The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Yeah, it sounded... Bonkers as #@$%, he couldn't really deny that, but Elke really didn't work in ways that made sense to many people. If you gave her a gold watch she was likely to trade it for a comic book the next day. If you did something she considered wrong in front of her, she was going to shank you. If she liked you, she wasn't going to shank you as bad.
That was hard to explain to... most people who were reasonable. She stopped in place, and stated he had a stake in things. "Well, yeah. I know her. Known her since she was... not too far off from how old she is again now. She came from a rough place, and was put through some terrible things. This is how she learned to deal with that. I know it ain't normal but it is what it is."
She asked about punishment. "Well... She would be on house arrest. Watched by people who can actually make sure she doesn't go anywhere or hurt anyone. Otherwise, she goes to Juvi... shanks a few people there, end up in prison, shanks people there, and well... I don't want that." That was a very real possibility, honestly.
"The X-Men have taken in people like her before... Turned their lives around. Turned mine around. This is another chance to do that. I know you can't see that now, but it's what we stand for. Redemption. Growth. The betterment of all. Your boy is a damned fool, but I bet he gets it."
He turned and walked toward the house in the opposite direction. "Don't follow me if you ain't on board. I don't want to have to stop you." Techincally, he would be in his right to. She was acting as a vigilante. He was an officer.
Damnit... She was set on this. She wasn't sure what she was set on, but what ever she was going to do, she was going to do it. It reminded him of him when he'd knocked on the golden doors of the sanctuary. It was an unsafe way to be. It got people hurt. It could get Elke hurt. "I agree about your friend... but in this case. Look, she was deaged. You know, like the news reports say. It took her back to a time when she was... volatile. But that don't mean she's gonna stay like that. She grew past that before, and she can do it again."
He frowned a bit as he looked about... They weren't far from the house. "Listen to me... If she wanted him dead, he would be dead... I know enough about her to know that. She stabbed him with a pocket knife. She has bigger knives. Used to be her way of escaping a conversation she didn't want to be in. The old shank and run, she called it." Did he sound... fond?
"Got me a couple times back then. Uh, but she eh, grew out of it." He wasn't helping his case, was he?
He grimaced a little as they neared the next intersection. "Right." It wasn't right. It was left. He needed to sort this out before they actually ran into Elke... Maybe he could ditch her and get there first?
"Why d'ya think I'm here, eh? I'm here to get her. Bring her back to the mansion. Make sure everyone is safe. Including her."
She was grumpy. Fair. Her friend had been stabbed. He would be, too. This was different, though. This was a child that had spent most of her life being dragged down the wrong path, disappointed again and again by way of neglect and avoidance. She just needed the right guide. He knew that. He'd done it, for christ sake. And here he was again. Older. Life even more hectic. Preparing to do it all over again if he needed to.
He wasn't going to let this young woman get in the way of that. "Would your friend want that? Or would he want to give her a fighting chance at a normal life?" He made his way behind her, having trouble keeping up due to the hobble. She was fast... and he could feel her... blinking out of existence. Carefully dropping the physicality of body parts as people passed, but keeping something solid the whole time.
It was strange, but it was starting to make sense. She could go incorporeal, but not her whole body at a time... Interesting. "She needs help, not a prison cell. I am going to give her that help. Besides... I'm pretty sure she's too much for you to handle."
Stabbed her best friend. Oh for crying out- Wait, he knew who she'd stabbed. Had she stabbed more than one person? Was she just out here prison shanking people? No... That would be harder to hush up, like Doc Prof had.
She was best friends with goodie two shoes tallboy boyscout guy? Wow. She was leaving. What an ass. Hadn't he just said she wasn't going anywhere? Wait, he'd said until she told him... still! You don't just walk away from a conversation. He grump faced, and nodded to the barista, tossing a dollar in the tip jar before walking out after her. He knew the house the man had been talking about... people had been caught for posession outside of it many times before. Wasn't a good part of the neighborhood.
"Where you goin, kid... It's to the left." Probably should have just let her walk off in the wrong direction, but he was seriously confused about her as this point. "What you thinkin you're gonna do when you find her, huh?" Maybe he would have to stop her. Let's hope it didn't come to that. There was time to talk her down, though, if she was planning anything nasty.
"I'm going to be bringing her in... She's a student. I can't have you hurting her."
"Hold up." His coffee was ready. That hardly mattered. He'd sat and watched as a familiar face walked in, and started describing his daughter to the barista. What. The. @#$%. She was investigating, and she was getting answers. He hadn't even had his #@$%ing coffee yet. He would have been impressed if it wasn't this particular student asking around.
"You ain't goin a damn place." He saddled on up to the counter, and grabbed his coffee... A shot in the dark. The X-Man stared at her with tired eyes and completed the thought. "Until you tell me why you are looking for that girl..."
He tested his coffee, it was too hot. Damn. He was going to need it to cool down real quick for this conversation. It was good that he'd gotten that information without having to put effort into it, though. Now, to find out why she was here. Had Elke stolen from her? A student at the school? What were the odds? Well, in his world, they weren't actually too bad. The universe seemd obsessed with ruining his day, after all.

