Character
Personality: Xavier is… Well, he’s something. All of his life, he has wanted to be a Hero. His desires embody his personality almost perfectly. If one could imagine all of the best comic hero traits rolled up into one, that is him. He is honest to a fault. He always tries to do the right thing, and he doesn’t just try, either. He possesses the conviction to get things done. He’s a born natural at pretty much any physical task he picks up. He has a perfect smile, that he employs with no desire to flaunt or manipulate others.
In short. You just want to punch him for being so… Him.
He has always had that sort of aura about him. Whenever he played sports, people on his team felt like everything was going to go their way because he was there, and people who played against him were sad to lose, but happy it was to such a gosh darn good guy.
It’s not a huge stretch to wonder what is beneath that thick heroic shell. A deep need and desire to be loved and adored by everyone? A punishing self doubt that pushes him to be better than he is, and never accepts anything but an unattainable perfection of self? A crippling fear of failure?!
Nope, None of those things. He’s just that good.
Hobbies/ Interests: Before he discovered his power last week? Why, Hero LARPs, of course. On top of that, working out, Parkour, Martial arts, Pretty much anything that would make him better at Hero LARPing. Job or part time job and description: Daddy is supportive and neatly Middle Class Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Normal Human fears. Clowns, Spiders, Failure. Nothing really shakes him to his core, though. He always stays positive. Special talents: A lot. He is a natural at almost anything he picks up. He has experience with Moto Cross, Skateboarding, Parkour, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Boxing, BJJ, HEMA, and he is a darn good LARPer.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: He’s such a good boy.
Mutations
Mutation description: Repulsion! Xavier’s ability is that of being able to force things away from him at varying speeds. This manifests in many different ways. The main ones are as follows: Single object repulsion: Xavier touches an object, and it is flung away from him at a high speed. This can be a physical object of any mass, about the size of a compact car or smaller. This object can be moving toward him at a high speed, or stationary/Etc, he will still be able to repel it, though he must be able to see it and make skin contact with it. If he chooses an object greater than his size limit, he is instead thrown away from it at a high speed.
Mass, Small object repulsion: Xavier plants both feet, and emits an outward field of steady repulsion that affects objects he cannot see. He is planted in place when this happens, but is impervious to most outside attacks when in this position. Because of the nature of this repulsion, he cannot breathe while it is in effect, and thus, can only hold this as long as he can hold his breath. People nearby would feel a heavy wind-like pressure as air particles are thrown away from him at high speeds in this stance. Repulsive Eruption: Xavier pushes all of his strength into one outburst, and sends out a wave of repulsive energy that can literally bring the house down, depending on how sturdy the house is. This blows his clothes off. Being near him when this happens is not a good idea. After this attack, he is unable to repulse for one minute, after which his abilities begin returning to him slowly. Strengths: He is awarded a good deal of versatility with this mutation, and can be pretty difficult to harm if he knows you are coming. Guns are useless against his small object repulsion field, and physical attacks as a whole are difficult to get off if he sees you coming. Weaknesses and Limitations: He cannot aim his repulsion very well, meaning while he can bounce things off of him to throw them at other people, the area he ends up flinging said objects at is general. His ability is largely close range, due to it being touch-based. The Eruption leaves him with naked and powerless for one minute. He is fixed in one location while using his Mass Repulsion, and thus he cannot attack while blocking things like bullets.
Powergrowth: 1/13/21
Growth description:
Attraction: Xavier has gained the mirror ability to his Repulsion skillset. It works very similarly, but with the exact opposite polarity. Xavier will gain the ability to pull any object smaller than a '94 Geometro Fusion toward him provided he has made skin, or through clothes contact with it in the past 12 months. Should the object be larger than said car, he will instead be pulled toward the object.
The focal point of the attraction will be based on the exact spot he has touched. The speed at which he moves, or the objects move is variable, dependent on his will, but not able to meet or get close to any sort of supersonic speeds. In relation to moving toward, or away from objects himself, his repulsion will gain distanced activation, meaning he will be able to use repulsion and attraction to pick how far away he is from something he's touched. This will essentially give him the ability to 'fly', provided he is surrounded by surfaces he has touched within the last year.
Strengths: Flying is cool! He will suddenly have much more control over how his power plays out. The longer he has been in a place, the more he has touched things in it, the more effective he is in that place. This makes him highly effective in, say, his home town, or NYC. There doesn't seem to be any limitation on how much, or how often he can use this ability.
