The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Really nothing about Tarin, what he'd ever said or done, would have even hinted at the idea that he'd skate. But she couldn't just give up, so she gave a shrug. "Well, running in the winter can suck," Lee stated. Something she was sure that Tarin knew quite well. "If it's going to be slippery, wouldn't it be more sensible to expect it by being on ice and skating rather than running on a path and hit an icy patch?"
Lee wasn't sure if Tarin would believe that logic, but it made sense.
And here Tarin was trying to convince her that they could to the hot chocolate and blanket snuggling without going outside first. "You're not going to freeze half to death," she repeated, rolling her eyes though there was a hint of a smile curling the corners of her lips. "And we could do that without going outside, but it's just not the same."
Tarin seemed to think that she was going to be really good at skating. Lee shook her head. "I'm okay at skating," she told him. "But Doug was easily able to outskate me by the time he was 6."
That grin…Lee couldn't help but think back to the night that they'd cooked. And then fallen through her bedroom door. That grin and those thoughts were not very conducive for behaving. Even with the puzzle.
"Who said I forgot?" Lee asked, that same puzzle almost forgotten at the moment. "Maybe I'm just ensuring that you continue to."

Lee shook her head slightly with a smile. "You've lived here how long and you've never tried skating?" Lee asked. Though with how much Tarin complained about the cold in the winter, it wasn't that surprising. And having lived in the shop the last 6 years, he probably didn't venture outside much at all when it was cold.
"Remember, Tarin, you're not going to freeze this winter," Lee went on to remind him of their little bet with a wink. "Plus, going out and doing something like skating means coming home to hot chocolate and snuggling under blankets."
Turning back to the puzzle, Lee managed to fit another piece in before saying, almost as an afterthought "and maybe I like seeing you fall for me," her tone playful.

Though he didn't say anything, the look on his face as Lee agreed to the midway food and brought up the ferris wheel told her that he was happy about it. The games, though. Yeah…Lee had trouble seeing them as anything more than frustrating and a waste of time.
Then they lapsed into silence for a short while as they worked on the puzzle. And while this had started as a way to help make sure that they behaved themselves in common areas of the apartment, especially since Kevin was still awake, Lee couldn't help but think that it really was nice to sit there and do something with Tarin. Because other than the very occasional guitar lesson, all that they really seemed to do at home was watch TV or talk.
Not that Lee thought those were bad, there were days where Lee looked forward to when Tarin got home and they could just sit and watch a movie or baseball together. But it would be nice to have other options, ways to have some variety if they wanted.
She was going to have to look into getting some more puzzles.
When Tarin suggested they could go to a ball game as well, Lee looked up at him in surprise initially. She'd never liked going to ball games.
But, Lee reminded herself, that had also been before she had started to like watching baseball. "You know, that might actually be fun," Lee said with a smile. "Maybe we could go skating in the park this winter, too."

Lee laughed and shook her head when Tarin described some of the things that Rachel had tried to get him to wear. And while Lee was sure that everything Rachel had picked was "fashionable" (who in the world decided that, anyway?), with everything that Lee knew about Tarin, it would have all been far too much.
Lee couldn't help but wonder if Rachel had finally listened for the same reason she did with Lee: threatening to leave. With how insistent and pushy the woman was, it was quite probable. "I'm glad she did," Lee said, glancing over at Tarin before turning back to the puzzle. "Because you looked amazing."
It made sense that Tarin hadn't been to anything of the like in years either if he'd never gone to Coney Island. It's not like there were a lot of places in the city like that. "Oh, definitely midway food," Lee said.
"But the carnival games are all rigged, aren't they? So that'd just be frustrating and a waste of money. We will have to go on the ferris wheel, though. Can you imagine what the city would look like from the top of that thing?"

Going shopping with Rachel had been worth it to see her face when she'd first seen him in that suit. Lee smiled happily at the memory. Tarin had looked damn good in it. It was a good thing that they had already agreed to go to that restaurant more, for both brunch and dinner, because Tarin wearing that could not be a one off thing.
"I can only imagine some of the things she wanted you to try," Lee said with laughter in her voice. "One of the reasons I've stopped going shopping with her. They were that ridiculous, were they?"
When Tarin sait that anyone looking would have been because of the dress not because of her dancing, it was Lee's turn to blush and she focused on the puzzle for a few moments. "I'm not so sure about that," Lee whispered. "That reasoning, it would have been just as much you they were looking at as me."
And yet, despite Tarin's surprise that she had never been to Coney Island, he hadn't been there either. Despite having lived in New York longer than she had. Though, he did have a bit of a point about him going alone.
"I haven't been on any actual rides since I was probably 13 or 14," Lee replied with a shrug. "Just some of the children's amusement rides in Toronto when Kevin was little. So I guess we will see, won't we?"