He got the call... Another one. Elke had been a busy girl. This time the call came from Doc Prof of all people. She'd been spotted down town trying to enact a sort of social justice. A student, that goodie two-shoes type kid that wanted to be one of the X-Men had been F#$%ING STABBED by her. That's right. Shanked in the kidney. There she was, that was the kid he knew. "F$%^s sake..." He muttered as he stepped out of his car.
He'd made his way to the business district that the girl had last been spotted in after rushing to secure Colin for Babysitting, and learning everything he could from the good doctor. He'd seen the whole thing. They'd stumbled on some sorta mob operation, and taken it down together, before the oaf of a kid turned his back on her. What an idiot.
The older Mutant sighed and rubbed a hand across his recently shaven stubble before taking a good look around. It wasn't like she'd just be running about willy nilly. She was smarter than that. He would have to get some elevation... Spy her out. It was going to be a long night. He sighed, and spied a coffee shop. Better start there. Not for any good reason, he just needed some @#$%ing coffee.
Yup... This sorta stuff was inane as ever. People were everywhere, chatting vapidly about their achievments and charitable acts as if they were merit badges on a vest. He considered having a drink to ease the annoyance he felt, but decided against it. Instead, he opted to case security.
There were cameras, of course, which made everything more difficult... Guards posted about at entrances. Who ever was in charge was no amateur... Probably a hired outfit. Maybe he could explore that, see if he had any links with who they hired out to. He also noted who they were paying attention to most, as well... The blonde woman talking to another not too far off. A VIP?
As he scanned security, his thoughts were interupted when his eyes landed on a certain escort. A young man walking with a woman with a camera. He kept his face forward as his eyes tracked the man... That... was a familiar face. How could he forget it? It wasn't too long ago that he was locked in fierce battle with him in a bowling alley.
The X-Men veteran gritted his teeth as he followed the path they were headed toward... The blonde lady? He needed to catch their conversation.
He started to stand when his eyes caught something else. A snake. Many snakes. Attached to a woman. His heart jumped out of its chest as he spied a certain gorgon looking about at auction items. @#$%, really? Right now? He looked about, unsure of what to do with that... Of course she would be at a charity event. That was her thing, now, right? It was fitting for her, but @#$%, why now?
He stood with suddenly shaky legs, and headed toward the bar, maneuvering himself into a position where he could sit with his back to the Texas trunks toting killer and his escort as they approached the important blonde and her conversation partner. He had to avoid personal conflicts of interest. Finding out more about Haven was the goal, here, and now that he'd spotted that assassin, he knew for sure something was going on.