Weaknesses/limitations: If he hasn't touched it in the last rolling 12 month period, he has no control over it. In regards to affecting living objects, he is only able to affect the last being he's touched, and only once per instance of contact. He needs two points of reference to focus on while 'flying', meaning he can't just launch himself into the sky and hover there; he has to be at a stopping point between two points he's touched in the past. In order to effectively fly throughout the city, he will have to find a way to make contact with most of the city's surfaces at some point. He may have to take up window cleaning. He is only able to concentrate on two instances at any one time. This means he can do things like, fly, and repel attacks, but cannot attack with his powers while doing those things.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: He’s got it all. The muscles, the stamina, the speed. He can reach the top shelf, and yet still nimbly touch the floor with his palms with no problem. Fighting Style: 60’s style batman fighting? He knows how to do holds, and how to keep range and jab, but gosh does it feel good to hit someone with a good hook and imagine a grand onomatopoeia in the background. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: It gets the job done in satisfying style, but if someone’s really accomplished as a fighter they will see telegraphed moves from a mile away. It’s really only effective because of his athletic nature.
History Of Your Character Xavier was born to a middle class couple with a somewhat turbulent relationship. Early on he developed the ability to learn by seeing things done wrong, and deciding to do it right. Tenuous bonds were strengthened by tragedy when his Mother fell terminally ill. During this time he and his father watched as her health steadily declined, and they all supported each other the best they could. One coping mechanism he took to while living through this unfair ordeal was the escapism of super hero comic books. It was comforting for him to be able to go to a place where issues were black and white and the good always won out in the end. His idolization grew over time, and he started to foster this feeling… like he was meant to be like them. A Hero.
When he was 10, his mother passed away. His father leaned on him for emotional support, and he in turn learned to become a pillar for the needs of others. Being the support for others can be draining, though, and so he spent his time escalating his escapism. His father supported his every tangential desire, as well; He wanted to join a super hero LARP? Heck yeah, let’s design your suit! Want a motorbike? Here’s a motorbike! Karate Lessons? Sure! Bored of Karate? Boxing! Everything he wanted, he got; such were the perks of emotionally supporting someone who was very aware they needed you, and could not give back what you gave them. With all of this, as he grew, so did his convictions. Every day, he prepared, and he caught every LARP event he could, becoming somewhat of a figure in the Hero LARP communities, and all the while feeling like he was destined for something more.
He had to be a mutant, right? It was meant to be. One in a million were special like that, and he knew he was too.
That’s why, while playing a game of basketball, when he launched the ball 500 feet in the air on accident, he knew exactly what had happened, and what he was going to do.
He was a mutant, and he was going to go be a Hero in New York.
That’s what all of them did these days, right?
Roleplay What’s your OOC alias?: Puck! Where did you learn about this site?: Calley’s Googlemancy brought me here. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who:Saphirus, Doc, L Sample RP: It was the right thing to do. The young man set his jaw once again, looking in the mirror, and standing tall and proud. His bags were all packed, his dad was looking for his keys, and he was staring in the mirror in the bathroom. Xavier took another deep breath as he looked over his suit once more. He was starting to feel like this was all a bit vain, but reminded himself that it was important to make sure everything was fitting right. Still, he couldn’t help but smile a bit. He looked like a hero.
“You look great, son.” a quick glance revealed his shorter father looking in on him with a somewhat tired smile. They’d been sewing the new suit all night. He’d accidentally blown up the last one yesterday.
“Thanks Pops…” He turned and looked at the older man, smiling fondly as he walked up to place a hand on his shoulder. “You sure you’re gonna be okay here alone? I don’t have to go…”
His father shook his head firmly. “No, no, you do. That place needs you, son. More than this town does. You know I’ll get by. I got my job to keep me busy.” They shared a beat, and then broke it off. “Well, c’mon Hero. Let’s get you to the train station.”
Hours later, Xavier Legend was standing in New York City, staring up at the apartment building his father had found. It was a bit of a rough neighborhood, but that’s what he was looking for, and it was close to the School they’d enrolled him to. Heh, the place shared his first name.
He could have chosen to live on campus, apparently, but that would get in the way of his real reason for being here. He had a lot of work to do, he could tell already. Undaunted, he took a contented deep breath of the strange city air, and stepped into the old building. It would be easy to say, at this point, that he wasn’t ready for this city, and what living here entailed… But it might be just as correct to say that it also wasn’t ready for him.
