The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The look on Saph's face clearly belayed he wasn't here for a chat, even with Sam's attempt to lighten the mood with pleasant conversation. Even so, he nodded when his team leader suggested he would be on his best behavior; It was a stiff and short nod. "Remember why we're here, Sam... She's dangerous."
As they moved into what appeared to be Aura's inner sanctum, he glanced about at what had to be some sort of pagan ritual; alters were placed about... He shook his head as if to deny the ridiculousness of the constructs; what could possibly motivate someone like her to slaughter people without remorse? Gods? Some sort of sick teachings?
Perhaps she'd been brainwashed by someone... All of that didn't really matter, though. It didn't matter if you had an excuse for senseless murder, it didn't make you any less guilty. His end goal today was to see Aura in jail or dead. He like the second one more.
As they walked into the room, Saphirus split off from Sam, walking slowly to the side to get a better angle of attack if things went south. He eyed the shrines as he went... Lots of effort went into them; this must be what she spent her time doing when she wasn't murdering people in horrendous ways.

"That's a ##^@&$^ lot of people."
"Steady, Caf... We can't let the lines meet. You know how many people die if we do." God bless em' both groups would likely be trying to kill them, when all the NYPD and affiliated X-men were trying to do was prevent death on both sides.
"Hope this is the worst of it; Maybe they'll remain peaceful. heh. That was hilarious. He had to admit the optimism was appreciated; it showed that at least someone was willing to hope for the best. Still, he couldn't help but respond.
"I would'n bet on it, buddy... #@%^'s about to get real." He stared forward, clenching the riot shield in his right hand as tight as he could... It would make it damn hard to cause any physical damage to him whatsoever, but with so many mutants involved, nothing was certain. The weight in his gut got greater and greater as the opposing line neared... He wasn't afraid of the anti-mutants breaking through from behind; riot police had been quelling protest lines since both concepts existed... Never before had so many mutants been involved, though; and they had been sure to put all of the mutant officers on this side; he could tell simply with a glance to the left and right... It almost shocked him how many mutants donned blue on the daily.
"Minimize deaths... Aim to disable." Even he was nervous, you could tell by how tense his voice was. As many mutants they had on their side, the wave that was finally within easy seeing distance was filled to the brim. So many eyes filled with hate... So many eyes, and he didn't blame a single set.
They were just people. People who felt wronged. How could he blame them for lashing out?
And lash out they did. Officers scattered as a fireball crashed into the ones composed lines. Rubber bullets were fired into the crowd, and it some certainly fell... More replaced them
"See you in hell mate."
"Not today... Not on my watch."
When the line finally met them, he wasn't so sure.
The world became an undecipherable mess as his sixth sense tried to make sense of it all; it felt just like the sea.
A man shaped very much like a rhino charged at him, and he smacked the sturdy being so hard he felt head over heels into the crowd, breaking his riot bat in the process. Damn.
He lashed out quickly at the next person, who appeared to have four eyes. The man slumped, and was trampled by what Saph could have sworn was a giant porcupine man. That proved to be closely accurate as a few quills spun his way, and he deflected them with his shield. He found himself doing a terrible dance as his hand grasped his trusty crowbar from his side, and spun about to smack the blunt end into an exposed leg, causing the ball of spikes to slump. An officer was in trouble, being engulfed by tentacles. Saph jumped in to beat what ever was attacking him back, and then turned to tackle a fox man who had been aiming to pounce at Cafas' exposed back.
He resorted to headbutting the man, or woman, he couldn't tell.
Details like that were lost in the chaos. You had no time to think; no time to make observations. Your enemy appeared before you, you did what you had to to render them harmless, and you moved on.
A ball of acid flew past his face, and he turned to see it smack into a riot shield, melting it as the officer tried to throw it off. He then punched a snake man in the throat, getting a long scratch down the length of his arm for his efforts.
The Judge was in a room full of dead and disabled men.
How had it happened?
Great detail could be given, with colorful embellishment and gory details, but that would just be showboating.
