The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As Maya agreed to hang out, Skye's hair turned colors again, though this time it was more of an orange hue, with little sparks of orange light flickering from her hands that were resting on the table. She gave a smile; but orange was one of those odd colors that could mean a number of things. She knew it was a good feeling, but...like she'd said, it was hard to break down to an exact science.
"Sweet," she replied, thinking a moment, "Well, I haven't really been in the city long enough to know where there is to go," she admitted. "It's been maybe a couple of weeks, so I'm sort of at a loss on that front. Speaking of which, getting lost seems to be something I'm good at."
She gave a light giggle as she thought a moment. "Maybe somewhere we can talk. And yeah, somewhere that isn't here. Especially after the wonderful first day I've had." She gave a snort at her own dry comment.
The light steadied a little as she managed to only slightly calm her nerves. Besides, food and deception made everything better, did it not? Luckily, she'd gotten...well, not good, but relatively decent at keeping her stress from reaching a fever pitch. And furthermore, this was liable to be interesting, no matter what.
"Yeah, I did say I was running a little late, hun," she said with a sort of artificial sweetness that almost made her sick to her stomach. Though she was still glowing, the light faded to a flicker as she continued to breathe. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. It'd been awhile since she'd had an actual date, even if the date was technically a lie. She hooked her arm in the young man's, keeping the act going as her free hand pulled the hood down to expose her purple hair to the world.
"Skye," she whispered back, keeping an eye on the hostess. Not that it was illegal for two strangers to get a table together. Was it? Laws were weird.
Skye shook her head. "Not usually. As long as I don't get too worked up, it'll be fine. And it kind of takes a lot to do that." Then, she lowered her voice a little. "Worst case, there's a bright flash of light and your ears will ring for awhile. No biggie." she gave a slight shrug and a sly smirk over at him.
Once again, purple light radiated from the purple-haired girl's black hoodie pockets as she briskly walked down the street. Her eyes scanned the area as she looked around. She..didn't recognize any of this. Part of her wondered if she'd ever get the hang of where things were here--although of the few times she had gotten lost already, they did end well, but that was not looking to be the case today. She pulled the hood up as she looked from building to building, hoping to see something familiar.
But there was no sign of the wing place, the bookstore, or even that creepy pawn shop that was near Blaine's apartment. So...it seemed she wasn't going home for a little while, at least. Though...maybe she could swallow her pride and ask for directions. Swallowing, the light in her pocket grew stronger as she walked into a nearby restaurant, hoping to get directions and leave.
However, the scene she walked in on caught her ear.
"Just one, please." "Oh. We don't... do... tables for one."
"Make it two, then,"
Skye didn't know what came over her, but the purple light was very visibly pulsing from her hoodie pockets right now, and she refused to take them out. If she got any worse, maybe the jacket would help to muffle or dull the inevitable.
It was a nice place, and it would eat into her funds a little...but she was getting kind of tired of wings and pizza. And whatever that was Blaine called leftovers. So, maybe she could eat and help someone out in the process. There was nothing weird about getting a table for two with a complete stranger, right?
She quirked a brow as she looked at him, wondering if he was about to lose his lunch. Or breakfast. Or what have you. If he did, that would likely make him a little less attractive. Or a lot, considering how close they were forced to stand. It wasn't a huge storefront.
She smiled at the cute comment, blushing lightly though the orange glow remained, the joy and amusement of the moment overpowering whatever else she may have been feeling. The smile didn't fade, though; he was definitely an oddball, that was for sure, but...she found it refreshing. Amusing, even.
She laughed lightly. He'd left his bike in another dimension...that raised several questions, but she didn't ask. "Yeah, I understand getting money together. I'm a waitress over at the Missing Link. For now, anyway. If I don't improve, I'm liable to get fired soon," she said with a shrug. "Though my emotional breakdowns make for an interesting light show," she said with a dry chuckle.
After a few moments of awkward silence, she bit her lip. "I do like the helmet though. It's cute, so it fits you perfectly," she said with a smirk.
She smiled lightly as he called her 'Skye Blue' and commented on her hands. "Thanks, Benji. They're not always blue; in fact they change color frequently," she said, though she figured it would stay blue as long as she was cold, wet, and down about it. Then, suddenly, he started spinning at an ungodly fast speed, drenching her with water much like a dog that had just had its bath. Very briefly, her hair and the lights on her hands flickered to a pulsing red light, but then faded to orange as she realized that what he had done. Though...it also seemed to have taken some effort out of him, as he now looked beat.
She smiled lightly, giggling a little as her hands flickered the happy orange glow. "That's pretty neat," she said. "Mine's not at will. It just...happens." She gave a smirk; he was quite the goofball, wasn't he? Though...she didn't think he was obnoxious about it. In fact, it was rather amusing to her.
"So, Benji," she said after a moment, letting him gain some energy back. "Are you always a goof, or just when you're trying to flirt?" she teased lightly, that sly smile still on her lips. Reaching down, she picked up his helmet, handing it to him. "Interesting design, but....I don't see a motorcycle," she commented, sort of trying to picture this guy on a motorcycle.
She couldn't, but anything was possible, right? Thunder cracked and lightning flashed across the sky, signifying that the rain didn't intend to let up anytime soon.

