The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

So many birds. So, so many birds. The flow of feathers and flaps, and caws and sensation of being pulled at from all directions would come to a stop in a strangely gentle landing. Wings tails and beaks and claws would retreat into a writhing and fluttering dome. The floor was gravel, and vents, and grates. Off to the left there was a roof access hatch, sealed currently. Before her, a throne of crows. And in it. A crow.
"CAW! Kneel before the king of the murder! Kneel before Melchior!"
The chorus would ring out from all directions, aimed at the beautiful, shiny girl. The crow, which looked like any other crow, would stare at her intently from atop its flapping throne and open its mouth to speak...
"Sup."
* * *
"No, that would be needlessly mean!" Xavier was shoved from the flying car, and Shin didn't have to imagine a thing as he yelled out,"WHEEEEEE!" as he shot out into the air, and struck a classic flying hero pose. And then he was shoved through the massive flock on the roof, using his repulsion field to knock any crows out of the way as gently as possible.
"Ohh, sorry! Pardon! Passing through!" He broke through the crowd a bit, looking about for the quick moment he was given before he passed through the eye of the storm. Just like that, he was with Shin again.
"Shin Sensei! There's so many of them up there! I saw something strange... A huge pile of them! I think, at least! Or... A dome?"
Just then, the flock began to speak around them.
"DESTROY THE INTERLOPERS! MELCHIOR DEMANDS IT!"
"U- Uhhh... Sensei!" The birds began to close in to attack from all sides, and Xavier braced for impacts. [/i]
The voice over the intercom caused Xavier to look down, and turn bright red as he covered his shame. "Sorry, Shin Sensei! I keep trying, but gosh, I dunno. It seems like as soon as I put out that much force it just... takes the clothes with it." He frowned a bit as he tried to find a scrap of cloth to cover himself with on the ground.
He perked up, however, when he heard Shin speak up again. A MISSION! He nodded quickly and picked his way around a bunch of bobbing clowns in order to get on a fresh OneInaMillion suit.
Moments later he was sprinting into the garage, and skidding to a stop, sparkles in his eyes as he spotted the Delorean. "OHHH WOW! Like in Future Quest part 2 where they make it fly?! This is the coolest thing ever, Shin Sensei!"
He was wrong.
The Jetpack he gave to him next was. Best. Day. Ever.
As the door opened, and Xavier stepped up, his beady little eyes looked around, and he turned back to Shin. "It's like the news reports said... There's so many of them!"
True to his description, the whole section of the city was crowded with crows, most flying about in a Murder storm abovehead. Even over the rush of wind he could hear the chorus of caws. He spied about quickly. "They don't seem to be bothering anything just yet! Looks like there are a few places they might be gathering!" He yelled back to Shin as he tried to make sense of it all. "That park over there... That rooftop over there... Maybe a few other places!"
-Ten Minutes Earlier-
The flutter of wings would be a low drumming at first, but within the park it would quicky be difficult to make out anything other than yelled speech, fluttering wings, and loud caws... until all went silent.
They had all landed around them. A sea of crows, their eyes on the shiny girl. Staring for a long moment, they all suddenly opened their beaks, and spoke in a cawing tone. "Lord Melchior demands Shiny tribute!" With that, then would all jump into action, cawing out the name, 'Melchior!' as they attempted to grasp her as a group, and lift her off into the sky toward a certain rooftop, where their new dark lord awaited!
"Oh, for sure! Who wouldn't want soft, ultra tough, and lightweight armor?" He'd heard about people making spider silk armor prototypes in the past; it just hadn't been practical. With the volume of silk she could make it would suddenly become a workable idea.
He smiled. "Thanks, Megan, I can't wait to see how that turns out!" He would do anything he would give her an arm to lean on while she got her shoes on, and then follow her to the street.
She thanked him, and he scratched the back of his head. "Heh, I'm glad it went well! It was probably one of the coolest things I've done so far! The Trickster really was a great hero; I followed all of his guides on separating and taking out henchmen, and it went just like his book said it would!"
He felt a tap on his head again, and looked up a bit, as if he would somehow see it. His eyes were drawn back down to her bright blues as she asked him a retorical question. "Mm?"
His expression shifted a couple of times, to confusion when she said she didn't trust him, to a shy smile when she said boing friend with him was refreshing, and finally, eyes widened as she admitted wanting to bite him.