Parties. Saphirus was not fond of them. He was more of a dive bar, drink with a couple of friends kinda guy. So, a social event filled with minglers and people of influence wasn't exactly his cup. Why was he at said social event, then? Well, it was an easy event to get into, and he'd been meaning to lake a peek at Haven ever since the incident at the bowling alley.
Why had they wanted to attack this place? It was known for it's charitable acts toward mutant kind. Could it be as simple as that? Maybe.
As far as the hot tub theme went, he was also not interested, so he would look like a flamingo in a mud pit among the swim wear toting teenagers in his full X-Men regalia. He'd been keeping an eye out for opportunities to sneak into the offices or something to snoop around, but it turned out a full decked out super hero was a bit of an eye catcher. Not his best call.
As he finished up yet another conversation thanking him for his service and telling him his new uniform looked great, he turned to try and find a corner to hide in near the bar. He pushed past the bar, stepping around a young woman in a cat bikini to find a place to settle and get a good vantage point to watch the rest of the room. Maybe he would see someone he would ply for information.
As he sat, his thoughts went back to the little one at home with grandpa... He felt guilty, leaning on Colin so much, especially with Shelby still missing. Jees... what a mess. And here he was looking for more trouble to get into. Brilliant.
Yup... Saph didn't like this one bit. The way he was looking around. It reminded him of Sam when he was struggling with some demons and in a rough patch... Not that they weren't all doing a little of that at any point in time back in the day.
"Did I stutter." He knew all of Sam's hiding places. He used to restock them when ever he drank the last bit. Saphrius bounced the young one on his chest a little more, recieving a finger in his nose as a response. "Let me guess... You're hiding from someone. Girls?"
He watched a lot of the security cams. Usually he minded his own business, but he'd happened to see that familiar face hitting on plenty of students. For better or for worse, Sam had always been a charismatic dude. Of course young him had a few girlfriends.
Man, if he ever reverted he was never gonna live this down.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw the man move suddenly, and he discerned the target fairly quickly, snatching up the diaper bag before it was hit. "I'm your friend... Saphirus. Known you for ten years. Well... The real you." He shrugged, suddenly wincing as a little hand pulled on his beard. "Agh! Okay, okay! Snack time." He started digging through the bag in his hand for some little crunchies.
Look, he said big knight guy. There were a thousand big knight guys. How could he know which one was Shin? Apparently he found him, though.
And he lost his coffee. The sleepy man stared down at the dropped beverage with a blank stare for a moment, before looking back up at Shin.
"WATCH WERE YER SWININ THAT DAMN THING!" Out came the fangs as the grump came out full swing. "YER A FREAKIN X-MAN! YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO CONTROL YOUR WEAPON!" He panted a few times before pausing to look around, and straighted up.
"Eh... Sorry... I'll uh... take you up on that coffee. Just. Dont hit me again with your stick." He had some memories of Shin. He'd proctored his X-Men exam, after all. Wayyyy back in the day.
Oh, and the pokemon thing. Fun fact, that Karp was alive and well, it lived in the mansion's pond with the coyfish. Resilient fish, carp.

Saphirus listened to the question quietly, crossing his arms over his chest and remaining silent for a good solid moment. Shin spoke up. He agreed with some of that his fellow X-Man said. He disagreed with a lot of it.
After Shin set down the mic, Saphirus nodded a few times, and then spoke up. "I'm not gonna say that having my abilities doesn't help me do what I do. I could point to a thousand times I would be dead if I didn't have my power. More than than, maybe. I've been shot more times than I can count at this point, y'know?" He looked down to the woman who'd asked the question from their elevated position on the stage, and studied her for a moment before looking over to Shin.
"I'm not gonna tell you to be a doctor or nurse, or help a troubled youth. I can tell you that if you plan to go into fighting crime you have to be aware of your limitations. A large part of my career nowadays is teaching people how to fight powers without powers, and I can tell you any time you do, you put yourself in incredible danger." He shifted, uncrossing his arms and placing his elbows on the table, one hand closed over the other.
"The people I teach are most often trained professionals who are well equipped, and usually in teams. Doing it alone is far more dangerous. I'm not gonna stop you tryin, but really think about if you are going to save people, or just get yourself and others hurt. Once you have that think tank, and you still want to go forward with it, make sure you are prepared. For the situations you might get into... And the consequences of your actions."
Well. That got serious. Shin had a way of saying things in a way that felt like you could give it to a politician on a flash card. Saphirus, not so much.

