his real name out of reflex, but then decided that giving her his nickname instead since he wasn't sure whom she was. "I'm Rook. Mind if I ask you what you were doing out here in the dark picking a fight with a gang on your own? It's dangerous." Alex stated with a hint of concern in his voice.
As Alex followed the producer towards the set that they were going to be filming the action scene at, the lead actress walked up next to him and gave him a gentle nudge with her elbow, and the malachite manipulator was surprised to find that her skin felt like rock and was quite hot to the touch. "Hey. Nice save there with that brick. You're power is amazing." she said with a smile through her gray lips. Alex shrugged at first, then nodded. "I guess my gift is amazing, but its not without a price. I have to be honest that I'm worried about this movie now. If this place wasn't a powder keg before hand, it surely is now." Alex responded, then the lead actress only rolled her eyes. "Oh please. Look at how many mutants there are here? We can handle ourselves against a couple of protestors that lose their tempers. You proved that. Besides, the police are here to make sure that nothing like that happens again." she replied, and Alex found himself wishing that she would take the whole situation a little bit more serious.
While she was next to him though, he decided to ask a question that needed answering. "I'm wondering... is there a reason why your lines require you to call that guy Hitler? That could cause quite an uproar." Alex stated, and the lead actress shrugged. "Well, in reality I was told to ab-lib that line, and I thought it fit. I mean, think about it? Mutants are being persecuted, blamed for stuff that they aren't guilty of, attacked, and even murdered for simply being born differently. Hitler wanted to exterminate the Jews for being different, and the whole world was horrified by it when they found out, and yet people aren't worried about mutants. Africans were enslaved simply because they had different skin color. At the end of the civil war they were freed and later on were given equal rights. The whole planet rejoiced... but they don't want mutants to have equal rights. If they aren't told how bad this is, they will never know. Only until they realize just how wrong they are will they finally listen to us and stop treating us like dirt." the lead actress explained. Alex nodded, understanding her point of view... but he still disagreed with it. "Maybe so, but if you try to force your point of view onto someone to quickly, people will view you as a tyrant and fight back. This has to be done slowly and gently." Alex stated. The lead actress only sighed and shook her head. "Tell that to the mutants whom have been killed by humans whom think we're a disease. You'll wise up some day. Later cutie pie." the lead actress stated, then burst out laughing as Alex blushed from being called a cutie pie. Elder and his granddaughter, whom had been following Alex, also laughed when they saw this. "Young man, you might want to take care of that blushing problem of yours." Elder stated with a smile as his granddaughter pushed him in his wheelchair.
Feeling his face becoming hot, Alex looked away from the lead actress and looked in the direction that he was walking and saw the filming set. From where he was standing, it looked like the filming set was actually a large skateboard park, and there were several small cranes around the skate park that had rigging hanging from them. Clearly there were going to be some stuntmen flying around the place on wires. From where he was standing though, Alex was having trouble seeing where he could find a place to stand and watch the action scene. With a shrug, Alex glanced back at the other extras that were following him. "Anyone see a good place for us to stand and watch? I don't see any on this side."
"That's another one off the list." Alex said to himself with a groan as he looked down at the map that was in his hands and used a pen to scratch off an 'x' over a possible location for a pottery shop. Alex was standing in front of an old building that was near a smaller set of privately owned docks that were just off of one of New York City's many harbors. Alex had been hoping to find a building near a location where he would get fresh clay everyday at a low cost while being in a location where he would get several customers a day. The building he was looking at was in good condition, was just one block away from a company that he could buy clay from so Alex could carry the clay to his shop by hand or shopping cart, and there were always plenty of new people arriving in New York City by boat, so having a store that could sell hand made souvenirs at that location would be very profitable.
Except, there was one small problem... someone else bought the building and was planning on turning it into a fast food restaurant. There was no way Alex was going to be getting the building away from the man, mainly because there wasn't a restaurant for 15 blocks and the constant inflow of new arrivals would most likely be hungry after their long trip. People would want a nice hot meal more then they would a clay pot or hand made clay sculpture. With a defeated sigh, Alex turned his back on the building and started to walk away from it, heading back the way he came... which was a small pedestrian bridge that went over part of the dock.
Alex stopped just in front of the bridge and glanced down at the water that was below, and gulped as he lifted his right hand to his face and covered his right ear. This was a very uncomfortable position he was in at the moment. He had to cross a bridge that crossed a large body of water in order to head back to his motel, and he had a fear of water. Thanks to the fact that his right eardrum wasn't whole, water could get inside his inner ear, and it always hurt like anything as a result. It was impossible for Alex to swim because of this, so he was always afraid of large bodies of water. Sure, the bridge was perfectly safe and there were high handrails to keep people from falling, but he was still scared none the less.
Knowing that the other way around was at least ten miles long, Alex took a deep breath, tried to calm himself, and slowly started to cross the bridge.
When Ashton responded to Alex's question by saying it was one of the topics that he had mentioned, Alex wasn't surprised in the least. He had actually expected that to be the response to be honest. So, when Ashton asked if he had been mugging the woman, Alex shook his head. "No sir, I wasn't mugging her. Another person had been, and without thinking I had rushed in to stop it. I managed to get the purse away from the real thief... but I didn't get a hold of him before he jumped into a car and tried to run me over..." Alex stated, then pointed at his bandaged side and arm. "This injury was a result of me using my mutation to get out of the way. Getting dragged across concrete is rather painful. Take my advice and don't try it..." Alex stated with a slight shrug.
