The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Skye nodded as they said they'd need more time; it happened, besides, it gave her time to get her other tables straight. She smiled as the brown-headed woman spoke to her, though she noticed her light had died down again. That was going to take some getting used to, but she gave the girl a more flirty grin. "Take your time, I'll be back in a few." This time, she walked to another nearby table, passing in front of the woman.
Again, once she was out of range, her hair turned pink again, and the flickering lights returned. She couldn't tell if it was just platonic flirting, but if it was, it was brightening her mood nonetheless. After finishing, she passed by the table again, this time flaunting her figure just a little for her admirer. Might as well have a little fun, right?
After passing out a couple of checks and taking care of a table of newcomers, she made her way back to her current favorite table.

Skye nodded, jotting down the drink orders. "Alright then, that's easy enough," she said, noting that no one was really drinking. Maybe they weren't old enough(and didn't have a fake ID like a certain young woman with color-changing hair). "I'll be back in a few with your drinks." As she turned to walk away, she noticed one of the girls give her a wink, which she gladly returned, her lips curled up into a smirk as she went to get the drinks.
Once she was several feet away, her hands lit up bright pink, and subsequently so did her hair. She blushed a little; her hair rarely turned that color while working, but then again most of the people who hit on her here were old enough to be her dad, and that girl was a lot more subtle with it. And good looking. She brought a couple at a nearby table their burgers, and then made her way back to the table of college girls, setting their drinks down and actually doing a decent job of remembering who got what.
"There you are. You all ready to order?" she asked, her Maine accent bleeding through as she spoke, her notepad ready to take their orders.
Skye was getting the hang of working at The Missing Link; the woman had to admit it was growing on her. What hadn't grown on her in the slightest was the yellow-green top that she swore glowed in the dark, coupled with those ungodly short shorts. Granted, the did have the figure for it, and the top showed off her naval piercing, but this was something more akin to what she'd sleep in. She didn't even pick up dates dressed like this.
While working, hair tended to settle on blue, though she didn't know why. She'd pegged blue for sadder emotions, but now that she had the hang of things, she wasn't here nor there; she was just doing her job with more or less an empty apathy that was sometimes interrupted by a pink or an orange when she had a nice, maybe flirty customer.
Her next table seemed to be a group of college girls, and this was obviously not their last stop of the night, judging by their attire. Her hair turned to a more friendly orange as she approached the table, the light flickering as she approached the table.
"Good evening, my name is Skye and I'll be your waitress," she said as she started to pass out menus, only to see the light emitting from her hands suddenly disappear.
She looked flabbergasted for a moment, and stood there in silence. What the hell?
"Uh, what can I get you to drink?" she attempted to roll with the punches. Blaine had told her about something called an adapted, so maybe it was that? She didn't know, but she wasn't too sure about it.
She grinned a little; the girl had to admit, her impromptu lunch partner looked pretty damn good as a ginger. "Yeah, I think so, but I get the feeling it's not that simple. I do sort of have it narrowed down to red, blue, green, and purple can result in the other effect of my power, but orange, yellow, pink, and indigo just result in the light show? And my hair's been black before. I'm not sure what exactly black does..." she looked at the chart on his phone. It looked right in some aspects, but she really couldn't be sure. If this kept up, they were going to have to buy some corkboards, yarn and some tacks after this...
She froze for a moment. Right. Food. Biting her lip, her attention turned to the menu. "Uhm...I have no clue here," she admitted, giving a nervous laugh, though the nervousness didn't override the happy peaceful indigo glow she was feeling. "What do you think?" she said, gently reaching over to help arrange some of his stuff. "Here, at this rate you're going to be wearing something," the girl teased lightly as she sort of moved the cup of water and the soup bowl slightly out of the way--well, the best she could, anyway, given the space. "Let's enjoy lunch, then we can worry about mapping out my color code," she said gently.

She noticed the slight huff; maybe she'd be able to make that up to her later. She found the prawn's arms surprisingly warm, and as strong as--if not stronger than--she'd imagined.
"This is fine," she murmured, opening her eyes a little to look into Jack's eyes. It was nice, being this close, and she felt safe there. In those nice, strong arms...carrying her like she didn't weigh anything...and she was walking at a quicker pace now that Skye was in her arms...the girl's hair and lights turned hot pink as she thought about it, but her eyes had closed again, enjoying this.
Her arms pulled to her chest, she snuggled into Jack a little, a slight murmur escaping her lips.

