The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"I so wouldn't be in your hairdresser's place…Sounds three shades of cool, though."
Henrietta grinned. “Thanks. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, myself.” Some of her hair rose into the air and she made it wave. After she did so, she laughed. “Sometimes it does that without me wanting it to, but luckily I do get the best of it sometimes.”
>>"There are a few advantages. I know a lot about being both a guy 'n' a gal. S'times it comes in handy...”A pause. "But shiftin's not my main power. I can walk into mirrors, ya see."
Rapunzel smirked about the first part. It made her want to giggle. Partly because she was still a little sleepy, and partly because she wondered what it would be like to understand boys as well. The mirror part caught her interest. “Walk into them? Wow. That seems like it would be cool. Can you end up in different places with mirrors then?”
>>"Wanna go back to the livin' room? It's more comfy there."
Henri smiled. “Sure. I’d love to.” Before making her way back to the living room, she picked up both of their cups and rinsed them out. She didn’t dry them, but set them upside down on a towel. Embarrassed by her tidiness, she glanced at Maya. She could feel that her cheeks were flushed. “Sorry.”
>>"Noel." She held her hand out as if to have Henri shake it. “I'm an agent of the state... and I can taste lies."
Smiling, Henrietta gripped Noel’s hand and shook it warmly. “Nice to meet you, Noel. That’s a very pretty name, by the way.” As soon as she heard someone’s name and she liked it, she would compliment it almost instantly. It depended on the situation though. Sometimes while in the middle of talking about something else, she wouldn’t get the chance, but the opportunity arose this time and she took it.
>>"You are no bother at all. How could you be? I see you aren't used to people stating what is so clearly evident to myself. Dearheart, there is no reason to be embarrassed. I merely point out the truth."
Henrietta smiled. He seemed genuinely sweet. He didn’t strike her as a whackadoodle, but of course she couldn’t be sure. She didn’t know Noel either, though. Her mother would be freaking out right now either way. She was talking to strangers. For some reason, Henri hadn’t been as scared as she usually would’ve been. Maybe it was because she’d seen Juka around and they were both from the Mansion.
Juka had laughed at what Noel said. Henri was a little relieved that he hadn’t taken it personally. At least he isn’t angry, she thought. Trying to take something positive out of the situation, she smiled. “It really was nice to meet both of you. I enjoy meeting new people and hope that maybe we can be friends.” Next, to try to smooth everything over, she asked both people the same question. “How about we all shop together?”
“What can I do with my hair? Well, there’s being able to lift 60-70lbs, it’s very hard to cut, it moves like extra appendages, and it’s getting to the point where it’ll automatically block attacks for me.” Henrietta stopped and went over the list in her head. She thought that was everything. Lifting the cup to her mouth, she took another small sip of the bland tea. She hadn’t put anything in it. Plain tea didn’t bother her as much as black coffee. That was always way too strong tasting.
Setting the cup back on the table, she looked at Maya. “So what kind of advantages are there to the shifting?” Rapunzel wondered if it was more trouble than anything. It seemed like it would be a bit odd and confusing for the person who was shifting.
>>"Well... when I arrived in NYC I kinda... ran into this guy, 'kay? His name is Rupert, and he's a real jerk. After threatenin' to blow out my brains, he... turned out to be a big softie, and suggested very politely I dragged my ass over to a school where they accept freaks like me. That was a couple o' months ago. So I kinda wandered around, meetin' people, like Twyla..." Maya had a funny smile after she mentioned Twyla. "...an' all I heard was Mansion this 'n' Mansion that. So I decided to check it out, and..." A dramatic pause. “Here I am. That’s the story in a nutshell.”
The brunette listened as the girl told her mini-version of her story. The girl spoke with such affection about Twyla that she couldn’t help but smirk. Did both Gawain and Maya have a crush on her new, blonde friend? Henri smiled at Maya. She had a feeling they did. Both Gawain and Maya seemed to be very nice people. Twyla was lucky. She wondered if the other girl new about these feelings. Either way, Henrietta found it cute.
Pulling herself out of her thoughts, Henri took a drink of her tea. “At least you’ve made lots of new friends,” she said after she set the cup down. “Friends are always good to make and have.”
Was this guy bothering her? No, she didn’t think so. Henri was a little startled, but didn’t feel bothered. She really wasn’t sure what the correct feeling was. She also wasn’t sure if she should be standing in the middle of the sidewalk walking to strangers, but on the other hand, she didn’t feel threatened by either person. Well, a little by the girl, but only because she was saying whatever came into her mind, or so it seemed.
