The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Henrietta had been longing for warm weather and was annoyed that it kept fluctuating. She was supposed to be able to frolic in the flowers in some short, cute dress. Instead, here she was wearing a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a light jacket over it in the middle of a bunch of concrete. None of this was how her mind’s eye always pictured spring. Spring was supposed to be the opening for summer! Summer was the season that almost all longed for. Summer was the season that Henri had always loved most. Back in Illinois, the brunette had loved summer because it made it much simpler for her to isolate herself away from everyone else. She had hated her classmates, or rather, they had hated her.
What had brought the moping girl out of her Bedroom of Solitude was the fact that her mood had kept getting worse in the small space. At this point, Henrietta figured that being grumpy in and out of the Mansion wouldn’t make much of a difference. In fact, she was already starting to feel less irritated as she walked past a jungle of apartment and other types of buildings.
Her dark brown hair was up in a ponytail and bounced with every step she took. She was smiling slightly now and her blue eyes took in her surroundings. Sure, New York wasn’t the most beautiful of places, but it sure had a lot of stuff to do. Henrietta was bored sometimes, which was to be expected considering how short her attention span could be at times. For the most part however, Henri was usually entertained. That, and she had made so many friends. And a boyfriend. She had never had a boyfriend until she came to New York. She had never even been asked on a date before New York because she was so shy. Henrietta had really came out of her shell.
Apartment building after apartment building were past until she saw someone familiar come out of one. “Chris?!” The brunette grinned and ran the rest of the way toward him. “I didn’t know you had an apartment!” She looked up at the tall building and then back at the boy. “I didn’t even know you left the Mansion.” A skeptical look crept onto her face and an eyebrow raised in question. As if a storm cloud had passed across her face, she grinned again. “So how’s life here? I’m going to miss you at the Mansion, but I guess now I know where you live and can always visit.”
I have to think on it a little, but as soon as somethings dawns on me, I will let you know. Thank you! I guess I should've thought about it more. I'm sorry.
The brunette glanced at Lenna's face and recognized the smile. She could relate, or at least understand, that Henrietta was starting to think for herself. The girl was realizing that she didt have to be in the Kabal. Actually, she didn'tnhave to be in the X-Mem either, although the X-Men suited it her much more for the time being.
Henri smiled back at the woman who had helped her through a few things now. She wondered if Lenna's knew how much all of her help had meant to her, but sensed that Lenna wasn't a very emotional person. She was't quite sure what to do, but Henrietta decided to tell her anyway.
"Um, Lenna? Thank you. I appreciate you helping me so much. You're a good person and I'm glad I got to meet you." The girl dug around in her pocket and pulled out the cell phone Slate had given her. "Could you tell him thanks anyway?"
An apology was nice. It was very appreciated and the brunette smiled. When the woman added that Henrietta may fit in better with the X-Men, she nodded. "I appreciate what you're saying and I'm glad you're trying to help me. You're probably right about me being with the X-Men instead of the Kabal."
The girl tucked a strand of hair behind her ear that had started to get in her face. "I guess I'm just not sure what to do with myself. Almost all my friends are trying to become X-Men if they haven't already. I feel angry so much of the time when I think about how so many people would hate me if they knew I had a mutation."
Her gaze slid to the ground and she shrugged. "I suppose it doesn't really matter, huh?"
"I know this isn't a game, Lenna. I never thought it was." Her gaze was stern and she was completely composed. It was obvious that her teacher seemed fed-up or something along those lines. It made Henrietta a little angry. Didn't she understand the girl at all?
When Lenna said they couldn't train at Mondragon labs, she almost questioned it. The brunette thought better of it however and jut kept her mouth closed. Part of it was so she didn't say anything, and part of it was because she was a little angry.
Her tone was respectful when she finally spoke up. "Whatever you think is best..."
Hey MROers, I'm sorry I've been gone lately. I'm having some health problems and depression heaped on top of it. It's hard to get myself to post when I don't even feel like doing anything. I miss MRO and I will be back. I'm not exactly sure when, so please bear with me.
I had a seizure at 2 in the morning Monday. This has never happened before and so we'll be exploring why it may have happened. I'll keep you all updated.
This affects/ has affected Deirdra Sykes and Henrietta Braun.
Lenna looked calm, but didn't seem fond of the teen's emotional outburst. The brunette closed her eyes and clenched her fists while taking a few deep breaths. She didn't want to have a fit in front of such a strong, grown woman. It wouldn't leave a good impression of her and she really wanted Lenna to like her. She wasn't sure why, but she wanted someone to be proud of her.
"I-I'm sorry." Her eyes opened and she put a serious expression on her face. "I'm fine. I'm just learning to deal with some stuff and it's a little difficult." She glanced away for a second before smiling and shaking her head. "There's not much to talk about, but I still want to learn to defend myself. That is, if you're still willing to teach me."
Twyla seemed really stressed, but she went to help Maya so Henrietta decided she’d ask more about it later. Besides, it was nice seeing Maya and Twyla together again. A soft smile spread onto the woman’s face as she shut her blue eyes and thought about when they were all teenagers together at the Mansion. All of the things they had been through had made them who they are now. Some things were a group effort to get though. The Kabal drifted into her mind and she frowned. She still wasn’t sure what she had been thinking, but it didn’t matter now.