At the mention of the large knife, Alex slowly nodded and sighed. "That is no ordinary knife, I'm sure you can tell that since it was carved out of a solid piece of gemstone called malachite. The name of that dagger is Defiance, and it's a family heirloom that my family put me in charge of watching over. Now, I don't have a permanent home here in New York City... only a small motel room, and I wasn't going to leave it there, so the only safe place for it is in my position. It's one of the most important heirlooms that my family has, so I really need it back. If you want, I can give you proof that it does in fact belong to my family and me." Alex stated.
Okay, then saving Rook from drowning it is then. Now, I can think of several ways that Rook could end up taking a dip, such as he was walking across a bridge that crossed a lake and someone gave him a push just to be mean or funny, or he twisted his ankle while walking across a dock and fell in that way, or another mutant lost control of their powers and shoved Rook in by mistake... or another idea I can't think of at the moment. Rook wouldn't jump into the water willingly since he knows he can't swim.
Alex nodded when the silvery man said that he could understand why Alex would want to hide his powers at first, though it was now clear what Alex's powers were. With that fact known, Alex let out a heavy sigh and slowly removed the voice filter and turned it off. "Well, since I had to use my gift in broad daylight, in front of a large crowd, and while on camera... I think it's save to say that the world is going to see that. No point in hiding anymore, is there? Same thing goes for that bad nickname. What was I thinking when I said Mala Knight? People, just call me Rook." Alex stated, his voice no longer hindered by the voice filter. He turned to face the director and offered the voice filter back to the man, but the r\producer just shook his head. "You don't need to give it back. It's your for keeps... Rook." the producer stated.
After saying that, the producer turned to face Streak and shook his head again. "And sadly we weren't done with this scene. Our lead actors were supposed to leave the set out the front door while talking some more. We're going to need to start over." the director stated. The lead actress laughed in response though. "I don't think that's possible at the moment. Some buddy here is a little bit shocked from that display of yours Rook." the lead actress stated as she pointed at the lead actor...who's cheeks were flushed red and had a large wet stain on the front of his pants. Seeing the brick nearly hit the producer had scared the lead actor half to death. Seeing this, the producer shook his head and flicked his thumb towards the makeup trailer.
As the lead actor walked away with very little dignity left, the producer turned to face the extras. "Well, since I know it will take him a little while to change and get cleaned up, we're going to put this scene on hold and we're going to move over to an action scene that he's not involved in. Any extra that wants to share a part in this is free to join in. Otherwise, you are free to walk around or watch." the producer stated, and then left, heading in the direction of what looked like a concrete slab with some skateboarding ramps on it. With a shrug, Alex tucked the voice filter into his back pocket and followed him. "Might as well watch..."
During all of this, the old mutant that wanted everyone to call him Elder had his eyes locked on Alex with a puzzled look on his face, as if he was considering something. His granddaughter seemed to notice and slowly nodded before she assisted her grandfather into his wheelchair.
At the moment, Rook is staying in a motel until he finds a more permanent home and a job, which will happen in a solo thread I will be doing later on. I don't plan on having Alex move into the X-mansion until he becomes an X-Man himself, and that's not going to be for a while.
So you want something in which Sky can save Rook from something, eh? Well, it's impossible for Rook to learn how to swim thanks to an inner ear problem, so Sky could fish him out of some water with her powers. Now, if you mean Sky saves Rook from a fight, that one will be a little more tricky, mainly because Rook is more then capable of handling himself in a fight since his mutation lets him make any weapon of choice; and he's good at using his fists in combat. For this all I can think of is having Alex lose his malachite, which is needed for his mutation, and he's up against either another mutant or a group of anti-mutants protesters that are all armed with close range weapons.
Hm... maybe, but at the moment I don't have any ideas of what to role play out. That, and I'm not really up to date on the chibi thread, so no matter what Alex is gonna be an adult, just to warn you.
I'm sure I can think up an idea though. Do you have any though?
When the three gangsters had turned around, clearly they had been expecting someone else, like another gangster from a rival gang or something else. Apparently the gloating that Alex had done a moment ago to get there attention had worked like a charm. When they saw him though, they almost seemed disappointed, and referred to him as a wanna be hero, to which Alex only responded to by shaking his head and letting out a sigh. "Me? A hero? Nope. Just a bystander that knows he can make a difference." Alex stated calmly just before one of the gangsters fell to the ground, and Alex realized that the person with the mask had used the distraction Alex had caused to swing his bat.
However the other two gangsters didn't even seem to notice and charged at Alex, one clearly trying to circle around Alex while the other, whom seemed to have brass knuckles on his fists, charged at Alex head on. Seeing this, Alex just rolled his eyes. They were just typical gangsters that were inexperienced. Still though, they posed a threat and Alex didn't let his guard down, and did something neither gangster would've expected... he just stood there and let the gangsters approach him. As that gangster tried to throw a left hook at Alex, the malachite manipulator simply side-stepped the attack and grabbed the extended arm by the wrist with his right hand. In the same motion, Alex turned to the right and slammed his left hip into the brass knuckle gangster's waist while bending over and yanking hard on the gangster's wrist. The result was the brass knuckle gangster getting flipped over Alex's back and being slammed into his buddy, whom was only half way around Alex at this moment.
Both gangsters crashed to the ground, and Alex then turned off the electric lantern with his foot, turning the whole street dark. A moment later a freaky bright green light shown from Alex's eyes as he glared at the two gangsters that were still on the ground. "Boys, you have let your pride get the better of you and have thrown yourselves into a battle that you have no hope in winning. I'm going to give you one more chance to get out of here alive. Do yourselves a favor and head home." Alex stated sternly. Getting thrown around like a rag doll was more then humiliating for any gangster that Alex had met thus far, but he had already found out that the gangsters of Kansas were wimps compared to those of New York City, so he knew these guys weren't going down without a fight... unless they were so scared that they didn't want to continue.