“Uhh, no, I think I’m okay.” She glanced at the man in the dress and then back at the girl. “I’m Henrietta. What’s your name?” The girl had been looking around. Henri wasn’t sure what she was looking for, but the she seemed to be inspecting her lack of jacket. She was wearing a very large, warm sweater. Rapunzel hadn’t felt any coldness.
>>"A pleasure to meet you my darling Henri. I am Juka Miami and I would be honoured if you would accept me as your knight in shining armour to protect you from the many perils of this city and ensure success in whatever you have come to this city for."
Turning back to Juka, she smiled. “I don’t want to be a bother to you.” Henrietta had seen the man around and about in places, but she didn’t personally know him. She was afraid that something bad might happen. It wasn’t that she was scared of him, just weary.
Juka now began to talk to the mystery girl. He implied that the girl was jealous of her. Henrietta felt her cheeks turn red. She was slightly embarrassed, partially because she thought that this other girl had no reason to be jealous of her. She was pretty and seemed very independent. What was there to be jealous of?
>>"Seattle for me. Dad was gone before I was born, so it was just Mom 'n' me. She's a mutant... a shifter like me, she just does it waay better. She went missin' couple of years ago. I'm still lookin' for her."
Henrietta listened intently to the girl. “My mom isn’t a mutant, but sometimes I wonder if my dad was. I’m sure you’ll get better. Practice makes perfect, right?” The brunette smiled at Maya and then frowned. “I’m sorry about your mother. I hope you find her, but then, I’m sure you will.” Both Gawain and Maya seemed like determined, brave people. Henri was sure they’d be fine.
>> ”So. How did you end up here?”
“Well, it was my mom’s idea. She thought it would be best to be around people like me. My school said they didn’t want me there anymore incase I hurt someone.” Henrietta shrugged slightly. “My mom was glad to send me here, I think. Oh well, I guess. She just wasn’t sure what to do with me.” She could understand that to an extent, but it still hurt. “How about you? How did you end up here?”
Henrietta felt a bit bad when she heard the girl say that people had thought she was possessed. People could be so mean. Susan was right; she did know how that was. When her power was discovered at the local salon, everyone began to scream and panic, including her mother. As soon as it happened, almost the whole town became aware of ‘the freakish salon incident’. Henri’s so called friends refused to speak to her and the school didn’t want her there anymore. In case she hurt someone, was what they said. Turning her thoughts back to the girl, she smiled slightly. “I still think you have pretty eyes.”
>>”Your hair reminded me of Medusa.”
The brunette smiled slightly when the man with the pipe said this. “I can understand where that thought would come from.” She really could, actually. That was her first thought when it happened as well. Henri continued to listen to the man as he told where he was living. “The mansion? That’s where I’ve been staying as well.” The girl smiled. “My mom sent me there so I could keep my studies going and ‘be around my own kind’. The last part was a quote from her mother. Her ignorant mother.
Henrietta strolled around the New York streets. She was still trying to get to know the place. It was large and a bit different than her hometown of Springfield. Parts of Illinois were similar to the state of New York. It was in the sense that there were both bad and good parts. Of course, there were to most things, but Chicago was more likely to remind her of this bustling city.
It wasn’t that Henri didn’t know better, but she was too trusting. She had been walking alone a lot as of late. Maybe not the best plan for a 16-year-old girl. It didn’t occur to her that something bad could happen to her. Usually, it didn’t because she avoided danger. Her mother had always told her that if something didn’t seem right to her, she was suppose to run. Knowing now that she may be able to fend for herself, she didn’t seem as scared of roaming alone. Her hair could take on most regular thieves and whatnot.
Walking along, she looked down at the ground. She would step over the cracks in the cement. She wasn’t superstitious. Eventually, the larger steps turned into leaps. Leaps she had learned in dancing. After she made it over a line, she did a twirl. People were staring, but it didn’t bother her. She grinned. Dancing felt so freeing for the brunette. It always had and she hoped it always would. Henrietta didn’t look silly when she danced, but she was always afraid she did. She was actually quite beautiful when she would let herself be free.
A young girl on the street began to applaud when Henrietta made a sashay and a last spin. Henri laughed and smiled at the girl. “Thank you.” The girl nodded and followed what appeared to be her mother into an apartment building. They were holding hands, which brought the assumption of mother and daughter. Continuing her journey down the streets, she noticed someone sitting by himself. He didn’t look much older than her and he was grinning. He stood up.
