The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“Well, that sounds like a pretty important job.” Making sure small children weren’t seeing something inappropriate was a very good thing, in her opinion. “My mom has a couple jobs. She waitresses and she was a secretary at an office for a while. There’ve been other ones too, but not at the same time of course. That would be way too much at one time, but mom didn’t have too much college before I was born so options are limited.” The brunette smiled at Locke and started to draw a table for a problem she had just read over, but stopped when he mentioned something about getting out of the hospital. He made a quick attempt to pretend that he never said that, so she pretended also. It was obvious he had no desire to talk about it and had accidently let the knowledge slip.
Henrietta blinked, a little confused when Locke began talking about his little sister getting stuck in a men’s bathroom once also. He explained that she couldn’t tell the difference. Of course, the teen had been able to tell, but had gone in anyway. When they had both been someone else, whoever Locke was had sounded serious about her finding somewhere to hide, so she ran to the first place she found. It had just happened to be the men’s restroom. “I bet she was scared. I know that one time I got lost in a store. It was the scariest thing that happened to me at the time. Since then, I’ve gone through a lot more, so I wouldn’t mind getting lost in a store anymore.” Henri was no longer writing, just staring at her paper. She wasn’t really reading anything that was on it either, she was thinking. Thinking about everything she had been through since getting to New York. Thinking about her mom being so much happier now that she wouldn’t have to be ashamed of her daughter.
Henri gave an embarrassed smile and then shook her head. “I’ve never lived in a cardboard box, of course, but I can just imagine how horrible it would be. Your house would get really soggy after a rain storm or could blow away while you’re out doing something.” She looked at Locke. “Sometimes I think I have it hard, but when you think about all the people out there who have nothing, it makes you feel kind of grateful.” Her blue eyes glanced down to her math book and she scribbled something on her paper while it was still in her mind.
“You don’t know your mom? I’m sorry, that must be hard. I know that I’ve had a hard time accepting that either my father wants nothing to do with me or my mom wants me to have nothing to do with him. For all I know, it could be a combination of both.” Her brows were knit together in thought for a moment before smirking at what Locke said about his step-mom being an internet nanny. “An internet-nanny, huh? I’ve never heard of that before. Is it literally her watching kids over the internet?” She was genuinely curious, considering this was the first time she ever heard of the profession. She added, “I’m glad you don’t live in a cardboard box. That would be rough.” She smiled slightly. It was nice talking to Locke when he wasn’t grumpy or walking away.
The brunette waved her hand as if to say it was no big deal that he left her. He hadn’t been himself and that didn’t require an apology. Like she had said, she was just he hadn’t gotten hurt. “I’m sure at the time it made perfect sense. I know that I wasn’t myself. I would never lock myself in a men’s bathroom usually.” She laughed and tapped her pencil against the table for a moment as she read over another math problem.
Welcome welcome! It's nice to see another girl Henri's age on here. I love the power and can't wait to see how she uses it. We'll definitely have to thread sometime.
Building confidence sounded very nice, considering the girl sometimes had a lack of it. She smiled at the thought of being able to go anywhere or do anything without feeling nervous or inadequate. Maybe people would treat her better if she gave off a sense of confidence, but she wasn’t really sure. Sometimes people who seemed super-confident were snotty, but other times it made you want to respect them more.
Come at me? This sounded really familiar. An image of Mr. Stein popped into her mind and she felt herself shudder. Attacking him had not gone well and she hadn’t even seen him fight before. Lenna, on the other hand, she had seen in action. She had been tough and swift, taking down a few men within a minute or two. There was nothing the brunette could do that would surprise her or catch her off guard.
So, even though she knew it was pointless, the girl ran at the blond. She dropped down and swiped her leg around in a circle at the woman’s legs. As she went downwards, her hair flew up and began to move. All of her defenses were up, so her hair also took action. It would do its best to protect her, but probably not do much.
((Would it be okay if Henri discovered her power growth while training with Lenna?))
Henrietta stepped out of her silver Dodge Magnum wearing a cute, dark green party dress, small silver heels, silver hoop earrings and a grumpy look on her face. Her long hair was in an upsweep and as always her makeup was done. She was down the street, a couple blocks away from Twyla’s new apartment building. Holding a silver clutch and taking long strides, the woman began to make her way closer and closer to the building. After a few minutes, she made out three familiar shapes. As soon as she saw them, her frown turned into a smirk.
