The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>”Alexandra, she was real. Probably the first woman I ever really loved. Some **** happened I lost an eye and she wanted to end it. Thought it was her fault. Any who, a telepath got into my head, made me feel and see things I never thought I could have. Everything I ever wanted. Peace. Wife. Kids.”
Sveta let him talk. She was the one who asked the question, the least she could do was not interrupt... or ask any more questions. It was clearly painful for Sam to talk about these things, and he probably never would have if he was sober.
>>”That thing you saw on the roof tonight, it wasn’t the real her just a fragmented nightmare. Those kids as well. Sammy and Ayrin, nothing like the my two… he two I’m forced to remember. The Not-family. When I didn’t cooperate with the telepath they twisted the dream into the nightmare.”
The Russian vigilante frowned and drank more of the vodka. She had never really had a telepath in her head, and she thanked her luck for it, because she couldn't even begin to imagine what it would be like to question reality itself.
>>”Almost didn’t make it through that one. Took a handful of the X-Men to get me back. So… boom. Odd, you’re the first person who really asked me that I answered so easily. Appreciate if you don’t tell anyone else about what I told you. I don’t talk about it, it is easier to forget.”
She nodded. His secrets were safe with her, just as hers were safe with him. In fact, she wasn't even sure that she would remember in the morning.
>>”So I’m curious what did you learn when becoming a wife?”
"I never became a wife" she smirked "De Matchmaker trained me for things like cooking, and running a household, and balancing checks, boring stuff like dat dat I never knew. She also taught me how to look hot and do makeup and dress nice and walk in heels. Believe it or not I used to be a punk."
Such. A long time ago.

>>”Ha didn’t say anything about a threesome, I mean… if you want to do that… They’re called walls, ya know? Like those right there. I like how that was your first thought.”
"Pfft." Sveta was doing the eye-rolling again. Because, clearly someone sitting around in the next room would have been a lot less awkward on all counts. Clearly.
>>”Boom huh? Boom is something I am familiar with. You saw my not-wife. Queen of boom.”
Sveta was not sure if that was the same kind of boom than what she was talking about, but they were both too drunk to care.
>>”And with my powers, my range increased from the look of things more less controllable structures. Kind of like pointing a cannon to hit a bee or something. Then there is your body heat. Like you are radiating heat. Well everyone radiates heat but with you it’s a bit brighter more defined.”
She had no idea what he wanted with the cannon and the bees. Was that some kind of an innuendo? Whatever... She sipped some more vodka.
"So, your not-wife... who is she? Is she someone dey made up?" she asked, alcohol clearly breaking down her filters and allowing her to ask question she probably should not have been asking.

>>”I’m a teacher, I don’t get paid a lot. I’d like to think I’d gotten a handle of my abilities after all these years but... You did give me quite a boost back up on the roof. That kiss… Some kiss.”
"Yeah" Sveta smirked into her glass of vodka "Combat kissing is kind of my specialty."
Maybe she should trademark it.
>>”Already formulating a few ideas up here. Ones that involve people with the abilities to nullify mutations, collars that can cancel out powers… I think you’ll find I’m very resourceful when motivated properly.”
Sveta chuckled at that. She had no doubt he was motivated.
"So your solution is to pick between collars and threesomes?" she asked pointedly. He was apparently drunk enough now to go there. Go figure. She'd remind him in the morning, just to see his face.
>>”How different?... With the powers I mean?”
"Well." she said, sitting back on the bed too, thinking "Depends on de person."
Annd, apparently she was drunk enough now to talk about past boyfriends.
"Dere was dis one guy... he could coat himself in metal. Kinda did de thing you did, wid your lips. Dat worked fine. And den dere was Jude... wid him, it depended on de powers he had at any time. When he copied mine, dat was kind of... boom."
And sometimes it involved meese.