Noticing she was out of breath and a little tired from all the dancing, she made her way over to the bench. She perched on the far end of it and leaned back. Henrietta glanced at the boy out of the corner of her eye and then looked at him. He was just standing there.
(( I noticed no one had responded to your thread and I was thinking I would give it a shot. If I have something wrong, just let me know and I'll try to fix it. ))
Henri couldn’t help but smile. “Not well. I haven’t met any guys who have really expressed much interest in me.” The brunette wasn’t completely sure what was wrong with her to the opposite sex. Maybe she wasn’t pretty enough or maybe she was too annoying. Whatever it was, she didn’t know it.
>>"Damned if I know. 'tis the first place I've spent more than one night in a row in...'bout four years. I'm searchin' for someone."
Rapunzel wasn’t sure how that would work for him/her. She supposed she’d have to find someone who loved both Maya and Gawain. That, or two somebodies would have to live with the switching and whatnot. Henri couldn’t imagine how hard it must be for them to date. It was already hard enough for most people. She was curious, but didn’t want to pry.
“Question. Did you want to know about my life when you asked that? I guess I interpreted it in a weird way.” Henrietta smiled. “Well, I come from Springfield, Illinois. My mom and I lived together in an apartment before I got here. I don’t have any brothers or sisters and my dad moved away when I was really little.”
There was tons of others things that could be said, but she wasn’t about to unload on someone she barely knew. She would wait for the girl to share and as she waited, she sipped her tea.
Picking up her cup, she stared into the tea. Her fairytale? Hmm… “It depends, if we’re talking about real life or the one based on Rapunzel, I guess.” She took a sip and then set the cup back down on to the table. “I’m sure you know the one about Rapunzel. Being rescued by having a guy scale her hair and whatnot.” Personally, she wasn’t sure what her fairytale was or would be.
Henrietta sat and thought about what the girl meant. My fairytale…”My personal fairytale would be to find some sweet, sensitive guy who loved me. Someone I could grow old with. It’d be great if I could have my dream job too. I want to be an art teacher or a pharmacist.” After saying this, she realized how random the two jobs must’ve sounded in the same sentence.
She picked up her cup and took another drink. Henri smiled at Maya. “So what about you? What’s yours?”
Henrietta listened as Twyla explained her point of view. All the words ran together, but she was still able to understand what the blonde was saying. Rapunzel nodded. “I can understand that, Twyla. I just..I’ve always loved music. I would be flattered if some guy did either for me.” She got a kind of dreamy look on her face. “I’ve never had a boyfriend or anything like that, but I would like to have one at some point.” In some aspects, it seemed like it would be awesome to have a guy, but in others, it seemed like too much work.
The brunette clapped loudly as Twyla danced around. The girl leaped out of the room when she mentioned something about socks, so Henri slid out into the hall also. When she got out there, she began to dance. She swung her hips side to side and held her arms up. Henri then swirled in a little circle. After that little move, Rapunzel shifted her feet in a semi-complicated move.
Henri couldn’t remember the last time she had had so much fun. She was happy and the sugar continued to move her. She hadn’t been so hyper in quite a while either. It felt good to be so spazzy with another girl her age. This was what it was like to have a real friend…
Henrietta felt a bit confused when the boy grabbed her hand and lead the two girls farther away. She became concerned when he collapsed against the tree. There were so many noises and she wasn't sure what she should be trying to do. The boy had told them to run. Part of the brunette liked the idea, but then she felt guilt. I can't just leave all these people. That's not fair to them. Twyla began to tell him that he was coming with if they did in fact leave, but it was a bit interrupted.
A crashing noise reached her ears. Afraid to turn and see what had made it, she swallowed hard. No matter how scared, she would have to see eventually. Slowly she turned to look at the creature. It was a "minature" version of the evil clay beast. What kind of word is miniature? Even if it's a miniature of something huge, it'll most likely be something still decently huge!
It came toward the small group, 'arms' waving. It would most likely hit Twyla first. Bile rose into her throat. "Twyla! You have to move!" Henrietta knew it wasn't that simple, but she wished it would be. Before the oppurtunity to move arose, the creature was smushed onto the blonde's face. Oh no! This isn't how this is going down! Something inside Rapunzel snapped and had decided to suck it up.