Walking up behind the trio, the woman said loudly, “I see we’re all a bit late. Makes us look like a bunch of idiots, but at least we all made it.” She hugged Emerald, then Milo, and then Maya. “You all look well. It’s been a while Milo. How’s everything going?” Henri was going to elbow Van to speak up, but realized he was working. She sighed quite audibly. Looking to her right, where he always stood towering a few inches above her, the brunette frowned again. “He’s been so busy and I love that he wants to make a difference, but it’d be nice if he could come with me places.” She laughed and rolled her eyes. “I’m being kind of dramatic. We do spend time together, today just happened to be a work day. I guess running late just doesn’t sit well with me.” The usually punctual woman smiled.
Clapping her hands together, the woman headed towards the entrance of the apartment building. “Let’s do this! I can’t wait to see her apartment!” For a moment, Henrietta felt like a teenager again, hanging out with her friends. She felt excited. Her life had become something so serious and routine, that just being around them made her feel a little more free. Of course she didn’t want to have a different life, but sometimes it was nice to mix it up a little. Maybe it was good Van wasn’t with so she could just have some friend time. Though, she would like it if her friends were his friends too, but that was his decision. She wouldn’t force people onto him. That would just be weird and mean.
((Twyla, if you want to have Van in, let me know and I’ll change this. I figured you wouldn’t want to have him in since it makes threads hard for you. Lol. Just let me know though and I’ll redo it no problems. ))
Henrietta Braun had only told one person who wasn’t in the Kabal about her joining their faction. Really, all that she had gotten was some self-defense lessons. It wasn’t like she was doing anything bad or illegal, but she felt like she was doing something wrong. She wasn’t sure why, maybe it was because she had never had the chance to tell her closest friends. The only opportunity she ever had was with Amber, and she barely knew the girl. There was a knot in the pit of her stomach as she paced around her room, waiting. Waiting for Twyla, Mirror, and Emerald.
The girl had spread word to meet at her room at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. She sat on the bed, her legs curled up underneath her bottom. Her fingers curled into her blanket, holding onto it tightly for comfort. Her bedroom door was wide open, practically inviting her friends inside. Henri was wearing a pair of dark wash jeans and a peach-colored shirt covered with a white sweatshirt. Her long, brown hair was down and still a tad wet from showering only an hour earlier.
While she still had time, Henrietta closed her eyes and twined her fingers together in prayer. Lord, I know you’re there. You may be busy, well, actually I’m sure you are, but..but I want to ask a favor. She sat for a moment, just thinking what she wanted most. There were so many things she wanted, and she knew it wasn't like he was a genie. She didn’t have to lmit her requests. It just seemed greedy to ask for more than one thing when you had shelter, food, and friends. Please give me the strength to tell my friends about the Kabal and please help me to stay strong and not cry about everything else too. The girl pinched her eyes closed even tighter and quirked her lips to the side. And one more thing…Please let me keep my friends. I need them…I don’t really have anyone else but them. She felt her eyes sting like she was going to cry, so she kept her eyes closed.
Locke was really quiet as she talked about her future. She wasn’t sure if it meant that he didn’t like what she said, or if he wasn’t sure what to say because he didn’t have a plan. The girl glanced down at her book, hoping that he wasn’t mad or something. Chewing slightly at the end of her pencil, she read a problem to herself. ”Figure out if x can be factored out of both equations. If x can be factored out, it makes the two equations inverses. Show all your work.” A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she opened a notebook and began to jot down the first equation. Next, she set up the second equation underneath. Plugging the first one into the second one, she got x. “I think that’s right,” Henri muttered to herself.
The brunette looked back up at Locke as he spoke about colleges and tuition. She had forgotten about the money part of college. Henrietta groaned. “I’m going to need a job. Or 5 jobs. I don’t have money for something like college and I don’t know how much my mother will be willing to help out. You’d think quite a bit since she was the one that kicked me out of the house, but I’ve started losing my faith in anything involving her.” The teen felt her stomach doing turns at the thought of how expensive everything would be. “Maybe I’ll just work minimum wage my whole life and live in a cardboard box with 13 kids that aren’t even mine, but I’ll take care of them because I understand their heartache and grief, but I end up having to give them up because I can’t even feed myself!” Her blue eyes were wide and her voice kept getting higher and higher pitch until she stopped herself. After a few silent seconds to get her breath, she blinked and then blushed. “Sorry, I just…My mom sent me here and I don’t even know my dad’s first name. Mom works two jobs and still had a hard time paying for stuff when I was there. I’ll never afford college, even with loans and scholarships.”
