The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "Well, I thought I saw something so I decided to check it out... I thought I'd see what it was because why not... And here I am. With no signal, lost in a maze. It's almost like a kinda horror movie. Stupid girl goes into stupid Maze because of seeing something stupid..."
Lots of people tended to get lost in the Mansion hedge maze. Most did it for fun, some did it to hide from the world, and some were looking for exotic scenery for making out. Whatever the case, this was not the first time, nor would it be the last, that someone got lost in there. Sure, it was not too large or too difficult, but people usually were not prepared for how easily one could get turned around in there.
>>"It's nice to meet you Gawain. Angua, sounds like she's a big ole' cutie. Umm... Do you have any idea how to start looking for her in here...?"
"Well, if this is a horror movie, we'd split up first, and then one of us would go take a shower." Gawain pointed out with a smirk "Probably me, since there's gotta be a final girl, and you're the only girl here right now. Unless we get stuck here overnight..." he muttered, half to himself, then laughed "C'mon, I know this place pretty well. We just gotta find Angua first, and then I'll lead you out..." he nodded, leading the way, taking turns here and there, occasionally whistling for the dog.
>> "Um, no, I haven't seen one... I did see something come in here, but I couldn't really tell what it was... Which is how I'm in here... and how I'm kinda lost in here."
So, Angua might have been in the maze, after all. That was good to know. She was large enough to be noticed, even if she was hiding, so now it was only a matter of time before he caught up to her. The search was suspended for a moment, however, as the girl admitted that she, too, was lost inside the hedge maze. Gawain arched an eyebrow at her. What was she doing in here in the first place?...
>>"I can help you look for her? Or is it him? By the way, I'm Celestina. I promise I'm not too filthy,"
She offered a hand and Gawain shook it. He also wanted to give his name, but he was sidetracked by her joke. He looked at her, amused, and a little intrigued.
"I'll remember that." he grinned "Name's Gawain. And it's a she... the dog, I mean. Her name is Angua. She's big, but very friendly."
Maya was a little nervous. Not about the tattoo, she had done wilder things than that in her life... but rather, about explaining why she wanted to test the ink first, and with that, why she had to be here at the parlor just around midnight. Of course, she did not get that far straight away, and the guy looked a little confused.
>> ”If it’s an allergy that you’re worried about, then I can attest that everything here is cleaned really well, so you won’t have to worry about contamination. We can test the ink somewhere small, if you’d like, though.”
"It's not an allergy" Maya assured him. That was not really a problem, but she was relieved to hear that he was willing to test things if she asked
>>”If there’s something about the process that’s worrying you, then we can definitely cover that. But if it’s Keloid Disorder, then you should just go home. It’s not smart to risk that.”
"No, no, I don't" Maya shook her head, then sighed "It's... my skin... goes through a lot. I can show you, in a bit, but if it would be possible, could we do a small test?"
>>”Weel, at least we’re setting th’ bar fur thes mission low. Ye leave wi’ yer head, thes was a success.”
"That's my general base line." Maya smirked. It wasn't like they had never been on a mission that had the actual, factual potential of someone losing their head. Or at least a limb. In this case, if they landed anywhere in the vast space of possibilities between Maya becoming a queen's boy/girl toy, and losing her head, they were probably golden. Thank God for low standards.
The shelter... was a start, but definitely not a very strong one. Maya could understand why people might be hesitant to go there. There was no security in sight, and it was still too close to the Demigod parts of the city not to piss off the racist ones.
>>”Ah mean… dae ye hink we need a better sales pitch than, ‘if ye come wi’ us, we hae food, shelter, loove, an’ cable telly?’”
"Well... Kalos was excited about hot water and cake?" Mayy ventured, not sure how the coral girl's experiences measured up to others' on the darker side of the island. She took a deep breath, and walked up to the door, knocking before she poked her head in "Hello?..."
Okay, so this was definitely not Angua... unless Angua had been some kind of a shifter stuck in animal form all along. Which was not impossible, technically, but Gawain thought it at least highly unlikely. Not to mention embarrassing, since she had been calling for a naughty dog, and not a human girl... From the way she sniffed herself, it was clear there had been a misunderstanding on that front.
>>"I don't think I look filthy,"
"Uhhhh..." Gawain scratched his neck awkwardly "I'm sorry, that was not meant for you. Have you... seen my dog, by any chance? She's fleeing from a bath and she ran in here..."
