The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As she turned, Lee felt Tarin's arm wrap behind her back, pulling her closer. Good. Closer was very good.
At the moment, Lee had completely forgotten about the earlier, difficult conversations. It was a little hard to think about those things when Tarin's arm was around her, his hand on her back. His lips on hers as he held her close.
Wrapping her free arm around Tarin, Lee's hand on his neck slowly lifted, her fingers slipping into his hair.
But they were in the living room. Kevin was home. And if they were to continue like this…well, Lee knew that they would forget where they were, and this was not the time or place for that.
Slowly, reluctantly, Lee began pulling back, breaking the kiss. But once again, she didn't move far; her lips were still almost touching Tarin's, her fingers still in his hair. "We should probably slow down…" she whispered.

Tarin didn't say anything about her patience levels. But it definitely looked like he had some thoughts about it.
Still, that wasn't very important as they sat there looking at each other, lips practically touching.
Tarin agreed that staying lost was an excellent idea, and Lee grinned as she felt his lips pressing against hers again. If this was how they were going to be lost, it was an excellent idea.
Turning slightly on the couch, not breaking the kiss, Lee leaned into Tarin. Most definitely a good idea. There had not been nearly enough of this over the course of the day.
Lee lifted a hand, it coming to rest on the back of Tarin's neck as she slowly deepened the kiss.
This was far more interesting than a puzzle. Far more enjoyable than a show.
And definitely distracting from previous topics of conversation.

The other end of the phone was quiet. It was quiet for what felt like ages. Had Shin just hung up when he heard her? It was possible. Tarin had probably told Shin that she had no idea what he was doing at the mansion yesterday, that she had had no idea what he was trying to do.
Lee was about to pull the phone away from her ear to check if the call was still connected when she finally heard Shin speak.
"-but he said thank you.”
Lee blinked in shock.
"He said thank you?" Lee asked incredulously. "And if he was saying 'thank you', would you throw him off the Brooklyn Bridge?"
Without realizing it, Lee started pacing the length of the living room behind the couch as she spoke. "Could you NOT see that he was a total wreak and just about having a breakdown in there?!?" Lee continued, her voice raising slightly as she went on. "The additional trauma you were heaping onto him? Nevermind how potentially dangerous the entire thing was!"
"God Shin! Did you even think about what would have happened if a merge had happened?! And not only that, but you put him through all of that multiple times!"

Tarin had learned a lot of 'lessons', of varying kinds, since the spring. Not that he had had to learn any (other than the initial one of her not leaving him to deal with the aftermath of the merge on his own), not that she would have made him learn any.
But there were at least a couple, such as believing when she said she'd like something regardless of what he thought, that were important. That if he hadn't learned them it would have meant that in one way or another he wouldn't be the man she had fallen in love with.
Tarin actually thought that she would have those kind of impossible puzzles? "I think you greatly overestimate my patience," she told him.
Though, she could focus on things for hours upon hours if they interested her. Or if they were important and she was determined.
Or if she was worrying.
The kinds of puzzles Tarin was referring to didn't fall into any of those categories. Lee doubted that she would manage to get one of those even a quarter finished before she got frustrated and gave up on it.
After Tarin asked about what they were making on the show now, Tarin said he didn't know. And as Lee focused on the screen, she couldn't figure it out either.
Then Tarin was leaning closer again. Smiling, Lee met him partway, happily returning the kiss, letting her lips linger on his. "Are you saying we should stay lost?" she whispered.

Who was he to argue? Lee shrugged and gave Tarin another kiss. "I'd say a smart man, knowing not to argue," Lee replied with a smile.
But Tarin didn't even know they had puzzles? Well, he must not have dug too deeply into any of the closets, Lee realized. "Of course we have puzzles. A child lives here." Lee paused a moment in thought, her eyes glancing toward the hallway to the bedroom, and the closets in that hallway.
"I know we have a few Paw Patrol puzzles. Definitely a Superman, and I think one of Batman. But if you were hoping for zoo or farm animals, I'm going to have to disappoint you. Those didn't make the move down from Toronto."
Despite that, Tarin seemed to very much appreciate the fact that she hadn't actually been talking about puzzles. At least that was Lee's guess based on the grin he had on his face when he said 'later'.
Either that or he really liked puzzles a lot more than she would have ever expected.
As Tarin leaned back against the couch again and spoke, Lee frowned in confusion and turned her attention back to the TV as well. "I have no idea," she admitted. "But also, what in the world are they making now?"

Ashton didn't seem overly happy about her slightly joking comment about the XMen not really planning things out before rushing into situations. Not too pleased, but either not upset enough or unaware enough of how the team actually worked before missions to argue the point.
Or it was true, but he didn't like an 'outsider' pointing that fact out.
Not that it mattered much in the grand scheme of things. The XMen had their place, and Lee had her opinion of how they filled that space. Those who needed to know her opinion on the XMen knew what it was and why she felt that way.
That was the part that was important.
Ashton, apparently, was going to be heading to the danger room. Heading there then and now. And was inviting her to come check it out now that the mansion had been rebuilt.
Except he thought she was busy.
Lee quickly pulled her phone out to check the time then shook her head. "Actually no. I was going to head home because apparently it's 'not cool' for me to visit my son when he's trying to hang out with his new friends. Otherwise no plans for at least a couple of hours."
Turning back toward the door, Lee started walking. "They didn't change the floorplan down there, did they?" she asked over her shoulder, not bothering to look to see if Ashton was following her. She didn't need her eyes to tell that.