Henri wondered what exactly Locke had been thinking when he walked off, but it didn’t sound like he was even sure, so there was no point in speculating. He said that he had rocks stuck in his knees and the girl made a pained face. “Ouch, I’m sure that was a bit of a surprise. It’s just good that no one was confused beyond their ability to function. Someone could’ve done something dumb and gotten hurt. It was good that I had locked myself in a bathroom. I didn’t even think I was really a living person. It was weird and made me feel like I was an idiot when I had come to.” She shook her head and rolled her eyes at herself. She then smiled. “But really, I’m glad you’re okay.”
The boy smiled and then gestured at the seat. Henrietta grinned back to let him know she was grateful and sat in the chair next to her heavy book bag. Yanking it onto her lap, she opened and began pulling things out one by one. First, a giant math book emerged. It was for Pre-Calculus. It was followed by a chemistry book, a dictionary, and a grammar book. She sighed as she stared down at the thick books lying in front of her. Her blue eyes met Locke’s uncovered blue eye. A crooked smile appeared on her face. “Well, I can’t say I’m looking forward to any of these things, but it would nice to be able to get into a good college. I think I’d like to stay in New York, though I’m only junior. I guess I have some time to decide.” The thought of college used to terrify her. The brunette hadn’t ever wanted to go away and leave her mom, but that problem had already been taken care of, considering she had been forced out because of her mutation.
Henri smirked as she listened to Locke murmur about a math problem. In her head, she started to do the math. She tuned out everything else and concentrated. It seemed like 33 to her. Right after that, the brunette heard the young man announce the answer ‘33’. She laughed. “I just got that answer.” The girl watched silently as he checked the answer in the back of his book. “Twenty-four?!” He sounded so surprised, and she didn’t blame him. “Are you serious? That doesn’t seem right. Maybe they just choose random numbers so everyone appears to be wrong. I think it may be a conspiracy.” She stared at the evil book with a pouty face. “Well, I’m upset. I hate when people make me feel stupid. I usually do well in school.” With a sigh, she lied her head down on her crossed arms that rested on the table. “Great…”
Peeking back up after a couple seconds, she picked her head off her arms. “Okay…Let’s see.” Henrietta flipped open her pre-calc book and quirked one eyebrow. “Inverses, eh? Compared to the last unit, I guess this isn’t too bad.” She smirked and dug through her backpack again. “Pencil, pencil, pe-- Oh! There it is!” The brunette pulled a pencil case out and then opened that and pulled out a pencil. Next, she turned back to her bag and dug a little more. When he hands came back out this time, she had her calculator and a notebook. “Time to get down to work. So, is there a specific subject you’re studying, or are you just doing practice questions?”
She glanced at him and then smiled. “By the way, I wanted to ask, has everything been going well? I was worried when you were gone at Halloween. I just remember getting very confused, thinking I was a ragdoll, and then snapping back out of it. At that point, I had been locked in a stall, locked in a men’s restroom.” Henrietta blushed and scratched her head a little. “I was afraid you might’ve been confused and went somewhere and got hurt.” She looked at him with no hatred or anger in her eyes. She really had just been worried. He had been confused too, if she remembered correctly.
((I took ACT. I don’t know too much about SAT. We’re required to take ACT around this area. :/))
Henrietta Braun was technically a junior in high school, though she hadn’t done too much as of late. She had been following a curriculum she had found and had been gradually learning things. Unfortunately, it was getting to the point that she needed to buckle down more. There were so many more exciting things to do, but studying was a necessary evil especially when it came to SATs. The brunette had sighed and gathered up a pile of things, including many books, notebooks, pencils, a ruler, a protractor, and a calculator. Grabbing a backpack, the girl started to tuck the things away. Once everything was inside, she swung it over one shoulder and onto her back. The weight of all the things almost made her tip over, but she regained her balance and set off on a magical journey of learning.
Well, maybe not learning yet, but a magical journey of trying to get to the library so she wouldn’t get distracted with other things. If there were other options open to her besides schoolwork, she would undoubtedly take them. She climbed a flight of stairs breathlessly and stopped outside the door to the library. Henri had only gone to the library thus far to check out books for recreational reading, not actually to try to study or check out books for an education, though they say reading at all is supposed to make you smarter. Whereas that was of some comfort, it wasn’t enough to promise a passing grade on any test or the SATs. Especially the SATs.
