The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She kept breathing, shakily at first, but then it became more steady over time. "I feel like I'm bringing you down...and it was supposed to be fun," she said, leaning into Emily's hand as she stroked her cheek. She found a weird comfort in that; it was nice.
When told to shut up, she actually did, holding Emily close and closing her eyes as the blue slowly became calmer. Indigo. But even as the light subtly changed, she didn't let go, she just sat there, in the moment, her breathing steady and strong. She wasn't worried about Skye's power going off? Then what was she worried about? Her?
She felt her cheeks blush hotly as she just closed her eyes, getting lost in the hug and these feelings of comfort. She was single, and still coming to terms with that after all that time she'd been with Mari, but...she wasn't alone, and that was....nice.

Skye was trembling as the sobs turned into full on crying and the blue lights began to pulse faster and faster and she was lost in a torrent of sad thoughts. Outwardly she'd tell herself she was over it, but...she still sorely missed Mari, and that unintentional slip of the tongue sent her right back over the edge.
But she felt something against her rigid, tensed body, and what she heard was distant at first, but she found herself in an embrace, which after a little bit she returned, turning to hug Emily back, perhaps a bit too tightly at first. She buried her face in Emily's shoulder as she cried a bit more, focusing on her breathing and where she was now, physically.
"I...I'm sorry," she murmured into Emily's shoulder, her voice cracking and somewhat squeaky. "I have been having a good time, I promise...I just...ugh..." She looked up to see their characters back at the thankfully recent save point, literally sitting idly. Her brown eyes focused back onto Emily.
"I'll be okay. I'm not gonna...you know..." she made a weird 'explosion' gesture with her hands, giving a weak smile as the blue lights became less erratic.

The game, Skye found, was an equal mix of adorable and action-packed, edge of your seat fantasy. In fact, it was just as good, if not better than the internet had implied. The first few levels passed quickly, and Skye had deviated from her usual style, opting for a more crowd control and defensive path, which would set up Emily's bat-rogue to deal major damage while being protected from overwhelming attacks.
Her eyes locked on the screen as the first boss appeared and the learning curve definitely started to show itself. It was immune to most of Skye's status inflictions, and had a ton of health. "Oh man...alright, I'll get in front and throw up my defensive spells while you try to attack from behind that, got it, Mari?" She froze, dropping the controller for a moment. "Emily. I mean Emily..." she said, the light turning blue, pulsing faster and faster as she buried her face in her hands, her body heaving a little as she fought back sobs.

"You should feel like that. But me being a weird cocktail of emotions doesn't really feel awesome. Not usually anyways," she admitted again. But Emily was right, it was a part of who Skye was. All of it was. The good, the bad, the blinding flashes of light combined with the deafening kaboom.
Once the popcorn was finished, they made their way to the room which was...surprisingly clean. "You're a lot more organized than I am," she admitted as she looked around, setting her bags in a corner and pulling out her new game.
She struggled to open the box for a moment, but finally got it loose and got everything set up. Videogames were second nature to her, and she could practically do this with her eyes closed. Once the setup was done, she handed Emily the other controller--player one, actually. Yet another sign of trust was Skye giving up first player. Or maybe she was just being nice because she was the guest, who could tell?
Once the screen loaded, both were taken to a character creation screen, which was actually pretty in depth. There were dozens of characters to choose from, each with their own specializations and abilities, which could be further customized as the game advanced. "Whoa," Skye murmured with a light whistle, deciding on the ferret mage, and customizing her with a pink mohawk because of course she did.
Once the game started and they were thrown into the introductory mission, Skye's hair had settled on a very content orange.

Skye was thankful Mirror was this understanding; she honestly expected them to be more like the wrath of God, seeing as how she'd pretty much ignored her training for the past two months or so. "Yeah. It's been...a rough time," she admitted, still not making eye contact.
"Definitely." She found herself smiling at the thought of taking her emotions out on some zombies. That actually sounded...fun. But she didn't have too much time to process because Mirror was already pushing her through the door.
"Let's do this ****," she said, closing her eyes for a moment. Maybe this wouldn't be the healthiest thing to do, but she dug through her memories, focusing on every little spat, every argument, and every plan that went awry because Mari was too busy. She pulled her hood up over her head and opened her eyes, looking up as the simulation began, illuminated in a pulsing red light.