Okay, she definitely wasn't going crazy; his hair was changing colors. "Well, it seems to be...pretty broad of a spectrum. And iffy, but...I'm not going to turn down help figuring this thing out. I mean, I've learned to live with it, but if I learn specifics...it'll be a lot easier to prevent--or maybe cause?--the more explosive part of my mutation," she mused, noting how his own hair was hued with a very subtle violet now.
"Interesting," she murmured with a soft smile, her hair turning back to indigo as she puzzled over it. "I know orange is when I'm happy...and blue sad, red angry...but sometimes it's blue and I'm not particularly sad. Or red when I'm not angry?" she thought out loud, poking at a piece of lettuce with her fork. "I have the feeling by the time this is done we'll be in a basement decorated with wall to wall graphs and sticky notes everywhere," she said, her dry humor bleeding through.
This was turning into quite the adventure indeed, and they hadn't even really eaten yet. "So...what? We start toying with each other's emotions?" she said, quirking a brow.
Skye looked away, needing to hide the sly smirk that was starting to creep its way onto her mouth. Her clever little plan was beginning to work, but it took her only a brief moment to regain her poker face as she looked back up. When it came to things like this, Skye had a way of being sneaky, but this was for a good cause--well, maybe. She detected a hint--or maybe a lot--of nervousness, shyness even. But Jack also seemed pretty good natured, so Skye figured to use the latter to break through the mutant-woman's shell, so to speak.
"I wouldn't mind. Not by you, anyway," she said with a soft smile that contained a little air of shyness. Maybe the fact that her hair stayed orange wouldn't give anything away; she hoped Jack hadn't learned some of the color associations. Even though she didn't have the details figured out, the more simple emotions were easy to read. If she ever played poker, she'd need a skull cap and a pair of gloves.
Jack was...surprisingly gentle as the smaller woman found herself being picked up. She was being carried almost like one would a baby, and Jack was very considerate about hand placement. Skye found it sweet, but at the same time somewhat disappointing. But at the same time, she still rather enjoyed it as the orange on her hands began to flicker more prominently, almost as if Skye's happiness was helping to light the way for them.
She snuggled into the prawn's strong, yet tender arms, closing her eyes a little; she wasn't sleeping, but it probably looked that way. In reality, she was enjoying every moment of this.

Skye was deeply grateful to her Uncle for helping her be able to do this. She'd always wanted to go to an event like this, and King Con was finally her chance. She had temporarily broken free of her usual style for the occasion, ditching the hoodie and tight jeans. She wore a somewhat tight fitting dress that stopped above her knee, and it was sky blue in color. On her back was a pair of translucent wings that hung down so as to stay out of the way, but were also where the yellow light emanating from her hands could reflect off of them.
Skye had decided to go to this event as a fairy, and she'd picked a color that would go rather well with any of her emotions just in case. Nearby, she saw a gargoyle talking to someone, though she wasn't really good at mingling or anything. She was just taking in the sights, the sounds, and the--scream?
A piercing scream cut through the venue, and the young girl's hair turned green from the startle as they pulsed green. She scanned the area, but she too wasn't very tall, so that did little good. Instead, she turned, heading toward where she was certain the scream came from.

Skye smiled, nodding. "Oh I'm somewhat used to it. I'm the only one who sleeps at night, it seems. I mean, sometimes I may pull nights at The Missing Link, but from what I understand only the bar is open after eleven." She gave a shrug. "I mean, the night life is pretty awesome, I'm just not used to it right now. It's really throwing off my rhythm." She gave a yawn, covering her mouth with an orange-hued hand.
"Twenty minutes," she repeated. "I....honestly don't know if I can make it that long," she said, giving another yawn. She was sure she could have, but she was sort of testing the waters here. Seeing what she could get away with, but very subtly.
"You....don't think you could...carry me...do you?" she asked, moving to lean on her just a little bit. She was tired, but not as tired as she was playing it up.

She smiled up at Jack, nodding as her emotions began to calm and her hair turned into its flat brunette color; as it stood, she wasn't feeling much of anything in particular. "Yeah, Uncle Blaine and Aunt Lee have been amazing. He even got me a job that I start next week. And yeah...I'm beginning to see that the city is its own entity. And it can be a douche sometimes," she added with a slight snort.
But the mention of being young made Skye's hair flare purple again, the lights on her hands flickering a little with embarrassment. But as the other mutant rescinded her statement, the hair and lights turned orange as she smiled.
"It's okay, you meant no harm," she said, sliding in to give her a bit of a hug. "Maybe we should head out though. It is kind of an ungodly hour," she said with a slightly nervous smile.