With a heavy heart, the brunette let out a small sigh and pushed the door open. She walked through the room, trying to decide where to sit. Henrietta had almost decided on a table far off from any others, when she noticed a boy sitting at a table who seemed to be studying. He said something about Romans. It was Locke. She blinked her blue eyes in surprise and walked a little closer to his table. Dropping her bag on an empty chair on the opposite side of the table from Locke, she gave him a slight smile. “I see you’re studying too. I promise I won’t make much noise, so can I sit here? I just feel odd sitting by myself if there’s already someone in here.” She hoped he would be okay with it, but wasn’t sure. If didn’t want to be distracted and he was worried about it, she could swear up and down that she really would be quiet. Of course, she did want to talk to him some. They hadn’t gotten to talk much last time they met and she was curious as to how everything was, but if he was in need of quiet, she could handle that. After all, the girl had been very quiet most of her life.
The defense teacher sighed and Henrietta glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. It wasn’t the kind of sigh that would make her feel bad, it sounded like the sigh of someone you would be close to. Of one that came from someone who was looked to for answers. The brunette listened to him as he told her a little more. It wasn’t much more, but she hadn’t expected many answers. Mr. Stein seemed more like the type to make you look for your own answers. She wondered if he had had to figure out everything for himself. Maybe he had never had anyone to look up to. The thought of that made Henri a bit sad and figured that was why he was so quiet and seemed like he was afraid to express his emotions. Of course she wasn’t sure if he didn’t express his emotions, or if he just didn’t have emotions, but it seemed unlikely that he wouldn’t have feelings of some kind. To the girl, it was more like he just didn’t feel comfortable with that kind of stuff.
He said she wouldn’t like his mutation. She raised an eyebrow. She wasn’t sure how he could know that, but it must’ve been something dangerous if he could assume that and seem so confident. Henri couldn’t imagine having a mutation that could cause serious damage and not even on purpose. At least, she figured it wasn’t a type of pain or damage that he did purposely. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so insistent that she would dislike his ability. It seemed like he didn’t like it either. She thought that was a bit upsetting, but wouldn’t push the subject if it was something touchy to him. She let it drop.
Henrietta turned her head completely toward her teacher to show she was listening. Her blue eyes opened and closed slowly, blinking in time with her every breath. When he said they weren’t trying to spite her, she looked down, embarrassed that she had hinted at something like that. She wanted to trust them. She wanted to feel like she belonged somewhere. There was the argument that she fit in at the Mansion, but it wasn’t quite the same thing. She loved it there and most of the mutants were really nice, but X-Men didn’t seem like something she could do. Here, at the Kabal, she was meant to do Humanitarian work. Hopefully, that would mean she wouldn’t have to be violent. It seemed like the X-Men used violence a lot. Even if it were for ‘the right’ reasons, Henri didn’t want to do that. She didn’t want her life to always be fighting. Fighting scared her and that was why she had never spoken at her old school. You couldn’t fight with anyone if you never talked.
The brunette shook her head slightly as she tried to understand Mr. Stein’s simile. Welcome as a foreign soldier at your dinner table? Her brows furrowed together in thought. She understood the gist of what he was saying, but it was worded so oddly. At least he had assured her that he knew what she was asking. That was nice of him, she thought. Henrietta quirked her lips to the side as she pondered what he said once more. “Do you mean you’re going to have questions for me? Questions I’m going to have to answer?” She sighed with disappointment. Quietly she added, “..but I’m the one with so many questions. I don’t know how I can answer someone else’s. Especially someone who has been around about twice as long as me
((It’s cool, Locke. I’ll be fine. I had fun too, we’ll have to do it again sometime.))
The girl-turned-ragdoll tilted her head when the man pointed out that her face was chipping. Her pale hand came to her cheek and tried to feel for what he had told her about. Something felt kind of flakey, so she pulled her hand back to look at it. There was paint on it. Her brows furrowed together in confusion. She had never heard of a ragdoll losing its face before. “Hmmm. I know that limbs fall off sometimes, but I never thought my face could do that. It’s unexpected and a bit puzzling.”
The man with the pig mask told ‘Sally’ to hide and he walked off. She frowned, wondering where he was going and why she couldn’t come with, but he scared her a bit so she would do as he suggested. As she turned to search for somewhere to go, her long, brown hair whipped around behind her. The doll spotted something that looked like a bathroom building. It was small, but looked big enough to hide in. Maybe she could lock herself in and wait for whatever was going on to pass.
Whatever was going on, part of Henrietta knew something was wrong. It felt like she was forgetting something. She also didn’t feel like she could be a ragdoll, but it was all she had to go on, so it would have to do. Sighing, the confused girl began to make her way towards the bathroom. She really hoped there was no one in there because all the people were acting strangely, and she wasn’t sure how they would react.