Suffice it to say that James was out; he had half of a pool cue sticking out of each side; He was breathing... Barely. The man with the bat was dead. He was the only one who was clearly, very dead. Apparently he could dish it out, but he couldn't take it, because it only took one good swing... The Judge wasn't the type to admit he might have cheated by adding enough energy to knock out an elephant.
He stepped over the baseball man's mess to stare down at the last man, whimpering and clutching a very broken leg. "I'll be back for you in a second. If you pray... You should start."
He then turned and walked toward the slumped woman on the floor... His heart fluttered as a strong sense of dejavu fell upon it, and nearly caused the man in metal to stumble. He stopped before her, and crouched down... She was breathing this time. Barely.
She needed a doctor... Maybe even a mutant healer. Now. He stood to head toward the phone, but something... odd caught his attention... Something... Empty, off to his left. It was like a whole part of him was missing on that side; it was hard to explain. He turned, and the sensation stayed fixed; it was a perfect bubble of area that he could not feel.
Curiosity got the better of him, and he stepped forward toward it. The next thing he knew he was on his knees.
Something was wrong! Something was very, very wrong! His skin crawled as all of the stored energy in him vented into the ground, cracking the bar room floor. He felt nothing. His sixth sense was gone; there was nothing around him; NOTHING. That thought was proven wrong when suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his back; the broken leg man had seen his moment of weakness, and lunged forward to slash at his back.
"AAAAGH!" He jumped to his feet and spun quickly, grabbing the baseball bat from the corner of the bar, and swinging it with all of his strength at the foolishly triumphant looking gentleman's head.
THOCK!
He was out... He'd swung a bat with both hands, and it actually hit hard... The panting vigilante looked down at his right hand as if it were alien. It felt.. strong... Like it could make an impact... The shock factor wore off quick, and his back reminded him it had a fairly deep laceration running across it. He gasped in pain, and stumbled forward. No... No, he was the Judge. He had no time for pain. Think. Think, Judge, think!
The man had mentioned Mutts... That meant more than one... Megan was not the only mutant here. There was someone else who needed his help. He stumbled clumsily toward the last rooms, only pausing when he saw something very useful looking behind the bar...
This would probably the the first, and only time the Judge would be seen clutching a double barrel shotgun.
There was only one unopened door. He kicked it open, aimed at the first threatening looking person, and pulled both triggers.
He clenched it tightly in his has as he stared at the man, shaking like an unhinged gate in the wind. The man hadn't let go. He squeezed tighter... He found he wasn't shaking out of rage, he was shaking because he was afraid.
Rage at the implication of that fear took over as he spoke.
"I don't know who you are... I don't know what you want... If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have... are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you... If you let her go right now, that will be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you. But if you don't..." Well, it was pretty obvious what would happen if he didn't let her go, so there was no real need to finish Liam Neeson's speech from Taken.
He took a half step forward, careful not to move suddenly. He didn't want him to loose his cool and hurt her; Just a few more steps and he could kill the man before he had a chance to react.
It was amazing how fast you moved when you were scared for someone you loved.
Saphirus had climbed and jumped off of a tall building so fast he didn't even have time to consider the many confused looks he'd gotten in the process. He was too busy flying.
A Cell phone in his hand gave him map journey directions as he hopped from building to building; He'd been at work, so he was most definitely in tights. He came to a sudden stop atop a warehouse, and stared at his phone with intense concentration, still running through nightmare scenarios in his head.
She lost her phone? No way. She'd been mugged? Maybe. Someone had kidnapped her to get to him! Oh no! If they were crazy enough to get on his bad side they had to be dangerous... Maybe.. Maybe he was too late... NO! He couldn't believe that. He would be there to defend her, damnit, it was his only real goal in life.
Oh, why did she to attract so much trouble?!
There was a roof window next to him... She was here; at the very least her phone was here. He didn't have time to worry about property damage! The woman he loved was in danger. He kicked the window out, and jumped in, ignoring the glass shards as he fell amongst them, picking up a few lacerations in the process.
He didn't care. He looked about frantically, almost immediately catching sight of a scraggly man squeezing the life out of the love of his life in what appeared to be a grisly bear hug of attempted homicide.