Lee smiled as Tarin said she would need to bring her guitar when they had another picnic. She had been playing her guitar more often, though probably not as often as she should have been. And probably not as often as Tarin would have liked her to;she did love the way he looked at her when she played. She really would have to try to remember to play more often she reminded herself.
Again.
"I'm sure I can manage that," Lee told Tarin. "If you can come up with a couple songs for me to play."
A comedy, or an action/adventure. Or something scary? Lee smiled and nodded. "That sounds like a great plan," Lee agreed as she looked for more puzzle pieces to expand her corner. "I'm sure we'll be able to find something good. Though, depending on how many we find, we may need to go out a few times."
And Tarin was telling her that they didn't have to dance the next time they went to that restaurant. If there was even dancing at brunch. While also hoping that the dress code would be more relaxed.
Lee couldn't help but laugh. "I'm still a little amazed that you did that for me," Lee said. And the fact that he had done that when he knew how overwhelming Rachel could be. "I won't even go shopping with her anymore."
"And the dancing really wasn't that bad," Lee informed Tarin. "Well, I was too self-conscious to think that the first song was anything but embarrassing, but after that was fine. I was just very much off balance because I wasn't siphoning."
They needed to go to Coney Island when it cooled down? "Am I missing that much?"

The puzzle pieces were all spread out and right side up now, so Lee grabbed a corner piece and started looking for the connecting pieces.
"We really should," Lee said as she tried a few pieces that didn't fit. "That was a great day even before Kevin's powers appeared."
It really had been, despite the moody teenager who had tried to pretend he wanted to be anywhere else but there with his mum for a picnic. Even the baseball gloves, which Lee had been very hesitant about when Tarin had first pulled them out, had been good.
"Well, you just can't get popcorn that tastes like that elsewhere," Lee said, returning Tarin's smile.
As long as the movie wasn't depressing. Lee nodded. So nothing based on a true story, those always had something depressing in them. Otherwise, where would the driving force of the story come from? And without that story, they wouldn't have bothered to make it a movie.
That also meant a lot of dramas would be out. "A comedy it is," she replied with a nod. "I'm sure we'll be able to find something worth watching."
Lee finally found a piece to match with her corner, then looked up at Tarin again as he suggested a couple other things to do. "Oh, that brunch is a definite," Lee informed Tarin. "Even if we don't do anything else on this list, we're going back there for brunch."
"But yes, I'd like to go to the Met Cloisters," Lee continued. "See what they're like here and you can tell me about how it was different what made it your favourite place over there. And Coney Island might be fun. I've never been there, either."

"Well, I guess that means we can suck at doing the puzzle together then," Lee said, shooting Tarin a smile before turning back to the puzzle pieces.
Not that these puzzles she had in the apartment were all that difficult. They were geared toward children. But there was nothing wrong with setting expectations low for something as unimportant as doing this puzzle.
As Tarin sat and started to help her flip the pieces right side up, he spoke again. Lee's hands paused over the puzzle pieces as she looked up at Tarin with a small smile. "It really is, isn't it?" Lee asked, though she knew the answer. "Maybe we should do puzzles more often, then?"
Giving Tarin a slightly larger smile, Lee then dropped her eyes back to the table as her hands started working on the puzzle pieces again.
But what else did they need to add to their list? Were they actually going to create a list of 'normal activities we can do'? "The picnic was nice," Lee replied after a few moments of thought. "We should try to do that again before the weather turns. And movie dates are very normal."

Lee was looking through the box, sorting through the puzzles in there. Tarin didn't have a preference. She really didn't care either. Why would she? This was to serve a purpose in helping them to 'behave' rather than actually wanting to do a puzzle.
So Lee grabbed one of the puzzles out of the box at random and set it on the table before moving the rest of the puzzles out of the way. That done, Lee sat down and looked up at Tarin.
"Other than doing these with Kevin, I can't really remember ever doing a puzzle," Lee admitted as she opened the box and dumped the pieces out. "I'm sure I must have when I was younger, but I don't remember doing them."
Turning her attention down to the table, Lee started spreading the pieces out and flipping them over to see the picture.
Though, if Lee really thought about it, she had done puzzles as an adult: piecing back together shredded papers. They just weren't meant to be puzzles. And you had no idea what they were going to show you until you finished.