"...But you wouldn't, right Megan?" No reply. "Right?.... Megan?"
Bouncy clowns were everywhere. Seriously, he was surrounded by them. Bouncy clowns to the left. Bouncy clowns to the right, the front, behind. Xavier wiped sweat from his forehead. He hadn't been able to succeed yet, and they'd been at it for the better part of an hour.
The objective? Make all of the clowns fall back at the same time... Without losing all of your clothes.
This was Shin-Sensei's custom 'Don't end up naked' training.
With a look of complete concentration, Xavier crouched slightly, and took a deep breath. Mind clear, and body primed. He started up his full body repulsion field. So far, so good. Hair lifted and waved and clothing billowed slightly as everything was pushed lightly away from him. Easy. Now, the hard part... He pushed it harder. His hair stood straight up as his clothing danced about him violently. The nearest clowns wiggled a little in place.
Okay... Okay, just... focus. Focus. PUSH!
-BOOM!-
The shockwave ripped from him, blasting out in all directions. The clowns in all directions were thrown to the ground, before rocking back up as they did. Panting with effort, Xavier looked around to see if he'd knocked over all of them... "Did I... Did I do it?" Was there a breeze in here?
* * * Meanwhile... A Young wizard was up to vile, vile things. The Supremes had rated his skillset lowly. How dare they! Well, he would show them. He was an invocation expert the likes of which this world had never seen! He'd just made one little mistake on his assessment! It wouldn't happen again. Once they saw what he did today, well, they would have to accept his talents!
With the ritual complete, he stood from his building top in down town New York City, and cackled loudly, raising two hands to the sky and calling into the air for the last part of the ritual. Dark clouds began to appear around the building, swirling aggressively in a downward spiral toward the alter he'd set up. "Yes! Yeees! Heed me great forces! Summon me an army that will murder my foes, and lead me to supreme status!"
lightening crashed above him, and he cackled loudly, coaxing something within the clouds to join him in this mortal plane! Yelling one more time, he stepped forward , barely keeping his balance as the tripped on his shoe, smudging the carefully chalked magical circle he'd made without noticing. One. More. Push!
Another crash of lightning, this time lashing down to his very roof. "HRRRRG!" He was struck! The energy from the conjured storm rushed through him, and into the magical circle, which flared brightly, brilliantly for just a moment... before the rooftop went dark.
Without explanation, thousands, and thousands of crowd would flood in from all directions, and head toward a certain downtown area of New York.
Xavier's face redenned as she turned to him and stated as if it were obvious that she was buffing. He was ashamed. How could he not have trusted her? "You are... the scariest nice person I have ever met."
He followed her out after pulling out his phone to make the call to the local police. It was a quick conversation, he'd heard gunshots nearby and someone screaming for help inside. That would get a squad car and an ambulance there pretty quickly this late.
Walking behind her as they headed to retrieve her shoes, he looked up in thought as she mentioned making silk for the X-Men... "Well, you'd have to talk to Shin, or Mirror about it, I guess... But I think it sounds like a cool idea!" He was happy. This had gone well. Criminals defeated, past unlocked, and possibly a positive resource from the mansion came of it.
"Remember, you don't owe me or anything. Friends help friends."
It was honestly super hard to sit and watch this not knowing for sure if someone was going to die near him. His fists clenched and he had to put the sension into his thighs so he didn't shake. He visibly relaxed when she said she had an antivenom. He wasn't a fan of interrogations involving torture, but at least she wasn't going to leave him for dead.
He wasn't exactly an expert, but it became evident pretty quickly that this guy was going to break. There it was. Huh... Megan sold them silk? Like, for armor. Spider silk was supposed to be super strong, right? He looked to Megan. What was she thinking? How did she react to finding out her role in things.
She suddenly turned away, and said they could go. Xavier's eyes widened, and he pointed to the man. "M-Megan, you can't leave him like this!"
Also, they had to call the police, and send them this way to discover the printing press and the stamps. These people needed to go to prison for their crime, so they could be rehabilitated!
"Oh, hey, Juni, you left your door ope-" It had been a long day. One of those sort of days where you felt rushed through the whole thing, but at the same time it seemed to last forever. It was days like this that he could always count on being able to get home, cook something up, and wait for his neighbor to pop over to eat with him so he could tell her all about it.