"YOU LET HER GO RIGHT F#@%ING NOW." He roared as he hobbled forward, his left arm tingling with energy waiting to be dispersed. One doesn't think a hobbling person could ever be menacing, but damn did he pull it off.
The thought had run through the mind of the X-man several times that morning, as he paced the barricade between two mobs of people... Saphirus reached down to the handheld radio strapped to his uniform, and spoke into it. "Check point 3 secure. For now." He could hardly hear the confirmation over the ruckus of a thousand people yelling at each other.
Some bone head had scheduled two opposing rallies in the same damned place. What's worse, it was the middle of time freaking square! The whole city's day had ground to a halt, and everyone was angry.
How could they not be? They'd seen the news this morning... Some goddam amateur reporter had a meltdown on camera, saying something about how the police officers from the Gargoyle beating had assaulted her. Bull... He'd met those people, and they were just tired officers doing their jobs. He knew how they felt, too. He'd only been policing this line for a few hours and already he was exhausted. Then again, they'd called on the X-men several times in the last week to help keep the protests under control... It was getting hard to find time to sleep.
"All units, we've been authorized to officially command the protesters to vacate the premises, Be on the lookout for any militants. let's make this nice and peaceful."
Thank god. With the large crowd of anti-mutants on one side, and the very visible mutant population on the other, the recently engaged X-man was starting to think this would go south quick... All they had to do was get everyone to go home now...
"TRAITOR"
...What?
He turned to the mutant side of the barricade, and looked into the crowd.
"F#$%ing TRAITOR! WORKING FOR THE HUMANS LIKE THE REST OF THE PIGS!"
"Oh jesus not this again..." When could he go home? He wanted to see Andrea... At least she would make this day worth it in the end.
Wait a sec... the crowd was silent... What was going on? Everyone was looking up... The display screens? He turned to see a very large presentation of what appeared to be a Viewtube video.
He saw a woman with red hair... And some police officers... Some very familiar police officers.
"Oh shit..." Yup... They started attacking her... But... He'd met them. They were just tired officers doing their jobs... He suddenly felt more tired than ever.
The video flickered off. The whole crowd was silent. Saphirus felt a weight in the bottom of his stomach that felt like it might drag him down into the core of the earth itself.
And then someone started firing teargas into the crowd.

Wow, there were a lot of details to get straight in his head before he could even fathom what was going on, here.
First off. Awkward. Why? Well, for one, he was pantless in front of a whole family of strangers, he pulled his towel tighter around his seated waist, and eyed Andrea nervously. It seemed she was just as nervous as he, though.
What was more striking than the awkward stuff was the strange stuff... When the family came in, they filed in like they'd come in a bus. Also; not one of them had a spark of recognition when they saw their pretty green family member; hell, one of the younger cousins expressed excitement that there was a mutant in the family. No one here knew her.
On top of everything, when they asked about her, her mother spat out a bold faced lie.
What the hell was going on here?
All he knew was that in a whirlwind of motion, he was sitting at a table, with Andrea's empty seat next to him, a chattering family all around him. Wow... He'd been in a lot of families, but now that he thought of it, he'd never been part of a family celebration... It might have brought warm feelings if he hadn't felt like a stranger looking in from the outside...
The seat next to him was empty; Andrea was helping her mother; He supposed that meant some talking to, as 'father' was in with them as well.
"So... Who're you?"
A cousin was talking to him; a young, scrappy looking kid with a black eye.
"uhm... I'm Saphirus... Andrea's boyfriend."
The boy blinked a few times, and then nodded. "Oh... She looks funny."
"Sergio, don't bother the man; he's got no pants." Well, there went the tiny, tiny hope of them not noticing. He turned away, thoroughly embarrassed, and listened in on another conversation across the other end of the table.
"I'm tellin you, you can't walk a damned inch out there without seeing some sorta deformed person on a poster. It's like Mutants are a fashion statement or something. Sick I tell you. Sick."