Remembering that her friend gave her permission to break into the wine, her eyes flashed open and she wore a huge grin. Henri hummed as she made her way to the wine glasses and started pouring. There were about six ready for immediate consumption. She took one in each hand and danced toward where Maya and Twyla had gone.
The brunette took a large swig out of the glass in her right hand and made an ‘ahhh’ noise. She reached her friends and smiled. “I have wine! There’s more on the counter, but I thought it seemed like Twy needed some pronto!” She glanced down at the one in her right hand and laughed a little. “Maya, you could have this one if you wanted, but I took a drink out of it. Of course, I could always just get you a new one. I only share so much. I did grow up an only child after all.” Henrietta winked. Setting the glass from her left hand onto the counter, she glaned at her frien's reflection.
She was fixing her make-up. She must’ve been crying. Henri smiled into the mirror so Twyla could see it. “I’ll do whatever I can to help, okay? I hate seeing you so stressed out. It’ll be fine. It’s your own house, d*mn it. You don’t need this crap.” She sipped at her wine again and took in her surroundings. “Your apartment’s so beautiful, Twy. My house always seems so messy, especially compared to this.” She laughed and leaned in the doorway.
"I..I'm sorry." Her eyes were trained back on the ground. She had forgotten about Amber and her's discussions. Did that mean she wasn't allowed to tell any of her other friends? Or maybe it wouldn't be a problem if they never told anyone else. How was she supposed to keep secrets from the people you aren't supposed to keep secrets from? Her eyes started to sting a little and her gaze fell back onto her teacher.
"What can't people know about? I have nothing to tell! I don't know much myself, so what is so bad about the Kabal that they can't know?" Her eyes were narrowed slightly in suspicion and she no longer felt embarrassed, just a little angry. "I wanted to help people, so I thought I'd give the Kabal a shot. I just want to feel like I'm not useless and like somebody wants me!"
So the truth was out. She wanted someone to accept her and need her. She wanted to feel like she wasn't some freak who's own family didn't want her. Henrietta shook her head and took a deep breath. "Again, I'm sorry. Forget I said anything." Her blue eyes focused on something farther away now. Something to make her feel like she wasn't going to cry.
Henrietta felt nervous all of a sudden. Lenna looked upset, or maybe just stern. Whatever the look, it made Henri’s stomach flip. She nodded her head when asked if there was someplace private they could go. “I think there’s an alley around the corner, or I don’t know. I don’t know many places where we can be alone. I-“ Her blue eyes looked to the ground. What was going to happen? Had she done something wrong? Her mind raced as she stared at a chunk of snow lying on the sidewalk.
“Follow me.” The brunette began walking towards a park. There wasn’t really anyone there, considering it was so cold. When she arrived near a park bench, she nervously glanced at her female teacher. “So, what’s up? You look pensive. Are you upset with me over something?”
The brunette was feeling a bit sad about not having seen her boyfriend for a while, now that she was thinking about him. She jumped when she heard her name and instantly looked at the person it had come from. “Oh.” It wasn’t a very surprised sounding ‘oh’, just one that meant she was taken a little off guard. “Hey, Lenna. It’s good to see you. I was just bored and out walking when I found these pretty dresses.” She glanced over her shoulder at the beautiful pieces hanging in the window.
When she turned around again and made eye contact with her female teacher, her face had a red tint to it. She was blushing slightly. For some reason, she felt all girly and dumb and was embarrassed she was showing this day-dreamy side of herself to the person who was teaching her self-defense.
A change of topic was in order. “Uhh, so, what bring you out and about? And, if you don’t mind my asking, when are we going to practice again?”
Henrietta was sitting by herself in the dining room, reading. Her arm was wrapped up in bandages from when she had tried protecting a girl that was being harassed by a couple of male mutants. That day, the brunette had also learned of a new ability she had somehow obtained. Her hair could grow at least 4 or 5 feet. She hadn’t really had enough time to inspect the mutation, but she had gathered some information from the brief encounter with the two men.
It was obvious that this new power came into being when she was frightened and hurt. A man with spiked-tentacles had grabbed onto her upper arm. Not only was Henri afraid that she was going to be killed, she was also afraid of all the blood that had began to run down her arm at the time. One of her biggest fears was and still is blood. Large amounts of it had a way of making the young lady cringe and get light-headed.
Anyway, at this moment, she was reading a book she had found in the library. As she began to flip a page, something flew through the window, causing glass to shatter. Henrietta glanced up in surprise, only to get smacked in the forehead with something hard and decently heavy for such a small thing. From the impact, the girl leaned back in her chair and then fell off the other side.
The brunette was now lying on the floor with a throbbing in her temple and a sore back. Unfortunately, the floor hadn’t been as comfortable as Henri had hoped. Blinking her eyes rapidly, she slowly sat up. Gingerly touching her fingers to her forehead, she could feel a small amount of blood pooling where the rock had hit. That wasn’t bad. Small amounts were easy for her to deal with, especially if she couldn’t see them.