Saphirus was out of his element. He looked slightly uncomfortable in his little fold out chair, looking out across the crowd of people as others answered questions. He'd done a panel before, but this place was huge!
The hero looked over to Shard for a second, and then back at the crowd as someone walked up and started asking a question. He heard the name Saph, and his eyes squinted as he leaned in to see who was walking.
Wait... Awww that little punk! His jaw set as he started talking, asking if it was difficult to compare to Sam. Ohhh, what a @#$^ head! He resisted the urge to jump out from behind the table and launch himself as the petulant mini Sam, instead smacking his lips and leaning back.
"Eh, I've done plenty. My record speaks for itself, yeah? Over 1000 cases solved and criminals apprehended with the NYPD, personal credits on many of the training programs used today by SWAT tasks forces to de-escalate encounters or combat mutant abilities. Ten years of this, I think my accomplishments aren't too shabby." He shook his head and chuckled when he asked about physique, standing, and opening his arms to show off his form. Saphirus was, and had been for a while, built like a brick @#$^house, you could tell it under his clothes. "I'm not doin too bad. Sides, poor guy got turned into a 12 year old. What can you do?"
He looked over to Shin, smiling a bit. "What do you think? Feeling any of that envy, there?"

Saphirus looked up from the diaper bag as the door opened. It wasn't that girl again, was it? It had taken an hour to get the @#$^ing couch back in here alone! Wait, she didn't use doors. No, it was... Aw #@$%. Baby Sam. He shot out a surprisingly Sam sounding statement. He shrugged, and pulled a package of Trinkies from the diaper bag, opening them up as the young man started to complain about the missing beer.
"I mean, me and 19 year old girls, apparently." He sent a flat look Sam's way, remarking on his choice of people to tell about this place. How did he even know about it, anyway? Didn't people lose their memories when they became young? He did. The older mutant shook his head as he took a bite of his cream filled snack, leaning against the bar.
He felt the young man digging around with his sixth sense, and his expression hardened a little bit. "Nah, I threw out the whiskey. I don't drink the hard stuff anymore." He took another bite, and then threw the wrapper away, placing a hand on JR. instinctively.
"The hidden ones, too. Figure I'm the only one of age that knows about this place, eh?" He wore a slight smirk as he side leaned against the bar again. "Why? You wouldn't have any need for that stuff, right?"
He scowled a bit as Young Sam remarked on the smell, waving a dismissive hand. "Eh, I'll throw it out later. Got a couple diapers in there."

So... He was at a convention.
With Shin.
Shin. The person he had known for years. Except. You know. Not. Because he had been on a team with him for years, and they just sort of... Didn't hang out. It wasn't an avoidance thing. They had... Different skill sets, and stuff. Different schedules. Yeah.
Saphirus looked down to his clothed chest... No Jr. with him today. He missed the little guy already. Colin was watching him. He'd agreed to speak at this sort of panel thing a few months ago, before things all burst into flames. He couldn't exactly cancel, on account of this being his community service penalty for being involved in that bowling alley incident with the rocket launchers at this point.
He sipped his coffee. Jr. had been up all night again. He was doing this thing where he would sleep for 30 minutes, and then decide that was enough until 3am.
Saphirus was in plain clothes. He hadn't had time to prepare a costume, honestly, so it was a little less likely people would recognize him. He was poking through the con looking for his panel partner, now. Apparently they had a list of test questions or something they were supposed to use to prep. Ah, there he was!
"Hey!" The person turned. It was a Shard cosplayer. "Eh... Nevermind."
He tried another person in Shin clothes. Nope! That was a girl! Coffee break time.
Third times a charm, right? He saw a form pass in front of the booth. "Eh... Shin?"

Being a sort of strange single parent sort of thing was exhausting. The worry of not knowing where his wife was, as well as reports about her possible location, mixed with raising a child alone while working was... well, it made for the occasional need for the closest thing to silence one could get.
It was lucky, then, that he knew of a location in the mansion that was totally isolated. Only a few people knew where it was. It was a perfect place to change a stinky diaper without any interruptions. So, Saphirus had Jr. splayed out on the bartop on his pad, diaper bags and supplies spread about the place.
"Hoof!" He turned his head away from the smell for a second as he worked his magic with the baby wipes, and got to rolling up the diaper in a neat package and throwing it into the small garbage can. A would-be near miss was skillfully directed mid flight into the can. He blew on the tip of his finger, and then wrapped up Jr. once more, papoosing him once more, and walking over to the beer fridge.
He opened it to reveal a bunch of baby bottles. He'd downed the last beer yesterday and hadn't had time to restock. Plenty of room for baby stuff, though!
He gave the bottle away to the baby, and looked at his phone. Lunch time! Awesome. He got to digging in the diaper bag once more.