"You're preaching to the choir! Why just yesterday, I saw one of them walking hand in hand with a norm-" They noticed him listening in. "Ah-well, you know, not that inter-species relationships are bad or anything. It's just... well, you understand." Not at all, lady... not at all. He thought, barely able to hold a glare from his face... What was with these people?
The food started arriving; eating didn't seem to shut them up... It was good food, though. Lots of meat.

Saph tensed up a little bit as the conversation trended toward Andrea's hair... Not because of the controversy and calamity it's coming had brought into their life, but rather because of her mother's reaction about it. She was... Afraid. Sure, it was a little odd, and maybe dangerous given the wrong situation, but it disturbed him that they could view their daughter in such a way.
Still, at least his lack of pants wasn't on the table for discussion; The last thing he needed was for old red-face to have an aneurysm. He was snapped out of his mental bubble when Grace asked a question. "And they are... always there?" Saph opened his mouth to explain, but Peter chimed in first. "Of course they are, Grace. Those things don't just go away whenever you want them too."
Well... It wasn't exactly an elegant way to phrase it... And he would know, he was the king of foot in mouth. A release of air was all that came from his mouth, before he closed it, and sat awkwardly, as he had before.
It was about that time that Grace deemed it necessary to invite Andrea to leave the room, dooming him to sit and chat with the bundle of joy that was Peter Gordon. Yay.
"... So, you like football?" Oh, a question not about mutations! Hell yeah, he was on top of this one!
"Like, American football? Yeah, I mean, I'm more of a baseball kinda guy, but I've been known to throw around the ol' pig skin. If you're talking Soccer... Well... I'm not much of a runner. 'nother long story. Y'see, my Mu-"
"It's good to have a nice human boy looking after my daughter. I was afraid she'd run off to that filthy city and end up with some mutant boy."
There wasn't much response to that... His mouth hung open for a second, before he noticed, and closed it. He briefly considered punching the man for a lot of things at that moment, but remembered Andrea telling him to play nice. "I... Wow... Uhm... Well, New York ain't so bad... And you know... Mutants ain't so bad either." New york was his home... Was it maybe a little filthy? Sure, but did any New Yorker worth his salt get angry when an outsider said it? You betcha; that wasn't even the main issue here, though... They didn't want a mutant dating their daughter?
What the @#$^?!
"Eh... Anyway, don't you guys have some mutant blood in the family? I mean, I figured one of you guys would be visible, at least, ya know? It's pretty normal-" He was cut off by an even redder, even more sour old man.
"Listen to me, young m-" He was cut off by the door bell... And maybe Saph was saved by it?

Well, at least she'd finally decided to stay instead of running off. He could tell by the way she said his name. Still, it made him nervous... Maybe there was something about her family that he didn't know... He knew she was very conscious about her mutation.. Wait a minute! Maybe they were all visibly mutated, and she somehow thought he would... maybe point that out to them, like he sometimes had a tendency to do... I mean, how could you not inform someone how amazing it was that they had two extra arms and a nose that could easily hold a roll of quarters?!
"Okay, fine... we shall stay. But Saphirus, this is very important... you must promise me that you will be on your very best behavior."
Yuuupp, that's what it was! A smile and a slanted look her way acted to try and dismiss her concerns, "I'm always on my best behavior... Trust me, I won't poke at anyone. Promise."
He smiled as the family returned, her father clenching the child close like it was a purse in a dark alley.
"Papa, Momma, this is Saphirus. My b--.. boyfriend... These are my parents, Grace and Peter." His smile widened as she introduced him as her boyfriend, and a hand(the only good one) went to her back to comfort her. He didn't notice the reaction that provoked from her father, and before he could, her mother spoke up.
"Unfortunately, you both decided to visit on a rather busy day. The rest of the family is due to start showing up in a little while-- um, why don't you tell me about yourself, Saphirus?" That drew a bit of confusion from him; his eyebrows furrowed a little bit as he pulled a hand back to scratch the back of his head. "Sounds like perfect timing to me, right babe? But yeah, You can call me Saph... And, uh... Well, I guess this is the first time I've ever left new york city... So there's that. Also, I'm sorry, I ain't good at introductions... Um. I guess I work for the community; I'm an honorary NYPD member. I work with...-"
"What kind of name is 'Saphirus', anyway?"