She looked down at the ground until she found what she was looking for. A rock. Picking up the little stone, she walked a little closer to the creature and threw the rock at it. Trying to scare it off, and partly out of anger and frusteration, Henri began to scream and yell at the huge thing. Intelligable words didn't come out, but a few things that sounded like swear words did. That was a rare thing for the girl, profanity. She was raised not to use it.
The rock and screaming hadn't done much except make her feel a little better, but she was not going to give up now. No way. Getting close to the clay, her hair began to flail wildly. It was cutting at the mini-large thing. It seemed to be working to an extent, so the 16-year-old continued to use her hair as a weapon. Kind of like a knife. She also dug her hands into the clay and tried to dismantle it, but her arm got stuck. Instead of panicking, Henri continued to hack away.
Henrietta had been sorting through her clothes. She had to put away the summer ones and take out the winter ones, all of that jazz. She didn't have tons to put away but some shorts and shorter skirts. The quietness of the mansion had made her nervous, so she had her cheap-o boombox going. Song came and left as the sorting progressed. Ha! Done!
She was looking proudly at her work when there was a knock on the door. Right after the knock, her door creaked open. Turning to see who it was, she saw her new blonde friend holding candy and the like. Twyla asked if she could come in. Henrietta thought that was a silly question. The answer was a yes, of course. ----- Since having candy and soda, Rapunzel got a case of the giggles. It didn't help that Twyla did too. The more one laughed, the more the other would laugh. Henri had always known laughing was contagious, but this was ridiculous. Neither of them seemed able to stop. They had been asking each other questions and now it was the brunette's turn to answer. "Okay, love letter or song?" Before answering, a few more giggles slipped out. "Hmm. I'm gonna have to go with song. If someone takes the time to make up a song that rhymes, I'll think about it. What about you?" More laughing on Henri's part.
Twyla had started dancing to one of the songs on a CD that she had brought with her. Listening to it, Henrietta could tell it was Prima J. "Oh, I love them! I like the song "Rockstar" a LOT." This song wasn't familiar to her, but she began to wiggle on the floor. The wiggling was suppose to be dancing, but she was lying on the floor. Henri figured she probably looked like a fish-out-of-water, but she wasn't concerned with it.
>>"I'm named after a goddess and a knight. Mom had a thing for mythology. But hey, Rapunzel is awesome too, and fits ya jus' fine."
Henrietta liked mythology as well. She thought it was interesting how so many different cultures would have almost the exact same myth for things. It made her wonder what was true and what wasn't. Since there were things like mutants, why couldn't other odd or so called 'fake' things be real?
Rapunzel was a name of a princess, as most people knew. It was in little kid stories and she had long hair and was stuck in a castle for most of her life. Henri was hoping that she would never get stuck in a castle, but loved the story all the same. The only thing that was similar was the long hair. Her's was no comparison to the girl's in the story, but still. It was a nickname she had gotten back home and she liked it quite well.
>>"I wasn't really in bed. An' besides, once I'm awake after shiftin', I usually can't go back to sleep. Wanna drink tea or somethin'?"
Henri couldn't help but smirk when the girl remarked about not actually being in bed. "Smarty pants." She thought a second when Maya asked her question, and realized that she wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep. It was just the way she worked and she DID want to talk to Maya. "I'd love to have some tea with you."
>>”'tis 'kay. 's not like ya're the first one to know about this.... but ya're prolly the first one to actually see it."
The look on the now-girl’s face was a cross between two expressions. Rapunzel wasn’t sure if it was a frowning or a smirking. She felt bad for them. Henrietta was probably not the first one that they wanted to see them change. They didn’t know her almost at all. She felt like she walked in on something private. Mostly because no one else had seen it, she thought.
>>"I know, ya're the girl with the hair. Nice ta meet ya. I'm..." a pause, "... Maya. Today. On other days, I'm Gawain."
When the girl, Maya, mentioned her hair, she felt a few of her strands moving about. Henrietta smiled back at the girl. She really was happy to finally know both of their names. The brunette felt a little excited. Maybe we can be friends too... Henri was still feeling a little awkward around the mansion and she would love to get to know more people. Back at school, she didn’t always seem too social, but she did enjoy having company.
“Maya…That’s a pretty name. Sometimes I wish my name sounded more interesting. Maybe I don’t like it as much because I know I’m named after my mom’s grandma.” Henrietta didn’t mind her name, but she always wished that she had one that sounded more exciting. One that, like she said, sounded more interesting. It also bothered her that had never even met the great-grandmother she was named for. How was it supposed to be special when she had only seen pictures of the woman? After leaving that track of thought to dissipate, she smiled again.