"Oh, it's nothing," she said honestly. "Just this weird mix of excitement, I guess. I mean I'm really looking forward to this, and I haven't been this excited in forever, but at the same time...part of me expects something to go wrong, ya know?" she said, pouring her heart out as her calmness returned.
"I'm just this weird cocktail of emotions," she admitted. "But...I'm happy, and excited, and still wading through these not so good feelings, but...I'm getting there. I'm getting better," she said solemnly before her face brightened again, her hair instantly turning bright yellow as she flashed a smile.
"Now, let's go~" she said, grinning mischievously as she went back to practically dragging her friend down the hall.
"As long as your company stays this enjoyable. The advice is just a plus," she murmured. "Maybe I do, maybe I'm just messin' with ya," she said with a smirk; honestly it was a little bit of both. Skye usually did have a high self-confidence, after all.
She was surprised when Emily lay her head on her shoulder, but Skye smiled, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and letting her head lean softly against the other girls the two of them bathing in a soft indigo light.
"Hey, calm down where's the fire?"
Skye stopped in her tracks, the yellow briefly flickering to purple and back like a weird strobe light. "I'm just excited is all...you know....new game hype," she said with a nervous smile. Yeah, it was totally excitement from a new videogame that was making her react this way...

"We'll have to see about that, then," she murmured, her orange hair getting that now more common reddish tint to it. There was about to be a new queen on top, if Skylar Jade Sinclaire had anything to say about it. And as far as she was concerned, she did. "Well, you haven't steered me wrong yet, but hey, our friendship is still young~" she teased, sticking her tongue out in return.
"Of course you had worse times," she countered. "Because you spent today with the best weirdo." Her voice was very matter-of-fact in tone and she kept that confident air about her, that this time was only half-exaggerated. Hell, she was feeling empowered just joking like that, and she was actually starting to believe it.
"Maybe. But either way it was because of me and you admitted it," she said victoriously. As they rode back to the mansion, Emily wasn't the only one with the cheese-eating grin plastered on. They had to have been a funny pairing, but it was public transportation in New York. Nobody really cared. And that was okay with Skye, honestly.
When they got to the Mansion, Skye eagerly grabbed Emily's hand as they made their way off the bus, her hair now that very vibrant shade of yellow.

Skye had used the word 'date' pretty loosely for the most part, but her mind tried to omit that word when Emily said it. She didn't want to remotely go there. Nope. Not at all.
"Huh. I might actually have to look into that. See if I'm really as good as I think I am," she said, then confidently added, "Though I'm pretty sure I am." She jokingly puffed her chest out with pride. When Emily darted into the store, Skye leaned against the wall alone with her thoughts. She was having fun, more fun than she'd had in months. And she was actually happy, and feeling...positive feelings. Feelings she thought had left her a long time ago.
Before she could dwell too long and drift back into a (literal) blue state, Emily was back and they were heading back to the mansion. "Yeah, it was a lot of fun," she said with a soft smile. "Face it," she quipped, it was enjoyable because you spent the entire time with me," she finished with a coy smile, puffing her chest out again.

"You damn well better~"
"I was never good at fighting games. I'm more into fantasy, RPGs and more cartoony racing games," she said. "I normally played by myself. I tried to teach my uncle how to, but his power is that he can't feel, so that didn't work out. If he'd started younger he coulda adapted muscle memory for it, but I guess he was too old," she said with a snort. "Then I'd play with....well, dates," she said shrugging that emotional bit off as quickly as it came.
Skye missed the interaction between her friend and the clerk because she was lost in her own thoughts, but if she knew she would have appreciated the sentiment nonetheless. When they were reunited at the door, Skye looked at her and smiled. "That...that sounds like a good idea," she said as her mind wandered. Part of her expected this to go wrong somehow, but the other part of her was looking forward to this. She'd enjoyed spending time with Emily, and it was really helping her out of her slump. She could only hope she was doing the same for her friend in return.

"Good. But you better let me know the instant that changes, okay?" she said, her voice firmly concerned. "Well, if you wanna get back into competitive stuff, we should be on the same team. I'll carry you," she teased lightly, "Your secret's safe with me, promise. Besides, you know way too much **** about me for me to be blabbing your secrets!" she said quietly, laughing heartily.
She smiled, her mohawk turning back orange. "Anytime, really."
"I wouldn't mind playing through an RPG, if it's with you."
Skye felt herself blushing again, though it didn't override the orange in her hair, the lights flickering rapidly as she tucked the game under her arm and made her way to the counter, to the now-worried looking cashier.
"It's okay," she told the young man. "Orange is a happy color. Nothing bad happens with happy colors," she reassured. "I was in a dark place last time I came in. Trying to feel better, but I'm okay now." She paid for the game and put that in the bag with her clothes. "Well," she said, turning to look at Emily once they'd finished. "If there's nowhere you'd wanna go, I think I've spent about enough money," she said with a nervous giggle.