That's what best friends did, after all. So, as he sat there, the Chicken Cordon Bleu he'd made slowly cooling, he frowned a bit. Hm... He could hear her over there; the walls were really thin. He tapped the table a little bit, shifted uncomfortably in his seat, tapped the table a bit more. Aaand, then he stood up and started wrapping up the plate of leftovers.
Moments later, he was walking on over to the apartment next door, plate of expertly prepared food in hand. He paused, however, when he realized the door was open.
Bring us now to the present.
The young hero stood at the entrance to the small apartment, eyebrow raised and jaw slightly agape as he spied Juniper and a strange man rolling around in a pile of money. He blinked a few times, furrowed his brow, and then nodded to himself, walking over to her coffee table, setting the food down, and wandering right on out. "Wow... strange dream..."
Megan was already here. She was... right behind him. Ohhh, boy. That was. Wait, was it mean to say that was creepy? He didn't want to be mean. Was it mean to think it?
He helped bind the man, unable to avoid the sinking feeling he felt like something bad was about to happen. Stepping back, he folded his arms and tried not to plume in silent pride as the villain actually recognised him! That was the first time! Megan retorted with a line straight out of the noble age of heroes. He realized he was in a cut scene.
Dramatic speech started to play out. She showed him her picture. He started to act very rude. Xavier frowned and crossed his arms, looking as intimidating as possible through the tension in the room. He felt the spider tapping him, and shifted a bit uncomfortably. Was everything okay? It didn't seem okay. He leaned in a bit when the man started whispering to her. Was it a confession? No, it seemed more-
She bit him!
"Megan!"
He'd taken a step forward, but stopped as he looked at the man. She said something about venom. Brown recluse? His eyes widened as he recalled his scouts training; their bites were nasty. Had she? On his neck!
"Megan, you promised-" The spider on his head was still tapping out the all is well signal. He halted mid step toward them, clenching his jaw. How could all be well? Unless.
Was she bluffing? He watched with a concerned look on his face. He couldn't let anyone die around him, bad or not. Still... She was his friend. He could trust her to do the right thing... Right?
By the time Megan was asking if she should try an distraction, Xavier was already on the move. Why?
There were only two of them left. He didn't need a distraction. He turned around a corner, and gunshots started ringing out immediately. There was a loud thud and some groaning before more gunshots flashed around the corner.
And then there was silence.
If Megan looked with her spiders, or followed him, she would see him looming over a man, one hand grasping his gun hand, and the other one over his mouth. Off to the side a person lay struggling to find conciousness, a dent behind their head where it had been shoved into the drywall behind.
His gun was sticking out of the ceiling.
Xavier spoke, just in case Megan hadn't followed. "All clear!" Their mark squirmed in his grasp, trying to talk through a muffled mouth.
Casually trying to knock someone out. "I make it seem easy because I have practiced, and trained my body for it, Megan. You aren't going to just... be able to do it." Well, to be honest, he'd been almost as good as his first instructor after two days, but he wouldn't mention it.
"Good... Let's get this done quick, and then we can finish up with them two.
He peeked into the room to see the man working away, before nodding stiffly, and walking on in. The man asked if he was Jolly. What a strange name. Where ever would someone get a name like that? The author must have known someone by that name, and used it to to traumatize her husband.
Anyway. He stepped up casually and stated. "Nope." Before punching the man in the face, and catching him before he hit the gound. Laying him down softly, he looked back to Megan as the guy shifted and started to swim back to conciousness. He motioned toward the guy. She was the one with the rope, after all.
As she got to work, he kept a watch on the hallway leading to the press room. Two left.
Xavier watched in stunned silence as she formed a fist, closing her thumb in it. Oh god, don't punch him like that, please! She'd dislocate her thumb! He sighed some relief as she shifted her grip to a proper one. Still, there was no way this little woman was knocking this man out with one punch. He held out his hands to try and settle her down as he approached.
He froze as the man spoke to the person that wasn't there, and Megan... replied. Oh jesus. The man bought it, though. He stepped forward again as the man tried to stand and Megan grabbed his gun.