>>”Whoa, never said anything about dating! Not… that there is anything wrong with you or dating with you, just…”
Sveta snorted in amusement, which was not a very graceful sound, but both of them were drunk past that point by now. It was kind of entertaining to see Sam act awkwardly when dating was mentioned. She did not peg him for a guy who would worry about things like that. They were alike in that regard. For the time being, anyway.
>>”Another?”
"Sure." she refilled her vodka and clinked her glass to his. Short of freezing the entire building, this was the best way to relax for both of them. She would deal with the headache tomorrow.
>>”Vigilantes with benefits…. No dates… I can do that. Doesn’t mean you’ll get a raise though just because I’m the boss. Sides, not sure you’d be able to handle anything else than the benefits with me.”
She arched a mocking eyebrow at him.
"Darn, dere goes my master plan for getting more money out of you." she smirked "And also, you only get benefits as long as no one ends up as a popsicle. You figure dat out... It's different wid each power."
She spoke from experience. Some mutant boyfriends were easier to manage than other mutant boyfriends. Or... friends who ended up causing a neural bomb...

Temperature dropped again, and she noticed him having extra ice around his lips now. His eye was also glowing a brighter blue, which was kind of fascinating to see. He did not seem to mind either at all. Sveta exhaled, her breath forming a little puff of steam.
>>”Better kisser than I thought you’d be. Made it sound like you weren’t too experienced with it.”
"I was trained to be a good wife, and I already knew how to cook." she said curtly, shutting down the conversation before it went to dangerous territory. Like, past boyfriends. The ones she actually liked. Like Jude. She did have a lot of practice with kissing.
>>”Think this is going to make it difficult to work with each other now?”
"Vat, vigilantes with benefits?" she smirked, finishing her vodka and setting the glass on the floor "I'm not on de books anyway. And I'm not going to date you."
Maybe both of them needed to blow off a little steam.

>>“I have all the time in the world. Where would you want to go? We should probably get out of this neighborhood actually. My car is back at my friend’s place.”
"We should probably get the car out of this neighborhood too" Sveta noted, and she walked with the girl back where they had come from. The fire was already out, and people were rapidly losing interest, clearing out of the way and going back to their own business.
"So... do you know many other mutants?" she asked out of curiosity "I don't get to hang out with a lot of dem, because of my powers. But I always wonder."

Sveta rolled her eyes at Serge making a pass at both her and Eve at the same time, and kept the gun in her hand, staying alert as voices appeared down the hall. Eve did not look so good, and the mirror guy needed to focus on getting everyone out of there, so it came down to her and Sam bringing up the rear, and she knew it. As the others got taken one by one through a reflecting surface, she made sure they were safe to return. Once it was her turn she holstered the gun and allowed Gawain to pull her into the mirrors.
>>”Really? How’d you find the vodka so quickly?”
"I helped" Sveta grinned as Serge offered her a glass. She probably should not have been drinking on the job, but Sam obviously was, and she could keep pace with him when it came to liquor, and he knew it. She had also exchanged a few words with Serge, him obviously enchanted that she was Russian.
>>”Everyone alright? Eve?”
"Fine" she said for herself "But wanna get out of the gown is possible. Not very comfortable to fight in. Are we expecting any more trouble?"
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
No, it really wasn't. Wasn't really anything, other than an experiment to see whether she would break him, although she had no doubt he would prove to be a good kisser, just based on experience. She felt the temperature drop around them as the kiss ended, and watched for signs of things getting out of hand. Sam didn't seem worried at all.
>>”No one was hurt yet. Guess that wasn’t just enough yet huh?”
Instead of coming up with a witty answer, Sveta leaned in again and planted a kiss on him, this time making sure it was a good one. It was pretty good too, even with her multitasking: She counted out the seconds in her head until she was sure she had reached the limit of her boosting power. This time she pulled back further, not quite sure what she could expect to see. Good thing she still had her jacket on.

>>”Challenges are how I keep myself alive! Everyday is a challenge when you’re me!... One eye.”
Sveta rolled - both of her - eyes once again, and finished off her drink. She was feeling the buzz now, warming through her limbs and numbing the pain of various bruises and scratches. It wasn't enough to make her head swim - she could hold her liquor - but it definitely made the situation more interesting.
"Yeah, I can imagine you are a challenge."
>>”I mean if you don’t like a challenge. I understand challenges aren’t for everyone.”
She didn't even notice at first what he was doing, until he leaned towards her. It had been... fairly long since she had kissed anyone outside of a life-or-death battle situation. She instinctively leaned back and away, the movement made more prominent by her buzzed state, before she realized what he was doing, ice and all.
Well, that was an interesting idea.
She already knew that barriers worked. She also knew that her powers had a radius, which would probably keep the neighbors from getting frostbite if something did go wrong. But still, this was rather...
Whatever.
She let him press his lips against hers for a few seconds. The ice coating was cold, but not painfully so. She broke the contact fairly quickly, leaning back and looking for signs of impending frozen doom.