Skye forced a smile as she found herself with a temporary companion--to wait out the rain. At his words, her eyes drifted past the "CLOSED" sign for the first time, seeing what the store was actually selling. "Life can be a cruel, cruel mistress..." she murmured, a cynical, bitter dryness to her own tone. She shook her head, pulling the hood of her hoodie down to reveal that the rain had soaked through her hood, and her hair was now soaked and matted to her head, the soft blue light still emanating from the hands that were still stuffed in her coat pockets.
"Well, looks like we're going to be here for awhile," she sighed after a moment, looking up at her new acquaintance. "We may as well get to know each other a bit better, so....my name is Skye," she said after a pause as she removed her still flickering hands from her pockets and folding them across her soaked chest.

Skye was glad she was able to relax now; as good as the emotions may have looked on her, there was nothing like good old neutrality; something that was very hard to maintain for a girl like her. Though she'd gotten better over the years about keeping cool, she was nowhere near perfect, as her cycling spectrum of hair just today had proven.
"Yeah, that's true. I get a wide selection, though I can't just pick and choose, and even I don't have the associated emotions down to an exact science. There are a lot of grey areas. Though...if I could pick and choose, I'd pick the purple, but that's not a good feeling it's associated with," she said with a shrug.
She leaned back, relaxing even more as Maya sipped her beer. She sort of wondered if the other woman knew the waitress she was talking too wasn't legally old enough to drink. But she guessed that didn't matter so much.
"So, where you doing anything after you got done here? I don't want to intrude or anything, but I think it'd be cool to hang out a little."
Skye pulled the hood of her hoodie over her head as she stuffed her hands in her pockets, slumping slightly against the cool breeze. Luckily her hoodie was enough to shield against it; she really needed to pull out some of her winter clothes, but they just weren't the same. They were bulky and uncomfortable.
Her hair was indigo at the moment, with indigo light glowing from the inside of her pockets, showing that she was content, peaceful. She was getting used to the day to day life in the city, which was nothing like her small port-hometown in Maine. But she figured she could get quite used to living here. Especially since she wasn't nervous as often; as good as purple looked on her, being a nervous wreck all the time wasn't on her bucket list. But it rhymed with bucket...
Speaking of things that can go to hell, a light crack of thunder could be heard as little droplets of water slowly began to drizzle from the sky. Cursing to herself, Skye's hair turned blue, the light following suit. And by now it was quite a walk back to Blaine's apartment...Just great.
Instantly, the light drizzle turned into a furious downpour, soaking the emotional light-source from head to toe as her blue hair clung to her face, and her hoodie clung to the rest of her body. Soaking wet, she ducked into a nearby store-front, shaking slightly and muttering to herself.
Even though she'd only been in New York a couple of weeks, her mutterings may have showed that she'd already been around her uncle Blaine a bit too long...

She giggled, shaking her head. "To me, a decent hour is when it's dark. Noon is about the time I normally wake up but you two have me all out of wack," she teased lightly as he finished pulling her jacket on.
"Yeah...from what I've heard I seem to have it pretty good," she said. "I'm thankful for people like you two," with that, she gave a wave. "Sleep tight," she said as she turned and walked out the door, shutting it behind her.
Skye smiled, nodding happily, her hands flickering with an orange glow; it was one of her rarer colors lately. Not that she wasn't happy often, but nervousness or some other emotion always seemed to be stronger. "I'm looking forward to it," she said, her voice almost bubbly. It'd be nice to have the whole family together. Well, minus her mother, but that ***** wasn't family.
Skye nodded as Lee stretched. "Yeah, you should get some sleep. I'm probably going to go out; so maybe I can actually go to sleep at a decent hour," she teased lightly with a smile as she walked over to the coat rack to grab her hoodie, tugging it on and pulling the hood up. "Sleep tight, and thanks for the talk, Aunt Lee."
"Yeah, they kinda do, don't they?" she said with a small smile. And the more she thought about it, the more she realized it was pretty much true. She curled up even tighter on the couch; she was little, but she was quite flexible to some extent. In fact, this fetal position was actually comfortable to her and she spent at least half the night sleeping this way.
She nodded, listening to Lee's idea. It really wasn't a bad idea, to be honest, though she really didn't know if it would go that smoothly. From her experience, it was never that easy. "Well, I really think it'd be a nice thing to do," she said thoughtfully as she sat up again to look her in the eye. "The problem is getting everyone together; my Dad lives closer to the city now, and I'm not too sure what my Aunt Candace is up to these days. But if nothing else I know my grandparents still live in my hometown."
She nodded, blushing lightly again. "Yeah...I know. I thought about it, but I was afraid I'd be told no....I mean we hadn't seen each other since I was little, and Dad and I thought if I just showed up....then it'd make the answer easier," she admitted. "Like I said, our family has some....communication issues," she murmured.
She finished her soda, curling up on the couch a little as she thought. She really hadn't thought this through at all, but at least everything turned out okay.
She nodded, though Skye hoped she'd never need to rely on her power like that, it was nice to know it could help if it came to that. Hopefully. She was so used to it going off when she didn't want it to, who's to say it would go off when she needed it?
At Lee's next words, she bit her lip a little, then nodded slowly. "Yeah...I guess that is a good thing, then," she murmured. "The way I felt that day, I probably would have flash-banged the entire complex before you guys even got home..." She gave a nervous laugh, but she wasn't exactly joking.

She nodded. "Yeah, Dad worried, but he also figured if anyone started anything, I'd just end up blinding them. I mean, he's not wrong..." she giggled lightly.
Then, she blushed again at the mention of barging in late at night. "Well, my plane was supposed to land at 8. But between side-stops and layovers and broken planes...." she shrugged a little, releasing the long, awkward hug.