"Oh... Well yeah, I guess it is a little messed, huh? It was given to me; It's kinda a long story, though. Maybe I can tell it to you later." Well, this didn't seem to be going well at all; Her mom was nervously glancing at the door every few seconds, her dad was getting redder and redder by the second, and the baby... well, the baby was just... Staring at him.
"Eh...heh... Tea... Tea is good." He reached for the cup that had been placed before him, sipped, burnt his mouth, dropped his cup in his lap, hopped up and did a dance of pain, with maybe an obscenity or two throw in for added effect as the baby clapped and laugh, and her mother jumped up to clean up the mess.
A moment later, he was sitting in the same seat, pant-less, a towel over his waist as he sat waiting for his pants to come out of the dryer... Was that her dad turning a nice violet color? Why yes it was. "So-eh... High blood pressure run in the family?"
"We... We should go soon. My mother says that they are to have the whole family over. I do not wish to interrupt them..." She grabbed his hand, and he took it, but he wasn't going anywhere. "Go? What? Why? Your family? You never told be about your family... What if I wanna meet them?" He stopped speaking when he heard the muttering.
It wasn't long before a man entered and started ranting about a hung of junk car... Saph may have reddened a little... It was all he could afford to rent; honestly, it looked a lot like the car he had at home, which stung even more. The man paused when he noticed them. "Eh... Howdy."And then, just like that, he ushered everyone but he and Andrea out into the kitchen...
What the hell was going on here? When he saw her, it was like he was seeing a goddam ghost! His mother had acted like she was walking on egg shells for christ's sake!
"... Now would be a great time for us to escape, Saph..." "Escape? What, are they gonna string us up and get with the tar and feathers? I wanna stay. I'm gonna meet your family." It was simple... He couldn't leave now...
He had plans.
Hastily made, somewhat sloppy, but definitely heartfelt plans. They involved happy people clapping because of a big announcement, and her full, extended family was more than he could ever have dreamed of.
Wow... So this was awkward... Andrea and her mother knew Greek... Of course they did, considering the whole being born and raised there, thing, but the fact that they would choose to speak it in front of him as if everyone in the room understood it... Well, it left him a little confused....
Was he supposed to be nodding? Shaking his head? Doing cartwheels while serenading them with Beatles lyrics? He opted for staying silent... And then something odd happened... He sensed the conversation heading towards them choosing to speak in Greek because not everyone in the room knew it, rather than it just being a normal thing... It started with the mom eying him for a moment, and him waving awkwardly with his one unhurt arm, and then Andrea was eying him as well... was she blushing a little bit? He was distracted when the kid was allowed down, and immediately wandered over to him.
"ick up!" Ick... Pick? Pick up? Well jesus, at least the toddler had enough decency to speak american! He looked down to his casted and tied arm, and shrugged helplessly. "Sorry, sport... Can't help you there. Maybe your sister can...-" He was pulled away from his speech as the conversation between the two seemed to have gotten a little more urgent...
Her mother motioned out the window, and his eyes followed, finding the sight of a small car pulling into the driveway. "Babe... what's goin on?" The kid still looked up at him, his arms up and nagging at his resolve... maybe he could try and pick up the kid with one arm? Oh yeah, his mom would love that...
'Saph, why did you and Andrea break up?'
'Ohh, no reason, I just dropped her toddler bother on his face, forever lowering his odds of being a molecular physicist by 80%'s all.'
Maybe he would just stick to the big stuff and let the kid beg... For instance, why did Andrea's mom almost look a little nervous?
"Why you hidin, huh? It's your home, ain't it?" He hadn't noticed her attempt to disappear around the nearest bush until he'd already reached up his non-wounded arm to knock. Saphirus eyed his green skinned girlfriend with a fond smile, which at the same time conveyed the message 'are you serious?', and waved her over.
"It ain't like I'm going in there alone... Maybe... I don't think anyone's here, babe. Lemme knock again."
Knock-Knock-Knock!
...