Lee smiled as she returned Tarin's kiss. "And who said that would be a bad thing?" Lee asked in return.
It was true, they had had some interesting conversations over the previous months, and not all of them had been resulting from negative personal experiences.
"As long as you let me get a few words in every so often, I don't think I'd have a problem with that," Lee added teasingly after a couple of moments.
But Tarin made a comment about 'while he was dumb', and Lee was about to dispute that when he continued.
And Lee couldn't help but laugh softly. "I mean, if you really do want to do a puzzle, we can," she replied as she shook her head, then gave him another kiss. "But no, I wasn't."

Tarin had continued to think about things and then spoke without telling her what he had been thinking. That…
Lee had done that so many times herself, normally when she had been awake at night and then continued a conversation or topic the next morning miles from where it had been left the previous night.
"Don't worry about it," Lee said. "If I didn't have everything else running through myhead, I may have kept up."
Though, apparently Tarin didn't like the fact that she didn't think her cooking was brave based on the sigh. Yet he didn't try to argue it further, so Lee let it stay there. Because cooking in your own apartment wasn't brave, no matter how horrible you were at it.
"I’m going to stop talking now.”
Lee turned a bit more and leaned up to kiss Tarin softly. "You don't have to stop," she said after pulling back just enough to be able to speak. "You're kinda cute when you ramble." Especially after how hard it was to get him to talk to begin with.

Oh good, Tarin wasn't trying to call her brave for cooking. That was good. No matter how much she might be giving in to him trying to get her to admit how incredible she was, Lee wasn't going to agree with that.
"Oh, well I know you do that. Frequently," Lee replied. "I just wasn't expecting such a sudden topic change."
Yet, that is what Tarin went on to do a couple minutes later: tell her that she was actually a little brave for being willing to cook.
Lee shook her head slightly. "It's still not brave," she said before he reminded her that they didn't have to cook.
Of course they didn't have to. Tarin had left it up to her what they would make next, and in the entire time since they had made the alfredo, he hadn't pushed her or really questioned her about it at all.
"I know," Lee replied quietly. "And I'll probably be just as anxious as last time. But it really wasn't all that bad."

At first, Tarin just shrugged when she questioned him calling her brave. But he did then continue, explaining why he thought that she was brave.
And that did make sense, but also it didn't. Not in this context.
"There are definitely things that are worth taking the risk for," Lee agreed, still a little confused about what Tarin was talking about. There had been a number of things in her life that Lee had very consciously decided that the risk was worth the possible reward.
"But there's nothing brave about cooking, Tarin," Lee continued, a slight crease having formed between her brows. Even though she was anxious about cooking, that didn't make it a brave thing for her to do.
"Unless I've completely missed a change of subject?"

Lee hadn't spoken, she had simply shaken her head a bit. Yet, Tarin answered as though she had spoken her thoughts out loud.
Turning to look up at him, Lee saw Tarin smiling down at her. "I suppose we could just do that," Lee said after a moment, giving Tarin a small smile in return. "This show is better than I was expecting it to be."
Lee was just starting to turn back to the TV when she heard Tarin speak again, and she turned a slightly confused look on him.
"Brave?" she questioned. Lee knew that she had done many things over the years where she'd needed to be brave. Or done things even though she was terrified. But Lee couldn't think of anything that she had done recently that could be considered brave, unless Tarin was referring to her actually answering Kevin's questions earlier.

"Well…I think they cook for fun"
Logically, that did make sense to Lee. Tons of people enjoyed things that she didn't find enjoyable. But her apprehension about being in the kitchen and actually making something made it hard for her to properly process that some people found that fun.
Lee just shook her head. Even though she had suggested that they try it again not that long ago, Lee didn't think she would ever think of cooking as being 'fun'. Maybe they could get to the point where it wouldn't be potentially anxiety attack inducing, but never fun.
And at least if they did mess up, only 3 people would know about it. Not the entire world.
As Tarin continued speaking, at least that made sense to Lee. She had had times in her life where she had risked things going wrong because it could have gone really right.

Tarin gave a few ideas of how these people knew which spices (and how many) to put in their pies. Some of it made sense, like having read it in recipes. But he also suggested that maybe they had just randomly tried different spice combinations.
"How can they just do that?" Lee asked, puzzled. "Try something completely random knowing it could be a complete disaster?" She really couldn't understand how that wouldn't be completely nerve-wracking.
And yet, as Tarin said a short time later, they really didn't seem very stressed.
"I would hate to be there and make even a small mistake," Lee said after another couple minutes. "Even something small could get you sent home."

There really wasn't anyone in this show, at least that she'd seen so far, that she didn't like. It didn't look like anyone had been put on the show simply to cause drama. And even the judges seemed to be friendly and helpful to the contestants.
"I didn't know that meat pies could be made so many different ways," Lee replied, glancing up at Tarin before turning back to the TV. "And I had never really thought about it, but I wouldn't have expect them to have so many spices."
Though as she sat there watching, it did kind of make sense; some of the pies were otherwise simply meat and crust. Even the ones that had added vegetables to their pies, they would likely be rather bland without spices.
"How do they know what spices go together?" Lee mused, more to herself than anything.

Lee really wasn't talking about puzzles. But similarly to the afternoon at the shop the day they had watched that diving documentary, Lee was prepared to go the whole way with this game, actually pulling out a puzzle later that night if needed.
That was not her first choice of activities for the night, though.
And it seemed that Tarin agreed that they could figure that out later that night. With a grin that Lee returned.
As the show started, Lee turned toward the TV as she leaned her head against Tarin's shoulder again. And as they watched, Lee realized that Rachel was right; this wasn't like the competition shows Lee had seen in the past where it was more about the drama between the contestants than the actual competition.
At times it was almost wholesome.
Lee hadn't really been planning on watching what was on TV, this was positive and cozy enough without requiring too much focus unless she really tried to pay attention to what they were making that she found herself actually watching.
"Maybe Rachel was right about this," Lee said after a few minutes.