>>”Thought there was an age limit for that stuff.”
"Dere is. His mother organized the whole thing, and she lied to both of us." Sveta summarized, glossing over the fact that she had also been lying at the time, about pretty much everything but her age.
>>”As you should be!A lady as good looking as you! Way hotter when she doesn’t go around kissing everyone! But I appreciate your concern for the masses, you don’t have to worry however. I won’t be freezing anyone anytime soon. That kiss you gave me was stolen and seeing as I’m a classy broad you’d have to at least buy me a drink first before you try to kiss me again. Even then we’d have to go somewhere where my powers wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone or anything. Not like I know the access codes to get into a place like that.”
"You mean, anyone or anything other dan me?" Sveta grinned. He seemed to have forgotten that in order to get overboosted, she also needed to be present, up close and personal. Although she was not entirely sure why anyone would ever want to do that.
>>”So…. What is just enough kissing? This concept is unfamiliar to me…”
"Anything dat stops before anyone gets hurt?" she suggested pointedly, sipping more of her vodka, then rolled her eyes at him again "You just like challenges don't you."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
"Yup." the stereotype of the 'mail order bride' seemed to be pretty prevalent in the US, especially when people were dealing with Eastern European women. She didn't expect Sam to know a lot about it, though.
>>”Saliva?... I had a student like that. Fausto… great kid, a little violent when I first started teaching him but I think I beat it out of him. Think there was any relation?”
"It was him" Sveta said with a shrug. She had met Fausto last so long ago she was even surprised at herself how much she did not feel anything about their failed marriage attempt.
>>”Thought you had to get married when you met him? Not asking for me of course, just curiosities sake. I never needed help from the internet.”
Sveta rolled her eyes but smirked anyway. It was good to see some of Sam's usual swagger back coming back. Maybe it was just the alcohol.
>>”I mean, your evil twin. Come’on, she seemed to like me. She kissed nice as well. Though I got to say, yours had a bit more of a kick. Sure you get that a lot though.”
"Yeah." she nodded, ignoring his attempt to flirt "You are lucky she didn't have my powers, though. Too much of kissing and you would flash freeze everything around you." she noted "Dat's why I am careful about who I kiss."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
>>”Technically they didn’t even exist. Lot of **** happened. Wasn’t ready for tonight. Sorry about your step-dad.”
She expected him to brood more the drunker he got, but Sam actually seemed to lighten up as he processed the events of the evening. She nodded, not really wanting to discuss the stepfathers any further.
>>”So you have a sister and a matchmaker? Like a dating site?”
"Something like dat" she nodded "She picked us up from the streets and helped me get my act together. Den she helped me find an American man online that wanted to marry me. You call it a mail-order bride, I guess. Dat's how I came here, to start fresh."
She drank the rest of her vodka and refilled the glass. She seemed to be holding her liquor pretty well.
"Except, de guy they ordered me for... well, I was a surprise to him too. And den I found out about my powers. And dat he was also a mutant. It was a long day."
Probably the longest day of her life, so far.
"We decided a guy who has acid saliva and my boosting are not a good match. So. Not married." she finished her story with a smirk.

>>”I have a few places in the warehouse district as well, one with tunnels to different locations and some security systems. Kind of like a halfway house for any under my protection and or employment. Guess you’d fit under that as well. I’ll get you the address. Never hurts to have a few more spots.”
Sveta nodded. Another hideout might come in handy. So far she had dealt with thugs more than actual criminal masterminds, but she could never know when she would run into someone who had the brains to follow her. Apparently Sam was thinking the same.
>>”So Daddy issues?... Errr… sorry. You don’t have to respond to that.”
"Guys like dat don't they" Sveta smirked, taking a swig of the vodka, then shrugged "Mother had a series of boyfriends. Some better dan others. The one on the roof was... one of the others. We ran away, my little sister and I. Dat was before the Matchmaker found us and helped me come to the States." she looked up at Sam for a while.
"I'm sorry about your family."