Well, there had been a few ideas that Tarin hadn't liked. Like her going with him back to the shop the day after the merge. And her insistence that night, after the Empire State Building, that he stay at the apartment. Or, when he refused, her plan to walk to the shop with him, and then walk home, alone, at night in New York.
But Tarin had been going through the aftermath of the merge. Plus, they didn't really know each other at that point.
Since then…Lee had trouble coming up with anything. Well, nothing other than his dislike of the sparring match with Michael, but that had more to do with how sore and bruised she was after than with the sparring itself.
"That's a fair point," Lee conceded. But it had taken a while for him to realize that any idea she gave was probably a good idea before doing it.
Setting the box down, Lee looked up at Tarin. "There's a couple of some kids cartoons, but those are smaller puzzles," Lee told him. "A bunch of superheroes, and a few Space Battles puzzles."

After taking the deep breath to center herself, relax, whatever it was she needed to do so she didn't just turn around and start kissing Tarin again, Lee started walking toward the hall closet.
As Tarin laughed behind her. "And how many times did I need to tell you that before you believed it?" Lee asked teasingly over her shoulder as she opened the closet.
Leaning over and into the closet, Lee started looking through and shifting boxes as she looked for where the puzzles had been stored away. They couldn't be too buried, Lee was sure. She hadn't packed them away away in case Kevin had randomly decided he wanted to do them again. Though she had done that a couple of years earlier.
"Do you have a preference for which one?" Lee called over to Tarin. "Or should I surprise you?"
Just then, Lee opened the box that the puzzles had been packed into. Waiting for Tarin's response, she grabbed the puzzle box and made her way over to the table.

Tarin sat and thought for a moment or two after she had asked her question. And asked a question of his own.
His question didn't really need an answer. But it, and the grin spreading across Tarin's face, made Lee smile back at him.
It could be inconvenient? Well, yeah. Forgetting where they were and making out in a crowded, public place, or in the living room when your teenaged son walks in, were definitely inconvenient situations.
And frustrating. It sure was frustrating considering just about all Lee wanted to do at that moment was to lean in and kiss those smiling lips again.
Lee's smile widened more when Tarin told her that what was trying to happen between them that evening would never be bad.
Lee thought she had stopped herself a few moments earlier from leaning in for a kiss despite how much she wanted to. But, when she suddenly realized that Tarin's eyes looked much closer…
Standing up suddenly, Lee took a deep breath. "I'll go find one of those puzzles," she said.

Tarin offered to go sit in the desk chair again. Or at the table. And, while that would make it a lot easier for the two of them to keep their hands (and lips) to themselves, it sounded excessive.
They shouldn't need to put that much space between them simply to stop themselves from doing something Kevin would call gross in the middle of the living room.
A couple of hours…that was still quite a while before they could reasonably 'go to bed'. Still quite a while that they had to behave themselves while they were in the living room.
Lee laughed when Tarin commented about actually doing one of the puzzles. "That might be a smart idea, actually," Lee said with a slight shake of her head. It seemed rather excessive that they needed to resort to something like that, or one of them sitting somewhere else. But at the same time, Lee wasn't sure they would be able to keep things appropriate for if Kevin emerged from his room otherwise.
"Is it bad that we need to do that?" she asked Tarin.

Once she had removed her hand from Tarin's hair, he leaned back with a sigh of his own.
Yeah. It was a very good idea to stop all of that before they went too far while sitting in the living room.
It took Lee slightly longer than Tarin to get comfortable sitting on the couch facing the TV again, but it appeared that they had missed the entire rest of the episode that had been on.
"I don't know, Tarin," Lee said, giving just a quick glance over at him before turning back to the screen. "I think it was quite a good benefit for both of us. Just at the wrong time and place."
That didn't answer Tarin's question about whether they should continue watching this show or not. Lee watched the TV for another couple of moments. It certainly hadn't been riveting enough to keep their attention on it rather than each other. But Tarin was right, it was good.
"Lets try another episode," she ended up saying. Then smiled over at Tarin. "But if we still can't behave, then maybe we should find something else."

As she was trying to pull back from the kiss, Tarin was following her. Continuing the kiss.
It was very tempting to just dive back in, let Tarin continue the kiss. But Kevin was home. Kevin was awake. Kevin could walk out of his room and see them at any moment.
Even though she had been the one to say that they needed to slow down, to remind them that they were in a common area and that they couldn't get completely lost, there was a part of Lee that was a little disappointed when Tarin stopped following her and the kiss broke.
Lee sighed, her eyes closing as Tarin leaned his forehead against hers. Then he said she'd have to move her hand if they were actually going to slow down.
Immediately, Lee started moving the hand that she had wrapped around behind him. But as Tarin was moving to lean against the couch, Lee realized that she still had a hand behind his head. In his hair.
"Oh. Right," Lee said, letting go and dropping her hand to her lap as a soft blush covered her face again. "That might help, wouldn't it?"