Then... she restained him, saying a one-liner and everything. He watched in silent shock, jaw dropped as the man was gagged. Wait, he was still struggling. Quickly Xavier reached out both hands to poke one side of his head with one arm, and bounce it into the other hand. One rattling later, the man was out like a light. "Wow, Megan, that was pretty neat... Kinda terrifying, but neat."
What did that leave? The two... the guy printing bills... That was it, right? He gave her look, stating firmly. "You said I was in charge, right? Try to communicate with me if you are going to go off alone... We had a plan, we have to stick to it." He nodded, and then started moving across the room toward where the printing man was.
He didn't say the next part; that would be uncouth. But really, Shit! He was on the roof as quickly as he could be. Using some zip ties from his totally not fanny pack, he restraine the two guys, spotting the spider half way through.
Was she... caught? That would be... very bad. He'd told her he would keep her safe! He was down the stairs as fast as he could go without being noticed, stopping only when he walked into the first room and saw Megan just... standing behind a man.
What?
But... Why? His eyes went as wide as saucer plates as she seemed to be... deciding what to do? Oh... Oh no...
Wasn't she supposed to be smart?! He started to try and tiptoe up to help her without the man noticing his... much bigger frame.
Ahhh, the waiting game. He coughed a few more times as the felt the spider tap. Going a litte more silent, he waited for the knock. Randy. Randy was his name? He'd looked more like a Paul. When she knocked, he opened the door, and punched her hard in the face, following through with a head bounce with his powers just to be safe. He'd gotten it down to a science, what it took to put someone out cold, to he had a tendency not to go any further than that.
Removing her rifle, he threw her over a shoulder, and headed up toward the roof once more. Placing the gun by the door, he set the woman down carefully, checking on their other detainee real quick before heading down the fire escape for the two outliers.
"Tap me when I'm near them!" He rounded a corner, and then another, seeing one of the two guys, who grinned widely, opening his mouth to say some form of congratualtions for the sex that didn't happen. Xavier didn't break stride, punching him in the face while running. Rounding another corner, the other guy did almost exactly the same thing.
Punch. One over each shoulder, he was climbing the fire escape again, grunting with effort as he launched them over the edge of the roof onto the top. "Whew... okay, how are we looking up here?"
"Oh, yeah, I understand. It takes a while for some people." He had taken to his power immediately, but it seemed as though that was rare, case in point.
His eyes widened as she moaned from the roof. Oh. Well. That was. Not at all accurate. I mean, he had one example, but he couldn't imagine people actually sounded like that. Did they? Wait, something else came to mind. Those noises he heard through the wall at night. Ah. Right. Okay, so some people sounded like that.
Oh, they were wandering off. He smiled her way, and nodded, before turning to head toward the fire escape. Quickly, he climbed down, jogging around to the front entrance quietly. Quickly, he knocked on the front door, turned and jumped back up to the roof, and ran into the roof entrance, making coughing and choking sounds at the top of the stairs.
This was taken straight out of "The Trickers's manual for thwarting foes." Where the Aptly named Trickster recounted his foiling of the Douglas brothers by breaking up their group with multiple distractions.
He retreated back into the bathroom where he'd ambushed the guy as he made the racket. Ideally, someone would answer the door while some came up and tried to check on their friend choking in the bathroom. In the close quarters of the hallways, he was at a huge advantage. If he could take out two or three here, he could try to make it to the person checking on the door, head out to take out the two people searching for the teens, and then they would be down to three or so people; an easy fight for him.
Placing his hands on his hips, the young hero silently praised himself for a good start to the mission. He watched in fascination as Megan made actual spider silk bindings to wrap up the man, stars in his eyes as he jumped in place at the coolness of it. She was like... as far spider as someone could go without being a spider. He reminded himself that she probably had the urge to eat the man, and tempered his excitement.
"Alright... Well... Let's-" He grabbed a rock from the gravel roof, and threw it toward where they'd tucked into... Maybe some sound would motivate them to check things out, and leave the building with less guards. Smiling, and turning toward her again, he paused as her shoulders sank. "Everything alright?"
It was not. His face suddenly scrunched up as he tried not to laugh at her. "HNGK-Ch.... Heh... Um... thought spiders didn't get caught in their own web." He walked on over to her, carefully grabbing her much smaller hands from the outside, and pulling with all of his might to break the threads binding them together. It was even harder than it looked.