She nodded at his own experience with cooking. "I've seen every end of the spectrum, honestly. I've eaten lobster, and I've lived off of takeout," she said with a smirk. Then she was forced to think a little at his next question.
"Maybe the better idea would be just to make note of where you've eaten. Like a restaurant bucket list?" she said with a slight shrug. Honestly, she was enjoying this time, even if he was a stranger; granted the more they talked, the more they were getting to know each other, right? Of course.
"Oh, wings sound like a good plan B," she said quietly as she chuckled lightly, her hair shifting from indigo to a cheerful orange. Her mood had brightened in such a short time, but her emotions tended to change with the wind, it seemed.
And then her eyes widened quite a bit. Did his hair just...was he--what the hell? Maybe she was just seeing things. "Yeah, it's emotion-based, I've gathered. Don't ask for any sort of chart though. I don't even have it figured out. I know the flash-bang only happens when I'm really stressed or pressured though. Used to be more hair-trigger, but it's helped me not be as sensitive, heh." She finished talking and gave him sort of a sideways glance as she picked at her own salad. Something weird was going on.

"Oh, I texted him, so I should be fine," she said. "He's letting me stay with him while I get on my feet; I just moved here from Maine, so I don't really have much to call my own," she explained, not remembering if she had already or not, but she was really self-conscious about that for some reason.
And then, came the question of age. Luckily, Skye still carried that fake ID from Maine, and though she didn't want to lie...eighteen was still just a kid to some people. And she hadn't known Jack for very long, so she looked up at the other mutant. "Twenty-one," was her simple reply as they walked together. The way she'd answered was seamless, and it still worked. Old enough to be considered a responsible adult, young enough to where living with her uncle wasn't considered weird or lazy. So it worked out.
Besides, once they got closer, and she was able to trust her more, then maybe she'd tell the truth. Maybe.

Breathe, Skye. Breathe. Be cool. Don't explode... Luckily she'd learned to calm her emotions, though it didn't always work, it did help her not to flashbang everyone all the time. And now, that was coming in handy. But Jack's words calmed her even more. Her hair went to a calm shade of indigo as she looked up at her new friend.
"Really? I'd greatly appreciate it," she said with a soft smile. "I practically live on my uncle's couch, so a sofa really isn't a problem for me," she said kindly, giggling a little. "Thanks," she murmured, giving Jack a one-armed hug as she started walking with her.

She nodded over at him. "I can't say I'll be disappointed. My uncle does this thing that he calls cooking; he can't feel, so texture is lost on him. It's...well, it's well seasoned, but aside from that, inedible. It's well-seasoned garbage," she said with a bit of dryness to her humor. "Well, I'm always up for trying new things--I'd kind of have to be to pull the stunt I did to end up here," she said with a smirk. "Though if I had to guess, I'd say you have plenty of time to try. Just make sure you always eat somewhere new, and you'll at least put a dent in it."
She giggled a little, brushing her hair out of her face as it turned from purple to a more peaceful indigo; it was a slight change, but it was a change, nonetheless, and her hands were still without light, for now.
The soup came out, and the Maine native looked at it, mildly confused, but it was still miles above anything that had ever come off of Blaine's stove.
"He lives in an apartment complex," she said, reciting the address. At least she had that part down, anyway. "I know it's not too far from The Missing Link, a bar and grill where I wait tables, and there's a wing place not far from that," the now-indigo-haired mutant explained as she tentatively tasted her miso soup. Honestly, it wasn't bad.
Picking up the menu, she looked it over, trying to figure out if she'd been daring enough for the day, or if she should just keep going out on a limb. So far, that seemed to be going quite well today, but she knew all limbs eventually broke. She bit her lip in thought, occasionally stealing glances at her "date" for the afternoon.

"Thanks," she said with a smile over at him, though the purple didn't go away. After all, she still had no idea where in the city she was, and she was about to go on a 'date' with a stranger. Though that second part didn't sound so bad, to be honest. The good news was, she wouldn't be flash-banging the entire restaurant. Not right now, anyway.
"Well, you're doing a good job of that so far," she said with a grin as the light from her hands faded, signifying that her emotions were at least considerably calmer than they had been. However, a slight blush rose to her cheeks as her hands began to flicker purple again. That grill was...teeny. And those chairs were really close together. And wasn't the privacy screen a bit much? Well, she supposed this was the consequence for lying. Oh well. At least he was cute, right?
And he pulled her chair out, which was sweet. That or he was really trying to sell the whole couple thing. Either way, it was something the young woman wasn't necessarily used to.
"I guess I'm about to find out," she answered lightly. "I'm not a picky eater though, so I'm sure I'll be fine." And then he sat down, and she realized just how....cozy this table was.
She giggled lightly. "You got lucky, honestly," she replied without looking at him, because this close, eye contact would be weird, right? Possibly. Not that he was hard to look at or anything, but still. But...she would argue that it wasn't exactly a bad thing.
"I was trying to find my way back to my uncle's apartment, and I ended up getting lost as hell. Stepped inside for directions, heard your dilemma and thought I'd swoop in and make the save," she said, a little bit of a sly, teasing tone to her voice as she finally looked over at him, giving him a wink.
"I didn't foresee this either, but it could be worse, I guess."