"Angua?..." Gawain whistled as he walked across the Mansion grounds. He had seen the large Irish wolfhound jog by just a couple of minutes ago. She was overdue for a good wash, and the weather today was nice enough to do it outside, saving a whole lot of trouble, and possibly money on bathroom repairs. The hound, however, must have sensed what she was in for, because she was suspiciously absent. Following her trail, Gawain rounded the corner of the building, and sighed as he saw the hedge maze. "Oh, come on..."
Angua was a smart dog, and very much at home on the Mansion grounds. When it came to the maze, however... For some inexplicable reason, she tended to get lost. Maybe it was the layout of the place, or the strange scents of many mutant children playing hide-and-seek in there all the time, but Angua tended to get turned around, and at times like that, Mirror had to go to the rescue.
"Come on, Angua" he whistled as he walked in; he knew the layout of the maze pretty well. He only took a few turns before he heard rustling ahead "Okay, come on, girl, don't play coy, you know you're filth... oh."
>>”Frae whit Ah’ve seen, aye. Mebbe it’s jist a habit she cannae kick, bit she was constantly givin’ wee tooches tae everybody in th’ group... Ah was wi’ Nessa, bit Ah had a hard time keepin’ focus wi’ aw ‘at.”
"I can see why." Maya chuckled. Becca had a weak spot for pretty women, which really no one could blame her for, and the queen was certainly that, and more. Maya wondered if it was an Atlantean thing, or her personal strain of friendliness that made her so physical; she had not spent enough time on the island to see how others interacted, and definitely not enough to observe them while they were not actively trying to hurt X-men. Maya glanced around at that thought.
>>”Who knows? Mebbe ye’ll woo her wi’ aw ‘at charm ay yers. Maya, consort tae th’ Queen. Has a ring tae it.”
"Do I look like a trophy spouse to you?" Maya grinned at her teammate "Besides, I'm named after someone who almost got his head chopped off for courting a queen, so..."
They left the shining streets of the palace district behind, and they were getting close to the Necropolis. Balanced at the edge was the building the guards had pointed out - the new shelter for Gorgon youth who did not have anywhere else to live.
"Yeeeah... They've got ways to go" Maya noted, frowning, and she looked the shelter over "But at least she's trying?... Do you have a good sales pitch in mind?"
They walked away from the palace, and Maya was breathing easier now. She had never seen Atlantis as the paradise it was intended to be; since at her very first visit she had taken the less-than-scenic route, she knew the bad side of the place before she would have gotten enchanted by the good. She could tell that people were staring at the X-uniforms with mixed emotions. For some Demigods no doubt they were the symbol of the end of their cozy little segregated lives; for Gorgons, it might have been scary, seeing two foreigners walk around like that. Becca must have felt the same, because she spoke up again.
>>”Sae, Maya… was th’ Queen everything ye waur expecting?”
"Well... dunno, she's a little skinny for me." Maya grinned, clearly joking. The queen was a beauty, in an ethereal way, they both agreed on that. "Is she always this... um, touchy-feely?"
It was a nice compromise. Marriage was very far from Mirror's mind, but siblings, she could definitely deal with. She had been adopted by a trio of shifters once, and although their paths had diverged, she still remembered what it felt like to have siblings, adopted or otherwise. Kalos was a lot younger, and she was older now than she had been back then... but she meant the offer seriously. The kid was a precious cinnamon bun, and she would be the most adorable sister ever.
>>"I will try to be a good little sister."
"You will be." Maya smiled softly, turning the lights off. She had not expected to end the Atlantis mission with a brand new sibling... but she found that she did not mind.

The parlor looked nice and clean. The guy inside did not look very enthusiastic, but that was to be expected for such a late night appointment. Maya, for once, arrived through the door, not wanting to flaunt her mutant powers right off the bet. She was off duty, and she was going to have to disclose them soon anyway.
>>”Hey. You must be… Maya, right? Here for an appointment? I’m Ravi."
"Hi" Maya smiled, shaking hands with the guy in greeting "Yes, that's me. Maya Morris."
>>”Come on in and we’ll talk details.”
Maya walked in, glancing around the parlor. It was a nice set-up, clean, bright, and full of interesting designs. Definitely a good place to come to, at first glance. There was no one else around this late, which was also ideal, since, even after multiple friends and girlfriends witnessing it, Maya was still uncomfortable with shifting in front of an audience.
"So... I have a design in mind, but... I'm not sure how my skin would handle a tattoo." she admitted with a sigh "I was wondering if we could... test that first."