"Okay. If we need to leave, let me know, or give my hand a squeeze...anything, and we can high-tail it outta here, okay?" she said with a soft look in her eyes. God, she could be so...motherly sometimes. Skye gave a nod and moved a little closer to the other girl.
"I've read reviews and heard it was really good," she said. "Figured it'd be worth a shot," she said with a shrug. "I'm a little more picky than that," she said with a teasing wink, followed by another giggle.
"Oh, okay," she said, looking over at her. She really felt like Emily needed a hug, but she didn't know how she'd take to that, so she just gave another small smile. "You don't have to if you don't wanna," she comforted, brushing a strand of indigo hair out of her face. "If you ever want to though, you know where to find me," she reassured, looking back to the wall of games.
"So, anything else over here strike your fancy?" she asked after a somewhat awkward moment of silence. Skye was starting to realize that she wasn't the only one who'd put up walls. But while deep down Skye was willing to break hers down, to an extent, maybe not everyone was like that. But she wasn't going to force anything; she was just going to be there.

Skye picked up on the awkwardness, but she figured it better to just let it slide. Even though she was the one who could explode, and not Emily.
"Yeah...last time I was in here was maybe a few days before we met. My powers ended up...well I ended up accidentally causing an incident. Let's leave it at that," she explained, shooting the cashier another apologetic glance. "Not that I blame them but...I'm good. Promise," she said the last part loud enough for the cashier to hear, and he gave a huff but turned back to his phone.
"Besides, this is the best game store in the area," she said with a shrug. And then it hit her and she felt a twinge of guilt. "Oh...sorry about that..." she murmured, eyes looking toward the selection of games. "Got it, got it, sucked, not my style...Hey, there's a new multiplayer RPG out. Whatcha think?" she said, showing Emily the case with various anthropomorphic animals in various fantasy costumes on the cover. Not that it really mattered what Emily said on the subject; Skye was getting it anyway. The real question was, would this be something they'd play together, or would Skye be soloing it?
"What do you like to play? I realize I never really asked. So much has pretty been about me. So maybe it should be about you for awhile, hm?" She gave another smile as her hair turned something between blue and purple, showing her guilt. Huh, Emily was bringing out a lot of uncommon colors for Skye.

Skye was having a really good day, her smile was genuine and more permanent, even lasting through the times where Emily embarrassed her. Which was surprisingly often. Sure, she'd already spent too much money, but it would be okay. This was important after all. Therapeutic stuff.
Her jacket, jeans, choker, wristbands, beanie, and unicorn did fit into one bag, but it was huge. She held it awkwardly on her arm as she stood to the side, waiting for Emily to finish.
"Oh, you're fine," she replied with a bright smile. "So, shall we wander and see which way the wind blows us?" she asked brightly, leading the way and letting her eyes scour the mall. Food court, nah. Another clothing store, nah. Jewelry, hell no. "Videogames, nice..." she inadvertently said out loud as she made her way over there. This particular store brought back memories. It wasn't long ago where she ended up flashbanging this very store...
In fact, when she walked in, she got looks from the cashier. She flashed a nervous smile as her hair turned purple. "It's fine. My emotions are under control, I p-promise," she murmured politely and quietly. The teen behind the counter quirked a brow, but didn't say anything further. But he did keep his eye on her.
"Hmmm....pretty much the same selection as last time, not that I got much of a look," she said with a light-hearted yet somewhat guilty giggle.

"Yeah, maybe diving head-first into a full-blown change like I did isn't the best idea. The jacket really is you, though. I think so, anyway," she said, still not making eye contact. She began to wander a little bit more, looking at other jackets, throwing a few more beanies onto her pile, and then just for fun, she put a shiny stuffed unicorn with a rainbow mane and tail on top of the pile.
She came back to Emily trying on a jacket and gave a smile. "Totally works for you. I approve," she said sincerely. "So, whatcha feeling next?" she asked before waddling her armload of stuff to the counter to check out. She took a breath at the price, but paid for her pile of stuff and stood off to the side, waiting for her friend.