Slowly, the brunette began to creep towards the small building. Her eyes moved back and forth rapidly. When she was in sprinting distance of the bathroom, she took off running. She made it to the door and saw the men’s sign, but didn’t care. The girl just didn’t want to be out in the open anymore. As soon as she opened the door and stepped in, she pushed it shut behind her and locked it. Next, she made sure there was no one in with her. Finally, she crawled into one of the stalls and locked that door behind her.
Twyla apologized for crying in front of them. Henrietta let out a small snort. “That’s bull. You don’t have to apologize for having feelings and expressing them. If you can’t show them in front of us, who can you show them to?” She gave her friend a small smile. The woman was a bit sad that Twyla felt uncomfortable showing her emotions. Henri didn’t really take it personally; her friend was always a bit secretive when it came to her sadness, though it did still sting a little. The brunette usually wasn’t too afraid to tell people how she felt, even if she still did avoid the subject of her family. That was one thing she wouldn’t talk about. Her mother.
Gawain told Henrietta it was a deal. He seemed pretty serious about hunting down Kurt, but the brunette hadn’t been completely serious. Part of her was, but having a child meant she have to avoid doing jail time. The last thing she wanted for Murielle was a broken family like she had. It had been hard and caused her a lot of heartache and grief, so purposely doing that to her daughter was out of the question. The brunette leaned back in her chair and let out a small sigh. “If Van ever did anything to hurt me, I don’t know what I’d do, especially since we have a daughter together. I think bringing a child into something like that makes everything worse. You know?”
Her eyebrow rose at Gawain’s mention of the program in the Danger Room. “Hmm…Sounds like something you’ve had for a while. I wonder why.” She gave the man a smirk and chuckled quietly to herself. Henri guessed during this whole talk that Gawain was imagining himself with Twyla and what would’ve happened if they had never broken up. She felt a little bad for him, since he had been so crazy about the woman with the pink streak in her hair. At the same time, she understood that Twyla wanted a life beyond the one that they had together. It was complicated.
Mr. Stein told Henrietta she was panicking and her mouth instantly closed. She brunette blinked and looked down at her hands. For her, that wasn’t really panicking, but she didn’t want to argue. Her version of panicking was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Either way, she knew he was right. If she couldn’t handle hearing about what must be his mutation, there was no way she’d be able to handle a serious situation. Then again, Henri had been through a few hard times and had to protect her friends from danger, so she could kind of keep a level head. Of course, that kind of depended on the situation.
She brought her head up to look at her teacher. The girl nodded as she listened to him. He was telling her that her fists and legs were not the most dangerous weapons. “I understand what you’re telling me and I also understand that panicking doesn’t help. I just….I’m just interested in how come you look so young. Not that 30 is old, but you don’t look quite that age. Though I’m guessing it’s your mutation.” The brunette smiled slightly. “I’m going to assume that that’s a safe guess.”
Henrietta’s tightened her fists that were lying on her lap. “There’s just so much I don’t know and being young doesn’t necessarily help with that. So many people don’t think I can handle information because I’m only 17, but obviously I was old enough to send away from home. So how come I’m not old enough to know more about the Kabal or anything about my father or..” She trailed off as she felt her eyes start to sting. Henri sensed tears were not far off.
Oh no..Not right now.The brunette went silent as she worked on getting her emotions under control. She was lucky enough to stop the tears from flowing in front of her emotionless teacher. Henrietta’s blue eyes met Mr. Stein’s blue eyes. “I think you’re telling me knowledge is the most dangerous weapon. I don’t feel like I have enough to be considered a threat, or whatever I’m supposed to be.” She sighed, frustrated that it felt so difficult to get her point across. “Am I making any sense whatsoever?” It was nice having Mr. Stein to talk to, in a way. He didn’t seem to judge her; he just took what she said in, and then gave her a reply. He attempted to answer her questions, or gave him a way to answer them herself.
The man that was standing beside ‘Sally’ put a pig mask on. She narrowed her eyes slightly and the paint on her face cracked. Some of her real skin color shone through and her blue eyes watched the man as he spoke. He said humans weren’t weird, just unaware. Henri shrugged in a kind-of childish way and tilted her head. “Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean they’re any easier to understand. When I first came to, everyone was staring at the sky. I feel like I’ve forgotten something.” Her head still stayed at an angle.
“Do you? Do you feel like something is missing from your mind? It’s like I’m missing some of my stuffing.” She brought her pointer finger up to her head and poked the right side of her head. “Or maybe I was put together wrong.”