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Nope noon-"
He was cut off by a wailing sound in he background. "The... Heck? Is that a baby?" He looked over to Andrea, who was leaving her cover; apparently she was just as surprised as he was. "One second! Hold on!" The heavily accented Greek voice echoed through the door as the child quieted up. He heard her voice through the door, but couldn't make anything out past the first statement until it started getting closer. "Sorry, we were just taking a nap! We didn't expect you so-" The door opened, revealing a middle aged woman with brown wavy hair, and olive skin. Also, there was the obviously quite young child in her arms, staring sleepily at him. A friendly smile turned into a look of confusion. "Oh... I'm sorry... You may have the wrong house, this is the-"
"Eh, no... I think we're in the right place, right, babe?" He motioned to Andrea, and the woman leaned out to follow his hand. Her eyes slowly widened as they fell on the sight of her daughter. "Oh.... Oh dear..."

Dead.
He was most certainly dead. It had looked at first like a quite familiar scene; a passed out ne'er do well face down just outside his favorite bar; the Judge usually just gave them a kick and sent them homeward... This one didn't respond to the kick... In fact, he was a little stiff.
A quick examination found results less than typical for alcohol poisoning or anything along those lines... This was a young man, not a transient, or someone seemingly down on their luck... He didn't smell of hard alcohol... beer perhaps, but it was damned near impossible for someone his age to die of alcohol poisoning from beer alone... Another good sign was the fact that he had something clenched in his hand... He'd died rather quick; That would seem rather normal if he had some sort of wound, but the Judge saw nothing... Odd...
An armored hand reached out to try and yank what ever the young man had in his hand from its paling grasp.
Ca-chunk! "Greg, we got the mutts under control, get your a** in h-" The voice stopped short as the Judge stood and stared at it's point of origin... Mutts... A popular slang for mutants... Or just a cross breed of K-9. He wondered which the man referred to... An obvious knife wound to the man's side drew the vigilante's attention as well.
"I think we need to have a little talk."
"N-no- that's al-" "I insist... I am investigating a murder, after all... " "Wh-what?" "Is that Greg?"
The wounded man's eyes wandered to the now rather obviously dead body... "... Greg's dead?"
"Greg's dead." The man seemed distressed... Because of the stab wound, or the death of someone he was apparently familiar with? "What killed him?"
"I don't know s^@#, man." It was said with maybe a littel too much defiance... Come to think of it, the man was looking at him a little funny. "That is apparent... What killed him?"
"I said I don't know- I mean... Maybe... Um... Maybe if we go inside, we can ask the people in there." The man looked about nervously, and then stepped to the side, as if insisting the Judge went first... Well, that wasn't suspicious at all... Still, he stepped in just as well; call it hubris.
Upon walking into the room, he was greeted with a sight that surprised even him; On the floor was a very, very beat up form that he was almost sure he was familiar with, and standing around were two very surprised men... He felt a quick movement behind him; James had come up with the great idea of beating the vigilante mutant over the head with a pool cue. More on that, later.

"Wow... They get those up Quick, huh?" He stared up at the billboard, at a loss for words over the whole situation. "Cement, huh? Wow... Er... well, at least you look pretty up there... That's good, right?" He was trying to make the best of an obviously... odd situation. "So... What did they pay you?" Yup... Honestly, he wasn't rich. When he'd bought the ticket, he'd only really been thinking about how he needed to see her... How alone she must feel, taking the fall for him, and getting sent away from her new home...
Sure, he might be able to manage a while in Greece, but not without totally destroying his bank account.
"Oh, and... erm... did you tell them I was sorry for punching that guy? I didn't know they had to measure you... Guess I wasn't thinking... Long day, y'know?" He tried to chuckle after that sentance, but meekly failed. Oops.
So... now they were stranded, out on the sidewalk in the middle of a city neither of them knew... To make it worse, he hadn't even been outside of new york before, and she'd spent 90 percent of her life in a house... "Maybe... we should get a taxi?" He looked around a moment, and then reached out to hail a cab... none were driving by... "Maybe... we should use a payphone?"
